Are they going to have special guests like a Pearl Jamaroo or is it going to be like Phish event?
It's when I hear news like this that I really wished I lived closer.
From the few hints that have been dropped I get the idea that there are other bands involved. One rumor I read said Tom Petty and Neil Young.
Also the location is supposedly "in the middle of the country", according to PJ's manager.
I'd guess the side projects would be involved as well.
I don't have any inside info on this, but I have a funny feeling about Alpine Valley.

Ed solo set, Brad maybe, just because of how recently they've been active...maybe one of McCready's too, Flight to Mars maybe? Eh, it's probably equally likely none of the side projects will play...I'd wager even they don't know yet.
Totally curious to see what they do with this thing.
cant wait for this! yea, all the talk around the campfire is about alpine valley.

Alpine Valley would AWESOME !!!! I love that place. I'd much rather go there than Tinley Park if I had a choice. I REALLY miss Poplar Creek which is where the sears center center sits now. It was only about 10 minutes from my house. We need another outdoor venue in the burbs.
Where is Alpine Valley?

Where is Alpine Valley?
Wisconsin, not too far up from Chicago. Been there several times, if you're in the lawn you might as well be sitting back in Chicago. It's a great spot, as long as you're in the pavilion.
They just approved onsite camping, which doesn't necessarily mean anything...but it would be nice.
http://gazettextra.com/news/2010/dec/09/board-oks-alpine-valley-camping-plan/ (http://gazettextra.com/news/2010/dec/09/board-oks-alpine-valley-camping-plan/)
Shaw said the camps would be for fans who wanted to see multiple performances of an entertainer doing weekend shows.
for shows at alpine valley, I would strongly encourage you to look into vacation rentals on one of the smaller lakes nearby. There are only a couple hotels within a reasonable drive, but a ton of awesome houses available on vrbo or similar sites (for cheap). We rented this house for phish in 09, it was literally one exit down the road from the venue, about a 10 minute drive tops, and with a few friends, was cheaper than a hotel. And it came with a pontoon party boat that we may or may not have been allowed to use. ;)

I don't know much about PJ, but Alpine makes a good venue for huge shows like that. Although...when I think 'destination' concert, I'm not exactly thinking Wisconsin. Hawaii?
Kelly Curtis said it would be "somewhere in the middle of the country" - that's the only reason I'm thinking Alpine.
Otherwise yeah, I'd go back to Hawaii ;D

Branson, MO!
I just busted out laughing...actual LOL at the desk here ;D ;D ;D
How about Vermont? Highgate VT was an awesome Dead venue back in the 90s. But I think both there and Alpine are too far North to be "middle" of the country...idk.

I am so excited at the prospect...I hope they announce location/dates sometime soon. My step daughter's wedding is in July and I need to know soon if she is going to have to change her date. ;)
If a side project band will be playing - my vote is for Brad.
Brad opened up for BoH recently and I thought they were so terrible.
edit: by they I mean Brad, but BoH sucked live too.
I wasn't super impressed with Brad when I saw them last fall - but dang, you thought BoH sucked live?
Gonna have to decide if we come over for this or the 25th anniversary Bridge Benefit. Bridge is slightly ahead, but I guess location and line up will be the deciding factor. If Neil or MMJ or both play then I would say that would push PJ20 over the line.
Its a high-class problem to have I guess!!
Last time I seen PJ in Chicago Ed said they did all they could to book those two shows at alpine valley. It would make since to see them play a few nights up there.
Will try to make it if it's anywhere near Chicago, Indy, or St.Lou.
A tad bit more information...

Around the time that Crowe's movie opens in late summer, Pearl Jam are planning a massive "weekend bash," as Curtis calls it, somewhere in the middle of the country. Details are still being worked out, but it will probably be a two-day event involving multiple bands and Pearl Jam headlining both nights. "We've played enough festivals that we know what makes them exciting," says Ament. "We want to give people places to go that aren't necessarily musical – second stages and all that kind of stuff. We're asking our friends if they want to play a couple of shows with us."
The group plans special sets at the festival, but don't expect to hear any of their classic albums performed straight through. "We talk about that stuff," says Ament. "For me, personally, it starts to become a little bit of a nostalgia thing. I remember we once did Ten start to finish and it didn't work very well because it was kind of a little bit too down...I think we did a good enough job of mixing up the sets every night that we give people a taste of every record."
I want this to be officially announced. Im trying to hold off on Waka and Roo tickets til I know about this so I know how much and if its close enough to make it out to.
other bands playing at this, huh? Is it too much to dream for MMJ ?!?!?!?

I think its totally plausible. I mean how many bands are in the bonus features of PJ dvds?! To see a 2 day PJ extravaganza featuring the only band I like more PJ would be amazing.
I was talking to a friend about this this morning...seems like they could go a couple different ways with this. Either do a straight up grunge/nostalgia fest and get Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney...maybe a Temple of the Dog reunion, or a Mother Love Bone tribute with different singers subbing in. Orrrrrr they could try to be a little more current/relevant and go with the bands they've had open for them recently - Band of Horses, MMJ, Kings of Leon, Sleater-Kinney...
Who knows, who knows!

I think it would most likely be newer bands and friends they've made who would play.
Though if Soundgarden did I might explode. :o
Looking forward to hearing who else will be playing & where & when this event will be taking place :-X. I need my PJ fix 8).
The Strokes are another possibility. Julian worships Eddie.
I just hope they reveal plans pretty soon, while there's time to plan around it.
Word. I need details so I can block the dates. Hoping for MMJ and Alice in Chains. Not sure how I feel about Soundgarden or Temple of the Dog. Chris Cornell came out during the L.A III show in 2009 and did Hunger Strike with the band. It was not good. Well, Ed and the band sounded great. Chris, not so much.

Really? Were you there? I was, and I thought Chris sounded fantastic. Then I got the bootleg and thought he sounded not so good. Maybe I wasn't the best judge at the show because I was going apeshit that they (1) brought out Chris Cornell and (2) were playing HUNGER STRIKE! And then McCready passes his guitar to Jerry Cantrell for the Alive solo!?! I had to pick up my face on the way out.
Did you all know that the PJ20 documentary is being made by Cameron Crowe? Bad Ass.

Oh yeah, I was there. I lost it when they played All Those Yesterdays. Never thought I'd hear that one live. As great as the night before was, I thought this show was better. The band was definitely on that night.

I'm hearing sometime early September during the film festival in Toronto when PJ is touring there. I already have plans to be there. And I already have a hotel booked for the PJ 20 shows at Alpine Valley :D Labor Day weekend, announcement comes Monday ;).
The 10 Club tweeted yesterday. See below. Obviously Alpine Valley followed by a Canadian Tour. Can't wait for the Monday announcement. Latest rumors don't seem to include MMJ, but there haven't been MMJ shows announced over Labor Day weekend, so who knows?
Tweet (gasp) Tweet
The little birdie fluttered and landed with great force on our picnic blanket.
"Where have you been and what's with the backpack?" we inquired.
"I've been so busy making plans, trying to get everything ready for a special weekend. And do you know how hard it is to fly with a pack on my back?" the birdie said.
"Ah...a special destination weekend perhaps?" we said.
The little birdie exclaimed, "Well, of course! Have you been living in a valley? Just make sure your memberships are up to date by midnight Sunday (Pacific Time) or you'll be sorry."
"Ok, little birdie, thank you for the heads-up. We appreciate it. Where are you going next, birdie?" we said.
"To the great white North!"

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! :D
I know I'll never get the chance to go to this weekend thing but I can't wait to see where they're playing and who will be on the bill of course.
It's an 18 hour drive from where I live (Boston area). With 4 people in a car, that's 4.5 hours of driving for each person. We would leave at noon and arrive (providing for pit stops) at 7 or 8am. I'm cool with that.
I am getting very excited! I sure hope there is a canadian tour as I have very fond memories of the 2005 tour. ;D
I won't sleep until i see the official details.

I am not so sure it is that overpriced really. I mean, the total ticket price is $334 per pair which is $167 a ticket for two days of Pearl Jam. When I saw them last year in Indy, it was about $70 a ticket. So for two days at that price is $140 and you throw in other bands such as The Strokes and Queens of the Stone Age and its it really not that bad. Don't get me wrong, I would like it if it were cheaper and/or had MMJ and/or Band of Horses added to that set of bands but at this point, it's reasonably priced at best. The biggest challenge I am going to have is 1) getting tickets and 2) figuring out where I am going to stay. Either way, I can't wait cause its going to be an awesome time.
Damn, too far!

well 4 tickets total is pretty good, but i dont think i'll need more than 2 since my brother is also buying 2. this is going to be a great end to summer.

No, it is not easy to use. The actual steps to purchase isn't all that difficutl but there are so many people that try to access the site all at once that it overloads the server. It is a complete pain to finally get access to the payment screens and many times it will kick you out because it crashes. I honestly do think it will sell out for Ten Club in about an hour. I could easily be wrong though (and in which case I hope I am for your sake). If someone your traveling with has maybe an iPhone or Andriod then perhaps you can use that to purchase tickets.
May 31st will be a very good day. Have you not listened to either leaked EV or MMJ albums? I have them on preorder and my friend had sent me the link to download it and I couldnt resist. Very good stuff. Can't wait to see MMJ at the Palace again although unfortunately because TicketBastard screawed up, I am sitting in the balcony this time. You of course luck out tremendously! An hour and a half drive from Chicago, as I recall, yeah? 18 hours of driving does seem crazy when I read it back, but the road trip is part of the fun, so, yeah, it's only a little crazy. I can't say that I am 100% definitely going to be there... I won't be able to buy a pair of tickets next week, and I don't know anyone else who can buy a pair and reserve a ticket for me, so it looks like I will be ticket hunting later this summer. I'm not worried about it. All of my previous ticket hunting expeditions have been successful... if I REALLY want to see a show, I find a way... although I hate that won't be able to take advantage of the Ten Club deal where you get a reserved seat one night. Would be nice to get both the lawn experience and the seat experience, but maybe I can work that out. Whatever... we're all going mainly for the Pearl Jam nerdfest anyway. The music is just the icing on the cake - not that I'd have cake without icing. I think I'm the only one who's psyched to see Mudhoney.
You are definitely NOT the only one psyched to see Mudhoney! They're the band I want to see most on that lineup. So glad you're coming! And yeah, Alpine isn't far at all - more like 2-3 hours from Chicago depending on traffic. I grew up about 15 minutes from the venue, so I'll be visiting Mom and Dad that weekend ;D
I'm not too worried about tickets either...you and I know enough PJ folk that an extra is never hard to come by. ;)
e_wind, if you just want lawn seats, why don't you just try in the public onsale on June 4? Ticketmaster is a hell of a lot easier to deal with than the 10c server.

63 a day? I thought they were 252$....
edit: oh shit, 252 for a PAIR. NICE... can 10 club members purchase multiple pairs, I've never done this.
Your only limited to two pairs of weekend tickets for the ten club.
Is that true? I would have thought it would be one pair per member, like it always is.
Oh wait. You mean one pair of tickets for each night of the fest, right?

Yes. Sorry about the wording of that. In otherwords, you get a pair of ten club tickets each night, one for yourself and one for who ever you bring.

did everyone see this yet? How awesome is that stage dive at 0:36?
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
why didn't i buy tickets to this
pj20 that is, not the DVD
Man oh man oh man oh man oh man.....
One of my best friend's boyfriend has a brother who won a pair of tickets from a radio trivia question that he answered about PJ... and he's taking my friend's boyfriend!!!
He definitely deserves it (they both do, thankfully) They've been fans for ages, and his bro even knew whatever random trivia they threw, so it's all good. Just wish I was going to this too, of course!
Not sure what the question was that he guessed correctly, I'll have to ask her bf next time I see them.
I'm super stoked for you guys that are going though!!! GHAAAAA!!! :D :D :D
So who all on this board are going to this? I managed to score a hookup for these and hotel up in the Milly Wah Kay. Hate to admit I'm not the biggest PJ fan but am nonetheless looking forward to it. Well that and the 1st row, Cubs dugout seats for Friday at Wrigley. :D

Damn thats awesome.
I honestly feel like the whole organization concept of this festival is very offputting. Hotels an hour away and bussing in is a turn off. The same bands playing both nights is a turn off. If I was going it would basically be two REALLY expensive and high maintance pearl jam shows. None the less, I wish I wouldve bought tickets. I'm sure I could buy some, but at this point finding a hotel, buying tickets taht aren't through the 10 club, etc, not sure how worth it would be. I basically chose to see Jacket 5 times in august instead. and couldnt afford to pay for PJ20 and red rocks trip all in the same couple weeks
I love Eddie and company, and hope everyone going has an AWESOME time.

Thanks. That was great- gave me goosebumps. Awesome stage dive for sure- I like the 2 person jump around 1:40 too. Just so cool.
e_wind I think your August Jacket trip was the right call. But damn I'm with you, easy to have a twinge of regret. Can't do everything, I keep telling myself (actually it's my wife telling me). If MMJ were there, on the other hand---
I'll go see the movie for sure.

I've been following PJ for about 20 years and never thought I'd like a band as much as them. But MMJ's greatness has been on that same rediculous level for me for the past few years.
Ruckus.... hope to see you at MPP and/or Wisconsin. I still owe you a drink from the Charlottesville show.
Just got home to my songbook, DVD, and cd! woo

PJ 20 & the MMJ Red Rocks show, see you all there :D.
after two listens of the EV album:
I love Eds voice in mellower songs, so I think it sounds amazing through out this record. I, however, can't quite understand why he did an entire album with an instrument thats not very versatile, sounds like one long song to me. Its pretty though.

I guess to be different is why he choose the uke. Its an instrument that has pretty limited capabilities since it is only a four string instrument. Either way, as you said, its a pretty album all the same. DVD is pretty good stuff.

;D Hello All! I am a newbie here, and my first post is to say that YES! I'm going to this aweome fest. Huge Queens & PJ fan...never seen the Strokes... We are driving from Pittsburgh & camping at Bark River ($10 a day plus a shuttle for $70 both nights that allows you to bring a cooler, no DUI's!!)
PS, MMJ killed it in the burgh 2 nights ago. It was so good that I missed work the next day.
Welcome Miss X! See you in a few weeks!
So besides the big name name acts that I'm not overly enamored with, what are some of the smaller acts that are recommended live viewing?

I've seen Liam Finn twice and really enjoyed him.
I recommend Drinking Bourbon With Alady In The Lot, they are spectacular live.

Last time I saw them live, the after party devolved into a bad episode of taxicab confessions.
Edit: That was fun and I want to see them again. Must find time to go shopping before I leave.
A Kafkaesque episode of Taxicab Confessions where it's the the same hellish story again and again.... ;)
On the reals, I have some interest in seeing John Doe, Jason Lytle, Joseph Arthur and Glen Hansard, but I don't think any of them will get me in the Land of $13 Beers and No Reentry early enough.
Just saw the setlists.

Good question...I asked myself that after the first day. I was already strongly considering it and was kicking myself after day 1. That clinched it so I made the 6 hour drive yesterday. Incredible!!! doesn't begin to describe it.
