Title: Football Gambling
Post by: Murph on Sep 12, 2010, 05:22 PM
To all you degenerate gamblers on the board, like myself, lets here some picks.

Today I hit a 3 team parlay:

Dolphins -3
Titans -6
Lions +6.5

$25 paid $146

Im laying off the 4pm games and probably throwing 50 on the Cowgirls tonight

You mean the most obvious holding call of all time?   The one where my three year old threw his yellow blanket in the air right when it happened?  (OK, that last part didn't happen but still.)

It was the right call.  It helped that it won me a couple of bills in my weekly spread pick em pool. ;)
Nice job on the parlay Murph.   :)

Murph parlayed 4 plays.  He teased the line 13 points meaning he moved them in his favor.  It also significantly reduces your potential payout

Gotcha, thanks.

I havent gambled serious $$$ since the 07 Colts-Pats game, but Im really regretting not taking Bama -11.5 vs. Penn St a couple weeks ago. I know you dont bet against your team, but not only did I not think we'd have a shot, I was sure we'd lose by 20+ points. I even told my friend who went to Bama Id be happy with a 14 point loss. If they didnt lay off in the 2nd half, they would have beat us even worse than they did. I was seriously thinking bout putting $400 on them which is half my paycheck

basically a teaser should be a fairly safe bet, especially a 13 point teaser, but when your a mush like me there's no such thing as a safe bet.

That's a lot of pressure man.  I would hate to have my first bad week.  I actually haven't looked at the lines for this week yet.  I will try to post some picks by Sunday morning and see how I do.  Although I'm seeing J Roddy and Shooter Jennings on Sat so Sunday morning posting might be a challenge. ;D  Good luck this week Murph.  Big win for the Jets.

I agree.  Fishy indeed.  Gotta do it.  NE hasn't shown me anything against a Ravens team that is already diesel with an evolving passing game that finally decided to run last week with Mr. Rice.  I'll take the points.

I feel this is the game the Saints O blows up

I thought that 2 weeks ago against CAR and was proven wrong. Last week didnt make me any more confident. Maybe Bush is more important than anyone realized?!  :o ;D

They could turn it on against TB, Im guessing what Batch did vs them makes you more confident, but I think TB is actually a solid team, plus theyre at home. NO coming off a loss helps them youd think. That said, probably steering clear of that game

I agree with you about those lines.  However, Troy Smith looks good and they are at home.  At first glance, I would stay away from that game.

You have to like the Pack coming off of a bye with the quarterback situation in flux and Rice being out for another week.  Minnesota played them well in Green Bay though.  I like GB here more than TB in San Fran.

You guarantee the Jets will win?? I dunno. Colts on a 4 game win streak, Peyton threw at least 2TDs in each of those games (9TD/2INT) with a 100.3 passer rating. Sanchez was 1-3 his last 4 games, 1TD/5INT, with a 59.6 passer rating. LT hasnt broken 60yds rushing in a game since week 5 and only averaged over 4 YPC in 2 games since then. All those things make me like Indy but the biggest reason is that the game is in the big gas station.

I think Im goin to add GB +3 the more I think about it as well, for like 4 shares. GB hasnt lost a Rodgers started game by more than 3 all year, and I actually heard they havent trailed by more than a TD all season.

I got green blinders on but much of the public has Peyton ones on.  Jets played some tough D's down the stretch.  They are a better team than the one that almost pulled it out at Lucas Oil last year and the Colts are not.  I just have a good feeling that we'll be able to move the ball and create a TO or 2.

Pack +3 is a no brainer for me.  They are my NFC favorite.

I don't like the KC/Bmore game but I'll take the Ravens.  Chiefs may be a year away.

I read that all of the Seahawks' 9 losses have been by 13 points or more.  So if you think the Saints are gonna win, they'll likely cover the 11 too right? ;D

the Jets might be a better team than they were last year, but hard to say. The additions of Cromartie and Santonio would make me believe that, but they lost TJones who was more vital to them last yr than LT this year (although Greene carried them in the playoffs). I had to actually look up Sanchez's stats this year to see if he really got better. He clearly did stats wise, but half his TDs came in September when he had his 3 best games of the year based on passer rating. They might be better on paper this year, but I think they were playing better going into Indy last year coming off 2 playoff wins.

The Colts clearly arent as good as they were last year, but theyre playing better than the Jets going into this game.

1 thing I am pretty sure of, is that this will be the best game of this weekend. It wouldnt surprise me if the other 3 games are decided by double digits (Saints, Pack, Ravens wins).

INDy -2.5 (3 shares)
BAL -1 (7 shares)

Id still take BAL at -3 which is where its at now

Im really tempted to take SEA +11 but I dont think I'll pull the trigger.

Didnt pick the Seattle game, but went with GB +3 for 6 shares....+10 shares for the weekend, I'll take it

An up and down weekend for me and I finished where I started.  Kinda wish I had just thrown it all on the Pack which was my pick of the week.

Pitt -3 and Pats -8.5

My heart and my wallet tell me two different things.  I may have to take the Ravens straight up but concede the Pats on this line so that I win either way.

Steelers opened up at -3.5. Early money on Baltimore takes it down to -3 most places right now, so I'd wait and see if it goes down to -2.5 and then take it.

GB started as +1 and Ive seen it as high as +2.5 right now. I'll wait until that goes up to +3 hopefully and take GB there. I think GB's D is outplaying ATL's right now (and is probably better to begin with), so I gotta stick with them despite Ryan's great home record.

CHI -10 really intrigues me and really all depends on the Bears D stepping up. I have no doubts CHI will put up around 30pts or more. With that logic, theyd have to hold SEA to under 20, which Id say there is a decent chance of. Teams .500 or better scored more than 33 points on Seattle 6 out of 7 times now that I look it up, but the 1 team that didnt was the Bears who actually lose to Seattle that game 23-20...Didnt know that, hmm...Cutler and the offense definitely looked better since their bye though.

I have no idea on the NYJ-NE game. I could see the Jets playing a little better but getting stomped again as possible as Pats winning by like 10-14pts as possible as the Jets D stepping up, the running game controlling the clock, and Sanchez being efficient and limiting turnovers and keeping this game within 3-7pts or maybe a Jets win...That seems like a lot has to go right and change for the Jets this game for them to cover the +9 though. I'll probably stay away from this game.

Nice!  My friend is in Vegas this week for a sales meeting and I'm having him put money on a Ravens Falcons parlay.   I actually couldn't decide between the Falcons and Packers but decided to go with the Falcons.  Now you've made me even more nervous.  I actually wanted to parlay the favorites on Sunday but he won't be there to collect.   I'm predicting Sunday blow outs that are no fun to watch.

Us vs Ravens might as well be a pick em. I guess 1 way of thinking about it is that Flacco/Ravens are due, but Roethlisberger has beaten them 6 times in a row. Knock on wood.

Good luck to ya!  The Packers were my preseason pick to win it all and I'm sticking with them.  Now that they actually have a running game again they are quite the balanced team and well Aaron Rodgers is da man.  Just not sold on the Falcons but they are home.

Jets will win on Sunday BH.

Starks having *1* 100 yard game constitutes a running game?  ::)

I went with

BAL +3.5 (5 shares) ...In the best of both worlds, we win by 3
GB +3 (4 shares)
NE -8 (3 shares)
NE/NYJ OVER 44 (3 shares)

A little nervous about that last one, but 7 out of 10 of NE's last 10 have hit over 44, and the other 3 didnt only because they held their opponent to 7 or less points..I expect the Jets to score 17-20 in this one. Also scared about Jets grinding out the clock by running making the under more possible, but I think NE will get a big enough lead early where the Jets have to start to pass

The game last week has nothing to do with it.  I watch film buddy.  Mel Kiper had been hyping Starks before the draft and had him in the 2nd round on his board.  He was back on the radio reiterating that this week.  Do I think Starks is great?  No.  Can I tell that he is easily better than Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn?  Yes.  You can look at the numbers from last week but you'll be crying when I snag Starks in the 3rd round next year in fantasy while you are taking Clinton Portis and LT again. ;D

Of course I'll give you my pick o' the week 8)  I did miss the Ravens' game straight up but overall it was a good week.  Was up a little after Saturday so made a play on the Bears at -9.5 after buying an extra half point.  Turned out it didn't matter but it would have if the Seahawks had gone for two late.  I turned around and put all the winnings from the Bears game on the Jets straight up.  Well that paid 4:1 and now sitting pretty.

I don't like either of these games too much.  Right now my two favorite plays are the Jets straight up or +3 (whichever) and I think I like the under on Packers/Bears.

Good luck!
Title: Re: Football Gambling
Post by: Ruckus on Jan 23, 2011, 10:04 AM
I'm hamstrung this week because I don't want to bet against the Bears and the over/under just moved even lower.  I liked the under when it started at 43.5ish and now it's down to 42.5.  I still might like the under but staying away.

Should just take the points for the Jets now that it's at 4 but I'm taking them straight up as my only play of the week.  I just didn't want any conflicts of interest today.

The shares all depend on how much money you have/are gambling, and goes with my confidence in a pick...Say you value a share as $20, for my picks this week that means put $120 on GB and $60 on Pittsburgh.

I liked both picks since monday anyway, but we have a live stream on all the odds on the site of what they are at at a bunch of different gambling sites..It says SBGGlobal and BookMaker both still have GB at -3, and SBGGlobal also still has Pittsburgh at -3 so there are various sites where you can get those spreads today.

I don't like the line on this game but I like the Packers straight up.  If I'm gonna make a play on the game, it would be under 45.

BUT, I don't really care because I'll be prop betting the hell out of this game.

I figure I'll make at least 20 to 30 bets for the game.  I think my favorite one so far is:

Will a Steelers Player Do the Aaron Rodgers Championship Belt Celebration During the Game (Must Clearly Appear on TV during the Game/Live pictures only/Any Taped Pictures or Past Video Does Not Count Towards Wager)?

Also:  Over/under 2.5 -  How Many Times will FOX Mention Brett Favre on TV during the Game (Live commentary only Any Taped or Past Video does not count towards wager/Must say Brett Favre exactly)

I agree on the under

Yes on Rodgers champ belt, Id assume after a sack, but possibly a big hit on him if he runs

I would go over on the Favre thing, but if it has to be "Brett Favre" and just "Favre" doesnt count, the under is much more possible.

Nice job Murph!  I had the best start to a season yet.  Made only one big money play which was the Ravens but also took down a weekly spread pick 'em pool.  Hit on 12 of 16.  Also have a pick three pool and took the Ravens, Texans, and Skins.  To top it all off, I won a tasty six pack of my choice for taking Djokovic over Nadal. 8)

I always found week 1 easy and then week 2 to be a nightmare.  Shall see.

Can't beat finishing the season ahead right?  That's all you can ask for.  So I just checked the Delaware park website.  You can't bet single games on the spread?  No over/under.  It's just parlays?  Is that correct?
Title: Re: Football Gambling
Post by: Jane on Jan 23, 2012, 11:09 AM
yeah just parlays with a minimum of 3 picks. i started by beting their 1/2 spread but they also offer teaser spreads and super teaser spreads. i stopped betting the 1/2 point spreads becuase they were just too tough to cover. i won a bunch on the super teaser. a couple of times i picked 10 games and covered all the spreads.

since there werent many games to pick you were able to pick probowl and superbowl with the spread -4 nfc and +4 afc for both of those games.

i work with two guys that live about 10 mins away from the park so they put my bets in for me every week.

Alright!  BH reminded me of this thread.  Per usual, week one was a success and is invariably followed by week 2 failure as Vegas makes their adjustments.  Hit on all three last week with the Pats, Cardinals, and Bucs and have zero confidence this week.

So:

Indy +1.5
New Orleans -2.5
Baltimore +2.5

The Browns are only getting a 1/2 point in Cincy???  I know the Ravens made the Bengals look like the Bungals, but Cleveland couldn't beat the Eagles at home despite Mike Vick's best efforts to hand them the game?!  Not to mention that Joe Haden is yet another defensive starter that will be missing from the game.  I'd take Cincy to cover that spread easy...

I stick to strictly teasers or money line parlays first few weeks.

G-Men -1
Pats -7 1/2
Bengals -1/2
Texans -1

The Browns are only getting a 1/2 point in Cincy???  I know the Ravens made the Bengals look like the Bungals, but Cleveland couldn't beat the Eagles at home despite Mike Vick's best efforts to hand them the game?!  Not to mention that Joe Haden is yet another defensive starter that will be missing from the game.  I'd take Cincy to cover that spread easy...

No no, these spreads are with the teaser I took which allows you to add or subtract 6 points from each spread.  So the Browns were really getting 6 1/2 points, G-Men were giving 7, Pats were giving 13 1/2, Texans were giving 7.  Payout is alot less, but obviously it's much easier to hit

Changed my picks.  Going with

Houston -7.5
Baltimore +2.5
St. Louis +2.5

Good luck Murph

Thanks man.  Can't complain with a 6-0 start   As a Jets fan I'll take it as well although I had the Pats in one of my Eliminators.  People have been sleeping on this Cards team man and that's why I loved the first week play on them.  Great D and team that is finding ways to win.  Looks like the NFC West is finally turning the tables on the rest of the league.

Ha!   Just noticed there are only 4 undefeated teams in the NFC (maybe 3 after tonight) and two of them are NFC West team.    Bizarro world.    Rams are definately going to be more entertaining this year, that's for sure.

All great things must come to an end right?  I'll take it.  That Green Bay game still haunts me.  Sorry about the Cards.  That game had me scared from the beginning.  Miami is a much better team than the talking heads give them credit for...I think.  I've exhausted all my Texans' capital I believe.  Not gonna mess with tonight's game but I'll be rooting for the Bears.

Hey Murph.  I was in a spread pick'em pool with a hundred people and was leading wire to wire until I choked in the final week to finish in a tie for first.  That seattle/green bay game ended up costing me outright first.  We skipped one week because of Sandy but finished the season 33/48.  My second best season ever.

Any feelings about the playoffs.  I'm not playing these games but in order by confidence level I like:

Texans-4
Ravens-6.5
Packers-8
Skins+3

What a travesty that Seattle/GB game ended up being huh?  Im not confident in a single pick I made, but i took:

Bengals +4.5
Ravens -7
Packers -7.5
Skins +3

Should be a great first weekend of playoff football though, im super pumped considering the Jets and Giants are nowhere to be found

That Texans game had me worried.  They completely dominated the Bengals and nearly didn't cover.  The pick 6 and Houston's inability to get TDs instead of FGs almost were costly. Thankfully Dalton missed Green open deep over and over again.

For the GB/Minn game, I wonder if the line moved big time at the last second.  I had no idea Ponder was going to be inactive until game time.  Why they didn't just run basic option sets with Webb and Peterson is beyond me.  It was the only thing that worked.  Watching Webb throw was like watching Sanchez.

I know man, the Bengals should have lost that game by 3 TDs.  They got beat in every facet and had the ball about half the time the Texans did.  I was fairly sure the Packers would win and having Ponder ruled out at game time didn't help, but damn.  They couldn't do anything which was disappointing, I would have loved another shoot out.  Oh we'll, shitty end to an amazing year from AP.  This WAS/SEA game is shaping up to be the best of the weekend.  Ya gotta love home dogs!!

I like the Ravens and Packers, but I really think this is the year Matty Ice and the Falcons prove they aren't chumps in the playoffs.  I like them at home of course also.  I'll be rooting for the Texans, but I dont see it happening.  I got the Pats by two scores.

Title: Re: Football Gambling
Post by: Ruckus on Sep 08, 2013, 11:10 AM
You, me, and everyone else Murph.  That line has moved to 4 on most boards and that's a huge full point for a season opening team to gain.  This season likely remind me of my time living in NY from 88-96 when we'd maybe watch the Jets for the first quarter or half and then go do something outside after they went down 3tds.

I've started the college season 4-0 after getting Michigan -5 and BYU +8 last night.  Unfortunately I thought Baltimore +9 was a lock.  Oops.

As I've mentioned a couple of times in this thread, I've had some of my best weeks on opening day but I'm not confident this week.

If you got the Bucs at -3, I think that's solid.  I also like the Dolphins to go into Cleveland and pull out a close one.  Going against the grain, I like Carolina +3.5 at home and the Bears -3 at home against the Bengals.  Cowboys -3.5 I like as well.

Good luck Murph.

The Jets are so enticing tomorrow with the 11 points.  Coming off a game in which they played better than anyone expected, the Pats played worse than anyone expected, and now no Vereen or Amendola?!  I still wont bet them though so when they inevitably end up losing by 30 it won't hurt double

My book had it at +13.  Maybe it dropped with Vereen on top of Amendola?  Best question is who does the short week hurt the most.  I'm gonna say Geno.  If I was playing this, and I may, I'd take the Pats if it's less than two TDs.

Go Jets!

I got a free deposit last year, but I never used it for some reason and then did in the playoffs because I wasnt sure if I had to use it before the season ended or Id lose it. What I played were 50/50 leagues, meaning half of the entries win, so in the ones I did 25 of 50 people win. Playoffs probably not the best time to do that type of format I think because of less players and many studs = easier to win for casual fans/gamblers, but I think in the regular season if you know the NFL/fantasy football it could be easy money.

I didnt play last week but Im going to do a few this week and see how it goes. I wont continue dumping money into if Im losing, but if Im successful over the next few weeks, I definitely be playing it a lot for the whole season.

I'm looking to bounce back after a subpar Sunday last week.

I think I like the Bears, Cowboys, Packers, and Bills early.

What's up Pones?!  Nice to see a new degenerate in here

I took Clemson +3 at home.  I typically don't put much stock in experience but all things equal, I like Boyd at home getting points.

Also like UCLA +5.5 at Stanford.  The Cardinal were my favorite to make the title game this year and they haven't looked all that great unlike Oregon.  I don't know if they can just flip the switch and I'm starting to believe UCLA is for real.  Should be a good one.

That's all I took but I'm sure I'll make some game time plays on A&M and Oregon games.

It's pretty slim pickings at this point for me. The only "elite" team I haven't picked yet is the Panthers.  I can't pick against my Jets though, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Eagles in Minnesota. Hate picking road teams, but without AP I'm pretty confident.  Knock on wood....
