Dude, that site's pretty cool Ruckus! Here's my hometown course where I first started playing: http://www.pdga.com/course-details?id=96

Three favorites:

Bidwell Park, Chico (I heard they closed this one down though): http://www.pdga.com/course-details?id=40

Lagoon Valley, Vacaville: http://www.pdga.com/course-details?id=93

Golden Gate Park, SF: http://www.pdga.com/course-details?id=2610

And I always heard this one is insane, but never made it down there to play it: http://www.pdga.com/course-details?id=79

I don't even have any discs anymore, but there's a few courses nearby that look pretty cool on the site you linked. I may have to get back to it!

Great to see you on this thread BB!  I hope that you do get back out there.  I know you got your hands full but I just love the community that is built around each course, something Mr. Yim Yames seems to stress all too often these days.

My friends just had a mixed doubles day so hey, maybe the Mrs. can run out there too.

Also, the site that Headdy linked to is great for more detailed, personal descriptions from players.

Yeah, that site's pretty sweet! This one was the best reviewed course that I've played:

Stafford Lake Park, Novato: http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=774

I only played it once, and it was pretty tough...I lost a disc or two in some gnarly brush.

I'm thinkin' more and more about going out and buying some discs this weekend... ::)

Do It!

Its fun, even when youre struggling with your shots, and best of all once you get your discs, it free.

The interweb is your greatest friend for purchasing discs.  You got any buddies that still throw?

Dudes, I'm playing some disc golf today. Second time ever. The last time (2 years ago) things didn't work out so well. Some homeless people were playing, and they were legendary. Throws as far as the eye can see. I was disgusted by this. I told myself I was done with disc golf, until today! Wish me luck! Fucking homeless people!

Belated Good Luck!  Hope it went well Walts. [smiley=beer.gif]
What course did you play?

Walt, I think your confusing homeless people with hippies.

Im back on the horse and had to play again today. Much better and more consistent, though I dont know why my release is late every once in awhile (trying to throw it too far/hard?). My distance isnt really there either since I havent been able to get my drivers to come back once they turnover. My +5 yesterday was pretty much bullshit because I took a mulligan on at least 1 shot every hole probably  ;D

I was +1 through 8 today with only 1 mulligan though, including a par on a hole Im almost positive I have never shot a 3 when the hole is in C position. Ended up +4 after 11 then it got too dark. Didnt really fall apart, just some tough fucking holes. an uphill 300+ foot hole that goes against the natural curve of my shot. Shit do I hate that hole.

Its fun trying to get back in the groove though. There no chance in hell i'll ever be able to shoot less than probably +3 with the hole positions all at their max now, but damn will it be fun when they are all moved and mostly in A and B position.

I guess I did alright for the 2nd time. Played 45 holes. Lots of fun, and I think I'm hooked. No homeless people bombing them. Yes, they were homeless people. They were the same people that would play free pool and drink water at a bar I would go to. The same person who could bomb'em, could also dominate in pool. What a waste of talent. What could have been? There has to be a Behind the Music story about him. How did a man with such talent, have such a falling from grace? He could drink water faster than anyone too! He was that good!

45 holes?! did you play a course 2 and a half times or does it have 45 holes?  :o

disc golf is easier than most sports to become proficient at, and you can learn it just as easy at an older age as opposed to say something like baseball, but it still takes time. If you play a few times a week, Id say youll start to notice significant improvements in a month or so.

IMO its crucial that you have at least 1 driver, mid range, and putter. The more you play, the more you will probably want more discs and that will help even more, but you really need at least 1 of each. I consistently throw 3 different drivers, 2 different mid ranges, and 3 different putters. I KNOW my scores would be worse if I didnt have access to each of them, because there are so many different shot lengths, elevations, and angles in disc golf and each 1 is needed for different shots.

How much it is for the 3 discs? The place we went to was a pretty small 9 hole. Just played it 5 times. I could tell I got better towards the last 9 holes. Not going for moonshots helped. Good exercise. Nice to get out in the sun. I needed to bronze myself after a long Minnesota winter  ;)

Ive always used this website. The prices are good and the selection is excellent. I recommend getting the best plastic (Discraft Z plastic, Innova Champion or Star plastic because youll never need to replace them since they dont get dinged, fly better, and are only a few bucks more). Looks like they go for $13. Once you buy discs and are on their email list, they have even better deals:

What disc/discs do you already have?

...after looking around this site for a minute, does anyone have a Destroyer?

http://www.everythingdiscgolf.com/Destroyer-STAR-p-12179.html

Sounds like it might be just what I need to get my shots to come back after the turnover.

Some of my buddies use this site to buy but I thought you'd be interested as it isn't too far from you and there is no better feeling than cruising through a disc warehouse :o :o :o

Out of curiosity, have any of you been out to Idlewild in Northern Kentucky?

How do you like this one from Paw Paw.  I believe it was over 500 feet straight then right then up again with now relief in site.  I was happy shooting a 6 on it.  If you can't throw a good forehand roller, you are fucked.

Yeah, I hate holes like that. I need at least some kind of dogleg or else Im out of the fairway after 1 shot  ;D

What's in the bag fellas?

These are my regular discs.  I carry more and may use some randomly but these are my every hole go to discs.  Am slowly upgrading but it takes so much time as I have to beat them up 1st before I have confidence in them to used from my bag.

5 Innovas and 2 Discrafts

Got 4 more coming in the mail and adding a new Discraft disc that I never heard of.  I'm slowly switching over to STAR Innova plastic but it's so expensive

Drivers:

Champion Orc
Pro Destroyer
Star Roadrunner
Pro Wraith

Midrange:

Z Glide
Roc

Putter:

Hard Magnet

Awake and only 4 hours to go until tee time and breakfast whiskey!  Ahh I love Sundays of Disc golf and 12 hours of football.

If you've never heard of this, it's a neat card game to play while playing with buddies.  It levels the playing field because only the losers of a hole get to draw new cards and every card is meant to screw another player so the leader keeps getting hounded.  For example, driving with your putter, throwing with your off hand, throwing hammer, removing a disc from a player's bag for the rest of the round, etc.
