Anybody else on spotify? (Of course SBB is!) I see a few that I know on FB. Anywho, this thing is AWESOME, I highly recommend. I even splurged for the $5/mo thing to avoid ads, and it's well worth it. It will probably lead me to find more records to buy, although Amazon's probably going to lose some mp3 bidness from me.
I just created an account yesterday...not sure that I am too thrilled just yet. Picked a couple of CDs to play and for both (the new Seun Kuti and something from Portugal. The Man) a bunch of tracks wouldn't play. I should probably add my FB account so that I can access friends playlists...
I haven't had a single problem getting tracks to play -- maybe a bandwidth thing? I've got a ton here at work (don't tell my IT guy). Enjoying that Seun Kuti record right now!
I got an invite for the free version and I'm just using it to sample CD's before buying them. No real need to pay to get on my phone because I just upload whatever I download to the Google Music thingy. I like it though, nice they have a free option.

This is the main reason I'm on it. That and to share playlists with a few friends of mine that live out of town.
Anyone have an invite for moi?
Woop, woop, Spotify! :) I really like it, for several reasons, I like that it's easy and fast to share music and I like that the instant I add a song to a shared playlist my friend gets it in their Spotify and I really quite like the Related artists feature, that's how I found one of my favorite bands Noah and the Whale. However it's sad that some music is not included, but you can always add your local files. I got one of the versions where you pay as well, thinking about upgrading to the one where you can have it in your phone. It's all good! :)
i love it!
Still closed for Mexico... fuckers :(

anyone besides Crispy have any invites? I can PM you my email address. Thanks in advance!
I have no invites. There is a way to do it around the invites. I'll post the instructions when I'm not at work. I did it and had no prob.

I think if you look Anglophile in the dictionary, I think they may have a pic of me. Yes, the little work around worked like a charm when I did it. And I'll work on a few more lists. I have nothing better to do as it's too hot to do anything other then sit in the AC.
I don't see how one gets invites, otherwise I'd offer one. Maybe only with a paid account? In any case I LOVE THIS SPOTIFY THING!!!
I agree: MJK's list are groovy. 8)
Follow the instructions on this link. This is what I did and I was able to do it without any problems.

Thanks MJK! Worked like a champ.

Yes! I am finally able to listen immediately to mjk's, Ruckus's, everyone else's, and my own recommendations! The only trouble now is there are too many. I already have 32 records to listen to on my starred list.
Invite would be appreciated :)
Go to the bottom of page one of this thread and follow MJK's link.....
I think I now have proof for my theory that e_wind does not read prior posts... ;D ;)
How do you see other people's lists? I like the interactiveness of this, but after a quick 15 minute browse, it looks liks Napster has a better selection at the same $10 a month price.
If you connect it to facebook, it will show you your friends who are on spotify. Also, you can search usernames thusly: "spotify:user:"+[username]
Me: "spotify:user:crispyinstilly"
I finally got my free invite today...I think it took 3-4 days...of course after I went through MJK's instructions already. It looks like the free account is unlimited use though, whereas the "open account" I signed up for has a 20 hour/month limit? Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm going to try to sign up for the "free account." So e_wind, if you can wait 3-4 days just go to spotify.com and request an invite. Think I'm really going to like this, if I can avoid the obsessive "must listen to everything!" mentality.
Other than the time allowed thing, is there any other difference between the "free" and "open"? I know if you do the pay piece, a shitload of stuff open

Ha! That is the FIRST time I have ever been accused of such. Good article, and explains very well why I am happy to hire spotify to supply this service to me -- for the whopping price of $5 a month. And if I were in my car more, I'd upgrade to $10 to use it on my phone.
So far, the availability of music hasn't disappointed me much. Missing that I've looked for include:
Sleepy Sun -- only 1 track available!
Sun Kil Moon -- no Admiral Fell Promises
EDIT: Did you see the counterpoint (http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2011/07/why_im_not_going_near_spotify.html), Tracy? Also interesting, raising the question of what happens after the inevitable price increase, ala Netflix.

Spotify has been in Eupore for some time and it has NOT hurt Itunes there. In fact this should help build sales. You now have a place to listen to songs/albums in full vs a 30 sec clip and they are yours to keep if you buy. That's the only issue with Spotify. It's streamling only so you cannot add it to an ipod or a portable MP3 player. I'm a firm believer in having devices specific for jobs. I have no desire to have a phone that also plays music. It breaks I no longer have a phone or a music player. I'm fine with keeping things seperate.

OK so I think I'm going to do the $10 a month thing to have it on my phone. Does anyone else do this? I'm already paying $10 a month for Napster, and I think Napster's selection is a little better (although I have found some stuff that Spotify has that Napster does not), but I really like the sharing capabilities of Spotify. Anyway, I'm going to drop Napster for the time being and give Spotify a shot.

I haven't enabled the social thingy yet, nor have I made all my playlists public, but here's my profile: http://open.spotify.com/user/doholdhands (http://open.spotify.com/user/doholdhands) In case anyone gets worried, there's not a lot of MMJ in the playlists, because I normally just play their whole band page when I play them, or local files. If anyone else wants to share playlists, post away!
ok guys, signing on for the first time. any tips? how do i find other people? when it says "plug your ipod into spotfiy to sync tunes... that means a one way sync right...
I don't sync. I'm deathly paranoid that it will somehow wipe out my ipod (which I manually manage). You can search for people by doing spotify:user:USERNAME and the user name should be lower case. If you are on Facebook, you can sync up your Facebook friends with Spotify and it will pull in friends that are on both.
List your ID's for those not on FB. Shocking, I'm mjk73 on Spotify.
My userID is crispyinstilly if you don't know me on FB.

Solid picks from the rest of you guys too! I'm loving Spotify - I've always felt iffy about downloading music (not to mention it takes up a TON of space on my computer and I'm too lazy/indifferent/sentimental to delete much) so as mjk said this is a great way to check things out without committing.

I just want to make sure I don't own things that I didn't know that I owned.
It'd be nice to sort of "uncheck" every other track to ensure that I don't play songs twice and get the album experience.
Otherwise, I'm starting to get it, but have a new complaint:
The advertisement said 'click here to listen to the new Stephen Malkmus" so I did. And the songs were listed, and then it told me I needed to own the songs to listen to them. Well that sort of defeats the purpose, right?

Well either you can click the title of an album and play only that album, or you can use the queue feature and queue more than one album and it'll only play the songs in queue. I don't have advertisement anymore, but when I did you could always play the songs in them, dunno, another glitch perhaps? What's more annoying is that there's one artist named M. Ward and another named M Ward... I've written to them about that though, so hopefully they will solve it soonish. Then there's some spelling errors here and there like Bright Eyes "Amy in the White Coat" being spelled "Army in the White Coat", but that's pretty much the only problems I have.

Well the ad came up on the bottom, so I clicked it and the page for the album came up. There was a full tracklisting, but they were all greyed out. I clicked all over - the artist, album, each track, etc, and it just kept telling me "this album currently not available. purchase the songs and import them if you want to listen" or somehting to that effect.
Actually I think it was a mistake - if I do a search for the album it doesn't come up.
Yeah, you can't preview stuff that hasn't actually been released yet. ;)
That's why I was so excited!

Made a Hurricane Irene collaborative playlist if anyone wants to contribute:
Hurricane Irene (http://open.spotify.com/user/elchode/playlist/5xSElXo4mCF0vNamfYAihD)
I hope I did this right.
I just ask you don't put on Dylan's Hurricane or the Scorpions
I guess I need one of them fancy Spotify invites, if anyone's got a spare.

So anyone been discovering any new tunes they're digging from this playlist thus far? I'm enjoying it.
I have been listening to lots of new stuff directed to me from that playlist, especially from Maggie, but also Ruckus and mjk, and yours like The Weeks, and I can't believe I'd never listened to J.J Grey and Mofro -- outstanding!
Time to check out the new new stuff.
