QuoteThat looks really great.  I think The Life Aquatic was Wes' weakest effort, but I still really enjoyed it.  Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums are all fantastic.  As with the soundtracks - anyone know the song (or two) played in that Darjeeling trailer?
Two songs by the Kinks I've found out, you can grab them both here: http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2007/07/darjeeling-limited-trailer-leaks.html

This thread is stickied once again...weird.

this thread is forever being stickied and unstickied.  maybe it's because it's so massive!

Thanks for the trailers to the new Coen borthers and Wes Anerderson films.  Glad to see my favorite director's are still at it.  Now when Woody Allen's newest project coming out?

QuoteTwenty Four Seven - can't wait for This Is England & so decided to watch all of my Shane Meadows movies again starting with this one. Enjoyed it more 2nd time round.
A Room For Romeo Brass - my 2nd Shane Meadows film this month.
No matter how many times I watch this movie it never fails to impress. Like it says on the box 'you won't know whether to laugh or cry'
Paddy Considine is simply brilliant.

That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Zatoichi. A story about a blind samurai. I liked the movie. The movie included cool fight scenes and had lots of hilarious moments.

I believe you saw the latest incarnation of The Blind Swordsman, by maverick Japanese director/actor 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano, a huge influence of Quentin Tarantino amonst others. Beat is one of my favourite directors and actors and is one of the most influential directors in Japanese cinema. Check out Kitano's gangster (Yakuza) movies: Violent Cop, Hana-Bi (Fireworks - a beautiful film too), Boiling Point, Sonatine, Gonin and his US gangster film Brother, with Omar Epps.

Another film Kitano starred in was the hugely influential anti-highschool, social satire and fucking crazy and violent survival of the fittest picture: Battle Royale... another giant influence of Tarantino. He even hired the actress that played Go Go in the first Kill Bill after he saw her fight scene in Battle Royale.

Here's some reviews and ratings from Rotten Tomatoes of his films: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/p/takeshi_kitano/about.php

wow, Thanks! I'll check out his other movies!
Yeah I saw this one: http://www.amazon.com/Zatoichi-Sonatine-Double-Tadanobu-Asano/dp/B0002W4TOO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-0118925-4478500?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1185453784&sr=8-2

But there were some weird scenes in the movie e.g. people working on the field using their tools in a certain rhythm accompanied by strange music. Same with people who were building up a house and the final dance. But overall it was a very good movie.

Weird scenes? Indeed there was. Get used to that with some Japanese films including ones directed by Takeshi Kitano. Even the great Akira Kurosawa had weird, crazy scenes in some of his greatest movies like Rashomon, The Hidden Forest (which inspired Star Wars) and Throne of Blood. Beat Takeshi is a strange dude - he's the host of that Japanese obstacle course-type gameshow that is spoofed with dubbed English-parody dialogue on Spike TV. His film Sonatine has a odd, slow pace to it too and is not a straight-up gangster flick in the conventional sense. You might not get it. Think of Kitano's gangster films as modern day samurai adaptations, where violence comes fast and the fighting ends quickly followed by long gaps of quiet. After all, samurai fights would never last long in real life. How could you beat a samurai?

I would be cautious to recommend Brother. It's definitely not up to the high standards of the other movies that you've listed.
What about Kikujiro? Far better than Brother IMO:

Pirates 3.  A real curate's egg.

Bad: Far too long,  no discernible plot, etc etc

Good:  I could watch Kiera Knightley all day, Keith Richards looked great, and I love Chow Yun Fat in almost anything.

Overall, though, no swash was left unbuckled.   Aaarrrr me hearties!
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

Do you mean Takeshi's Castle? We had that show in Germany, too.

Last night I went with my brother to the cinema and we watched Death Proof. Death Proof kicks ass. Kurt Russel was a great choice. Another masterpiece. 2 hours of action and fun.

Once Upon The Time In The Midlands - an unfortunate miss-step for Shane Meadows.
I still enjoy it but wouldn't recommend it.

Dead's Man Shoes - absolutely brilliant! I've seen this 3 times now & it still blows me away. Paddy Considine gives an incredible performance. I urge everyone to watch this! (excellent soundtrack too; M.Ward, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Calexico etc)

Wasn't it excellent? I can't wait to watch it again! I hoping that it will get a cinema release here (SOTD gathered a bit of a cult following after it's DVD release) so I can see it on the big screen.
Do yourself a favour Red & look out for Dead Man's Shoes staring Paddy Considine (he was the cop with the mustache in Hot Fuzz)

Sergeant Nicholas Angel "er...mustache"
DS Andy Wainwright "I know!"  ;D

Hilarious!  I was pleasently surprised how well done it was.  Good stuff.  I'm already looking forward to seeing it again.

Have you played the games? I'm a big fan of the games and really enjoyed watching the movie. Maybe you would think in a different way if you played the games. The music is excellent.
