The emerald isle. Proof that the Twilight epidemic really is far-reaching. :)
Why's it so strange when they say that the world's movin' upwards?

Slumdog Millionaire. Amazing. Everybody go see it. Prepare to be really, really, really happy.

Cheers. Here's to a better one <clinks glass>

I wonder if MMJ'll make another appearance over here in '09...? They supported Seasick Steve recently, but I didn't get my hands on a ticket in time. I had no idea the former was so popular amongst the Irish.

QuoteI recommend Patti Smith: Dream of Life, but with reservations. I wrote a review of the film for SoundProof Magazine. Here it is (I hope it doesn't dissuade you from seeing it?):  http://www.soundproofmagazine.com/Canada/SoundBytes/Patti_Smith_Dream_of_Life.html
liked the review, and it certainly won't dissuade me from seeing the film.  any appearances from tom verlaine in it?  i picked up his s/t album today and quite enjoyed my first listen.

Verlaine is seen in the background in a few scenes. Patti's son gets some brief screen time. He's a fine guitarist.

I recovered from the show last night by taking an absurdly long nap on the couch while the wife watched movies on Lifetime. I didnt actually watch any of them but Im sure they were all f*cking awful.

Yeah, I liked it a lot...I first saw it at this like indie film series back at school where they showed it on a projector. Blew me away the 1st time I saw it...Now that I think about it, probably has 1 of my favorite endings.

And it is jaw dropping crazy how much weight he lost for that role. If I remember correctly, I think for like 6 months or so, all he ate every day was an apple and a can of tuna. He couldnt have weighed more than 120 pounds.

Holy hell - he must have had a whole new lease on life afterwards. I bet his first burger was orgasmic. I'm about to head to Google to check him out in aforementioned emaciated form...

Anybody see Con Air the other night? One of the best movies I've ever had the pleasure to watch, without a doubt. Absolutely perfect cast, including John Malcovich, Nicholas Cage and my personal fave (being a Coen Bros devotee), Steve Buscemi. Highly recommended.

i (finally) watched the Daniel Johnston documentary last night--wow---sad but hopeful at the same time. I recognized that song 'speeding motorcycle' as a YLT song--i can't believe how many people covered his songs. Has anyone here ever tried to buy his cassettes from his former MGR? i'm going to be surfing the net looking for that address today.

I watched Burden of Dreams yesterday...documentary about the making of Fitzcarraldo.  From Wiki: "The film production was an incredible ordeal, and famously involved moving a 320-ton steamship over a hill without the use of special effects."  And it's based on a true story, athough apparently the real Fitzcarraldo dismantled the ship before moving it.

Fascinating.  Werner Herzog is such a crazy genius.

Yeah, I mightve been fabricating his weight. Id say he was lucky to be 100 pounds probably. Now thats dedication  ;D...you should def check it out though

And I getted ripped often for Con Air, but I love that movie. Def 1 of my biggest guilty pleasures in film. John Cusack and Dave Chappelle were also great in it...I cant call it a masterpiece, but its always good for some action and laughs

I went to the local video store, but they didn't have a rental copy of The Machinist, unfortunately. Another time!

I'm not usually a big explosions and bloodshed kinda gal, but Con Air was a definite exception.

Just watched Barton Fink, another Coen Bros. classic :]
