QuoteI always want to trash out the 80's for having nothing but crap when it came to music, but that's unfair... Here's a look at some of the awesomeness pouring from my iPod in the  80's category.

1980 - AC/DC's Back In Black
1981 - John Williams' Raiders Of The Lost Ark
1982 - Vangelis' Blade Runner
1983 - Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind
1984 - Metallica's Ride The Lightning
1985 - Duran Duran's View To A Kill
1986 - Kenny Loggin's contribution to Top Gun
1987 - Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction
1988 - Traveling Wilburys
1989 - N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton

Sure there is exceptions, but i think compared to other decades 80's was not that good.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Just throwing my hat into the ring:

Come on, Soft Cell?
What about Yaz?
English Beat is always a good time (you go Dave!)
Fun Boy Three; Terry Hall?

The 80's were no less weak than any other decade!

Let me flip that Paul Anka record over....
My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked

The bands being listed is not swaying my opinion. Some of them I moderately like. For example: Prince, he has his moments but deffinately don't consider myself a fan.

Definitely their last great record (& one of my favs) although I did read somewhere that a lot of the tracks where actually outtakes recorded in the 70's, not sure if that's true?
I need to hear Heaven right now...

the best 80s bands were:

REM
Replacements
Husker Du
Minutemen - Firehose
Butthole Surfers.

Since I was actually around way back then, I can state that my 80's musical joys were lead by:

1) Hoodoo Gurus
2) U2
3) Ramones
4) Pretenders
5) The Undertones
6)The Long Ryders
7) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Most of these peaked before 1985.  In fact, if there is a pop music black hole that sucked up most anything decent it was probably circa 1986-1989. There is a ton of music from before and after that time that I love, but man, even some genuinely talented people seemed to get lost around the late 80's.  At least, until I research that notion further.

These are still current joys as well.  The good stuff holds up.  Even guilty pleasures like Fine Young Cannibals.

Edit:  Oops, I knew in my haste I'd omit some big un's.  I was seriously a Clash junkie in the early eighties.

Quote1) Hoodoo Gurus

Holy Shit, that is a name I have not heard in years. That was one of my brothers favorites in college. I took a roadtrip to Louisville with him a few years ago and he was rockin Mars Needs Guitars! like it was 1985

Today is my birthday and was a nice reminder of what lovely friends I have. I am particularly grateful that they were willing to brave the "wintry mix" that everyone in the northeast  is so freakin worked up about in order to celebrate with me. This is gonna be my best year yet. Nothing's gonna break my stride. Halleluiah. Hope you are all well.
Everyone has a photographic memory. Some don't have film.
