I think Leo has been hit or miss in the 2000s.

When has he missed?

I'll have to watch GONY again, but I only remember there being maybe 3 main scenes (with the last one being extended) of violence and a couple random acts within the movie. I know without watching again it didnt bother me the first time.

Overall Leo's acting has been solid to excellent.  However, I was not of big fan of the Beach, the Aviator or GONY.

Blood Diamond was a solid, entertaining Hollywood flick as as mentioned before, I enjoyed Catch Me and the Departed

The Beach just really intrigued me. Interesting and totally original story and I had no idea what to expect. I dont think his performance was great in it, but I enjoyed the movie.

The Aviator was his only movie this decade I havent really liked, but his performance was excellent in it and the only reason I probably ended up watching the whole thing. Pretty sure he was nominated for best actor for it.

I liked Blood Diamond a lot, and maybe Im biased because The Departed is 1 of my favorite movies ever, but I thought he was even better in The Departed than Blood Diamond (which he also got nominated for the best actor Oscar).

With all the recent Gary Oldman talk, I decided to watch Leon AKA The Professional. Before you ask, yes it was the uncut version. I would easily consider this one of my favorite movies already. I hate that American audiences are so close-minded that they had to cut several scenes out. Best Natalie Portman performance? She peaked too soon (but not as far as looks go  :-*).
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Half Blood Prince..... hands down the best of the series. It's my favorite book of the series so I had to really seperate the book from the movie as there are many difference. The acting was great, the special effects were great, the story is fantastic (even with the changes). There was humor in small doses in just the right places.

I watched the Departed last night. I had not seen it before. DiCaprio and Nicholson were great.  I would not have watched it if not for those two. I can't stand Damon and Baldwin.

The end surprised me a lot and made me a little mad...then Wahlberg made it more satisfying.

I still liked GONY better, but I was glad I watched this.

GONY is great, but The Departed is on another level for me. The only things that give GONY a chance against it are Daniel Day Lewis and the amazing visual aesthethic.

I enjoyed the acting/characters more all around in The Departed (and DiCaprio was better in it, def my favorite character of his and probably he best performance to date), same with the dialogue and soundtrack. There are so many suspenseful and basically climactic scenes as well, and while there were some twists, there were a ton of scenes that could have gone many different ways, leaving you really in the dark on what would happen next. Considering how many characters had significant screen time in the movie, I was amazed at all well they all were developed and how you felt you really knew them and their personality, and what they were going through and even how they would react to a situation.

Nothing against GONY and I like it more than most people probably, for me The Departed is just 1 of the best movies ever made.

Since were kind of on the topic, how bout everyone lists their favorite Marty Scorsese movies?

Here's a list of all of them: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000217/

This is tough, but of what Ive seen mine would look something like:

1. Goodfellas
2. The Departed
3. Casino
4. Taxi Driver

5. The Color of Money
6. Gangs of New York

7. Cape Fear
8. Mean Streets
9. Raging Bull

10. The King of Comedy
11. Bringing Out The Dead
12. The Aviator

Man...I know he's done other stuff, but I figured I could list closer to 20 movies than 10.

I cant rank them against the movies, but The Last Waltz and No Direction Home: Bob Dylan were both excellent as well. Still need to see his Rolling Stones one from last year.

I spaced them apart to kind of show tiers. Top tier is all time classic, 2nd tier is great films and best picture worthy for their year, 3rd is very good movies, last is good.

-Paul Newman in Color of Money is why that one is so high
-De Niro's performance as Max Cady in the Cape Fear remake is why thats maybe higher than most would rank it. One of my favorite De Niro performances.
-Raging Bull is probably the only movie that is conspicuously out of place in my list compared to popular opinion. I only saw it once, and maybe it was the expectations, but I didnt think it was anything too special. Maybe another viewing would move it higher, but no way it moves higher than 5.
-The last 3 I thought were all solid movies, theyre mostly so low because of whats ahead of them though. They cant hang with those heavyweights. Dont remember much of Bringing Out The Dead, but like I said, everything ahead of it I like too much for it to move up more than 1 or 2 spots.

do his music films count? if they did, this list would require too much thinking. Last Waltz is probably the best music film around rivaled only by Woodstock, witch Martie had a hand in as well.

these are all the Scorsese movie's I've seen:
1. Taxi Driver
2. Goodfella's
3. Casino

13. Bringing Out The Dead
14. After Hours

I mean, the music ones count which is why I mentioned them, but I couldnt rank them against a movie.

And since you havent seen it, Color of Money is must see. I liked Paul Newman in it more than The Hustler.

sorry,  didn't read the second part of your post, witch mentioned the Last Waltz. I haven't seen The Hustler either. Did recently watch Cool Hand Luke though-very good.

I will stand by you as crazy then...I wrote a 10-page paper on GONY for a class in college. It was a class where you analyze movies as a book. Very interesting class. We watched movies the whole semester and discussed them as pieces of literature. I was an English major and it was an experimental first-time class...anyway, GONY will stand in my top 5 personally. I will have to watch more movies to make a list about favorites from Martin...

was back in PA over the weekend and went to a local drive-in to catch The Hangover and Public Enemies (again). For 6 bucks, you can't beat the price...and being able to bring your own food and alcohol.

Yes both and its fucking hilarious.  ;D
Both and it IS fucking hilarious. Pun intended.

I think this might be the funniest movie I have ever seen.  Well, neck and neck with Old School.

The Alabama stuff was not stagged apparently. It got heated at one point.
