My one line review:
A great night with great people and great music, including great covers!

Here's my little vid from the night:

I got chills around the 2:15 mark when the balloons drop and you can hear the opening notes of OBH. I can't imagine how much fun that must've been!
Grey, there was a tenth grade guy there from Mufreesboro. His parents brought him to the shows and they stayed through New Years. Maybe someone for you to flail on the rail with when Whippy and mahg33ta aren't available.

Real life returned less that 24 hours after I said goodbye to some of the coolest, kindest people I've ever known.  Now, my students must suffer as  I keep playing Nuggets video from midnight in Boston!  What a fun time!

2012 was a great year for My Morning Jacket and their fans!

2013 might be the year of Jim James!

Thanks to all here on the forum and at the shows for making it a great 2012 for me.  From Forecastle to New Years, I saw some great music in some great venues.  As said so often, its all made better with awesome friends and friendly strangers grooving together.

Happy New Year and thanks for the memories.  Can't wait to keep making more...

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

First off, I would like to say how happy I am that I got to meet so many forum folks. What a great group of people I look forward to rocking out with again in the future. Everyone is so warm, passionate and welcoming. It was my first time meeting anyone on the forum so I didn't know what to expect. Thank you all for being so damn awesome!

I also randomly made friends with some forum folks who were on my flight back to Austin who I didn't meet during the show. It was great to just talk about the shared experience!

I am still riding the high of this show. Trying to be productive at work today is not working out so well. That first set just kicked my ass from start to finish regardless of the lack of deep tracks. It seemed they jammed out alot more than normal which was great. Every song was played like it was an encore and just kept getting harder and harder. I kept thinking with everysong, "This is my favorite moment of the show, how can they top this?" the Steam Engine of a show kept barreling on and everysong topped the previous.

The second set was just such an awesome dance party. Friends and strangers getting down. The most surreal moment for me was hearing the opening notes to One Big Holiday while admist a downfall of confetti and balloons. Seriously, one of the greatest feelings of my life. It was funny watching Jim read the lyrics to "Rock the Casbah". I don't know if anyone else noticed that? Did anyone on the forum get the poster he was using to read the lyrics?
Mona Lisa must'a had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles.

One last thought, my friend who flew out to Boston with me had never listened to My Morning Jacket before the show. The first thing he said to me after the show was, "Where are we flying next to go see them? I didn't understand half of the words, but it doesn't matter, It was just something about the way he sang. I have never felt so many different things from a rock show. I get it now Josh, I need to see them again"

That statement alone made the whole trip for me as I have converted a new follower!

Josh,

Yes, Sara from Sweden got the poster. I believe Scosby caught it, and being the guy he is, gave it to her. They also did this at MPP over the summer, and our very own Rob (GO4IT) snagged that poster. Complete with lyrics, and signed!!

Not sure if we met in PC or Boston, but glad you had a great time, and got to meet some of the greatest people a band could ask to have for fans.

I can't claim credit for this video... but this was the highlight of the evening for me. This cover was totally unexpected.

I had to shush a sparkly dressed woman in front of me during Wonderful.  She apologized profusely afterwards, introduced herself as Patrick's wife, and fed us a bunch of Miller HighLifes she was getting from back stage.  A welcome gesture, but you'd think they'd be drinking better beer back there!

The Champagne of Beers is very fitting for NYE.  Seriously, that's a great story

Yes Josh, Sara and I caught a poster with the Casbah lyrics....I believe the third went to one of Eric Mayers friends that were to the left of us. Mine is slightly torn from all the tussle but its still pretty cool considering its signed by the band as well

Did anyone recognize the guy that was holding the posters for Jim?/ he looked quite familiar but couldn't put me finger on it

So I know this isn't going to go over well but I thought the show was a C+ at best. The first half for me was really standard MMJ and just not exciting. The song selection and playing was just boring. I know they want to reach a wider audience but NYE is a night to go all out. Even PWW was boring and it is one of my favorite songs of the past 10 years. Compared to the Red Rocks versions this was like listening to PWW on At Dawn.

The only interesting moment for me was the Steam Engine. The show did pick up at Touch Me Pt1 through the end of the main set. I have nothing negative to say about this part of the show. I loved the Cobra>Run Thru and You Can Never Tell.

The encore portion was fun but not really exciting. I had seen all of the covers played live before with the exception of Hungry Hearts. I never need to hear them play All night long or Celebration again.

In many ways this show just felt like a rehash of the past year and brought nothing new. Compared to the MSG NYE it felt stale and like the band didn't want to try to take any risks. At 12/31/2008 the covers they chose felt specifically picked out for that night. They all had similar themes and played together extremely well. But this year it was just a bunch of random cover songs. Also compared to the Red Rocks shows which I think are 2 of he best shows the band has ever played I would say there was very little "spontaneous" about the show. In many ways the show for me represented everything that frustrated me about the 2011 tour with the highly repetitive setlists and standard playing.

I can actually agree, completely. Started out kinda boring, picked up in the last half the main set. OBH and the covers were fun, but seemed repetitive.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

It was Chris Funk from the Decemberists! I thought he looked really familiar too, and can't believe I didn't place him from four feet away, but then, he did have on a nutty outfit. Earlier on I had looked back, and saw this guy SITTING DOWN right in front of ms. yvon and wondered what the hell, and it turns out it was Mr. Funk himself!

I think I had my hand on that poster, the second I felt it rip, I let it go! Sorry Dylyn! :)

Eric gave the other poster to people who won upgraded seats and totally had an incredible night. Sara and I were talking about how they came in casual fans and are probably now fans for life

I just wanna send a big thanks to all the forum peeps that I met at NYE. Some of the kindest, nicest folks. The show was a nice fix for me since it had been awhile since I saw MMJ. I was hoping for some deeper cuts, but I knew that was what the Port Chester run was for. It was great seeing "Rock the Kasbah", the energy during "HOTBM" with PHJB was insane!, and the countdown from the front row looking back at the crowd was awesome!

I got my first MMJ show setlist ever, so I was pumped about that. All in all, Boston was a great way to share with fellow fans NYE.

Can't wait to see some of the board members again down the road!

Also a brief mention for seeing McLovin from SuperBad at the show!
