QuoteThe Thing. I loved the Antarctic setting; it was haunting and spooky. Lots of obscure and creative gore. Other than being disgusted and intrigued by huskies morphing into aliens, I wasn't as scared as I thought I would be. But I definitely loved it.

You forget about the most beautiful aspect of this movie:

Kurt Russell's beard.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

HOW can I forget! Shame on me. There was just so much beard action going on in that movie.

Kurt Russell was actual my beard idol for a while after I first saw this movie five years ago. It's that solid of a beard. I'm proud that he grew such a beast for that movie.

My personal beard favorites, or one of my favorites, would be Jeff Bridges in King Kong. Loved it. There's nothing better than a gun toting hero with a beard  :)

I got a new job at the independent movie theater here in my new town.   :)

Recently I saw Let The Right One In, a Swedish vampire movie, beautifully shot and based on an excellent story which was vindicating if you've ever been bullied in middle school. I also saw Frozen River, a moving story about family and desperation. The lead actor should have received the Academy Award for her performance. I thought Kate Winslet's performance was superb, but Melissa Leo totally embodied the character. If you haven't seen either of these, check them out.

Up next is The Class and Wendy and Lucy.

Just finished Bottle Rocket. Not my favorite Wes Anderson, but still decent.

I think its the best Wes Anderson movie. Its right there with The Big Lebowski as far as movies I can watch over and over again.

I watched Synecdoche New York last night. I'm not prepared to comment til I watch a second time.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

It means I have to watch it again, you'll know what I mean once you see it. Here's what Roger Ebert had to say, the last sentence makes sense to me now.

"Synecdoche, New York" The year's most endlessly debated film. Screenwriter Charles Kaufman ("Adaptation," "Being John Malkovich"), in his directing debut, stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a theater director mired in a long-running rehearsal that may be life itself. Much controversy about the identities and even genders of some of the characters, in a film that should never be seen unless you've already seen it at least once.

Im right there with you, but it would be hard for me to watch a film again that I didnt like all that much the first time. Or at least watch it within a few months of the first viewing

I plan to watch it again within the next week to try to pick up on more things.

Went to Watchmen tonight.  Obviously it doesn't hold a candle to the absolute genious of the graphic novel, but it was an alright way to spend the evening.  Quite a lot a camp, and possibly the worst sex scene in the history of film.  The opening credits was the best part.

Now to watch Blow-Up and cleanse the palette of Zack Synder.

My Best Friends Girl

I was at the redbox for a free movie and felt like a comedy, and this seemed like the best option for one that I hadnt seen. Let me preface this by saying I dislike Dane Cook's comedy to the point of despising it almost, and his movies are typically even worse (Dan In Real Life is the only good 1 Ive seen that he's been a part of).

However, this movie is hilarious. I expected a romantic comedy with a little edge, but its not that at all. Its more like a Farrelly bros romantic comedy or something, plenty of raunch. It reminded me a lot of Wedding Crashers, even to the point of the first 45 min-1 hour being funny, then it sucking for 20 minutes, then it being funny again.

Heres a clip to give a decent idea of what Im talking about. Skip to like a minute and a half in. Please watch til end  ;D

Let The Right One In - One of the best movies of 2008 definitely.
Smiley Face - Underrated stoner comedy with Anna Faris. More accurate than most stoner movies but still over the top at times (but what stoner comedy isn't).

I'm a stoner and I think that is far from accurate.. It's hilarious but a blow to the stoner community if you ask me..

I just watched Burn Before Reading.. What a weird movie.. But seeing those three guys act the way they do..  It's worth checking out.
