What does it mean by Split Series 3?

Are there three versions of Split?

And what does Songs: Ohia mean?

3.  And what does Songs: Ohia mean?

1.  i think it's the third in a series of EP's that were split between two bands.

2.  there are possibly quite a few more now.

3.  songs: ohia is the name of a band  (as to the band's name origins, i have no idea, but i'd bet somebody on here does.)  it's jason molina's territory, is that right?

edit:  here you go:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs:_Ohia

i love that picture of jason molina.  :)

Thanks, so all of their albums with (Songs Ohia) on them were recorded with another band?

what? no.  I don't know if this is what you are asking but:

MMJ has only done one split cd and it is the one with songs ohia.  Just know that that cd has 4 MMJ tracks and 1 songs ohia track.  Every other MMJ ep or cd is all MMJ.

ImagesAndSound

lol, this is still not making since.

So the Songs: Ohia track was not by my morning Jacket?

And if it is the only one like that, why does almost every My morning Jacket album have Songs: Ohia on it?

I think you're confusing yourself, I'll try my best to set you straight.

Songs: Ohia is a band.
My Morning Jacket a band.

They both are on the Split Series.  #3 happens to be their release, I'm not sure who's on #1, #2 or beyond #3, but MMJ are def. not.  There is only one version of the MMJ/Songs: Ohia split.

MMJ do 4 songs on the split, Songs: Ohia one.

Hopefully that helps.  It's really quite simple.  :)

And to clarify, the Split Series of EP's is more of a promotional thing. A record company putting out an EP that is (in theory) one band on side, and another on the other. Like producing an actual vinyl 45 in which one band has one actual side of vinyl, and the other band gets the other. They just "split" it and have two bands on one release.

A pretty novel idea.

This is the only collaboration MMJ has ever done with Songs: Ohia, and in the term collaboration, I don't mean that the bands actually worked together. MMJ wrote and recorded all their material as the actual MMJ, and Songs: Ohia did the same, so that it was just another release of both of these band's original material, with all of the bands' regular members. No more, no less. The only thing the two have in common with each other is the sharing of one medium with which to listen to both of them.

Sorry if this has all been terribly confusing. Did that help some, though?

But you guys still aren't answering my question.

If that is so, then why do so many My Morning Jacket albums have Songs: Ohia written on them?

Where do they say this? On ebay? If so, it's just people not paying attention and using that music selection thingy to list their cds...

The stores I usually shop at are f.y.e. and Best Buy. But maybe your right, it could just be something I saw on eBay and never really got out of my mind.
