hey-zeus, the fitzpatrick is that much?  How about the sheraton?  If you're willing to travel a bit more and stay in manhattan, financial district SHOULD have cheaper hotels...ghost town at night, but should save you $$$.  Another other hotel I know people have gotten decent rates - Renaissance on 57th street.

Beware of Broadway tix, some shows (Book of Mormon) have sky-high prices

Yeah I've been looking on Stubhub, BoM is like 250$ a ticket... oof. My hope is that there will be people desperate to get rid of the tickets closer to the show and I can get some for 150 or less but I realize that is being optimistic.

thanks for the info. I'll look around.

e-wind: I would just take advice from ericm and others who have actually stayed in Jersey and travelled into the city from there.  It wouldn't hurt to pice out some hotels in Queens or Long Island City but it sounds like NJ might be a few bucks cheaper.

Sidenote: Besides some completely ignorant comments this thread makes me happy.  :)
[/b]

Hey lil sis i hope you weren't talking about my ignorant comment that i made to Eric/e_wind about NYC?  It was only meant as info and not to rip on e_wind.
No not you.  It was directed toward edierevolution's idiotic comment.  I just can't stand ignorant comments like that.

Hey... c'mon... obviously it was meant a bit in jest. I wasn't knocking the people of NJ... or some of the great things that I have come out of the area (Springsteen, deep-fried hot dogs, etc.)...

Look... I work literally 3 minutes away from the Sheraton Meadowlands. It's not like this area is absolutely horrible, and I've never actually been inside that hotel. But there just ain't much around here. And the NJ Transit regularly has horrible delays. And it is more expensive than the subway ($4 is more than $2.25). And it's just my personal opinion, that Secaucus, NJ is a pretty depressing place in general. But if I offended you with my comments, sorry. I'm not looking to pick fights here.

But really... if you haven't spent much time in NYC... I just think it makes sense to stay in the city. And I live in the Astoria / Long Island City area... so I'm always advocating that people stay there. I just think it's the bee's knees. Lots of great bars and restaurants. Great views of Manhattan. Astoria is the most diverse place on the entire planet. It's a pretty darned cool place to check out, so I try and make it my business to spread the good word.

Anyway... enough of this. Hopefully nobody's too mad at me... but I guess there ain't much I can do about it!

BoM also does standing room and ticket lottery that are much cheaper... but kind of an all day ordeal.

whoa, do you think the standing room tickets require getting in line hours early?

and about the hotels/NJ thing. I would rather stay in the city, but I know NOTHING about NYC so I don't know what areas are good to stay in, and what areas are just too far away or have nothing to them. Also, I'm 21, go to school, and work in a shitty restaurant. I can't exactly afford to stay in a ritzy place. If anyone can tell me a part of the city that has awesome bars/restaurants,  isn't as expensive as Manhattan, and isn't a 30 minute+ subway ride to Manhattan I would definitely consider it. That place seems not to exist though. NYC is an expensive place, especially that close to the holidays.

Unfortunately, yes.

I went by the theatre a few weeks ago on a weekday around 1:30pm, and there were already about 20 or so people lined up for the evening performance standing room.

But, if you've got a good book and someone to wait with you (for bathroom breaks and food)... It's not THAT bad. I can think of worse ways to spend the day. And I've never heard anyone say that BoM is anything short of amazing. But, yeah, it's a hassle.

Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere else but does anyone know if we get our tickets mailed to us or do we get them at will call? Because I thought when I checked out it said will call but it also then asked for your shipping address.
So, I do believe.....

Hehe, thanks my friend!  ;)

Now my next question... what time do you think we'll have to get in line?  :)

Hey all!!!!  :D

Longtime no see!

So I didn't think I was going to be able to make the show - and I missed the pre-sale.

Anyway, I'm all in now and can't wait to see you guys!

My problem is, the only tickets that are left on ticketbastard are straight up nosebleeds.  I mean, I'll do what I'll have to but I have been real spoiled these last few years at MMJ shows and I am not sure that I can handle being a million miles away at this point.

So, if any of you guys know where I can grab two great seats I will be forever in your debt.  I got an MMJ virgin coming with me, and I'd love to show him what's up.

Thanks!!!
Jd

Depends on what time doors are.

I'd imagine lining up sometime around 5:00 give or take, should be good, but your guess is as good as mine.

Good thing the pre-party will be at Stout NYC only 1/2 block away. We could always have someone make a quick run over and see if a line is forming every once in a while.  ;)

Thanks Trish! Keep me in the loop... Looking forward to seeing you guys!

If any of you are spending the day in the city and want to check out a place that has the all-time best jukebox on the planet you should check out a bar called Hi-Fi.  I try to stop there every time I go to the city.  It's roughly 2 miles from Penn Station but it's worth it.  They'll have 2-fers until 8pm and I guarantee that they'll have every MMJ album in the jukebox without having to pay extra for one of those super search jukeboxes.

So, I've decided to take the choo choo from NH to NYC for this adventure.

Cool thing was doing a Mapquest to see where Penn Station is in relation to Madison Square Garden.  Pretty fuckin' sweet!  Honestly, I had no idea.  ;D

http://mapq.st/qHuhI7

If anyone else is going from northern New England, I'm taking a bus from Concord, NH (7 AM) to Boston-South station, then Amtrak (9:35 AM) to Penn Station, arriving just before 2 PM.  It will be train 93 Northeast Regional.

$63 each way ($14 bus + $49 train)

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

ericm

Pretty cool isn't it Johnny? You don't even have to go outside to get to MSG if you don't want to. Just an fyi... the big round building is MSG, and the tall rectangular one in front on 7th ave. is Penn Plaza. Not sure why they're both labeled MSG in the pic, except both are part of the same complex.

NJ Transit, Path, Amtrak, and Long Island RR, all come into Penn Station one way or another. It's pretty safe to say, you could get to just about anywhere in the continental US from Penn St. NYC.

If you look on that pic you linked, facing east (7th ave.) go 1/2 block north and 1/2 block east (w. 33rd) and that is where we'll hopefully have the pre-party. Stout NYC, the best spot to go pre-anything MSG, especially concerts.

Can't wait, and like I said earlier....great choice on taking the train.

Forgive me for going so far off topic but I cant help it:

When the original Penn Station was demolished 1963 to make way for the old MSG, America lost its greatest train station. It remains a low point in our city's architectual  history.

The current Penn Station is a windowless hell hole, dis-organised and loathed by everybody in the try-state area.

It is convenient, but utterly charmless.

(There is a plan to move Penn into the nearby Post Office Building  - but funding looks unlikely)

Course with two GA West tix awaiting, I will be happily dancing on Penn Station's grave.

StaggerLee

Ok so back to the forums after an awesome vacation and a few days of catching up on work bullshit!  Was in Aruba when the MSG show was released and when they had the roll call.  Peafunk and I were able to get tix from tixmaster.  Not great seats but not horrible either.

To make a long story short.  Good to be back and can't wait to see yall in NYC.  Add the wife and I to the party list.

By the way Band of Horses as the opener; I honestly cannot dream up a better opener.  Horses are so flipping unbelievable live.   To qoute my wife, MMJ and Horses is "a musical orgasm".
