Hi-
"My name is Ted and I am not in Mexico seeing MMJ"
"Hi Ted."
"It is not easy for me to admit this, but I wonder where I went wrong..."
So bummed not to be there, but it is not always in the cards. Work, family, among other things, come first sometimes, but, damn, this is one trip I wish I could have swung.
I take solace in the fact that this is a band just entering its prime, and that there will be many more great moments to come.
To all you SOB: may it exceed your wildest expectations!
Hi Ted and others I'm Matt.
I also am not in the warm embrace of Mexico with MMJ and friends. I am in the northeast. My wife and I had our first child in early January. No better excuse for us not to be there otherwise we both would be present. I am not complaining, having a child has been such a remarkable experience thus far its indescribable (sp?).
Still a part of me is certainly missing out being down ole Mexico way jamming out to my favorite band with the best group of fans I've come across in my musical journeys.
Anyways great thread, thanks for the support its great to be here.
For those in Mexico send some warming MMJ vibes to the frigid northeast for me and my family, can't wait for the updates!
Here's the update so far: There is a good breakfast buffet located on the Heaven side of the complex. That is all.

I'm in a group text with a bunch of people. I'll share the really interesting parts like the above. Also, everyone misses us and wishes we all were there.

What times are our support meetings scheduled for? I think I'm going to need at least a couple a day to get through missing OBH!

I'm listening to Grateful Dead all day and trying to avoid Facebook. That's my support group strategy. The group text is going to be useful when they start sending pics or show deets.

I like your thinking there. I might have to do a Bruce day today to lift my spirits. Then a Dead day, Genesis day, etc to get me through the rest. Support thread paying off already!!
hi all,
my name is chris. swimmin in a sea of jealousy, but similar boat to wolof. my wife had our second child late decemeber so gratefully hibernating for a while. would love to be south of the border with the band and friends, but holding my little girl certainly helps.
wishing for a great time for all. any and all updates and pics are much appreciated!!
are others in the support group thinking that recordings of the show will be available for download shortly after the shows, ala port chester? hoping and praying.....
I sure hope so. I would imagine that the guys are acutely aware of the rest of us folk who couldn't make it out there.
I'm afraid I myself won't be in the avoidance boat... I want to savor whatever tidbits we get about the new album, no matter how small! In the meantime, I'm listening to Evil Urges and Circuital, which I sadly haven't picked up in a while. I've forgotten how much I liked each of them.
Ok. If I get on a plane now. I can make it by, what, Tyrone?

I went through that stage big time yesterday and Friday. I'm better now. They have luchadore patches.

Pretty much.
Yeah, a dull, poignant ache that you can't quite place.
I imagine this must be similar to how those who couldn't get to T5 felt. Only colder being here in NJ during Winter.
This support group should make MMJ OBH blue ball patches.
Hi. My name is John. I'm not going because I wanted to experience the coldest temperatures of my 46 year life in my new home of Iowa City.
Actually, I seem to make a habit of missing the big MMJ events. Never been to Red Rocks. Never been to a no-repeat run, such as Port Chester or Wiltern LA. Only made it to the last night of T5, a great time but probably the least exciting of the week.
OBH was just too much at the wrong time. We moved to Iowa City for my wife's job in August '13. I had a job lined up but, when I arrived, found that they filled it without informing me. Unable to find a teaching position, I've been subbing. We're trying to live on half the income we had in NH, so plunking down $1000s on OBH would have been just plain irresponsible.
I've got a wife and three beautiful daughters who put up with a lot when it comes to my obsession with MMJ. I've missed my wife's and youngest daughter's birthdays two years in a row for MMJ shows. When I do travel for shows, my wife has to take time off to make up for my absence.
Someday, everything will fall into place and I'll make a major MMJ event. I did make Forecastle '12 and NYE Boston, and any chance to see my fellow MMJ forum pals is a treat that can't be beat!
I hope this week is epic beyond all imagination for those in Mexico. Sigh...
John, knowing you are being responsible kind of sucks doesn't it? That's why I'm not there either. However McLovin is there and way more drool worthy, rumors are flying that Bill Murray and Zachary Galiafinakis or however you spell his name is there too. Most importantly, most of my MMJ family is there without me.
Who is making that blue balls patch. Sign me up for one!
If Bill Murray is there I am leaving my wife and daughter and heading down (j/k, or am I?)

I feel she'll get it once i tell her "Bill Murray and MMJ are in the same place at the same time."
If he's really there, that would be insane.

this thread is keeping the FOMO at bay. can't wait for the setlists, youtube videos, and the eventual bootlegs to surface.
Especially the bootlegs, how long do you think it will take to release? Port Chester was fast, I think they came the next day after each show.
Bob Weir has been sighted by attendees!!
I'm getting most of my info from a group text and Facebook. Joining the OBH group that Garrett Miller started has been either pure torture or a godsend of info. I can't decide yet whether I'm torturing myself or living vicariously. It's probably a little of both.
Thanks for the posts , Fully! Can you link us to the OBH group that Garrett Miller started ?
It's a secret group so he has to add you. Friend him on Facebook and ask him to add you. He'll check it at some point.
Bobby is at sound-check?
What's next? Janis, Jerry, Ella and Miles sipping Mai-Thai's at the swim-up bar?
(OK I am switching from water to bourbon.)

Hi support group,
Couldn't go because of money/awkward timing. Really killing me now. To make up for it, I will try and attend as many shows as possible in the upcoming tour.
Also, how soon do you think these official recordings will be up?

They were up rather quickly after the PC shows-like the next day or so. We'll see.
Welcome to our group.
Hey LB! Watch yer mail!
I'd expect pretty quick turnaround, but hope Ryan kicks back this week and waits 'til he's back in the states to get those recordings out. Expect more "Archive" releases, too!
So I'm assuming that MMJ will not play any of their new stuff correct? Since they are going to release these shows soon (hopefully)?
seems like i'm not going for similar reasons: money and or time. we have one daughter out of university and our son is still in which we are paying tuition for. hope to be done in 2 years and then i'm traveling around much more to see them. i can't help but think of last february at grimeys in nashville. so i'm darn lucky and oddly enough today driving on I94 (chicago) had the biggest smile on my face for those lucky peeps that are there. i think somebody must have been sending good vibes from mexico.
thanks fully for the photo updates and such.

Didn't that guy named TOOGANS or something actually do the port Chester shows. I may be remembering his name wrong, but he stayed at our hotel in PC and he put them up at live downloads.

Happy for all those there, but man I would've loved to see that three song jam with Bobby!
if you saw the set from last night it sucks more...
I did, and what hurts is they have THREE more nights. I was at Port Chester all three (which have been my best concerts so far), so I can't imagine the rarities they'll play with a fourth night!
Oh well! What can you do. Looking forward to the official recordings!

I'm ok with not going. Glad everyone who is there is having a good time. I look forward to whatever adventures - with or without MMJ - that await.
All kidding aside, I'm not bitter and I'm very happy for all my friends who could go, and for MMJ doing this for fans. I probably feel a certain amount of envy anytime MMJ is playing and I'm not there, yet I get setlist updates, pictures, phone calls from the pit, damn near every time. THAT is truly awesome!
I even got a tweet from McLovin!
I guess that means you're McLovin it.
the pain is real people.
Some of my friends can't go on roll call for a few days cause it hurts too much.
I can understand. Hindsight is 20/20 but Carl's email to John seems to lead me to believe that there will be many more adventures to come
So basically, I could be coming in from a day of SCUBA, taking a shower, heading to the bar for a drink, and waiting for MMJ to come on, instead of looking at 200 covers coming through my kitchen?
yup
Hey everyone my name is Sonny. Really enjoying the updates from OBH but I am also bummed I had to miss this. I am lifting the dirt and planting the seed for Red Rocks this summer though because we all know that it's gonna happen ...Anyway, what is the recommended group therapy plan for tonight? I figured the "This is NOT America" documentary could work, since they are not in America...pardon the pun

I made this mistake about the T5 shows and regretted it for a long time. However, I probably will make this mistake again because of financial realities.
If I had purchased a travel package when this first came out like I wanted to, I would have ended up losing a pile of cash cancelling my husband's travel tickets because of an illness in his family. I would have had to go alone and find someone to buy his show ticket, too.
For sure if plan to go to a "destination" show similar to OBH I'll be purchasing travel insurance.
Financial realities and work responsibilities...sigh.

This.
The worst is everyone* but me enjoyed a "snow day" yesterday because of the arctic wind chills, so while I worked they stayed home and trashed the house. Because you know, why ruin your day off by picking up your own dirty clothes or putting your trash in the can or loading your dirty dishes in the dishwasher on your day off, especially if it's like the 5th day you've had off in a row? I am like so sure! Can't Mom like do that on like, her lunch hour tomorrow?
*Husband, teen and preteen.
I get a lot from seeing this band live. I get spiritual renewal from the music, great friendships with people I truly love. However, I've got three kids that are even more important to me and a responsible husband who picks up the slack in all of the areas where I'm weak and has no problem with my taking time away for myself. Even last week he thought I should just go and enjoy myself. All I could think about was those three kids will be in college soon, cars need to be bought, and food isn't getting any cheaper at the store. This trip will be over after tonight, but the debt of it would have stuck around much longer and given me more stress than going would have relieved. Plus, when I take off work, I always remember what a former boss use to tell us teachers, "On your worst day, you make more of a difference than a substitute teacher." Having said that. It would have been nice and I really could have used the fun.

Well said, Fully. In a year where I bought (my first) new car, replaced my garage and porch roofs, and went to numerous shows including Pearl Jam in Chicago and taking 7 teenage girls to Bonnaroo, it just wasn't in the cards.
It really is true. It was either Mexico with the band, or 9 days in Fla with the Fam. I couldn't do both and I made the right choice.
I just cant wait for some sort of spring/summer tour announcement. 3 nights at the Beacon, or MWP, PLEASE!!
Yeah, financially it just wasn't in the cards for me this year. I am hoping to make my first trip to a Red Rocks to see MMJ this year!
CHIMMJFAN
The fact that my work has sucked so hard this week has made it a lot harder to think about not being down South. I need some hardcore support right now!
Go hold that sweet baby and give her belly sugar. That will change everything, Wolof.
This is off topic a little and maybe just rambling but 16 years ago I had a chance to see John Mellemcamp first row for $100.00. I was a stay at home mom and we didn't have any extra money. So I did a 4 hour survey and got paid a $100.00.
Instead of going to see John I used that money to buy my son a bike for his 4th birthday. 2 months later he was riding without training wheels - having the time of his life and I was in heaven watching him.
I had seen John in 1979 at the Whiskey in Hollywood sponorsed by a radio station KLOS with the call #'s 95 1/2 - so the station only charged .95 cents to get in. I watched him play his first hit and drink a 5th of Jack on Stage.
I guess the moral is that when we put family first, we always are rewarded in wonderful ways.
Oh well...blah blah blah just sayin'
same boat as all y'all. Taking the fam of 5 of to Kauai in a month, and making that happen was not easy financially. It killed me to not be in Mex this week, but I'm sure my kids will be grateful that we opted for Hawaii with them.
Y'all got any disco ball back there?
