This seems pretty darn good for an solo album and one that hasn't even been released yet:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #61 in Music (See Top 100 in Music)
#2 in Music > Alternative Rock > Indie & Lo-Fi > Indie Rock
#8 in Music > Pop > Adult Alternative
#32 in Music > Rock
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Nice find BH!

I hope Jim has a lot of success with this.  A New Life could definitely grab some new people if radio caught wind of it.

I can't believe I have actually held off from listening to any of Jim's solo album (except the singels, New Life and Know Til Now).

The anticipation has been driving me crazy. With all the great reports on his Nashville show, NPR streaming his album, and all the reviews.

I am so looking forward to sinking my teeth into new Jim James music at midnight tonight!!!!!!!!

Rolling Stone describes MMJ as Southern Zeppelin/Radiohead. I can handle that. This album reminds me of Marvin Gay meets Radiohead, and I thought of that prior to reading the RS review. I HATE TO GIVE RADIOHEAD THAT MUCH CREDIT. I like em, but the pedestal they are placed on is far too high. Jim has used their influence to improve on the genre, in my opinion. Just like he has with Neil Young. (fighting words for most people I know)

Listened to this for the first time tonight.  I was impressed and feel that this will grow on me immensely with several listens.

Its now #48 in all Amazon music sales, the day before the release date.   It's been in the top 100 for 8 days.  I think Jim's album will sell well.

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Shit you guys, this is so good.

Just downloaded it to my iPhone on Rhapsody. Now I can listen to it in my car, or anywhere else, instead of NPR. Great album. Much better positive impression than I had with the release of Circuital.

With two songs originally for Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and two songs originally for Regions of Light Sound of God, Circuital seems more and more like leftovers. Though leftovers can be twice as nice the next day!

BH

It's $7.99 at Best Buy.   That should help first week album sales.

It's $5.99 on amazon for MP3 format.

interesting...which Circuital songs are you speaking of?

I don't know if I'm the last person on this, but Jim definitely took inspiration for AEIOU from this song: Traffic - Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys (Uncut Long Version)  Pretty cool.

It was in that recent, awesome article by fellow Bostonian Ben Kaye in Consequence of Sound. Wonderful and Outta My System were for Dr. Teeth. Movin Away and The Day Is Coming were originally solo material.

Those are the two I wouldve guessed. I'm glad they didn't cloud up this album, honestly.

Interesting... Circuital is too lack luster for me.  I love the album, but just not as much as the rest of their catalogue.  It is missing something, and I would agree with the leftover song feeling of the album.

Does anyone know about the record store lithograph? On the record store day website it says Participating stores will have a special litho from the MMJ frontman's solo record, with limited edition access to a special download of exclusive tracks. Free with purchase, while supplies last.

The cheap price was a pleasant surprise .  3 listens in and I'm loving it.
