I think we should all take into account that this is a festival that MMJ is headlining, its a full day of music with 10+ other bands on 2 other stages and I don't believe they'll play more than 90 minutes (of course hoping for more).

Is that right? It's listed on the LN site as just an MMJ show w St. Vincent opening. Is it possible it's sponsored by XPN and the rest of the fest is across the street similar to last year with the Ameicanarama show?

Post by: JerseyDan on Mar 16, 2015, 12:58 PM
Its exactly like AmericanaramA. You can buy a ticket for just the fest, just the MMJ/St Vincent part, or a combo that gets you the fest & a lawn for 2 headliners.

that said, last year both Ryan Adams and Beck played shorter than headline sets. both very nice length but when Ryan came back a few months later he played significantly longer. MMJ could do the full shibang, but I just want to give people a heads-up!

I'm tempted but would really like to know if it is a full set or not. Saw Iron Maiden here and was freaking out because I almost missed the last ferry back to Philly.

So the bulk of the fest is across the street, with only  Stl Vincent, and MMJ at the Amp? That's  the way I'm thinking, and based on the LN page it seems this is a headlining gig, but I could be wrong.

I agree that it will probably be a festival length headlining set, not a full show.
Title: Re: XPN Fest Philly/Camden NJ

There's usually a  third band on a side stage inside the amphitheater during the stage turnover.  The festival is broadcast live on the radio all weekend, and its staggered so that there's always one act playing live at any given time.

LOL.. that's not at all how Americanarama was set up.  You bought one ticket to get in and they had 1. Revolving Opener 2. MMJ 3. Wilco 4. Dylan in succession on the same stage.

STEVIE >>>>>>>>>>>>
the ticketing is the same as the AmericanaramA show was the feature in the Susquehanna Bank Center. it was part of the XPoNential Fest just like this is. You could (and can) buy a combo ticket for the bigger fest & Susquehanna Bank Cnter , just Susquehanna Bank Center portion or just the Wiggins Park portion.

******Difference is MMJ is full headliner, St. Vincent playing a long set too**********

Here are the details from the source:

http://www.xpn.org/xponential-music-festival (http://www.xpn.org/xponential-music-festival)

the FAQ says it all:

What is the XPoNential Music Festival and what is the connection with the shows at Susquehanna Bank Center on July 25 and July 26?

The XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru now in its 11th year at Wiggins Park on the Camden Waterfront, regularly features an eclectic lineup of established stars and emerging artists on two stages over three days. As we've done for the last three years, we're excited to expand our festival grounds into the Susquehanna Bank Center as part of the festival. Every XPoNential Music Festival 3-Day Go Everywhere Pass-holder will have access to the LAWN AREA for the My Morning Jacket/St. Vincent show on Saturday, July 25 and show on July 26 (artists TBA).

"Full headlining set" still sounds like it could be a festival headlining set, as opposed to a stand alone MMJ show.  "headlining" is a festival term after all, they are headlining a festival.  I don't know, its just semantics, hope you are right and we get a full show.
Title: Re: XPN Fest Philly/Camden NJ
Post by: Angelo on Mar 16, 2015, 03:27 PM
I saw Wilco headline this 3 years ago and we got a 90 minute set. Ghosts saw RA last year and he too got a 90 minute set. What makes this year's event so special? How do we know XPN doesn't consider 90 minutes to be a full headlining set?
Title: Re: XPN Fest Philly/Camden NJ
Post by: Vitz on Mar 16, 2015, 03:27 PM
And "St. Vincent is playing a "longer than opening act" SET" lends even more credence to the fact that we will be getting a festival length set.  If she's playing longer than a usual opening act, who's time do you think that eats into?  And like I said previous, based on past years, there will be a small act between St. Vincent and MMJ on a side stage.  There's only so much time.

Well I'm leaning towards a full set because of how it's listed on the LN page I saw. No mention of the fest, just MMJ with St.Vincent supporting. It looks just like any other headline show that LN/TM lists.

That might not mean anything at all but it sure looks to me like a MMJ standard show listing, and leads me to think it'll be a normal full show

What is a "full set" or "full headlining set"?  Headlining is a festival term.  Those of us who have been to this festival previously know that the headliner hasn't gotten a time slot commensurate with a 2 and a half hour stand-alone MMJ show.  And that livenation/TM sells tickets separately per usual, while a festival ticket comes with a lawn seat for the evening show.  I hope you guys are right, but a "full headlining set" doesn't necessarily mean to me what it means to some of you.

CAN WE ALL JUST TAKE A SECOND AND CHILL OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

MMJ is playing their FULL SHOW, which will be the same performance length as any other date on their calendar...same length as Merriweather, Red Rocks, etc.

No short cuts, no speculation, no "it reads like this" or "it reads like that", this is the REAL FUCKING DEAL. This is confirmed with good authority. I've been in this business for 16 years and this is my livelihood, I would not post here with speculation, only FACTS.

For the record I was agreeing with you on it being the same MMJ full  length show as MPP and others, and  only posted the LN link, and how it read to me as confirmation that it looked like it was being billed as a normal MMJ show.

You're right. It is listed that way there.

However my point of it being a normal stand alone Jacket show still stands based on the way LN lists it on their site. It's not a normal fest listing with all the bands playing, dates, and MMJ/St. Vincent at the top. The fact you can buy tix for just this show is what leads me to believe while associated with the fest, it's going to be a normal length MMJ set. If there were other bands playing all day at that venue, and not across the street then I'd expect a shorter fest type set. JMHO

I got 5th row center stage behind Pit.  I was not too familiar with the tix section which cost me time and GA tix. But my girlfriend will be happy we have seats.

At first I pulled row 4 but all the way to the side of the stage. After a minute of trying and becoming nervous that I missed my chance to get good seats, I pulled these. Very happy. GovBall will be MMJ show #9 for me and XPN #10.

Having gone to XPNfest the past few years they've had either three or sometimes four bands (Americanarama) playing the Susquehanna Bank Center after the official XPNfest wraps up for the day on the river and that happens at the same time every year, maybe 7 PM.  Then everything shifts to SBC down the street where sets kick off at 7:15/7:30 so if there are only two bands playing SBC then it greatly increases the chance of a full blown MMJ set if they come on at around say 8:30.  I believe the previous short sets for headliners (I recall Wilco three years ago was just a little over an hour) was because performances at SBC need to be done by 11 PM so they got squeezed into a box with so many other bands on the bill at SBC so hopefully with only two bands playing the main stage that won't be a problem.  Here's a breakdown of the XPNfest from last year with set times including those at SBC, http://www.xpn.org/xponential-music-festival/2014/lineup/schedule-grid. Row B section 104.  I think that's 2nd row to the left of the stage.  Not too shabby.

I scored seats in row P8 which I guess is the last row of Pit. Sooo excited!!! Anyone else in the pit??? I hope so!  :cheesy:

I missed the pit most likely because in my attempt to be stealth at work with a tiny internet window open on my screen I didn't realize I simply needed to scroll down to purchase the tickets.

Even so, aisle seats in row D sec 100 are the best seats I've gotten through RC.

im afraid to write this because im literally about to jump out of my skin and i dont want to gloat, but i was able to grab pit P1 !!!  I'm still processing it all.  Seeing them from a front row reserved seat with a great opener on a saturday night, can't wait!!

and if i remember properly, there is half the amount of seats in row P1 as row P2, so the far "wings" of p2 will actually be on the rail for parts of it if that makes sense.

anyway congrats to everyone that scored, see ya there.  where's everyone staying?

joey_rogo - Row D is right behind where I'll be, very nice!

dexter - Congrats! That's amazing. First row with seats is stress free and you have designated personal space. :p

I live in the area but I would assume most out of towners are staying in Philly. You can take the ferry over for $5 which is pretty nice. The only down side to that is waiting in line to get back on after the show.

I cannot wait until July!!!!!!!!!!!

So wxpn's twitter replied to a guy asking what the set times/lengths are and they said "We'll have that info closer to the show, but don't worry, MMJ will play a full set."

my morning jacket retweeted it.

If anyone gets the password for XPN pre-sale tomorrow and wants to send it my way, I'd appreciate it.  No RC for me for out of town shows (Will Call, etc..), and I am off to Vegas tomorrow night for March Madness (Woo Hoo!), so Wed. is the only day I can try for tix.

Thanks in advance.

Nice!

It wasn't a seated pit for the AmericanaramA show but SBC sometimes does have a seated one. I sat there once for the Allmans, and I know Peter Gabriel had one. I think this one is a reserved seated pit. If your confirm says P1 - P8, those are the rows, and I believe they have 20 seats per.

I've sat in seated pits there, and this one is listed as a seated pit. All the Ga pit tix I've had there said GA standing Pit with a ticket ref #. This one has the row, and seat numbers on your purchase.

I got a P4 seat 44 today! Woohoo.

I don't know about the front row but I saw one in P6 that had seat #50. The chart I saw looked like all the rows had the same amout of seats, but I do know they've had a couple of different seated pit arrangements. One show P2 was the front row in my section, as they had pit seats in front of the two side reserved sections. This one looks like it's just P1-P8 straight across.

congrats!  see you there !

there are approximately 20 seats ONLY in row 1.  P2-P8 have 45-50 seats, so any P1 seat is going to be pretty centered with 10-11 being dead center.   so more or less seat #1 in P1 is infront of seat #15 for P2.. People with high or low P2 will technically be on the rail since P1 is only 20 seats.

I am recalling a show I went to there 5 years ago, so maybe the layout changed a bit, but i'll wager to say your P1 and jennfarr's P1 are between 1 and 20 for seat numbers..

actually you can see on the live nation on sale page.  use the "pick your seat map" and it says 22 seats in P1 44 seats in P2

I've bought many tix before that have seat numbers but are GA.  I didn't realize that Pit could be either seated or GA.  I heard of that for Orchestra before, but never Pit.  Now I know for the future.

Also the three tickets are called " Reserved Pit Ticket", " P1 Reserved Seat Ticket" and " P2 Reserved Seat Ticket".  Pit doesnt have "seat" next to it while the others do, and that's why I thought no seats.

Oh well, still good seats in the 13th row.

One way to help tell if it's seated is you'll get a row# in addition to the seat#. Usually for standing ga pit they do have a number in the seat section of the ticket but it's for keeping track of the amount sold. It's usually some wacky number that's obvious it doesn't correspond to an actual seat like 1205 or something like that.

Camden definitely does both GA seated/standing depending on the show. The Mann in Philly also has a seated reserved Pit, but I don't believe they ever remove those seats and have a standing one.

Yeah, 13th row in Camden is a real good seat, and I can see where the buying options could seem a little confusing. The key word there is "reserved" though, and for standing Pits, it usually says GA Pit ticket.

Yeah I've seen it both ways.  MPP is listed as GA Pit, but the Pit tix I got for Charlotte have a row and seat number attached to them.  But then if you look at the ticketmaster site it says its a GA Pit.  Oh, well either way it works as its still pretty close and this way you don't have to worry about lining up early or anything.  Plus its nice to not have to stand the entire night prior to MPP, as that one is always a beast of pit to deal with.

That's pretty much crap, I was just reading about that on the website.  So they pretty much hold back some premium tickets from presales, in this case P2 of the Pit section and then charge higher prices based on the current secondary market for the tickets.  Basically a money grab by Live Nation/Ticketmaster

theyre selling the "official platinum seats" for this show..  im surprised they do that.. did they do this before now?

That's pretty much crap, I was just reading about that on the website.  So they pretty much hold back some premium tickets from presales, in this case P2 of the Pit section and then charge higher prices based on the current secondary market for the tickets.  Basically a money grab by Live Nation/Ticketmaster

You're being too kind. It's total bullshit! Then they have the nerve of wording it to make it seem like they're doing us a favor by charging double     I could almost understand it if it was some type of VIP package with a little swag thrown in but that's not the case. It's a flat out money grab, and typical of TM/LN.

actually technically it is mmj scalping the tickets.  the artist has the right to offer or not offer "platinum tickets" and they decide what to charge.  ticketmaster started this a year or two ago for artists to get in on the secondary market game, rather than a scalper making that money over face, they release these seats for the artists to profit and not the scalper.

not sure if they do this for other shows, but i was surprised to see mmj do it for this one, doesnt seem like their m.o.  maybe a promoter did it without their knowledge?   Although double face for 2nd row pit isnt the grossest thing ive seen.  you should see billy joel and the like sell not even the best seats at 700 plus a pop.

Very  Never for a second thought the band was behind this or approved it.

It looks as though someone has bought  a pair of the P2's, and LN has now added four more pairs in P3. So far we're  talking 14 pit tix in low rows being offered in this LN scalping of their own tix. Who knows how many more they are holding?  Bastards!!!

That's what I would have thought, makes much more sense.  Seems like the band really cares about fans and is not gonna try and make an extra few thousand scalping tickets.  Since that is the case I guess this has something to do with the XPN sponsorship or some other promoter allotment of tickets that may be out of the bands control for this one off situation.

I didn't realize that. I got mine through the XPN presale, and like Henry had them shipped. They arrived today.   My Chicago RC tix are also being mailed to me but the rest of my shows are like most RC's in the past and being held at Will Call.

Not really sure why some shows are being mailed but I'm not complaining.     I thought maybe it was a venue thing but my AmericanaramA Camden pit tix were Will Call so that's not it.

That was unclear.... meaning I wasn't planning on going to this show since I'm seeing MMJ a few other times this summer and Camden is 2.5 hours away.  But when those seats came up just after reading about the afternoon festival with Lord Huron, I couldn't pass it up and bought a pair.

I'd be down for a pregame meetup. I expect to spend most of my time on the philly side and take the ferry across and back for the show.

I went to this venue a couple years back to see Iron Maiden. The ferry will operate for 30 minutes after the show ends. LOTS of people will be taking the ferry after show so don't dilly dally too much afterwards if you are trying to get back to philly.

I'm sure we'll be having a tailgate get together pre show. We'll get the phone chain going as to where in the lot that'll be. No telling as of yet what time the lot opens or where they'll direct us.  Hopefully we'll be able to get into the main one closest to the entrance.

Everything I'm reading says that it's a complete nightmare trying to get out of the parking lots in Camden after the show.  Do you think it's easier/faster to park in Philly and take the ferry?  Parking in Camden is also $30, so i'm guessing it wouldnt be much more expensive to do the Philly/ferry thing also... Any advice would help as I'm driving down solo from NY and heading back right after

Don't quote me, cause I dont want to be blamed.. haha
But I have been to a plenty of shows there and none of which have been that bad to get out of there.
Also the Gold Cup Finals is that Sunday in Philly, and if the U.S. is in it, it will most likely be a nightmare in that whole Camden/Philly area regardless.
I'm going to that show and having anxiety already.
Plus the drive I'm making from Jersey to Maryland (through philly) the next day should be awesome! 👍

Murph, I've always had friends that I've stayed with in and around Philly/Camden so I never drive directly to the shows there. This time I'll be driving to philly, but I'm staying in a hotel with a parking spot with my name on it. I can't remember how much the ferry cost. Might not be worth your troubles. If I were you I'd say F it and park at the venue.

You got it Murph. It's pretty much like any other lot for getting out. If you park near an exit, you'll get out quicker but have a further walk to the venue, and back. Even if it takes a little while to leave, it shouldn't be all that bad.

I'm sure we'll be having some type of pre show lot get together. As soon as I know anything about that, I'll post, and hopefully we can hang for a few.

Unclear.  It's a Saturday, so hopefully there isn't a hard 11pm curfew.

Well we were promised a "full set" but based on all of the other festival sets this summer, I expect a slightly shorter, greatest hits type show. Hopefully I'm wrong.

A friend of mine was at the Foo Fighters show @SBC last night, he said they played til 11:30, though Dave Grohl did make a reference to 11:00 as the time they were supposed to stop.

Considering this show is on a Saturday, I'm hoping they can at least deliver a two hour set.

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure I'll have fun on my day trip to Philly either way

Plus... St. Vincent!

See you from 6th row center

I don't wanna be a debbie downer but I would not expect the show to last much past 11pm at that venue...I grew up going there for fests/shows and they very rarely allow them to go much past 11.  But especially with this being an XPN fest show, because the people working the shows have to be there again Sunday VERY early to get ready for that day.  I hope I'm wrong for the sake of all you guys going but just trying to set expectations.  Hopefully they get shattered and you get treated to hours of deep tracks!!!

im actually surprised that st vincent goes on at 8 and mmj doesnt go on til 930..  that doesnt sound liek were gonna get a very long one.  st vincent woulda played 45 mintues regardless so sounds like she really goes on at 8:15..  if she was 7:30 start, we'd get at least 2 hours.  or even an 8pm sharp they coulda gotten mmj a 9pm posted set time with a 9:10 or a 9:15 start...

With a lot of other acts being around either the day before or the day after (Dawes, Calexico, First Aid Kit, Grace Potter, and of course Annie Clark) does anybody else expect some sort of collaboration??  I'm not holding my breath, but i'm definitely crossing my fingers.

A Calexico/MMJ Goin' To Acapulco would make my life...

When MMJ played in Camden during the Americanarama Tour it was also part of XPN Fest and MMJ brought out Taylor and Griffin from Dawes for a cover of Waiting on a Friend and also brought out Matthew Houck from Phosphorescent for a cover of Oh! Sweet Nuthin

Nice I hope that's legit.  Still on the short side but I'll take it.

I was just at the Foo Fighters show this past Monday at SBC.  Grohl said they wanted him off the stage at 11, but they played til about 11:20 or so.  I've been to many shows that made it to 11:30 or beyond.  So--crossing my fingers!

Also, just saw that Grace Potter is listed as 9:30 -11:00 on Sunday.  So hopefully the 2 hour MMJ set is legit.

I'm shocked at how many seats are still available.  I realize it's not a full MMJ headliner, but there are a ton of tickets within the first 15 rows--including 6 in the 6th row!

Also, 23 minute Down By the River and busted out Cortez in the encore.

That's kind of what told me that the Beacon shows weren't really sold out in the first hour. Seats in the back of the pavillion are $35 too.

Is anyone driving down from NYC and have room in the car for little ol' me? I may need a ride. Gracias in advance.

Just trying to get an idea of everyone's plans. Doors are at 7:00 so what time are you guys planning on hitting the lot? 4:00 -5:00? Too early/late?

Lots usually open two hours or so before doors but since the fest will be going on in the park across the street I'm wondering if the SBC lot will be open earlier than 5:00?

Anyone know for sure?

The show is this week!!!

I have to look into the ferry- dont know how long it takes both before and after the show yet (or even costs)  :undecided:

I plan on getting to the venue at like 7 to have one hour before St. Vincent.  I'll be partying it up in Philly the rest of the day

As of last year, round trip ferry tickets were $7.  With XPN Fest going on during the day, the ferry will be running continuously.  It's about a 25 min trip each way, so it will typically leave from Philly on the hour, and leave Camden on the half hour.  You can get more info here http://www.delawareriverwaterfront.com/places/riverlink-ferry/hours

I officially now have the pre-show jitters and butterflies. I cannot concentrate. There will be no productivity in my life for the next 4 days. And I know next Monday is going to come quick, complete with the post-show blues. So now I sit and wait in anticipation, enjoying every second.

See you fools on Saturday, we'll be in the pit, 8th row.

one of the many reasons i hate Camden!!!  parking blows there and the venue isn't the best.  Haven't been to a show there in almost 5 years, LOL

Don't forget the earthquake that hit the east coast the day of the Mann show in 11 I believe it was!  I felt it at the beach as I was leaving for Philly, and I'll never forget the shelves in the liquor store shaking big time. Never experienced that before, and hope to never again.

Did you go to the Mann show the next year? On the back of those baseball cards they handed out for the 2012 show it has a funny reference to the quake.

WHOA! " We actually experienced an Earthquake at The Mann"......."That set the tone for a psychedelic experience".....

I'm a newer roll call member & Camden will be my first show. Does the roll call early entry just get you in early or is there anything else to it? It seems beneficial for a standing room show, but does it matter when you have seats?

Really looking forward to the show!

That's all there is to it. Nothing extra involved.  I guess it'll help today if anyone has a lawn seat but with reserved seating it doesn't matter all that much. Unless you wanted to beat the crowd to the concession stand or merch table.

Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't mind getting a poster if they are cool, but hate carrying them around during the show.

That was tight. Nonstop tone set w off the record opener. Some great jams. St Vincent is awesome. Great night from the front row.

This band plays the best 2 hour show out of anyone. While we all wanted more I was more than full by what they delivered. A plus guys.

What a show.. As mentioned, OTR absolutely set the tone for the show, and it felt like the boys were feeling it coming off the performance at Newport. First time hearing the new stuff live, and Tropics F'ING BOOMED!! That's a good one right there. Thought Infancy and Spring also sounded great. Crowd was super into it and overall, a pretty sweet night! See you at Red Rocks!

I ABSOLUTELY loved this show! Had 6th row center which were obviously great seats.  It was my 7th time seeing St. Vincent and she killed it like always.  Honestly that alone would have been worth the trip for me.

But then MMJ came out and put on one hell of a show.  Off the Record is a fantastic opener as the great was hyped up instantly.  I was a very big fan of the setlist as a whole.  I finally heard Master Plan for the first time and got Thin Line to add another newbie from Waterfall.

Dondante and PWW are two are my favorites and they were great versions.  I've also always loved Evil Urges from the first time I ever heard it and never get sick of it.

I'm really surprised how good this show was and it somehow got me even more excited for Beacon.

Something else that was a treat was being front row reserved. (Thanks again mmj presale) Everyone is doing all GA in the front these days so to be able to watch a show from there without having a hundred people pressed up against you and be able to leisurely stroll to your seats was awesome. I was pretty centered and I gotta say it was a little weird being that close bc st Vincent was right in front of me.  You almost don't know where to look all show bc you don't want to seem like a fanboy/stalker/weirdo trying to stare into a strangers eyes.  But if you say look 1 to 2 feet lower down, you don't want them to think you're staring somewhere else especially since it's a woman in a crazy mesh skintight catsuit. So you just kinda look a diff spot every 3 seconds. Weird to explain I guess but glad I didn't have to worry (maybe worry a bit strong a word here) about this with mmj as they split the uprights w each guy flanked to the side.

My buddy I went with had tweeted first light for spontaneous combustion so who knows if that had anything to do with it or that was just a coincidence. Either way we were pumped.  Still can't believe the way they started and the jams we got. Just pure rock n roll. Can't wait to re listen. cant wait for November. Anyone here a huge st Vincent fan? She's awesome and I've seen her live a few times but don't know super in depth her live shows. I swear in the middle to late middle at the end of a song she sang "someone to hear your prayers, someone who care" from depeche mode's personal Jesus. Is that something she always does on that particular song or she just throwing it out there?  Also a song where she came down from her blocks I think they forgot to turn her mic on so she sang the first verse w no sound, twirled around and started over.

OMG you and me both!  The gym never does this to me...  I was 5th row stage left and honestly more people were dancing than I expected.  You never know what you are going to get with a festival crowd...I got my tickets by pledging to be a member of XPN-which I have been in the past.  But there could have been lots of noobs that just got tickets from pledging.  By comparison, the Grace Potter show on Sunday was verrrry tame where I was.  She rocks for sure, but most of the crowd was sitting down or videotaping the whole damn thing because Grace was wearing less than St Vincent.  lol

What a great show. I must say that Jim has truncated his dialogue a lot - even since the Mann show when he talked about the anthropologist discoveries in Philly (or even better - getting preggers from the amount of bass). Anyway, always love when they pull out Phone Went West!

Apologies if this has been asked - I was sitting in the center next to a guy with the pro taping setup. Anyone know if the show is posted anywhere? It's not on the set list page or archive.org (although Merriweather already is)

I'm still reeling from the show. Really hoping we get the audio taping, would love to listen again.

Any info regarding a Fall Philly date, or did that fall through?

Also, was a poster never designed, or never delivered? If it's the latter I'm hoping it will pop up online.

First time on the rail as well!

The Camden poster was on the merch list but never delivered. I checked several times to see if they showed up but no such luck. One of the vendors showed me the merch list with all the items listed, and posters were on it.

Whether they were actually made is anyone's guess but I would think if they were on the list to be sold they're most likely out there somewhere.

I'll be keeping my eyes out for them showing up someplace, maybe even at other shows or in the Roll Call store here. Fingers crossed......

I'm a fan now--she killed it Saturday.  I did take a peek at setlists, and she pretty much runs the same show every night with 1-2 changes it seems.  She covered Dig a Pony the next night, for example.  I also watched some youtube clips and the same routines are performed there.  Not to minimize what she/they do--I really enjoyed it.

Also worth noting is that Grace Potter changes up her setlist on par with most "jam" bands.  I was impressed to see that.

I just wanted to chime in about this show as well. I have only seen MMJ once before, and that was when they played a one-hour opening set for Tom Petty back in 2010 (and stole the show as far as I'm concerned). My wife and I have since gotten into the band in a much bigger way and we were psyched to have the chance to see them headline on Saturday night.

I was sitting (well, standing, really) in the 100-level, off to Carl's side a bit, a few rows back. Off the Record is my wife's absolute favorite song, so it was a great way to start the show for us. I was very happy for her! And then the music, and the jams, and everything, just kept coming. I was amazed at Carl's sax playing -something I just hadn't really thought about before the show.  They all just have great presence and energy, and Jim is a terrific frontman. I thought Victory Dance was a standout, but it is hard to pick any of the songs over the others, really.

The key word that everyone keeps mentioning is "energy." This show had that in spades. As someone else said, it definitely got me more stoked for seeing them at the Beacon in November.

And damn my legs and feet were sore the until sometime Monday afternoon!

Long live the hippo!

I took my little brother to the show, a much more casual fan than me when it comes to MMJ. He was blown away and remarked that they are a band everyone should see (at least) once. He described Jim's stage presence as a cross between Eddie Vedder and Jerry Garcia, got a kick out of that.

Really fun show. Glad I got to cross Master Plan off the list. I also can't wait for the Beacon where I will expose a few more first timers to MMJ.

My husband and I must have been right near you, as we were in Pit P1 between Carl and Tom.  I usually don't do GA/rail and only bought these at the XPN pre-sale because they were "seats", i.e. personal space, and the security guys running the front row were great.  Made the experience so cool, but you are right I never know where to look!

As for St. Vincent, she was very cool.  But when I heard those Depeche Mode lyrics I thought she was covering that song!

My wife and I were on the rail right in front of Carl as well. I still haven't quite gotten over this show yet. Im not sure I will ever have quite this experience again.  Like Dex mentioned, to have front row without having to camp out for hours and be uncomfortable is incredible.

I was going f'n nuts the whole show.  My calves still hurt.  Great work by the front few rows, though I did notice a big group in like row 4 and 5 on Carl's side were sitting for the 2nd half of the show.  Baffling.

Ok cool I'm not crazy on the depeche mode lyrics. Dying to know if that was a one off or the standard for whatever song it was.  I saw the 4 or so people in the 2nd or 3rd row Carl side sitting. To each their own, I guess some people were locals and more just going because it was a "thing to do" who knows.  And yeah the guy running the front row was great, kept it very chill and did his job without being a total goon. It really was an A+ night and still feel so lucky. My buddy that got the set list just told me it said June 13 as the date which is odd. There's no way they planned it 6 weeks in advance right?

Ok cool I'm not crazy on the depeche mode lyrics. Dying to know if that was a one off or the standard for whatever song it was.

yeah that depeche mode nod has been a regular thing
song: Every Tear Disappears

I got a setlist with the June 13th date too.  I think it may just be a "cute and paste" of the title error, as they played Bonnaroo that date and the setlist was much different.

This was my first MMJ show and I was not disappointed!! Halfway through Wordless Chorus, with everyone belting out each note in unison, I felt so connected. It was an incredible feeling to be surrounded by people who truly share an appreciation for this music. When they finished and the crowd spilled onto the streets, it was almost completely silent, hushed. Everyone's ears happy and souls satisfied, it was an unforgettable night.

Ahhh, welcome! Hopefully there are many more shows in your future. Every time I see them they continue to blow my mind like they did that very first time.
