Join my group of  friends in the "surprised at me club". I never watched The Sopranos when the first season came out and I always figured I'd rent all the seasons at some point, but then the years passed and I kinda have lost interest. I will watch The Wire though, but it may have to wait until the end of this current TV season. Man, there's lots of good shows out there. I can't wait for HBO's Little Britain and I highly recommend the new HBO vampire series True Blood. Its sexy, creepy as hell and fairly funny. I have around 8-10 shows I'm currently watching NOT including sports, and I watch almost everything sports related, whether its English and MLS soccer, NFL, CFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA football and basketball, boxing, golf and baseball.

I know exactly what you mean...not enough hours in the day!
Consider your self lucky though, at least you have these shows to watch...I have to buy them all!  ;D

I got really lucky with The Wire for $100, Season 5 was about $40 I think...

Well, Canada just got its very own HBO channel approved and will be on the air in October. We've been able to get most of the good HBO shows on one of our own networks that partners with HBO, Showtime etc..., but the new HBO Canada will provide free access to the HBO library and will show live boxing too.

What can I say?!! Absolutely incredible television! Without any doubt one of, if not the best show I've ever seen. I steamed through the episodes at breakneck speed & have just ordered Season 5 & the mini-series The Corner.

First off, welcome back DB - the DITC thread needs some life..Ive tried to revive it, but its been to no avail

Glad you like The Wire. I seriously, IMO, is the best TV show ever and its a crime that not only was it barely nominated over its run for an Emmy, but it never won 1 either

dB - if your 4 seasons deep, do you agree with my choice of Omar Little as the best 'good' bad guy ever? I honestly dont think its even close

And I dont think Dexter can be included in that argument, namely because in his show hes the main character, something not typical for the 'antihero' in television

Jaimoe - I understand your woes. As a student, I should study on the weekends but football is an addiction I cant kick. That said, START WATCHING THE WIRE. This is not your typical good show, its bar none one of the best TV shows, if not the best, ever. Just look at what DB just said

There was a big post on a fantasy football message board site I frequent often this weekend about the best HBO show ever. There was 270 votes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd apiece

As far as 1st place votes go, #1 is the Sopranos with almost 30% of your vote. #2 is The Wire with about 20% of the vote. Considering everyone and their mother knows about the Sopranos, this isnt surprising to me. Considering the The Wire has been treated like a redheaded stepchild by the Emmy committee and limited its exposure, it should just show you how good this show really is

FYI  since your a Deadwood fan - 3rd place is pretty tight between Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under, and Deadwood (not counting Band of Brothers which was voted the clear #3 though I dont agree with its inclusion).

That said, you gotta Netflix Season 1 of The Wire and trust me you wont be disappointed. As someone told me in that thread - you can only tell ppl so many times to watch this show. Its up to them to follow thru with it.

Ha ha! I don't care too much about HBO Canada since we already get all the first-run shows on the same night as they air on HBO USA, although this new channel will save me money so I won't have to rent various seasons of OZ and The Sopranos and I won't have to go the pay-per-view route for big boxing matches. The only thing I don't know is whether the new channel will be in HD, but I assume it will be. Anyway, I'll be gettting it for free as part of my already big - and expensive - cable package.

I feel bad for you having to buy shows. Are you able to stream on-line? I know NBC and all the other regular US networks including the CBC here in Canada have downloads of new episodes - the CBC carries Doctor Who for example and you can stream all the seasons, although Season IV has only just started airing.

Cheers Capt! Yes Sir indeed I f**king love Omar Little!!!  ;D

POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW!!! (in white)

The scene with him & the NY/MalcolmX guy with the bow tie (forgot his name) in the alley, neither standing down was classic. & what they did to the guy that set them up (trying to avoid spoilers here!)
I went around for days saying to my wife "I can't believe ******** **** is dead!!!"

Which was your fav Season? 1 & 2 are the best I think but I truly loved them all. Read that 5 is not quite up to the standards of the other 4?

No. I've tried numerous sites, 99% of the time it says something 'sorry this clip/episode is not available in your country'  >:(

I still haven't seen the Jacket's recent Leno performance as I can't view any of the nbc clips...

It'll be up on youtube eventually. It's a good performance (and much better than SNL's "I'm Amazed"), but nothing worth fretting about too much.

Sucks about Japan blocking international TV website steams.

oh man i didnt hear that, i was just watching a shark week special on him the other day....he was an interesting character and i admire the fact that he didnt want to kill the sharks anymore later on in his life, because what he did in the 50s and 60s was pretty brutal

ItStillJaimoe

Hey dragonboy, the national Canadian networks all carry US first-run programs and re-air/stream many of the programs on their respective websites. I just checked CTV's website (they write my paychecks) to see if they stream and sure enough, you can get all their programs on-line. Fringe's pilot for example, is streamable. Fringe is a good new show from J.J. Abrams. Also, CTV owns countless Canadian branded specialty cable channels, so you can access The Daily Show/Colbert Report via CTV's website since there's a Canadian Comedy Channel.

Hunt around CTV's listings (there's a full video steam area under "video" too):   http://www.ctv.ca/generic/generated/shows/AtoZ.html

Other on-line Canuck networks and their websites worth checking out are Global and CBC.

Although the CBC has dumped Torchwood recently,  it still carries The Tudors, with Season II beginning uncut this week. You can steam most of the shows the network carries via their individual webpages: http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/programs/?network=CBC%20Television&genre=

BTW, the CBC late-night talk-show The Hour is excellent.

Here's Global's program index (with full episodes listed): http://www.globaltv.com/globaltv/video/index.html

Thanks for all the info Jaimoe, very kind of you  :)

Just finished watching the BBC's 6 part mini-series State Of Play (5 hours straight last night, final hour just now)
Excellent, excellent television staring some of my fav British actors (John Simm & Philip Glenister from Life On Mars, James McAvoy from Wanted & Atonement & the always excellent Bill Nighy)

Be sure to watch it before the Hollywood remake (starring Russell Crowe & Ben Affleck, originally Brad Pitt & Ed Norton) comes out next year  :-/

Honestly, Im not sure if I can pick a favorite season. Unlike the Sopranos, every season and really every episode is great. The show was so consistent its crazy. I saw the first half of season 5 but then moved, I currently have the first few discs from Netflix at my place, and will watch them soon, but I thought it was just as good as any other season, and my friend tells my how they wrap it up is great and answers really everything - which should be crazy since the show has so many things going on.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW:

If I had to pick a favorite season, Id probably go with 3. You see the fall of Barksdale's crew, the rise of Stanfield's crew, and the beginning of the integration of politics into the show.

Plus, 'Hamsterdam'....COME ON NOW!! Was that effin great or what? It totally reminded me of what it used to be like when walking thru the parking lot before a Phish show...LOL

"WMD, got that WMD!!!..Bottle Rocket, Bottle Rocket!!" hahah

And yeah, I think Brother Mouzone (Malcolm X guy) and Omar assassinating Stringer Bell in the building is 1 of the most memorable scenes of the show - and I too was like 'no way, Stringer? dead?'. Just when you think he's about to be taking over, bam, done for.

So yeah, I guess season 3 is my favorite, but like I said, theyre all great

QuoteAll new True Blood in 30 mins :) Then Entourage(throws up in mouth).

Ive DVR'd all the True Blood's, but have yet to watch it...Ive heard very mixed reviews. Seems like a show you either love or hate.

As for Entourage, abso-fucking-lutely love it. Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) and Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon) are 2 of the best comedic chracters going on TV right now.

What it might lack in comedic depth, it makes up for in pure entertainment
