Say it ain't so...

I was on Amazon the other day and saw that they have MMJ's new CD listed as copy-controlled.

First off, can anyone actually validate that?

If it's true, I might have to buy the CD as well as the mp3's online.  Or maybe neither.  Damn you ATO!

Secondly, is anyone else outraged by this?

I'm not outraged.

I posted about this the other day...that's the way my promo copy is.You can send some tunes to people via email but the links expire after a period of time too.It does allow you to make one back up copy for your own use so I don't have a problem with that...I never burn commercial discs anyway.

so far every other album that has come copy controlled there has been a way around the control and you can easily copy, rip or whatever with it so i wouldn't be too worried

But isn't it like, stealing?

I mean I know people do it, but you can't blame the record companies for trying to stop you. I don't care much about record company executives having another yacht or whatever, but I do think the musicians have a right to their fair share.

Not outraged but very pissed off.
I'm a collector of music & MUST always have the original copy. A) because I know that downloading & filesharing without paying for it is illegal & want to support the bands, B) because I want to have the CD with the inlay card & cover etc.
If someone gives me a burnt CD & I like it then I HAVE to buy the original.
This said, I also can't live without my MP3 player.
So yes, it pisses me off that I won't be able to listen to the new MMJ CD in my player.
Why should honest people like myself have to suffer the faults of others?
Such is life I guess...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Not if I've bought my own copy & then want to burn it so I can listen to it on my MP3 player or want to put a track on a mix CD for my own listening pleasure.

Yeah, I usually make a copy for my car. And sometimes compilations. It is a bummer I won't be able to do that.

To clarify my position, I love getting burnt copies from friends, but it's very much on a 'see if you like this' basis. I always buy my own copy if I want it. Dragonboy's right - a CD's really no good without the art work and cover notes. I also like a copy for my car so that when I brake I don't scatter the real thing on the floor (that happens to me a lot). It seems the problem is with people who copy/download without paying. You can't blame the record companies for trying to stop that. It's unfortunate for the 'ethical' copiers though.

Usually stand-alone CD recorders (not computer) can copy them with no problem......I just HATE the huge COPY PROTECTED logo warnings all over the damn thing. Some copies of the new Paul McCartney CD have the Copy Protected warning RIGHT ON THE CD COVER BOOKLET. That's bull.

yeah, any idea if this prevents me from uploading it to iTunes? Seeing as I do most of my listening after importing to my laptop then hooking that into my stereo?

Yeah, I absolutely hate that too. Damn, that logo is ugly and fucking huge. Well, another reason to buy the vinyl edition...

I think that you're out of luck, too.  The E-town EP is copy protected and I can't even figure out how to listen to it on my computer, let alone put it into itunes.  I think this has been mentioned but I make copies of my CDs because they get scratched so easily and I don't want to screw up the original.  Plus I usually have one for the car and one for home,  And the shitty part is that you know someone is going to figure out how to rip the CD for filesharing anyway so it will be everyone else who ends up getting screwed on this deal.   :(

well, if theres a way to make one copy, then i can probably get it into iTune after the fact. i think that stuff tends to not carrry over.

if it comes down to it, i might just buy it on itunes. i have already pre-ordered the cd and vinyl and had planned on buying another copy the day it comes out.
