a word about the terminal 5

Was there in the spring for Deer Tick/Dr. Dog, I liked it. Didn't feel like waiting in line to get up front, so we opted for the rail on the first balcony. Decent view and sound was alright, nothing awful or spectacular.

On a side note, I can't imagine someone letting the venue decide whether or not they'll see some truly unique, one of a kind shows. I'd see all 5 nights of this if they were playing on a trash barge.
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

Compared to a few places in Philly, T5 isn't all that bad!!

cmon i mean is there any question that any of us here arent going to be right up in front for all 5 of these shows?  Just get there early enough and we'll all be fine  8-)

I most likely will not. In my ripe old age of 27, I have learned that I often prefer to be in the peripheral, where I can easily access the bar and minimize the risk of that fat girl in doc martins kicking me in the head from behind when she thinks its a good idea to crowd surf during golden or the fratty douchebag starts a moshpit with all his brahs during Knot Comes Loose

The only time I have every been to T5 was years ago when I was 17 and it was then a club called Exit.  I should probably keep that information to myself though.  ;D

The place is huge.  The sound system was good then.  I don't know about now, but I'm sure everything will be ok!  ;)

if it was 5 nights playing live at best buy, a minor league ballpark or in an airplane hanger we would all still be there.  It's a small venue and they are playing a once in a lifetime 5 night stand of every album.  Just be ready to have a spectacular once-in-a-lifetime experience.  Is there anything in October that you are looking forward to more?

This is something all of us going to all 5 will remember and cherish forever!  The venue is not what matters.  It's the band.

Sorry, but the venue is anything but small.  That place used to fill thousands of people every weekend when it was a club.  Granted there are less spots to see the actual stage, but the old "dancefloor" was pretty big and there are two other levels that you'll be able to look down onto the stage from.

I don't care!  It's going to be magical!

i always heard how bad T5 was and then I went there for the 1st time earlier this summer to see LCD Soundsystem and I didn't understand the hate at all.  i had zero issues with sound which is the most important thing to me. imho T5 is 100 times the venue that the Electric Factory is.

I'd imagine by ISM night we'll have every inch of that place figured out.

No worries here.

QuoteI'd love to here some more input on the venue from folks who have gone before....especially to sold out shows there.  Certainly not trying to bring negativity into the shows, I'm fired up and cannot wait!  But after reading through several pages of reviews on yelp, gotta say I'm a bit nervous.  It's gonna be off the hook no matter what.  They could do this in empty warehouse and I'd be there.

Any locals have any insight on the best way to rock the venue?

1. Arrive a little early. Its worth 1-2 hours to stand in line with some like-minded Jacketeers to get a nice spot with good sight lines. If you're not really into the "against the stage" scene... check out the area behind the sound/light board on the 2nd level.

2. Don't worry. The sound is fine. I saw Dr Dog there and expected the worst, was quite impressed. The reviews are stupid.

3. Its MMJ.... of course its going to be great!

It doesn't look that bad. I read reviews on this place the other night and it was about 50/50 on the venue. I really don't care. I'll try to get their early and get as close as possible. It looks like only one side sits back more than the other. I'm just excited to see them play all these albums in a smaller place.

That pic really makes me wish this was at the Roseland, as I had first hoped when I heard about 5 shows in 5 nights. About the same size ticket wise, but Roseland is more spread out. A lot more room left to right, than T5's front to back setup.

I'm sure it'll still be epic, and we'll love every second, but if you want to be close to the stage, it's going to mean lining up early each night and cut in to our pre-show fun. ;)

3,000 is the listed capacity but they def squeeze more than that in.

it's not as bad as people are making it out to be. the bar and bathroom setup is much better than roseland.

the worst part is that the vip on second level takes up a ton of space and is almost always empty.
Is there a doctor in the house tonight?

I'm not trying to be a d*ck, but bar and bathroom setup aren't as important to me as sightlines, sound, and comfort level when I'm judging a venue.

While the bathroom setup at Roseland is a drag, I didn't find any problems with the bar. I could still see and hear fine.

LOL. That is what I was thinking. By the ISM night we will all have found our spots. Wish I could bring a flag in and stake my claim for all 5 evenings. Maybe just some duck tape on the floor with my name on it.  ;D
I am not worried at all. It is gonna be an epic run and all the MMJ fans I know are real cool. I have never been to Terminal 5 but I'm sure we will all make the best of it. I plan to have a few beers before the show but not during. Don't want to miss a thing!

This is the part concert anticipation I hate most -- the phase where I start to wonder about things out of my control, and resort to inane amounts of preparation to ensure my time is perfect. I'm surprised I haven't had nightmares about being caught in a stopped subway and missing the first side of At Dawn.

But this thread has enabled me to curb that attitude, and for that I am thankful. Five nights of MMJ (six if you count the Ramble) cannot go wrong-- ever. Can't wait!
