They don't release the live shows they play.  Everyone knows how great they are live, so why aren't the live shows recorded and released to the public??????

Instead, all we get is a few live shows available for dl and A LOT of shitty recordings from the fans on archive.org.   I mean, Come On.

PLEASE, please, please record and release the 5 day/album run in NYC!  I cant afford to go but i want to hear it so bad..

The General

they could record from the soundboard, mix it a little, then sell on the website for $5 a show or $.25 per song. Metallica does it (and I have many of their shows) and it works really well.

Maybe MMJ will do it someday. It'd be a success.

You know what I hate?

I hate how MMJ broke the Foghat Rule:

THE FOURTH ALBUM MUST BE DOUBLE LIVE
I'm surrounded by assholes

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

hate is such a strong word.

they record all their shows.  the band has an archive.  they could easily start releasing shows right now but financially it is probably better for them to hold out a couple years and release another album or two.  the demand will increase and the variety of what they have to choose from will as well.  you also have to keep in mind a lot of the jacket's sets are very similar when they're on tour so releasing every show is sorta pointless.  I'd rather just wait until they play a killer show that is undeniably great.  And yes, I agree the Terminal Shows need to be released as a box set for sure.

I loved the live at the palms thing, okonokos, the evil urges comp thing.  Plenty more I'm sure will makes it way to the surface in the years to come.

e_wind

i would rather the Terminal 5 be released as a DVD/CD boxset.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Psh, no hate, just love!  ;) What I love about MMJ = everything!  :D

I think it has to do with the ATO records, Dave Matthews doesn't release his shows as far as I know either, and since Dave owns it, he gets the final say I would imagine.

Was just speculation as I stated, but if you know it to be untrue, please enlighten us...

What I hate about MMJ?

Some of their whiney fans who want it all and continue to compare them to Dave Matthews.

Give me a break people. Start your own band, mix your own cd's from the board, and sell your own music. In the meantime, enjoy the magic while you can and quit complaining!

I have about as much interest in DMB as I have in World Cup Soccer, which is none.  Did I whine?  They are on the same label, that was the only reference I made, therefore I would have imagined that they had similar business practices.

You know what I hate about MMJ, snobby fans who gloat cause they were around longer than others.

I hate how I don't hate anything about teh MMJ..... it makes my Jacketitis act upp severe.... and forces me to filter how much MMJ-talk I expose all of the people in my life to... (except you loves)

Aw hell who am I kidding, I don't even hate that I don't hate it, which, mathemagically speaking, does indeed equate to LOVE

(Not Hate + Not Hate = <3)  = (less than 3) x³

Am I the only one who sees

as balls?

If so, what does that say about me?

Its supposed to represent a heart, yes?
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

woodnymph

Hahahahahahahahah "Not Hate + Not Hate = Balls," yes, that's the correct solution. It was supposed to be a heart, yesh. There are no heart and/or lovey smilies on this piece! So I tried to make love and all I got was balls, isn't that life!  ::)

I can't find any better way to show the love that I have to share! Maybe I oughta read up on the ASCII making thread......

This would definitely be incorrect. Dave Matthews has a whole archive live series they release. Not to mention, Gov't Mule was still on ATO when they started doing their " Mule Tracks" and every live show they have done since 2004 is available for download and this policy was never in conflict with anyone at ATO.

sorry I didn't mean to come off like a dickbag.  just did some quick checking at their webpage and they have a bunch of stuff.  they aren't releasing every show of the tour like phish or pearl jam but I'd say the selection looks quite vast.  It's even divided into categories.

I feel your pain tho, honest I do.  I'd love to be able to get my hands on a couple specific shows.

I have to say I agree with Tracy wrt the complaining.  I'm sorry, but hate is a pretty strong word and I would have a very hard time finding anything that I 'hate' about this band.

Enjoy what we've got with this band and hopefully we will get to enjoy it for a loooong while!

Also, while the recordings may not be SBD quality, you can still find plenty of quality live recordings on archive.  At least the boys have been open enough to allow the tapers to share their live recordings on archive.  More than you can say for other bands that charge you to download live recordings.

Also, I download a lot of Dead shows off of archive and I almost like some of the AUD recordings better than SBD's because you can hear the crowd interaction better in AUD recordings.  Makes you feel more like you were actually there.  Maybe that's just me though...  8-)

I also think the boys are being really careful not to look at every performing moment as another opportunity to make a buck. And I think they're doing a good job of breaking free of the "jam band" label b/c there's not a cult following and people paying top dollar for that recording of Jim at the Shell station on Wilson Pike East whistling Gideon as he pumps 89 grade chewing on a Rolo.
