Sal Paradise

just cause it starts off slow babe, doesn't mean it don't have a heart.

people always told me. that bars are dark and lonely
and talk is often cheap and filled with air.

bang! bang! goes the night.
The sound in your mind is the first sound that you could sing

QuoteFrom AT DAWN....
try to walk this earth an honest man,
but eveil waves at me its ugly hand.
The radar watches me from above, shouting down:
"I hope you make it on this earth."

This was the lyric that got stuck in my head when I first started listening to the band! It hasn't been in my head for ages.  Nice to have it back.

Words.
the future is Ginger

Quoteso love dawg cant ye see that you only gotta dance with me.

That line is so great.  In fact, that whole song shuts my gob every time I hear it.

I, er...ah....what's that mean, exactly??  ;)
Runnin' from somethin' that isn't there

EC

If I'm talking, I don't talk anymore.  :)

QuoteIf I'm talking, I don't talk anymore.  :)

i kinda figured that, but hey...the dirty old man in me (read:  the devil made me do it) thought otherwise... :)

EC

Mmm, hmmm.....  (most people don't admit to having a dirty old man inside of them, jc...  it's creepy... :D)

Yep gob means "face", or alternately, "mouth".  Like, "Hey jerk, don't you smack my gob!", or "Shut yer gob!"

(I'm sure that greggy and/or dith and/or other island UKers will correct me if I've misused the terminology.)

SMc55

You've got it spot on EC  :)

JacketGal

Sorry to interrupt the lessons in colloquial English ;D but do 'Ahhhhhs' count as a lyric? More specifically in 'Hopefully', would the ahhhs count? If so, add them to my list!

;)
But seein you feels good, and its always understood.
That anything much sweeter would make me die.

SMc55

Oh yeah. Aaaahs definately count. imho anyway.

A few more:

"Oh,I'll never say I knew ya,but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side"

"On these lovely trips, the conducter likes your soft brown eyes on his hair"

"So to all you frowns go down town square and get some action, from the X-mas girl who lives inside your womb"

"Cause nights tick by like a long week except when you stop by"
The fact that my hearts beating
is all the proof you need

I can see many of us have trouble picking out just one for a fave here ;)
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

I'd say the end of Golden

"and you, you always told me
no matter how long it holds me
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires...
we'll be right here forever
go through this together
and on Heaven's golden shores we'll lay ours heads..."

that bit is awesome. there's a few lyrics that choke me up a wee bit we when I'm singin along, and Golden always does that.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

SMc55

Oh wow. I'd forgotten about that. You're right, fanatic, it's impossible to choose one.

otter

"But seeing you feels good
and it's always understood
that anything thing much sweeter
would make me die....Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

from Death is the Easy Way---that's mine right now

EC

I just quoted that bit to my roommate last night.  She was all, "Oooooh, really?  Oh my god, that's so great."

thebigbang

"it was always good to hear you say "you never were a
drawback, you always were an asset, you never were a drawback,
no you weren't."

-From Old September Blues

Can it get any sweeter than that? Especially the way Jim sings those lines.
