sugarkins, college football has been a tradition in the South waaaay before the NFL came to New Orleans and Atlanta. And without question, the greatest pro atheletes come from the South, usually via SEC fotball (some through the SWAC like Walter Payton and Jerry Rice, both from Mississippi). It's a fact. The SEC dominates all other conferences, year after year, and we have to laugh at the likes of Penn State and Michigan and Ohio State, whom the press pick year after year to win it all, but usually get their heads handed to them by a larger and faster SEC team. It's pretty easy to get you worked up about this stuff (and it's fun, I admit it) but you all bow down to the SEC when it comes to football.

I dont think anyone would argue the SEC is most often the best conference, but to say they dominate every conference, every year, is hogwash. I get my years confused, but I think 2 years ago the Big12 was widely considered the best conference in the NCAA. Even in the years where the SEC is the best, saying they "dominate" everyone else a tad exaggerating. Saying that the press pick tOSU, Mich, or PSU to win year after year is a joke too. I dont think theyve done that for 5 years.

What really is a joke is saying that without question, the greatest pro athletes come from the south and the SEC  ;D Great athletes come from all over the place!! Here's the NFL greats that have just come from Western Pennsylvania:

Joe Montana
Dan Marino
Johnny Unitas
Tony Dorsett
Jack Ham
Jim Kelly
Mike Ditka
Joe Namath
Randy White
Russ Grimm
Curtis Martin
Joe Schmidt
George Blanda

I'll throw in Jason Taylor, Matt Schaub, Paul Posluszny, Brandon Marshall, and Darrelle Revis for good measure  8-)

Matt Schaub   :-/

it was 2 years ago the Big 12 was said to be the best. That was the year of the Texas Tech/Oklahoma/Texas argument. Oklahoma lost to Florida (SEC) in the BCS title game- Ole Miss (SEC) beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl- and Texas, well, they beat Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

QuoteIt's funny watching you Big 10 fans talk about football.   ;D

Yep, that same Big10 whose top 4 teams all won their bowl games last year including my Nittany Lions over LSU.

Which team do you root for again? Is it Mississippi?? Or does it change to whatever the best team is in the SEC? Then again, since I think I remember you arguing how Eli Manning is the best QB in the NFL or something, I think its the Runnin Rebels

The Capital 1 Bowl? You won 19-17? That was Penn State's BCS Title game and for LSU it was the equivalent of playing in college football's NIT.

I would definently say upper tier bowls matter. I know you find it hard to believe, but upper tier bowls (like I dunno, the National Championship game!) matters to recruiting.

The Capital 1 Bowl? Not so much.

Capital One Bowl is a New Year's Day bowl....Isnt that what the Cotton Bowl is???

And sure it doesnt bring in recruits like a NC win, but beating LSU on a NYDay bowl certainly helps. At this point, JoePa still being around is hurting our recruiting more than any team, coach, win, or loss.

Maybe my DeLorean fucked up, but isnt it still 2010? Shouldnt this be the College Football 2010 thread since this year is, 2010?

No wonder Tracy & I cant agree on anything, he already knows everything that happens in the 2010 football season. Every team in the SEC goes undefeated in 2010, whereby Nick Saban forces the NCAA committee to mandate the inaugural 8 team NCAA football playoff comprised solely of teams from the SEC because it is the greatest conference in the history of conferences.

Well neither of them are as important as the Poinsetta Bowl or the Lil Ceasers Pizza Bowl. If you can't determine who the true National Powerhouse is from those 2, then you just can't.

I was going to say, I coulda swore I woke up January 1st, 2010, and went down to Primanti Brothers for some of their famous sammies and a couple brews, and watched my Nittany Lions beat the Bayou Bengals

Please forgive me if I don't subscribe to bowing down to yet another arrogant SEC fan.

Allow me to set you straight with some actual numbers when it comes to the Big 10 vs. the SEC argument:

Big Ten vs. SEC Football--The stats and facts don't lie!

Also, you might be surprised to know that Michigan is 20-5-1 ALL TIME vs. your mighty SEC including an upset of Florida 3 years ago when the Wolverines were 2 TD underdogs playing the Gators in their own backyard.

BTW, another stat that jumped out at me is in regards to your asinine statement about the SEC having so many more athletes playing in the NFL.  You might like to know that there are indeed more SEC players in the NFL as the SEC currently has 299 compared to 265 for the Big 10.  BUT, the SEC also has 12 teams compared to just 11 for the Big 10 so when you average it out it comes out to 24/team for EACH conference.  Imagine that?!   :-*

Yeah, I think I watched the Winter Classic that day. Last year I tried to watch 0 minutes of NCAA College Football, but my roommates watch it, so I was forced to. New year, new season.

ahhhhh, still reliving that glorious day where Michigan gave it all for Coach Carr and defeated a dejected and lackluster Gator team.

glory days!

and tell me this isn't loser talk from the Facebook page > "and Northwestern had a chance to upset a favored Auburn team by a field goal in regulation but lost by a field goal in overtime." LMAO  ;D

WTF? Who cites an "almost win"? wow, just wow.
