QuoteKovalchuk to Jersey for basically Niclas Bergfors...what a steal.

DAMNIT!

and a first round pick, 2010 Team Canada world junior captain Patrice Cormier and solid d-man Johnny Oduya. Atlanta is a poor pro sports city almost across the board fan-support wise, so this trade won't help draw in fans. The trade might look good in a few years, although the Thrashers have a good core of young talent. Ilya had to go due to his huge contract.

I didnt know Cormier was supposed to be that good so that evens it out a bit. That first round pick is going to be in the low 20's though.

Mostly wish he just didnt go to Jersey

Cormier was a 2nd round pick and will more than likely be a good second/third liner.

Awesome game yesterday, Im glad it was nationally televised, but god damn you Pens....how do you blow a 4-1 lead in that situation

I see our newest member is named Penguins71, fuck not another one  ;)

Anyways, check the NHL network this weekend. My former college is going to on there. Minnesota State vs Wisconsin. Should be a good game to watch, if you're a Wisconsin fan.  [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

Like I said before I bought my brother and his girlfriend tickets to the Neb Omaha vs Ohio State, and was wondering how the crowd would be. Turns out there's actually a pretty good amount of hockey fans in Nebraska. Big arena for a college hockey, and he said it was about 3/4 full.

I really thought he or she would be posting in here fo' sho.

Watched some of the MSU vs Wisconsin game last night, at least we made it respectable on the big stage of the NHL Network. Then I watched the Minnesota vs Denver game, and wow the Gophers are pissing me off.

I see the Wild did a trade. What the hell for? It must have something to do with U of MN not getting their shit together. They just traded last year's Mr. Hockey. The only Minnesotan in the system that had a chance. What a waste of a 1st round pick. Unreal.

Headdy (figured I'd catch you in here), you should be in fantasy baseball this year. How did you do last year?

If you need somebody and its free, ill do it. Or if its a money league, if everyone agrees its fine I dont pay and cant win anything that works.

I actually won 1 of the leagues I did, the other 2 finished like 7th-8th. I just dont follow baseball enough to really have a good idea how to draft and stuff, so although I enjoyed doing it, I dont really know enough about current players. I think I drafted Ben Sheets in a couple leagues and thought he was a steal  ;D

So I was listening to the Pens-Rangers game last night....when the hell did they get Olli Jokinen from Calgary?!

Also - how is Gaborik not on the Czech olympic team?!

Olli came over with Prust a week or two ago in a deal that saw Kotalik and Higgins head out west. As a rangers fan, this deal was awesome.

And I thought Gaborik WAS gonna play for the Czech but he could've dropped out due to his recent thigh laceration. He tried to play last night but could only go for one period. He's probably gonna rest up instead of playing.

Didnt that injury only happen a few days ago though?! I was looking at the Olympic website, and he's not on it period. I dont think they switch stuff up that quick.

What also makes me think that is I have Jussi Jokinen on my fantasy team (as well as Gaborik which made me realize the Olympic thing), and Jussi isnt playing for Finland, even though he's got more points than just about every Fin in the NHL this year right now.

I dont think they adjust stuff like this that fast, but not sure.

I actually like him resting for the playoff push, if they have one. Hank is probably gonna play every game for Sweden so the Rangers will need a fresh Gaborik if they have any hope of making it!

Ben Sheets is back this year, son. It's only 20 bucks, we keep cheap, but since it's a long season it's a little reward for sticking it out.

Gabby injured? There's a shocker. You guys inked him for a long time, wait for the lack of effort and heartbreak, it'll happen in due time.

Dont jinx him! Hes helped carry my fantasy team to 2nd place right now.

He is oft-injured, but when healthy, he's a legit Top-12 forward in the league

Top 12? yes and no. If you say top 12, you're lumping into the same class of the top 5 or top 3. I never thought he was that great. He's not a leader, and that's the sad reality of it. Milking injuries, showing up over weight, being a headcase, not coachable...etc. That's Gabby. I realized he didn't like Jacques Lemaire, and most players didn't, but if you're a leader it should matter, you should lead. He is doing well this year though, I'll give him that.

My money league is called The Marian Gaborik Fanclub, so I guess some people still like him here.

i'll step in here to defend gabbo a bit. I think you are a being bit harsh on him. The injury bug hasn't bit him too much this year. Milking injuries?? He tried to play just 2 days after suffering a pretty serious laceration. Showing up overweight?? Not on the rangers. Torts whipped him, and the whole team, into shape. I haven't seen the headcase thing that much in NY. I watch every game, he's been a solid scorer and playmaker. Not at all a hog or ME ME ME player. I agree with you about leadership. I can't imagine him with the C on his shoulder. But he is definately a changed man since his days in Minny.

.Walt

1st or 2nd year of a contract will do that to a guy. If it were me, I'd be on my best behavior too. Give it a few years and he'll think he runs the show. It's like his 8th or 9th year in the league, I doubt he will ever change his ways. You would think he would give a 110% in a hockey market like MN. A sellout every game and passionate fans.

I brought this up last year, how he milked out his groin injury for over 60 games. (granted, a groin injury is very tough to deal with, especially in hockey). It came to the point were the front office had enough of his lack of effort. They had no answer on why he wasn't coming back earlier. He would do the bare minimum (at most) to try to get back on the ice. Then in order to get money in free agency he had to play a few games. Jacque Lamarre is one of the best coaches in the league, trust me Jacque got tired of his antics. When the Wild were playing in town, he was at Timberwolves games, complete disrespect to the fans and the team. Why anyone would go to Timberwolves games is beyond me.

He's really talented and a playmaker, of course, but don't fall in love with the guy. That's all am saying. Fans here still love the guy, so I know I'm in the minority and being hard on the guy. It's hard not to like a guy who's that good, but he just rubbed me the wrong way.

Sorry for my rant.
Much Greater Than Science Fiction

joey_rogo

No I understand the rant. I guess I just haven't seen the bad side of him. I'm gonna enjoy the good times. Maybe my mind will change when (or if) he reverts back to his old ways. Hopefully he doesn't.

.Walt

I feel like a dick, here you are enjoying yourself with Gabbo and I start mudslinging.

You're right.

Here's to enjoying good times, and USA hockey!
