Question for anyone out there about warped vinyl. At this time I have no turntable to play my green vinyl, or my other 500 records. My greenies look OK, but my question is, do you have to play them to see or hear the warp, or is it detectable by just holding and looking?

thanks.  I'm wondering the exact same thing.  Trying to find someone local with ability to test for me.   Figured if I have a bad one, better figure it out now, not 3 years from now when I finally get a turntable.

If you lay the vinyl out on a flat surface (ie, table top), it should be pretty easy to tell if it is warped.  If it looks relatively flat, you are probably good.  If one side seems to have a little 1/2 inch curve upward and does not appear to be flat, there's your warp.

That is the only other way to tell.

Well, there is clearly not a half inch warp. You don't need to lay it down for one that big. It appears to be OK. Now to find a decent turntable without spending $500.

Progress is being made, I got the following email from a topspin rep today:

Quote
Hey Chris ~ I'm so sorry to hear that your package arrived damaged. Bandmerch, who shipped the merchandise for My Morning Jacket, indicated they would ship out replacements for the Vinyl.
As soon as there is a projected ship date for the replacements, they will send an email to let you know when the packages ship. If you have additional questions, please contact Bandmerch directly: http://customerservice.bandmerch.com (http://customerservice.bandmerch.com)
Kind regards,
Barbara

So that's good, but I haven't heard from bandmerch since I sent them an email on the 8th.

Well, I got an email from bandmerch asking which of my orders had the faulty vinyl because I ordered both the limited edition box and the standard vinyl.  I actually haven't opened my standard package so I just told them the green for now and had to send them my order number.

I guess that is some progress.

Dear Discerning Vinyl Consumer,

As you are no doubt already aware, the manufacture and distribution of high-quality phonograph records is a highly-nuanced and sometimes tricky business that is subject to any number of vicissitudes as the finely grooved discs travel along the path from their origin to you, the listener.

It has come to our attention that an unfortunately high percentage of folks who purchased the "Deluxe Box" edition of My Morning Jacket's Circuital discovered a most unfortunate condition of warpage on one or both of their green 12" LPs. That is why, in order to guarantee maximum value and listening pleasure, new pairs of brand-new, warp-free green LPs are being mailed out to all purchasers of the "Deluxe Box" free of charge. So watch your mailbox. And hold on to your gatefold sleeves and jackets, folks, you'll be needing those for your new discs.

We offer our sincerest apologies for this unfortunate circumstance, and we thank all of our partners in manufacturing and distribution for working hard to help us correct the situation. They all remain committed to delivering top-notch goods and we're glad for that.

We thank you for your patience and for giving us a chance to make things right. And enjoy the green LPs, we think they sound fantastic.

Sincerely,

ATO Records

That's cool, but mine came 100% fine and not warped. So I guess I'll just have a spare pair, or maybe I'll give them to someone else.

No I have the regular, and it is severely warped. I notified the company and received that first email saying they were gonna fix the problem and that I'd be notified when they'd be sending them out. Now the deluxe people have received a followup I'm wondering if anyone that had a warped regular copy has received such an email.

I've been jamming the shit out of my green vinyl, and they are sending me some new ones?!  I could only imagine this from the greatest band ever.  I've never sold anything this band has produced and this will be no diffrent, I'll run my current two green vinyls into the ground and then be thrilled that I have two more to take their place.   Although I have to admit I bought my Boston Pops tickets with the promise to my wife that if we couldn't go we could sell them for twice the value on e-bay.  We couldn't go......and we ate the ticket price on two tickets.  She doesn't belive ANYTHING I say now.  :-\

I tried to tell her I was ahead of my time.....but she just thinks I'm dumb.

yet another reason this is the best rock 'n roll band on the planet.  thanks to everyone who cared enough to make this happen.

and i now have 2 slightly warped green discs that i no longer need.  anybody who wants them can come get them.   i'm in PRP (if you don't know what PRP is, you live too far away).    pm me if interested.

So that's that I guess.

Yeah, it is unfortunate that they have failed on multiple levels while sorting this fiasco out.  I understand why they sent out new ones to everyone but it's a shame that many who had perfectly fine originals now have already received their 2nd ones while we with severely warped 1st ones have yet to receive new ones.  I just wish the communication was better.

Wow, this is surprising, not just the failure to replace every copy that went out, but the complete lack of communication, which dismayed me from the beginning. I'm lucky enough to have gotten my replacements, but I was surprised with the lack, or inconsistency of messages indicating that the problem was known and would be resolved. I can understand the need to handle it not on an individual basis, but seems to me that would make it possible to keep everyone well-informed.

Hope you guys get some satisfaction soon.

Just keep hasslin' them. It worked for me. I hadn't received my replacement records as of two weeks ago, so I just kept e-mailing every address I could find for BandMerch customer service. Eventually someone got back to me and within 48 hours I was kickin' back and having a wonderfully warp-free Circuital listening experience.

Man, I can't believe that took so long!

I just ordered a black copy because I'm still not happy with the green vinyl. It's not warped, just sounds like it's been played 500 times on a shitty stylus. I brought that up in other threads looking for some input but no reply! Have heard three copies now.

Let me know how that sounds will you? Thanks.

Hey Search!  How are ya?  I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I have a very pedestrian vinyl setup but I do agree with you on the sound of the green vinyl relative to what I'm used to new on that system.  I was able to listen to the original but I quit because it looked like it was putting so much strain on my stylus.

I actually have the black vinyl sealed as well and am trying to avoid opening it but I just may.  I'll go ahead and spin this new green and see how I feel.  Might want to ask some fellow audiophiles here that may be able to give you a better answer.

I'm talking to you HEADHUNTER!

Well finally listened to the black vinyl. Absolutely no comparison to the green. Just my own opinion here folks.

The black vinyl sounds much better, like a new record should. I can finally listen to Wonderful, Slow and Movin' without tons of noise!

I gave my warped ones away when I got my replacements a while ago, and just pulled out my new ones last week to play. They sent me 2 disc ones...

Anyone have an extra warped set of green vinyl they can spare.
I have the black set, but looking for the green set for my collection.
Will pay!

Thanks!

I got a replacement set of green vinyl and my originals were fine.  Thing is, its just the vinyl in plastic sleeves.  They didn't send another gatefold outer sleeve thing.  If you're still interested, PM or email me.
