QuoteJust saw THE DEPARTED  A million times better than Goodfellas, or even Taxi Driver.

I like The Departed but NO WAY is it better than those two.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Absolutely agree, although I really liked The Departed.

Incidently, have any of you Departed fans seen the original and better 2002 Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs? That film is actually part of a trilogy and Marty is thinking of re-doing the other two films as well.

QuoteFor all you Coen Brothers fans, Blood Simple is getting a re-release out in September:

Thats great, I love the Coen's. Just introduced the wife to Fargo this past weekend.

I just watched In the Valley of Elah yesterday. Tommy Lee Jones was excellent in it, and I really like the movie until about the last 8 seconds. They tacked a completely unnecessary and stupid political statement to the end of it and it ruined the movie for me. I should have expected as much based on Susan Sarandons involvement. Is there anything more annoying than a self righteous actor who has to make statements in their work?
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

Nice!

I also saw that a new collectors edition of The Big L is being released... the discs are held inside a bowling ball shaped package.

I just noticed that too. This will be the third DVD release, how many do we need? At least Blood Simple was out of print and is very hard to find.

For as much as I love that movie (its my favorite...ever), thats kind of annoying when the Urban Achiever Edition just came out not too long ago. I had a feeling they would have another one because theres no cmmentary on the Special Edition. Actually, all the extras were kind of lame save for the Forever Young Studios intro with "Mortimer Young". "I can tell you now that Forever Young Studios will never again use non-union labor!"

FRANKENHOOKER

AWESOME. Absolutely hilarious. If you haven't seen this, and love campy hilarious horror, this is your movie. Scored a perfect Ten on the Titty Scale, as well!

Some recently viewed:
American Gangster - very good
Apocalypse Now - excellent! don't know why it took me that long to watch it. i have the Complete Dossier edition and went with the original version.
Heat - very good
Pi - very good. Requiem is good too but i refuse to watch that again, made me feel sick.
The Ice Storm - good. its weird hearing asian music in an american film (i realize who the director is, its still weird), it worked though.

I splurged last night and bought a bunch of DVD's. Feel free to let me know what you think of these movies and witch i should watch first.
Breathless
Down By Law
Kicking And Screaming (not the one with Will Ferrell)
The Squid And The Whale
Everything Is Illuminated
The Good The Bad And The Ugly
Once Upon A Time In America
The Constant Gardener
City Of God
City Of Men
Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels
The Gift
Crumb

Hey true, did you get the original 229 minute Once Upon a Time in America version? All other shorter versions are butcher jobs. Oh yeah, I love Crumb and Breathless (Belmondo is fucking incredible) very much. I haven't seen the City of Man or God films yet.

yeah its the 229 minute 2 disc special edition. looking forward to this but its so damn long i don't know when i'll have time to watch. i might try to watch two movies tonight, instead.

BTW, Once Upon a Time in America has one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen filmed in a legit movie. I hated the actor involved for years after I saw the movie.

I watched Stranger than Fiction last night.

I caught some interesting things having watched it again.

I think this is one brilliant film.

It's weird when movies catch you off-guard, isn't it? The first time I saw it I almost cried in the theater at the end of it. There was something so beautiful about the way it was made, and everyone worked together to make that movie so damn perfect. Loved it.

On a side note, I watched The Night Of The Comet and loved it. Another great take on the zombie genre, really quite funny, too. In fact, the humor of it was really spectacular and carried it along quite nicely.

Also watched Spinal Tap the whole way through the other evening. Can't believe I've never done so, but it was well worth it. Especially now that I can really appreciate the many industry aspects of the humor being on the other side of high school and almost college. I also really loved the complete irony of them being "Straight From Hell" and rarely do the songs bridge over from the more Boston side of things. I don't think there's ever been a better indictment of the 80s metal scene. Everyone trying to be as bad ass as possible wearing tight leather pants and singing in falsetto. If you wanted badass in the 80s, you wanted thrash, not hair-metal.

I digress.

Still have some more to see.

And oh, shit. I just bought these two 50 movie collections of sci-fi and horror greats.

Here's the horror pack's list:

And the sci-fi:

Hell yes.
