I found these videos this weekend and it reminded me how much great music was coming out in the early 90's (Janes Addiction, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, REM, Screaming Trees, Sugar, RATM, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pavement, etc... can't name them all)

The Late Show - No Nirvana - Part 1

The Late Show - No Nirvana - Part 2

The Late Show - No Nirvana - Part 3

The Late Show - No Nirvana - Part 4

Be the cliché you want to see in the world.

This is what I grew up with. I was never much of a Nirvana fan though. But there are certain songs/bands that epitomize the early 90s sound for me - Dino Jr being the best example.

The following are others that transport me instantly:

Nada Surf - Deeper Well
Lemonheads - Rudderless (Live, 2005)

Yo La Tengo - Sugarcube (even though this came out in '97 I believe)

Oh, Tracy - you know how to take my Monday blues away.

The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
I'm not saying it's easy...walking into sweet oblivion.

And speaking of the Foo Fighters (I saw that documentary as well - don't hate 'em, don't love 'em) - I did love the work of their original rhythm section:

Seven - Sunny day real estate

And this:

Presidents Of The USA - 07 Stranger (live) - Snow Job - 1996

Interesing! I work for MuchMusic, but didn't work any of their Snow Job specials. I started working at Much in '95.

It looks like a cool event. I'm a huge PUSA fan. I have a signed setlist from their 2005 tour. I was supposed to meet them, but I had to be in school court to get thrown out.

Seriously how great was that first PUSA album, I should look into their other stuff.

I didn't know how good we had it in the 90's until they were over.
I've been listening to Folk Implosion a lot, overlooked band from mid 90's featuring Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh.

The Folk Implosion - Natural One (1995)
Folk Implosion - Pole Position - Dare To Be Surprised

Butthole Surfers
Butthole Surfers - Who Was in My Room Last Night
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

bluesky

just saw sebadoh Saturday at the bowery. Lou Barlow kicks ass!!!

Here's the rundown:

PUSA I = one of the greatest
PUSA II = for a sophomore album, it is exceptional. Highly recommend
volcano
Freaked Out and Small = meh. It has its songs, they're like cheap gum from the $.25 cent machine. They taste great at first but they lose their flavor pretty fast
jupiter live!
Love Everybody = Awesome album. They kinda dropped the kitsch for this one and made what I think is a very straight forward album that has no skippable tracks
The Presidents Of The USA - Drool At You
These Are the Good Times People = again, another awesome album, and it sort of is a combination of the kitschy parts of their first two albums with the musical stylings of Love Everybody
Ladybug - The Presidents Of The USA
Sharpen Up Those Fangs - TPOTUSA

A few others

The Flaming Lips Pilot at the Queer of God
Morphine - Cure for Pain
Polaris - Coronado II

Great Lips song! I got into Lips with their more recent stuff first and then went back through their older stuff and Transmissions is becoming one of my favorite albums of theirs.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

That's a good one - it even inspired a Pearl Jam song called Bee Girl.  But, this has to take the cake for 90s videos:

Temple of the Dog- Hungerstrike

It's got it all...fire...flannel...Eddie Vedder in some reeds?  wtf?

Thanks for the PUSA run down Chode, and Clouds Taste Metallic Lips is an oft-overlooked resource in the Lips world these days. Wishing they would pull some of that out live once in a while. Always wanted to see Lightning Strikes the Postman live.

Polaris, Mark Mulcahey both emniate 90's for me as well.

1991 PJ Harvey's debut album Dry. Pretty amazing from start to finish.

I love Sunny Day. Saw them last year when they came to Australia. You're right, Nate and William are a great rhythm section.
How loud can silence get?
