Yes, our run in the Big 10 has been less than stellar, but overall solid. I think a lot of our problems in the last decade should be blamed on the coaching staff with teh QB selections. Every time theyve gone with seniority over talent, leaving Michael Robinson and Daryll Clark only 2 years to start instead of the 4 they shouldve gotten, but why do that when you could start Anthony Morelli who is an upperclassman  >:(

Looks like it will probably happen again this year with Kevin Newsome, a soph with maybe 5 series of game experience, starting over true freshman and almost certainly more talented Paul Jones. Our team looks pretty solid everywhere except QB though, so hopefully Newsome comes through. If we had an established QB, we'd def be Top 10 preseason, but QB is a huge question mark.

Im still pissed about Manningham and 2 seconds ILBeer...Although, maybe less pissed than going undefeated and getting kept out of the NC game thanks to great USC and Texas teams

It's funny watching you Big 10 fans talk about football.   ;D

I am glad it occupies your time.

BTW, which SEC team wins the BCS this year?   ::)

Yep, that same Big10 whose top 4 teams all won their bowl games last year including my Nittany Lions over LSU.

Which team do you root for again? Is it Mississippi?? Or does it change to whatever the best team is in the SEC? Then again, since I think I remember you arguing how Eli Manning is the best QB in the NFL or something and you like to post shirtless pics of him, I think its the Runnin Rebels. Or maybe Eli just gives you teh bonerz.

The Capital 1 Bowl? You won 19-17? That was Penn State's BCS Title game and for LSU it was the equivalent of playing in college football's NIT. Ole Miss beat LSU last year, so, by your own logic LSU couldn't be that good.  ;)

Do we really have to do this again? Year after year? The Big 10 talking about their "huge" bowl wins as the SEC walks away with another crown? If Penn State plays in the SEC, they go 6-6, maybe. More likely 5-7.

I did a little research on PSU. If you take away their 2 powerhouse wins over Temple and E. Illinois last year, they had 1 win over a team with a winning record (that would be against the powerhouse Northwestern at 8-5) and the combined record of their opponents they beat was 39-60!!   ;D ;D   No wonder you're talking smack about beating LSU in the Capital 1 Bowl!

Last time I checked, we're not in the SEC. Kind of pointless to even make a comparison like that.

I dont think our team was great by any means last year, but what has Ole Miss done since, well, ever?

45,000 people attend Penn. State and about 14,000 attend Ole Miss; and you're arguing with me. You know why? Because Ole Miss is in the SEC and college football doesn't get any bigger than in the South.

That's true. Why is that? What does Mississippi have to look forward too? Noodling season? But more people attend a Phish concert than a Old Mississippi game... or is it Ole Mississippi, or just Mississippi? Who really cares.

I could care less about amateur sports. At least with college hockey players are drafted already.

Sorry I'll focus. But it's hard when it keeps moving

Actually, they play Middle Tennessee State on September 2nd in Murfreesboro.

MTSU is favored over Minnesota by 3. MTSU is in the Sunbelt Conference. They're favored by 3. Over the Big 10's Minnesota team. 3.

Ahh.  Nothing like talking sports to bring out the best in all of us eh?   :D

QuoteIm still pissed about Manningham and 2 seconds ILBeer...

I was present at this game!  So much joy watching some PSU fans down the row from me turn from pure joy to agony and disbelief in a matter of seconds!

BTW, I was also in attendance for the OT thriller where Chris Perry scored the winning TD in OT!  Thought you'd like being reminded of that game as well!  ;)

What does a school's student enrollment have anything to do with their football program?? Im sure Boise State's enrollment isnt very big, yet theyre #3 preseason this year. What's Utah's enrollment???? Didnt Utah beat Alabama in a BCS bowl a a couple years ago??

And college football doesnt get any bigger than the south because all the professional teams down there, in every sport, in the cities that have advanced past segregation and actually have a pro team, have historically all sucked.

sugarkins, college football has been a tradition in the South waaaay before the NFL came to New Orleans and Atlanta. And without question, the greatest pro atheletes come from the South, usually via SEC fotball (some through the SWAC like Walter Payton and Jerry Rice, both from Mississippi). It's a fact. The SEC dominates all other conferences, year after year, and we have to laugh at the likes of Penn State and Michigan and Ohio State, whom the press pick year after year to win it all, but usually get their heads handed to them by a larger and faster SEC team. It's pretty easy to get you worked up about this stuff (and it's fun, I admit it) but you all bow down to the SEC when it comes to football.

I'll give Penn State their props in basketball...

I dont think anyone would argue the SEC is most often the best conference, but to say they dominate every conference, every year, is hogwash. I get my years confused, but I think 2 years ago the Big12 was widely considered the best conference in the NCAA. Even in the years where the SEC is the best, saying they "dominate" everyone else a tad exaggerating. Saying that the press pick tOSU, Mich, or PSU to win year after year is a joke too. I dont think theyve done that for 5 years.

What really is a joke is saying that without question, the greatest pro athletes come from the south and the SEC  ;D Great athletes come from all over the place!! Here's the NFL greats that have just come from Western Pennsylvania:

Joe Montana
Dan Marino
Johnny Unitas
Tony Dorsett
Jack Ham
Jim Kelly
Mike Ditka
Joe Namath
Randy White
Russ Grimm
Curtis Martin
Joe Schmidt
George Blanda

I'll throw in Jason Taylor, Matt Schaub, Paul Posluszny, Brandon Marshall, and Darrelle Revis for good measure  8-)
