Thanks for the comments. Surgery is scheduled for Sept. 16. I have a defective (bicuspid) aortic valve that will be replaced with a prosthetic valve.  I also have a slowly growing aneurysm of the ascending aorta, so there will be a prosthetic aortic root-to-arch repair as well, which really drives the need for surgery. Looking at a week in the hospital followed by 1 to 2 months recovery.  Should be in good shape to show off my zipper chest scar at One Big Holiday!

Hey John,

All the best with the surgery. Good thing you found out about it now. Calendar is marked and we will be sending good vibes your way.

Hope that all goes well with your surgery John!  I too will be sending good vibes your way on the 16th!

Psyched for Deer Tick in 30. In the meantime, hanging in the beer garden with Strand of Oaks, stopping through Iowa City.

So, was Strand of Oaks just passing thru and happened to be there to catch Deer Tick?  That's pretty cool!

Well, I'm bummed because I had to cross off Bob Weir and Ratdog with CRB due to the Ratdog cancellation, but I'm also happy to say that CRB picked up solo dates and added Cleveland on Sept. 8th!

9/3   Wilco @ LC Pavillion, Columbus, OH
9/4   Wilco @ Akron Civic Theater, Akron, OH
9/8   Chris Robinson Brotherhood @ Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland, OH

9/17  The War On Drugs @ Newport Music Hall, Columbus, OH
9/19  J Roddy Walston @ Newport Music Hall, Columbus, OH

I'm also in talks with a buddy of mine from college who lives in Raleigh about going down and spending a weekend with him and CRB in November.  Hopefully it will work out...

Best of luck with all this reconstruction, John.  It's amazing what they can do these days and I'm confident you'll pull through just fine with all of this.  Good to get all of this behind you before OBH and the Big Tour in 2015.  Ms GO4IT and I will be thinking of you and looking forward to seeing you on the tour next year, maybe at Merriweather among other places!

Acoustic show, I believe. I tried to convince my NH peeps to go to Portsmouth on Saturday, but they're lame. Saw my last M. Ward show in Portland (State Theater). Have a good time, CTdh!
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Daniel Martin Moore and his band will be performing at the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown, Kentucky this Friday night (10/3/2014) at 7:30. Joan Shelley will be opening for Daniel.

I've been digging Joan Shelley a lot lately, and that record she did with DMM is fantastic.

New Pornographers 10-17 at the Wiltern.
My son turns 21 on 12-06, and for his birthday he wanted tickets to American Football, who are not bad. Got 4 of them. The show is 3 days after he turns 21 at the Fonda in Hollywood, an amazing venue. Taking him, his 24 year old brother, and a friend of mine. Gonna be my first time having a legal beer with both my boys.  :cheesy:

Jayhawks 3 shows in Mexico end of January, followed by 2 DBT shows a few days later at the same festival, followed by OBH2. Damn, my 3 favorite bands all in Mexico over 10 days. Not seeing any of them.

Really impressive band, especially the Dan Bejar, aka Destroyer material (I'm assuming he'll be there). Neko Case turning up would be a bonus too!
