So, guys and gals, what gets your vote as the best setlist of the tour thus far?
(if ya'll have already done this in a thread elsewhere, I apologize)
That's a HARD Question hmmmm.....
Start here to review the setlists and all available tapings...

Of the seven shows I've seen so far, Chicago 1 and 3 were tops. Leaning towards Chi 3 edging out Chi 1 by just a hair.
I'd pick Red Rocks.... they played everything except rare tunes and played a greater number of songs. One can say Amsterdam. But with Red Rocks at something like 28 songs compared with about 22 in Amsterdam, if you could only see one show in 2015, the longer set would win out.
Hard to do, but here's my attempt:
#3 OBH Night 2 2nd Set
This one gets a slight penalty for the covers since it's close with #2 and #1 otherwise:

But it doesn't top OBH.
OBH2015 was amazing and I don't get why its had a lot of flack
It was windy and band wasn't that tight imo. Still good shows.
For me, Chicago x3 was epic, taken together. Milwaukee x2 was more personally meaningful. There were some other gems in the tour- Red Rocks, Amsterdam, Niagara, Detroit, Atlanta...
However, I can only truly judge from those I attended.
The winner is...
Milwaukee, June 21, 2015 (Father's Day)
This was the second night of a 2-show run I attended with my 13 year old daughter, Katherine.
Highlights in bold.

I wasn't thinking of OBH as part of the 2015 run. Counting that, I'd have to throw night one at OBH in the mix for best set. Chicago #3 is pretty insane too.

Having been at both, though, I'd put Amsterdam over Red Rocks. Yes, it was shorter, but such a sweet, sweet setlist, both in terms of the songs played and also some of the runs of songs (Heartbreakin and Mahgeetah to open, Thin Line-Dondante-Memories, the At Dawn three-fer to end the main set).
I'm also not a huge fan of the Steam-Memories-Steam, which takes Red Rocks down a just a bit for me (though I still absolutely loved the show). I love that they are playing with their songs and doing cool things like this combination, and it was very cool once for the surprise factor, but as it plays out it dilutes the power of both songs, particularly Memories that got much less than a fully realized treatment at Red Rocks.

It's really hard for me to understand saying that the band wasn't that tight at OBH2. To me they were very focused and tight as compared to OBH1, and went into it with a whole set of new covers worked up for the event. They clearly put a ton of work and preparation into those shows, particularly considering they hadn't done any shows in a year.

I thought they were fantastic at OBH2. And the wind, while it may have affected the sound a bit, really added to the ambiance, with the smoke and lights, and the hair in the wind.

Totally agree with you here.
+1 for ATL night 1
Tonight I Want To Celebrate opener, The Dark, O, Wonderful Man, War Begun, I will Sing You Songs, Most gritty rockin Dondante ever, Easy Morning Rebel. And that encore was something else too, Smokin From Shootin, Touch me Pt 1-2, Cobra, Highly Suspicious, Gideon to close it off.
I wasn't at Red Rocks so I am sure that may have something to do with not thinking that was a best set, lots of great songs, but no real rarities or deeper cuts. Still wish I could have been there instead of the couch though :) Looking at the setlists of the shows I didn't attend I would say Milwaukee night 2 would have been an amazing set to experience.

I guess I mean relative to the summer tour. To me, the rust showed a little bit that's all. I'm not at all saying they were sloppy or anything.
I have to go with Knoxville, if we're talking setlist only. It was one of the few that got every song from the Waterfall. Going into this tour I really thought they would focus around the new album more and maybe add some really nice visuals to go with The Waterfall theme. I was slightly disappointed to see the tour basically turned into a "staple" show with a few Waterfall songs sprinkled in. I feel the Waterfall would have gone over nice from start to finish, with it's own production, followed by an encore with some staples and 1 or 2 rarities.

i became an mmj junkie just at the beginning of the summer, and atl night 1 was my second time seeing them live ever!!! (not to mention my first was the night before in nashville, and got a OBH opener [emoji33] and again saw then in birmingham about 3 days later and got some rareities)
I was extremely lucky and mightve already seen my best shows no matter how many more i see.
yeah, i've never been one to compare setlists and/or shows, they're all pretty damn great as far as i'm concerned, but there was a point during atlanta night 1 that i thought to myself, "this is one for the ages, be extra-glad you're here, soak it in."
i kinda knew i was witnessing something even more special than usual.
as far as best song from 2015 goes, its a tie between ATL Dondante, RR Steam/Memories/Phone, and BHAM Hopefully. that hopefully was not seen by many, but carl using a violin bow on his electric made it extra special
Of the shows I attended (OBH2, Athens, ATL 1 & 2) I'd have to go with ATL1. No complaints about any of the sets I heard, but ATL1 was maybe the best of the 20 or so shows I've ever seen!
I feel like it is kind of hard to compare a stand-alone show with a single night of a multi-night run. A multi-night run to me feels like one long show broken up over 2-3 nights, so hard to compare those with a single show where there is only one night to work with.
Any answer I give will be biased, and I only went to one... So any input I might have wouldn't be a fair judgement.
But I'd support any show with Lucius in the encore. They killed at my show and added so much with the drum section.
Its hard to compete against the monster sets at RR, but I'm throwing Vegas night #1 into the conversation. I'm sill under the ether and it broke a 3 year drought for me, so that's a biased view for sure. Dirty, sweaty versions of Honest and Dancefloors on same night was a real treat. Way That He Sings>War>I Will Sing was also a nice run. The only weak spot for me was Black Metal and the fact that the show coulda been about 3 songs longer.

Gotta go with night 1 at OBH2... not sure if it was the excessive amounts of cheap Mexican beer, the breeze coming off the ocean, or the uniqueness of the setlist, but I wish you all could have been there to see it. I never realized how great a Christopher Cross song could be until Jim got his hands on it...

I was at both Vegas shows and would definitely choose night 1 as one of the best set lists. Most other shows I have been to were heavy on the Evil Urges songs. That is not a bad thing but it was nice to hear some gems like They Ran and Honest Man. Night 1 of the multi-night runs seemed pretty awesome in all of the cities. For one nighters the set list in Raleigh, NC looks hard to beat.
So basically the answer is whichever show you went to. I guess that says something great about the band!

Haha. Pretty much!
I have a hard time judging a show just off a set list, and that's why I kept my pick to the shows I saw. I wouldn't presume that pick was better than a show I wasn't at, and it was hard enough just picking one set from the shows I've seen.
I'm hoping the Beacon shows will jump to the top of my list. The bar has been set pretty high so if they do, I'll be stoked. Knowing how great these guys are it won't surprise me.
As a package deal: Milwaukee #1 & #2
Standalone: ATL #1
That I've seen: ATX #2 - Was not prepared for that State of the Art at all. And then Cobra... And Dancefloors. Gah! And seeing Knot Comes Loose. I know it's been in the rotation but I never honestly thought I'd get to see it myself. Had to choke back the tears for that'n.
The Vegas shows looked pretty damn good too.
I wasn't even at the show but easily the best moment for me from this tour was Knoxville; the super-stretched out Steam into the unplanned Funny How Time Slips Away. I wish the recording was a little better but even on the one that is available it still sounds awesome.
For shows that I was actually at, Seattle night 1 is the clear winner for me.

I'm still getting flashbacks from those lights during Steam Engine. My favorite show this year was night 1 Atlanta. I'm sure there were plenty other great shows too, but that show just had a magic feeling of a different level than most shows I've seen.
I think their Bonnaroo set from this year needs some love... easily the best set of the entire weekend, that band was on and angry they were opening for Mumford and Sons instead of headlining.
Red Rock was also unbelievable as others have mentioned.
I couldnt begin to try and pick a single one. I was lucky to be able to get to 13 sets this year and each cluster of shows was so special and unique.
The Athens/Knoxville back to back was great in so many ways. After such a long wait, and all the build up, being able to walk into a theater 1000 miles from home and run into familiar faces with whom you share this incredible excitement and anticipation with (fully and whippy to name a couple) , was such a great feeling and really set the tone for how i experienced both shows.
Milwaukee Night 2 was one hell of a setlist and i got to share the experience with my best friend who is much much busier than i am so he can only make it when Jacket comes close to home. But they played so many songs he had never gotten to experience live (war begun, run thru, phone, twighlight, iwbtwyd) and he was just absolutely overjoyed.
I think the best set, without hearing it, is probably one of the Beacon shows. Hard to beat that kind of rarity.

All things considered, I was bored with the setlist from roo. They played well, don't get me wrong, and they recognized that most of the audience wanted to hear the standard show songs, but they had to cram all those songs in and there was no time for jamming.
^^^ I agree, they needed more than 2 hours- they even had to scratch Anytime from the set list...
But most people at that Bonnaroo set were seeing them for the first time (myself included) and for them, I think it was fucking perfect! Would have loved to hear some deeper cuts and more jamming but they squeezed every ounce of energy possible out of the 2 hours they were given

I agree it was a bit of a MMJ sampler set, and it definitly left me wanting more.. but the vibe of the whole thing was amazing. The crowd was into it.. Victory Dance while the sun setting gave me chills, first time I heard the new songs live... the shredding during Spring just epic.
Red Rocks and Boston Night 1 def had amazing set lists and I loved every second of each but Bonnaroo just was a completely different feeling for me this year. Simply incredible in my mind.. i've seen a lot of shows in my life, and very few have left me talking about them this long after.
If we're talking sets and an encore is considered a set, the Beacon night 4 encore is pretty tough to beat for me. The whole night is up there but that encore was other worldly great!

I know they HAVE in the past, just not often. But nevertheless, this was my first show....can you imagine seeing OBH as the opener of your first show??
then proceeded to buy tix to ATL, Bham, Dallas, and now both nights of RR. Hooked.
OBH was the opener for the first few shows of their Spring 2010 tour.

Yessir! I understand the excitement, especially for newer fans. Until Nashville, the last OBH opener was played on 5/29/2010 at Sasquatch (218 shows). In 2004, it was common practice and we saw it lead off 16 times (most of any year). From the first documented OBH opener at Headliners in '99 through the Sasquatch show in 2010, they opened with it 8.3% of the time. If you tack on the 5 year drought leading up to Nashville, they've opened with it 6.1% of all shows. My spreadsheet shows 61 total (not counting guest spots where it was the only song played).
I wasn't there, but this was definitely a unique set. No songs from ISM and a "How Do You Know" bustout that had not been played since T5 and was only played again at Beacon #2.

My favorite live version I've heard was Brooklyn Bowl, Night 1, which is up on archive.org.
St. Louis had some gems...How Do You Know was really special, and Strangulation was epic, but I think they were saving their energy for Red Rocks to be honest. There were many, many shows this tour with a lot more magic, but it's all in the ear/heart of the beholder!!!
Yeah that Beacon set takes the cake. Its as if a fan created it or something, but better because they did.
I was surprised when people were calling that Beacon show lackluster. Quick Like A Flash was one of the best things I saw/heard in 8 shows this year.

i think the ones calling it lackluster were just more of the "sampler" mmj type fans.
this was also by far my favorite set list of the year! definitely no disrespect to those fans though

How can they take it as anything but disrespect, though? Just because they don't agree with you on something as subjective as a good setlist doesn't make them any less of a fan. There were some really ugly, elitist posts in that Beacon thread. I hate to see it continue here.

i never said they were less of a fan my man! i personally have friends that absolutely love mmj, but dont like some of the songs in that set list. they still love mmj so thats cool with me.
im sorry you took it that way, i wasnt meaning to sound like that
The biggest reason the Beacon setlist looked so good to me is because it included so many treasures I've wanted to hear for years, in one show. There's something so psychedelically sincere about this lineup. But that Brooklyn Bowl show is so magnificent because there was such extraordinary vocal experimentation. There was a playfulness and a re-imagination of phrasings that only happens when the planets align just so...of all the bootlegs, I fell in love with the weirdness on that one.
And since OBH technically happened in 2015, Night 2 took the cake. That moon and that wind with some Bob Marley tunes was just more than one soul could bear without overflowing.
Hope y'all have a muse-filled and musical 2016!
