Are there any other poster nuts out there that might be interested in exploring the creation of a poster exchange group for this tour?
I'm always looking for help in tracking down posters!
May I suggest that you PM me with your email address, and let's see what shows we are covering?
Has anyone seen a commissioned artist list for this tour? Or at least the shows that have been hammered down?
Do such lists exist? Aside from artist announcements/hints on FB?
I like your style, Woldie.
I'd be willing to help out here where I can. I usually only get posters to the shows I attend, so if they let me purchase more than one, and you're interested in one of those shows, let me know.
Right now these are the shows I have tix for, and am planning on seeing barring any unforeseen work problem popping up.

I haven't decided yet. I might very well be this time. It depends on the size of my daddy-do-list.
If I need to bring tools etc, I'll be driving, and would love to stop in GA, and see you. I'll be in touch. xo

I am privy to such lists with a couple of bands... not here unfortunately. Sometimes people around here are in the know, ya know?
I know Justin Helton of Status Seriograph, Randy Fung, and others keep an eye on the Forum.
If we don't get a Jake Early poster for the SB Bowl I'm gonna riot.
Anyone have pics of the first couple of posters?
Looking for a good shot of the Athens poster. Here's Knoxville.

^Justin (Status Serigraph) usually does 1-2 variants of his posters and they're usually for sale a few days after the show. Follow them on fb and join their email list as he will usually give a heads up before. Not sure if he lists exact times, but will say the date. There are always limited quantities for the variants, less than 50 usually from what i've seen.
I have an extra Athens poster ( I got #17 and 18) for trade for a Knoxville poster. The guy in front of us bought 5 posters! I met Justin at Shaky Knees (he made the poster) and he told me he only made the Knoxville poster this tour. When I pressed him about other posters he smiled and said had something in the works for a later date that he wouldnt discuss. Maybe he is making some for one of the multi night runs or Red Rocks...

Who did that Athens print?
Getting back to the original topic, I will be at the following shows:
Chicago (3/3)
Minneapolis (2/2)
Forecastle (1/1)
Red Rocks (1/1)
San Francisco (3/3)
What's typical protocol at MMJ shows when it comes to scoring a poster? What time do people arrive to make sure they can get one? I'm going to Chicago night 1 and want to make sure I can get a poster of my first MMJ-only show. Thanks for any tips!
The posters don't usually last too long. It really depends on the print run and if they let RC members in early. They lasted about 15 minutes in Athens and they aren't the best looking prints...

Ah, I see. Thanks for that info! So what time should I get there? Show starts at 7:30, so I assume doors would be at 6:30, right?

Wow nice one.
Nice. I think it's pretty obvious from the image it will be a burwell trypitch.
Anyone get an extra copy of the Burwell for Chicago night 1? I'll send $50 to your PayPal tonight and you'd make me extremely happy!
Also looking for a Chicago night one poster if someone has an extra. Can paypal or meet. Thank you!!
add me to the "looking for poster" list. Have plenty to trade.
I think all 3 nights of Chicago Theatre shows are the same Burwell design with different color variants. I think tonight is green/yellow? It's an awesome poster, the photo can't really do it justice for the "pop"

Now the question is... get a serious custom frame to put them together just like this or frame them all separate?... Something tells me it won't be cheap.
Uncut edition somewhere down the road. Wishful thinking :cheesy:
You gotta get them framed as though they were one giant poster.
Dang, those look great together. Good thing i didnt go to those shows...i'd have to own that set and it would be expensive to frame!
Burwell has made many of my favorite MMJ posters, but this one just doesn't do it for me.

They're going to be hard to frame separate with a nice matte IMO because all of them are missing the white border on at least one side, with night 2 missing it on two sides.
This is a pretty confusing set for me. All one color, and no question they would be framed as one, but in addition to being different colors they all have the band's name, city, and show date on them, making them seem like three separate show posters, but yet missing some white border makes it seem like they're meant to be a trypitch.
To me a true trypitch wouldn't have the band's name or city on every one. So I think I'm going to try them in separate frames first, with a minimal matte, and see how it looks. Night 2 is going to be tricky, but if it doesn't look right, I'll just have to put them together in one big frame.

Agreed. Gonna have to have the matting cut almost poster size to not over lap too much. If you get these done soon post a picture. It'll probably take me a month or two to get around to it.

Will do. It's probably going to take me a month or so too. I'm gonna experiment with a couple of different ideas on matting but definitely decided on doing them separate to start out.
I gotta say, I've been unable to justify paying $200+ to frame concert posters that only cost me $25+. I get that these are now more valuable, but I've been using stock 18x24 frames from Michaels sans matte from the start of my poster collecting days.
For these Burwells, I'm thinking of mounting three borderless frames next to one another, possibly against each other. I'm gonna try this:

That's not a bad idea. I just love the look of framed matted posters. However, you might be on to something here. Let's see how creative some get with framing.
I'd frame 'em all together with a black matte.

UPDATE
I picked up 3 stock 18 x 24 "clip" frames to explore the cheapo approach, using borderless frames to tie the 3 Chicago Burwells together. I forgot that Guy likes to use paper that is just under the standard dimensions, so it left a little space on each side. I know many will try to get this done with matting and museum glass and bet it will exceed $300. This cost me $60. When I win the lottery, I'll upgrade to a nice custom 54 x 24 frame job.

I go to a lot of DMB shows and they give you a standard brown tube, will probably just grab one of those!
also I know this was asked earlier but how hard is it to get posters? Would it be tough even to grab a print if I b-lined straight to the merch stand right when doors opened? With a print run as low as 150, i'm nervous!

I was at Chicago night 3 and Milwaukee 1 and if you get ther when the doors open you should have no problem. I showed up about 1/2 after doors opened in Chicago and that was probably the most hotly contested poster of the first leg.

How wide is the diameter John? Obviously not as wide as a "Reno" cardboard tube but is it similar to the tube I had in Chicago? I believe that one is 3". I like the one you posted, and it being plastic but I'm just wondering about fitting a few posters in there, and how tight they would have to be rolled up?

The moisture-proof tube is sealed at one end and features an easy-to-use, removable cap at the other. An adjustable shoulder strap ensures extreme portability.
Tubes have a 2¾" (7 cm) inner diameter."

looks like i struck out twice, oh well, i appreciate the heads up and these were some great prints. i hope to see you do some more for the band in the future.
Anyone add the Waterfall foil variant to their collection? I saw it up close in Chicago at the pre show silent auction, and it's a beauty.
I got an email from WU for this earlier, and Roll Callers have first dibs. limited to 300 with 30 randomly signed by the band. Of course I had to grab one. $29.95 isn't bad at all for this but the $16.00 shipping is a bit of a bummer.
Fingers crossed for one of the signed ones.

I couldn't resist after seeing it in Chicago. I bet they kept the price reasonable because of the freight rape.

You're probably right. Even with the shipping cost, I'm psyched to be getting one of these for under $50 when all is said and done.

Haha. I'm sure being foil it cleaned up easier than a regular poster would've.
I remember we talked about this trying to figure out what the deal with it was, and psyched the band donated one. To tell you the truth, I thought maybe it would be a very limited run but never really thought they'd offer them up for sale. More like a specially item that would pop up here and there.
Sold out :undecided:
I had one in my cart along with the "mystery poster" but decided $60 was a little more than I wanted to spend on posters today. I went to take the mystery one out and by the time I went to check out the Waterfall one, they were all gone.

Seriously!
Here I was wondering if whatever they didn't sell to Roll Callers would show up at a merch table. So much for that.
Glad I snagged one once I saw the e-mail, guess 300 wasn't that much of a supply.

I think it's likely far less than 300 were actually sold, that's just how many total were printed.
Does anyone know when the Waterfoil will be shipping? Hecka glad I bought one as soon as I saw the email!
Foil Waterfall posters are back up. I was able to get one but you have to check out with PayPal. I tried checking out a bunch of times through the standard checkout and kept getting "sold out" messages. I finally tried doing the PayPal check out and it worked.

Still waiting on my email but good to know they've started shipping them. I paid the .80 or whatever it was to upgrade to the 2nd day priority shipping so hopefully I'll be getting it soon.
Anytime! And I opted for regular shipping and already got the confirmation it shipped, so you should hear soon. I'm sure it'll be a bit before I actually receive it haha...let us know if you are one of the lucky ones who get a signed one!

Definitely will, and you do the same. I got lucky a few years back with a band signed poster, and was one of I think 10 who got one of those. Will lightning strike twice?
When I was looking over the shipping options I saw 2nd day was the 2nd cheapest, and less than a dollar more than the regular shipping first option. I figured if I had to pay $16 for shipping, less than another buck was worth it to get the 2nd day priority. It did seem a bit strange that 2nd day priority wasn't all that much more. The other options seemed to increase dramatically after that.

I hear ya. Especially since the poster itself was only $29.95. Paying more than half of that for shipping just rubs me a bit wrong. I'm not being cheap about it either. $16 isn't going to break me, and getting this for under $50 total is a steal IMO. It's just when compared to the cost of the poster itself, the shipping cost seems out of proportion to me.
I recently shipped out two posters in a tube, and it cost me $9.35 to ship it priority 2nd day, and that included insuring them for $300. Then again, I didn't charge anything to roll them up, Insert them in the tube, address it, and tape the ends closed.
Got my shipping email too. Should arrive sometime tomorrow.

WTF? You definitely need to contact them, and get a replacement. No way you should accept that.
Mine came in a regular hard cardboard tube with plastic end caps taped closed. Posters should never be shipped in anything less, IMO. I hate those crimped ends, lighter weight tubes. Doesn't surprise me in the least it arrived damaged being packed, and shipped in one of those.
I hope they make good on it for ya.

That is a pretty cool variant! I do find it a bit ridiculous though that out of the 26 that were made... 3 of them are already on eBay.
Actually, there were 4, and more today.
Funny story...
Well, not funny, but anyway. I happened to visit eBay when 4 of these foil variants were up. One was listed as Buy It Now for 99 cents. Yes, that's right! 99 cents! You want proof? Here's a screenshot.
So, while I figured it was a mistake, meant to be listed as an auction with a starting price of 99 cents, like the one directly below it, I bought the 1st one listed for 99 cents and $10 shipping.
The seller, kodagallery (http://www.ebay.com/usr/kodagallery?_trksid=p2047675.l2559), then messaged me.
"Hi! I messed up my selling cost for the slater print. I would never sell this for 99 cents. I'm very sorry for this but will have to relist the item.
Sorry for this inconvenience
- kodagallery"
My reply: "I figured it was a mistake, but are you not obligated to sell at the price you published? Don't want to be a jerk about this, but..."
kodagallery: "Yes, but it was a mistake. I wouldn't be able to sell this for that price. I hope you understand. If you want for my mistake I'll sell it to you for my cost which was $90."
I felt sorry for him and voluntarily cancelled my order. On my PayPal refund email, was this message: "sorry dude can't sell this low"
To which I responded by email: "Yes, you can, when you put up a Buy It Now of 99 cents, mistake or otherwise, you should honor the purchase. I backed out 'cause I'm a nice guy. I'm also a dad who took his daughter to that show in Milwaukee. I'm not a guy in Vermont buying rare posters and flipping them for profit. Proofread your posts or be willing to eat your mistakes. Not trying to be a jerk, but statements like "Sorry dude but can't sell this low" are not valid. You can, and must, sell low if you screw up."
I had every right to get that poster for $10.99 but took the high road. This guy was flipping a rare (26) print and screwed up. Live and learn. Part of me wishes I held my guns, but I have a band-signed copy of this print from the soundcheck, so decided to be a nice guy.
Death to flippers!
BTW, his print is currently going for $71.

What IS a funny story is how I shared this with a silkscreen art group on Facebook and got a lot of criticism for my passive aggressive ways. I never expected to get the print, but to hear some, the flipper gets more support than the buyer in this situation. Would have been nice to get a thank you from the seller for cancelling the order, though.
You're too nice, Johnny. I would have taken that and taught him a lesson lol .So annoying.

I wouldn't count on it, and always bring my own. I'm sure it depends on the venue but I've never seen one offered. At most a plastic sleeve to roll it up in.
I just got my Waterfall foil and it sure is a beaut. My only complaint is that some of the edges are pretty crinkled. Oh well, at least I got one!

Nice. I like Minsloff. He does a lot of stuff for Ryan Adams. I really hope they do a two poster set for the Fox show next week!
I also really hope they do a 2 poster set for the Fox next week (not that i have any wall space left). I was hoping Justin from Status Seriagraph was doing them since he is so close to ATL, but he said he wasn't. I'm no Dead Head but he made some killer posters for those Farewell shows!
FYI, I've created a thread with all posters from the 2015 tour to date, with links to the artists' website. Its at the top of the Show Posters section, or here:

Not really feeling this Orlando one. It's better looking in person but still left me wanting a little more.
how many posters are they doing per show?
At first sight I thought the Orlando one was pretty rad, even cooler that they did a small number of foils only available at the show. The only thing that turned me off was that after browsing his site, he has previously done a couple almost identical to this for art posters of his and another band poster just like this.

Yep. I wasn't real crazy about this one at first, liked it a little better after seeing it up close but then got really turned off by the very things you've mentioned. I could understand doing similar ones for the same band during a stand of shows but to do such similar posters for three different bands is weak IMO. Throw in the two similar Art posters, and it just soured me completely on this one.
This one is destined for the back of my Itoya portfolio, and doubtful it ever sees the light of day.
I try to keep my posts here on the positive side, but I definitely agree with you, and wanted to add my two cents. Bummed we both aren't crazy about the poster, but it's good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way about it. I thought maybe I was being a bit too critical in my thinking.

It seems Duval has repeated his work, to some degree, before. I noticed an art print looked mighty similar to the Monsters of Folk print he did for the Boston show.

While I've definitely seen better Nate Duvall posters, I think i'd be pretty happy if that was the poster for a show I was at. Fung's work however is much more hit or miss IMO.

Yeah the Orlando one. Pittsburgh's poster this year (last couple times actually) was pretty weak, just barely liked it enough to buy it. I would've rather had something by Nate Duvall.

The Year of Reno, I'm loving it! Thought Burwell would get the nod for red rocks
Nice, thought RR was gonna be another EMEK. Although I was secretly hoping for a Jeff Wood or Chuck Sperry.

Stumbled upon this... Already loved this print as it was, but this looks like a real beauty. And of course I caved even at the $95. And I don't feel bad about it one bit!

Just got my St. Augustine back from getting framed. For now I've been going with a basic black frame just to keep all my posters consistent.
Double matte with a blue/ green on the outside and a deep orange inside. Pretty funny the blue was labeled "Waterfall"! I only wish the artist gave a little more white border on top, and bottom. The only way to mount it to a matte was by cutting off his name/sig, and poster number. It barely left enough to mount as it was. Only about 1/8th on both the top and bottom.
All in all though, I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

It was down to what I chose or a green like in the Gator for the outside matte. Green isn't really one of my favorite colors so I went the way I did because of that. I'm sure anyone who likes green would be happy with how that would look as well. The framer was leaning more towards the green too but I just couldn't do it.
I'm really happy with how it turned out. There's a lot of color in it, and plenty of combos for people to choose from. I'm looking forward to seeing some others here.

I think these colors are the way to go (especially if you're a Univ of Florida fan, which I am not). You don't need to see pics of my posters......they're up on the wall with black frames and no matte as I'm saving cost on frames in exchange for greater quantity of posters.

Haha. You know I'm not really a fan of the Gators, and never even really saw that connection to this until you mentioned it. No question it has a "Go Gators" look. Someone mentioned the Go Gators in another thread, and I still didn't see it even though now it's so obvious! Lol! I just liked how the colors matched up.
I guess it's pretty fitting though since St. A is a huge Gator town. I should've noticed it sooner since those colors are all over that town. It's where Tebow is from, and they've had Tebow mania since I've been going there. I don't dislike them, they're just not the team I root for so I'll have no problem living with it. I'm sure if I was a Noles or U fan, I'd hate it!

Reno never disappoints and good to see it's night 1 specific. I like each show having their own poster even if it ends up just being different colors or a mirror image type thing. Not a fan of having multiple nights with the same poster, and all the dates on them.
I'm the same way with tour T shirts. Very rarely buy them for any band but if it's night specific or stand specific, I will definitely be interested in having one of those.

I generally agree, but I wish there was a little more variation between night 1 and night 2...

I'm with you there John. A mirror image of those two would've been better,IMO.
I remember when Jeff and I were on line for the MSG Burwells and my first reaction was disappointment because it was basically the same as the Gibson LA one I got only a different color. Only when I got it home and realized they were facing each other did I appreciate how cool they look together.
I think these two would've also or as you said maybe a little more variation. The colors are a little too close for me but I'm sure they still look pretty good in person.
I was slightly bummed when I saw night 2 was the same print with a different shade but they really do look great in person. Not sure if I'll hang them side by side or spread them out yet but I do like them quit a bit. The first two of my (hopefully) growing collection! :)

Yeah, I probably would've felt the same but at the same time been happy to get them too. I would probably hang them on opposite walls facing each other than side by side. It might take away how close they are in color that way and have people doing double takes checking them out as opposed to having them close on the same wall.
Welcome to the poster collecting obsession.

Wow. Love it.
Saturday night is me and my wife's first MMJ show and i definitely want to get a print. I have a huge phish poster collection and come from that frame of mind that we would have to line up before doors to get a print. Is that the case with MMJ? Also, does anyone know if you can bring your personal plastic tube for storage? or if the Beacon was turning away people with their own tubes? Any information would be helpful. We are so excited, i really hope the Saturday image is as good as the first two nights.

Tonight was a run of 175 and you can definitely bring your own plastic or cardboard tube. No problem there but I don't know how long the posters lasted tonight. I got in early just in case but from what I could tell from hanging in the lobby they were still available 1/2 hour or so after doors. It seemed last nights were available for a lot longer but that was a run of 233.
I don't know about Reno regular edition size, but there was also a sparkle foil paper run of 25. One of the better posters I've seen. $100 for it though

Hey, skippy790! I can't be sure, but if you show up for Roll Call early entry, maybe some folks on line can take you and your wife in as their +1. Let 'em know its your first show and you're hoping for a poster. I can't speak for those who will be in line, but I'd let you be my +1 (if I wasn't sitting here in Iowa City...). Good luck!

The merch guy said there were posters on sale the first night midway through MMJs set.
Two beauties!
Mr's Burwell and Reno have set the bar high for this run.
again, thanks to all for the information. I am hoping to be in line for 7pm and maybe we can find someone to help us with early entry (my wife is also 27 weeks pregnant). I might try to talk to the door guys as they usually honor pregnancy with the same ADA regulations (i.e.. early entry to get to your seat and relax). Either way we are both super excited for our first show. Hold my breathe watching the set list tomorrow. i really want to hear Lay Low, One Big Holiday, and Compound fracture. so i hope the don't play them tomorrow.
