I'm in a facebook group where an individual claimed we would hear the first leg of tour dates later this week? Any truth to this? Sorry, I'm foaming at the mouth; I will literally take anything at this point.
Let's go Philly! 3 nights at the Mann! :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:
if the tour was to be announced and tickets went on sale this friday, i think we would have seen a Roll Call email by now? assuming?
i'm betting on next week for the announcement
several sources (including band members) at OBH consistently confirmed that we would get tour announcement by the end of February and new album on 5/5.
Given the holiday week, I'd be shocked if they announce with week and tickets go on sale by 2/20....would seem more likely that we get an announce next Monday and roll call on sale by 2/27. just my opinion though
Hoping for double Mann and Triple RR!
I think next week based on the Alabama Shakes announcement.
I wonder when they will release a single. Shortly after tour/album announcement?
the shows at the MANN have been incredibly successful night but neither have sold out. you gotta sell out 1 before you book a double-header
i love the mann. i kinda hope they play the Forest Hill Stadium in Queens. Such a cool venue

no one seems to sell out at the mann.. mid level bands always play there that haven't quite got the fanbase to play wells fargo... good atmosphere either way.

Add War on Drugs or Dr Dog and I think you'll get the sell out.
And Kurt Vile!
I would ABSOLUTELY be down for War on Drugs as a tour leg opener. ABSOLUTELY.
The dude fit in so well on stage with the jacket as well. His style of playing is so different from what Jim or Carl do that he has his own musical space to work with and I could easily see him sitting in for significant amounts of time like at OBH. Although, i'm guessing that was just a "special" thing.
Also, let's keep Jim in that weird new trench coat thing and the knuckle length golden gloves. I'm diggin whatever vibe that is.

based on nothing but a hunch, I'd bet we see dates and/or record info on Monday...and they are doing a special on them on World Cafe right now, national NPR radio show...seems like perfect preface to news!

Today could be the day.. but i also remember someone saying that Carl and Bo said 3/1 for the album and tour announcement. That's a Sunday, however maybe that's when the roll call email goes out and the real announcement is the following Monday (next monday).
Hope i'm wrong, can't wait much longer.

yea, I could use some good news on the music front since Sturgill had to cancel some dates (illness) and I was supposed to see him tomorrow.

I'm guessing there will be a roll call email sent out the night prior to the announcement. So we won't hear anything today (unless it's that email).
Do any of you think that it's possible for a Wednesday or Friday announcement? Or would a Monday announcement next week be more likely?

I doubt it would be Friday...want media to pick up news & Friday/weekend not usually good traffic times. If not today, I guess next Monday

They're seriously killing me here! I thought the rumor was before 3/1 not after. :/
Maybe the record is getting delayed a bit? If they want to market it well, I think the announcement should go out next week at the latest for a 5/5 release.
I thought a lot of announcements were on Tuesdays
Tuesdays are the way to go.
Where was the memo that said the announcement had to be on Monday? Did I miss something?

That's clutch info, thanks Tutofqueens!!
I'm not hip on the music buis or how bands interact with deciding forces-- why would they move it back (and also does it mean that the album is being pushed back)? Is it more likely the record company anticipating better album sells on a certain date or something the band is unhappy with? e.g. like which single or song to be released first

I got an alert on my phone this afternoon announcing a show in July in Charlotte. I took some screenshots to send to my friend (luckily). When I checked the website here to see the whole tour, I didn't that date. Also, when I went back to TicketMaster to check the tour, they had taken the page down.
Also, it says tickets go on sale March 6th, so I'd expect an announcement soon.

I think it would different if it just showed up on YouTube or on a torrent site, but when it shows up in the online store of Neil Young's music player, it seems legitimate. They had an MMJ Pono, did it seem out of the question that they would debut a single on Pono?
Didn't realize it was a leak at the time (sorry MMJ)! It's already out there if I didnt post it someone would have.

Agree Justin .... it wasn't like Jim and Bo were sitting around, saw that it leaked and demanded it be taken down. Business side of things unfortunately. It'll be back up soon enough...
I think the reason they keep deleting the thread(s) is that it is still available for purchase at the PONO music store. I bought it (sorry) and it has grown on me--has me really excited about the album!
Cheers

Pono are music biz people. They are surely working with A&R to get all non-Pono options pulled until the single is released next week.
I agree that its unlikely the band had any influence over getting the YT vid pulled. I mean, Bo favorited my tweet saying I loved his work on the track.

If their goal is to get people to buy it from Pono, it's working. I just bought it in case it gets pulled.
Good points--my theory destroyed lol. New Theory: Agree with buymycar- Get ppl to buy/download PONO! Hope everyone is enjoying the tune nonetheless!!
Wouldn't they promote it if that's what they wanted instead of having a forum member accidentally stumble across it?
Anyways, bought it last night - is there anyway to get it into iTunes so I can get it on my phone?

I don't use iTunes, but this might help... http://www.mcelhearn.com/how-to-play-flac-or-other-lossless-audio-files-in-itunes/ (http://www.mcelhearn.com/how-to-play-flac-or-other-lossless-audio-files-in-itunes/)
Use FLAC to decode to .wav then drag into iTunes, name the file and voila, lossless music in iTunes, or you can use iTunes to convert it to .mp3, .aac or apple lossless.
So, I created a Pono account and downloaded the track and listened with the free pono web player. I have a rather boring 9 to 5 office job, but am lucky to have a door and some halfway decent speakers. I looped this song for about 6 straight hours today. Digging it......and managed to get a lot of work done in the process.
Pono must have taken it down, it says "not in territory" where the price should be. I would have paid ten bucks to get that now.
Me too. Super bummed I missed getting a taste of the leak yesterday, so some tour news would for sure perk me up.

Agreed. I need something with more weight. Keep the HotBM or Day is Coming tracks to a minimum. Give us some weighty stuff to really sink our teeth into.

Well the first single to me is usually an indication of the path the album is going to follow. I sure hope I'm wrong and they aren't going down Pop Street.
I'm obviously going to buy it no matter what but if I was a casual fan on the fence about it, this single would lean me more to pass than purchase. I'm sure there are casual fans who feel the exact opposite about it though. Not judging anyone's take just giving my opinion after listening to it.

Well, after looking at the mmj wiki im confused now, i thout circuital was released as the first single but they dont list it as a single there at all. Anyway, looking at singles in general: Outta my system, black metal, im amazed, off the record.. All qualify as some of the poppiest songs in the mmj catalogue. I wouldnt be worried if the first single off of the new album is in a similar vein. This has been going on since 2005 and they have still managed to write some pretty good music in between. Ill be worried when the whole album sounds like that. However, we already know through compound fracture and only memories that this is not the case.

gotcha. I tend to agree with this. I was texting with another forum member about Big Decisions and Jim's co-writer on the track (Dan Wilson). Dude's a major pop songwriter (Adele's Someone Like You, Pink, John Legend...also Pres Hall, Spoon, Weezer). So, it's not surprising it has a very accessible sound.

Where does the South and Midwest fit into these? So no Red Rocks this year?

Not sure how serious of a post this was, but i highly doubt that they would only tour the east coast in their first real tour since 2012. To add, it's an album tour, so they are going to want to promote it far and wide.
I see this tour being very similar to the 2011 circuital tour. That one started with a few festivals (Hangout, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo i do believe) before hitting the midwest immediately after and proceeding all over the country. That year also featured a one-nighter at Red Rocks and a brief excursion into europe before returning home for NYE.
The big question is this: With the second album already just around the corner, what happens after this first album tour? Do they really jump right back into another album tour? Seems like there should be a gap between NYE and the next album drop with so far only OBH3 to fill it. Perhaps more international dates? Maybe a quick and dirty round 2 through the U.S? Surely, after such a long time off, they won't go back on break for another 6 months. Whatever the case, i'm sure they are excited at the endless possibilities that are in front of them and i can't wait to see what happens.

I'm sure there is a reason that song is the single. If you look at all past first singles it makes sense.
i'm not sure i follow...what singles are you referring to?
Co-writer?? Is this something that Jim has done before?

he's written a couple of tracks with the band but doesn't appear that he has with someone outside the band, at least according to the Wikis for the studio albums.
I saw this awesome post on FB yesterday regarding summer plans being on hold until MMJ tour dates are announced.
I thought about how excited I will be to see not only the festivals they'll be at, but also all of the super cool venues they will play based on sound quality, location, etc...
They never fail to blow me away, and I honestly don't know if I'm happy or sad when I tell a friend about them and I hear "who is My Morning Jacket"?
Just the best band ever that has the coolest following of fans.
I'm assuming they will play somewhere in Chicago (possibly Lolla?) and Milwaukee so I'm counting on at least 2 shows this summer even though I just got back fromOBH!
I'll be the designated drive for both shows for me and my MMJ friends. I can't wait for the announcements!!!!

I would take wams post pretty, seriously. If for nothing more, to prepare yourself for something that would be disappointing compared to MMJ's known hard-touring ways. Some outlying issues are just bigger than tour dates, and like I said, I was told that this years tour will not be the massive album-tour we're used to from the band.
Nothing is set in stone yet, either. Its very possible that things will change by the time they announce the dates, and maybe they'll play more.
I would sort of be stoked if Wamsankas theory is on target. Start off the holiday's with an east coast run, slink down to Mexico for OBH3, and then do the Best West Coast all summer. Yes Please.
I'm super stoked as I have some vacation time and some money saved up so I'll be able to go to hopefully 5 to 6 shows this year. I'm hoping (Chicago, Milwaukee, Forecastle, Red Rocks, San Francisco, NYE?).
I just can't wait to see, is there an album release show in Louisville? Any multi night city shows confirmed? NYE show this year? (hopefully Chicago!) Which staple songs get left out for the new ones or possibly 3 hour sets? (wishful I know) Who opens up for them this year? (please Strand of Oaks/Dr. Dog/Phosphorescent/War on Drugs) Will MMJ be playing any New Basement Tapes songs that Jim did? Are most venues this summer going to be outdoor ones? (hopefully not in Chicago due to curfew)
I love comparing the album tracks to hearing them live. I always love finding the differences and added elements to the live songs, can't wait!

My theory is that they (music buis ppl) are still trying to get it down from PONO and anytime we post a direct link to it the thread gets deleted.
I bought it as well. Would be weird for them to take it off Pono at this point.
Pono are music biz people. They are surely working with A&R to get all non-Pono options pulled until the single is released next week.
I agree that its unlikely the band had any influence over getting the YT vid pulled. I mean, Bo favorited my tweet saying I loved his work on the track.
The band absolutely had it pulled.

Well yeah, especially since this fest is hitting Seaside Hts. N.J. but sadly no MMJ on the bill that weekend. It could very well be the Yac effect benefitting Iowa!
I was thinking of making the Seaside deduction as well. To me, at least, its obvious that without any exaggeration the band is going out of its way to put the masses on a temporary hold and satisfy the request of one incredible mega-fan.

Why is that? Those towns are just about as far away from each other East to West in NJ as you can get. I think the Governors Ball has more to do with it than Camden. They're probably prohibited from playing another fest so close in miles that weekend.

Wait, which festival in Camden is that?
Wilco, built to spill, Alabama shakes, and father john are coming to town. Now all I need is for MMJ to drop their dates. This is going to be one hell of a summer!
I think I'm setting a record for highest frequency of checking in for news in the past 24 hours. I know that screen shot said the NC show goes on sale March 6, which means news soon. But I don't want to get my hopes up for this week in case that was pushed back.

I get that, but festivals are very touchy about where else bands play in respect to their festival. And you're probably right that the governor's ball fest factors in as well.
Yes, what is this Camden festival that is being mentioned here?

Definitely some Basement Tapes songs at this show with Mumford and Dawes on the bill. I hope this is a reasonable drive for you Yac.
I'm doing the exact thing you are doing justbcuzido and vespa....... travel plans in a holding pattern.
Its a 97 minute drive! However...
"Tickets for the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover in Waverly, Iowa go on sale Friday, March 6th at 10AM EST exclusively at gentlemenoftheroad.com/stopovers. Tickets are $199 with no additional services charges or fees. Only two-day passes are available. On-site camping within walking distance of the main stage for the full weekend is free with registration. We highly encourage you to camp with us to enjoy the full Stopover experience."
Tickets are $199 (I paid $140 for a 3-day Forecastle pass). I can drive home each night, so I don't need the "free" camping. I might have to pass on this one, and save up for a couple of headlining show nearby. I was expecting to get a one-day ticket, and if MMJ were Friday night, to pay less than $100.
Who am I kidding? I'll probably change my mind...
I also thought about the potential for some New Basement Tapes tunes during each of those sets.
I might sit this one out... :undecided:
I attended the Dixon, IL, stop on the first GOTR trek, and it was an amazing experience. Think of a much lower key Bonnaroo. I highly recommend making it out to Iowa!

Ah, I assumed it was XPN that people were referring to. I would much rather see them headline Mann. I saw Wilco headline XPN three years ago and while it was good, it was definitely an abbreviated due to the event. Mann is superior to Camden in pretty much every possible way, imo.

Totally agree Angelo. The Mann is where it's at for a Philly show, and let's face it, Camden pretty much is Philly show wise. I doubt there would be a show at each. Most likely one or the other IMO. The Mann gets my vote EVERY time!

I didn't notice if this has changed but you used to get a +1 for early entry with each RC membership.
You did have to be a RC member to purchase the soundchecks, but if you were taking a +1 that was an additional admission charge. My memory isn't what it used to be, and I don't remember exactly what the limit was on soundchecks purchased per membership. For some reason I'm thinking four but I'm not 100% certain. I've purchased two soundchecks a couple of times with my membership but never needed more than that.
I can never remember how this works, does everyone need to renew now? Or do you renew when your year is up from the last renewal? If the latter, how can I find out when mine expires.

Login to your account on the Dashboard above. It'll tell you when your membership expires/expired. If you've still got time on it, you can renew now, and it should just pickup when the old one expires. At least that's how it used to be. You wouldn't lose the time left on the active membership.
Only advantage to renewing now if you still have time left on your old one would be to get the merch sooner,IMO. As long as you have an active membership you'll be able to get in on presales if there are any.

They just posted on Facebook the word tomorrow. It's about time. Now are they going to open up roll call membership again? I let mine lapse.
I think they heard you...

Awesome, thanks for the update, just renewed!
CHIMMJFAN
Not sure if that background image on the roll call announcement is the album art work or not, but either way... Im diggin the vibe. Can't wait.
Definitely some announcement(s) coming tomorrow. I might be able to see MMJ 3-4 times in an eight day stretch this summer without driving more than three hours. *fingers crossed*
so for those of us who just renewed our roll call which expires in february 2016, do we still get all the perks of the new package minus the shirt/vinyl? What about this new "VIP package for MMJ shows"? do we get access to those and what will they be??
Just purchased the Roll Call renewal. Started it with the old website and it completed with the new one. All the pre-order information is over on the main page now. Kind of funny, as of right now, you can buy the deluxe vinyl package for $119.95 and Deluxe Roll Call for $40. If you bundle it together its 164.95
New home page is live!
http://mymorningjacket.com/ (http://mymorningjacket.com/)
Wonder what these VIP bundles will be all about. Premium seating?
Sounds like pre-sales to shows are going down on 3/9, if I'm reading the store correctly:
*Please note – purchases must be made by 12 PM Pacific on March 6th in order to receive the code for the first pre-sale on March 9th.*
This Roll Call membership stuff is always confusing. I purchased the deluxe 2014/2015 Membership last year and I think I'm still owed one more "end of year vinyl." Now they have a new poster/shirt. Do I have sign up again to get the new shirt/poster? Why are there two Roll Call memberships for 2015?

Sorry, I may have jumped the gun. Speculation is the XPN festival at the end of July. Has not been announced yet.
Ah, I assumed it was XPN that people were referring to. I would much rather see them headline Mann. I saw Wilco headline XPN three years ago and while it was good, it was definitely an abbreviated due to the event. Mann is superior to Camden in pretty much every possible way, imo.
NOOOOOO, i hate Camden. Please play philly instead

Manchester, London and Amsterdam! Seems like a road-trip for me

I'm with ya dude, I'm really hoping on dates to be announced for Philly! That XPN Fest speculation seems true at this point, but I really hope it isn't because Camden SUCKS. They've got open dates between 7/22 - 7/26 and last year's XPN Fest was the weekend of 7/26-7/27. It would be great if they squeezed a night in at the Mann Center that weekend though.
hopefully they will hit up the west side of the u.s. no texas, cali dates? but multiple dates in several east states. oh the fucking humanity
I think it's a given they will go to the west coast.
It seems like the festivals in NYC and Boston have kept them from doing any regular shows within a 5 hour drive of me. Was hoping to avoid the festivals.
Whatever, here's to new tour dates
Seriously, no Philly dates??? I can't even explain how sad this makes me...I'm going thru MMJ live show withdrawal ever since OBH. And about these XPN fest rumors, I would rather MMJ NOT play Camden ever again. I saw them there a few years back and the acoustics are so bad there in general that I would rather them just not play at all. It didn't even sound like an MMJ show to be honest. I would love if they could squeeze in a show at the Mann again, they were great there, but I feel the chances of that happening are slim to none.
Thank goodness I can look forward to seeing them at Bonnaroo, but really I was so excited to see them headline a show....!
how is the venue in columbus? the fact that floating action is opening those shows makes it really tempting.

I think there's a potential for a Mann Center show on 7/23 or 7/25 - it seems weird that they'd have 3 open days in between Lewiston NY and Merriweather PP. I remember a few years back MMJ played the Mann a day or 2 before MPP, so maybe there's hope they'll do that again. They're playing Lewiston NY on 7/22, and then nothing is scheduled on 7/23. There's a show Mann Center has Diana Krall on Friday 7/24 so that's out. 7/25 is when XPN Fest would be, so my guess is they'd probably headline Saturday at XPN before going to MPP on 7/26. Here's hoping for a Thursday 7/23 at the Mann Center!
Jason Isbell opening at MPP!!!! :cheesy:

Good point on the promotional angle. I wonder how they might word "No Repeats for Old Stuff but YES on Repeats from the Waterfall". In all of 2011 after the Circuital release I believe they did not have more than 1 night at any venue so hard to predict what will be.
Tour opener @ Georgia Theater... capacity ~1000... so stoked! Those pre-sale tickets will be gone quickly. Hope I get me some. Any word on purchase limits? Usually limited to 4 but I would not be surprised if it were 2 for this show.
Are you limited on how many shows you can purchase for?

I am 95% sure they are playing Newport Folk, which is why there's a blank block of dates between 7/22 and 7/26.
WOW.
Never in my wildest dreams did i dare to hope and pray for a 3 night run at Chicago Theater. With all due respect to the capitol theater, which is very nice, the Chicago Theater is just plain better in almost every way.
Add to that: It will be summer and not winter. It is more centrally located for MMJ fans throughout the US and near two airports where you may commonly find great deals. It is during the week so hotel prices should be lower.
Add to that: They are also playing multi-night runs in Minneapolis and Detroit, and a single night in Milwaukee, so this will take some pressure off of the ticket scramble.
Guys, this is DEFINITELY the centerpiece of the tour. It's Jacketfest Midwest 2015 is what it is. The only way this gets better is if they announce no repeats and i honestly think it will happen.

If so i'm assuming that is simply the soundcheck/poster package that they do for some shows.
I definitely think Newport is happening for MMJ. I'm also hopeful that we'll get a New Basement Tapes set at Newport too.

No love west of the Rockies :undecided: and some of you are complaining about no Philly show, you probably have 4-6 shows within a relatively easy drive. I guess we'll be waiting until either winter or 2016, still awesome to finally see some dates! I'm excited for those of you that have multiple nights in your 'hood, very cool!

Regarding the 3 night Chicago run, Dawes is opening for Hozier on Wednesday June 10th at the Pritzker Pavilion which is less than a mile from the Chicago Theatre. Maybe Taylor Goldsmith would make an appearance and do some of the Basement Tapes. Or maybe Jim would join Dawes at Pritzker for a song or 2!
Been waiting for a three night in Chicago for a while!!!
The 5/16 Knoxville show is billed as "An Evening With..." Can I assume that this means there will be no opener?

I'm not from Chicago and there are some other forum folks that could probably explain the situation much better than I could, but what I do know is that the venue is absolutely gorgeous, has great sound, and a highly professional staff. There MIGHT be a GA Pit but if they have one it would be very small. Most likely it will be all reserved seating. I remember Jim had a lot to say about the architecture and the design of the theater last time and i would be shocked if the band isn't absolutely over the moon to be playing there for 3 whole nights. Also, I've noticed that when they those signature venues, like a Red Rocks or a Chicago Theater they tend to take things more seriously and really put their all into it. Should be one hell of a run.
As far as hotels, priceline is your friend. It's a downtown venue so their are nice, comfortable 3 and 4 star hotels all within walking distance and since it's mid week you should be able to get a great deal. Shop around for parking though if you have a rental or make a road trip in. Hotel parking is always at least double (40 to 50 dollars a day!) what you can find if you simply drive to the hotel, unload your stuff with a bellperson, and then find a third party lot a few blocks away.
Lastly, this:

Such an awesome old theater. Saw them in 2008 when they did the two night run. No GA for those. Can't wait!
I'm only writing another post out of sheer excitement but the Chicago shows are/will be THE shows. They are 2015's Red Rocks, Port Chester, T5 (and maybe Wiltern). The band has been very clear in picking these 3 night runs that they have (at least) something more special about them.
Based on scheduling issues and my lack of desire to see the band at a mega-festival (where they won't get to really unleash) I have already booked my hotel a mile from the venue and plan on these being my only summer shows (unless Mann or Port Chester are added).
ALSO: Between May and the start of the Solid Sound Festival on June 26th Wilco have no dates booked so in addition to any Basement Tape pairings would love to see Tweedy sit in.
Really wanted to avoid a festival show, but looks like Boston Calling will be all I can do. I assume that prevented them from doing any other shows in New England.
The 3 night Chicago run is going to be insane.

I'm in the same boat- really wish there was a New England headlining show... (just googled the Artpark in NY having no idea where that was - 7 hours 4 mins lol). Will have to be content with Boston Calling and Newport (assuming that happens)
Why are all of the two and three night runs in the middle of the week? That definitely puts a dent into my vacation time. This forces my hand to Columbus instead of Chicago. Any idea what the chance of no repeats would be? I understand they are promoting a new album, but couldn't they play 5 new songs one night and 5 the other?

Traditionally, "An Evening With.." means no opener.
Is there a point in getting a Roll Call Digital membership (for Chicago), or will the presale be sold out by the time the Digital window opens up at 10:30?

I spoke to Carl once after the Port Chester run. He was incredibly nice and very outgoing. So I wasn't too shy.... I told him that I loved the no repeats, and that fans that saw the entire run really appreciate that. I forgot his exact words, but he said that when then do those multi night runs, it should be known that there will be repeats. He also said that that they shouldn't have to announce that fact (as they did prior to PC and Wiltern) as it's just a given going forward. There were no repeats at OBH1 and 2.
Of course things can change when they're promoting a new album.
I'm hoping they add on to High Sierra Music Festival, there's a huge gap in their schedule that would work perfectly with that. Please!!

I also had to google Lewiston. Still 5 hours from me haha. I did remember though, that when I was younger I went to Lewiston and rode the jetboats on the niagara river. It was pretty awesome and anyone going to this show should try to work that in.
I might have to try for Boston Calling now.
Lewiston is the most random place I've EVER seen on a batch of tour dates to promote a new album but it's practically in Toronto so I am SO FUCKING THERE!!
I'm going to try for Chicago tix, and keep my fingers crossed. Definitely doing MPP, and St.Augustine FL!
St. Auggie is a great little town with lots of good eats, and some cool things to see. Anyone going to this should drop me a line. My daughter lives right across the street from the Amp, and I'm down there as often as possible. It's a sweet tiny little venue that holds 4,000 max with a nice small pit. Last time they played there in 09 it was only about 1/3 full. I never thought they be back but stoked they are!
gluvmiller - you seem like a dude "in the know". can you confirm the seating arrangement for the Red Rocks show?
i never would have asked this in the past, but we got royally screwed for the Wilco show this summer when they switched it up out of the blue and put GA ONLY IN THE BACK and never let anyone know before the first presale. i and everyone i know instinctively went for GA!
My mind is blown right now with all of these multi-night runs and a 3 night run at the gorgeous Chicago Theatre on my birthday week!!!!!!
For those thinking about travelling to Chicago, the Chicago Theatre is beautiful, last time MMJ played there I do not believe there was any pit or GA. There are hotels all around and obviously many bars/restaurants. Close to Millenium Park and even better its summer time! Looks as though tix are $26-$56.
I am going to try and pull off Chicago all dates, Milwaukee (Tix $32.50), 2 night in Minnesota, Forecastle and finally my first trip to Red Rocks in August. It might get a bit pricey but hey my last summer was garbage so it's time to turn things around!
Can't wait to see everyone out on the road this summer!
CHIMMJFAN
my only concern with the 3 night run at Chicago is that this part of the "album tour" so I would expect they play a good amount of the new album each night
however, if the album is amazing all good.
I doubt they do a "no repeats" spontaneous curtain show but we will see
I think more than any other issue, the topic of whether or not there will be repeats at A. Chicago and B. the 2 night run cities should be of paramount concern. I know some of you guys are good at communicating with some of these guys on twitter or email. Now is the time to utilize those resources!

What about Detroit CHIMMJFAN?
im hitting the same ones and you my man, plus Detroit.
Regarding repeats:
I just looked back at Chicago 2008 (before they started doing no-repeat shows) and there were 50 songs played in two nights with 26 of them being duplicates (so 13 repeated songs). Of the repeated songs, 6 were off of the new album at the time (Evil Urges) and the other 7 were the usual suspects (Off the record, Anytime, OBH, Golden, Gideon, Lay Low, Wordless).
Since then, there has only been one other 2 night run and that was Red Rocks 2012 which had no repeats (i think possibly the first show where they come out and stated it ahead of time). Then there was the Wiltern, Port Chester, and OBH1+2. All no-repeat shows.
So we are in uncharted territory now. Multiple multi-night runs during an album tour. I don't know what this all means but if they DO do repeats I sincerely doubt that they will have that many from one night to another again. They have more fans now and there are two full albums plus extras worth of new material.

I second that recommendation of the St. A venue. It's like a mini MPP. I was also at that '09 show and can't believe they'll be back considering how empty the place was. But MMJ rocked it anyway.

What about Detroit CHIMMJFAN?
im hitting the same ones and you my man, plus Detroit.
I would love to do Detroit as well but taking off time from work for the Friday show in Minneapolis, trip to Red Rocks, Friday for Forecastle, and probably cutting out of work early on the Chicago nights is already tough. If I try for Detroit as well I would probably be pushing it, lol. But do know that I am jealous as I would have made those shows as well!

My birthday is June 10th, so I feel obligated to return home to Chicago for the show. What day is yours? We'll have to buy each other a beer
That's awesome mine is actually June 12th, so its a pre-birthday celebration but yeah beers are in order!

Wish I could make more of the Chicago dates before heading down to Bonnaroo, but looks like I've got an excuse to head to Milwaukee for a weekend!

Eric...I'm leaning towards making the drive up from Miami. I'll give you a heads up if the "leaning" becomes definite. Hope all is well.

Sounds good! All's well here, and hope it is by you as well.
I'll be sure and bring that poster I've been holding onto for ya since Boston NYE!
I wonder why all of these shows are middle of the week. That definitely kills vacation. Oh well! Still going to Columbus!

3 Florida Dates!!!!!! Heart Pounding!!! Arms Raised in the Air!!! Screaming!!!! PUMPOSITY!!!!!
Congrats man, that's awesome.
Now i know there is probably nothing more obnoxious than a New Yorker complaining about not getting a show (Gov Ball doesnt count bc I cant go), but consider this my complaint... :undecided:
haha but seriously, this is all very exciting and I'm happy for everyone who's getting to plan out their tour schedule already. I'm gonna try my hardest to make it down to Merriweather, which is the only semi do-able date right now

I definitely think Newport is happening for MMJ. I'm also hopeful that we'll get a New Basement Tapes set at Newport too.
I definitely think NBT will be at Newport. Lines up with Elvis Costello's touring schedule.
Since they aren't coming to Texas yet, I am definitely going to travel to at least one show, and maybe drive to the New Orleans show (only 4 hours or so from Houston). To anyone who has been to any of these venues on the current slew of dates, is Red Rocks the obvious choice? That's what I'm leaning towards.
Also, with a deluxe Roll Call membership I get the laminate that gives me some special access to shows? Does anyone know how this works exactly? Say I'm buying 2 tickets under my name, am I the only one that gets access or do they have to have the same membership?
Thanks!

In past years you'd be the only one who can pick up the tix. They were non transferable, and usually held at Will Call.
For shows with an early entry, the RC Deluxe membership came with a laminate that allowed you and a +1 early entry. Your +1 didn't have to be a RC member but don't know if that will still be the case. I'd assume so but until the first ga show or a confirmation from management I'm only going by what past tours allowed.

Will have to be content with Boston Calling and Newport (assuming that happens)
mahgh33ta and pjfan04101 i will see you guys there!
MAN picking shows on this leg is gonna be an art form. Definitely hitting up Toronto and the Detroit Double Whammy, but contemplating whether to hit up another stop or wait it out for the inevitable holiday run -- lookin' at you, Port Chester.

Man I hope you're right on Capitol Theatre for new years. I know NYC area gets a lot of love usually, but I've been waiting 2 years for this tour and my only options are festivals. Need to find a way to be at that 3 night Chicago run
So what do you think is going on with that two and a half week gap in early july? Seems awful strange.
Gotta think they are working on finalizing NYC dates in that gap. I can see them adding more dates in general. Doesn't seem like the extensive tour they normally do. They are doing the whole festival thing, and also have another crazy tour schedule next year, with another new album to tour behind, but I can def see them adding a few more dates.
As mentioned in another post, there are no west coast dates either after Red Rocks, so I can definitely see those getting added as well.
We will see... But I sure as hell hope so... If not, it seems like a few roads trips this tour
The only other thing i thought of is that the gap comes right before Forecastle and their voyage home (for some of them at least). So they could have something very special planned for forecastle that requires extra rehearsal, or they could simply be planning a little break for themselves, or both.
i was thinking no NYC date announced yet because of the festival clause w/ gov ball

They will definitely do something for the Forecastle show. I wouldn't miss it. There are so many Kentucky based bands at Forecastle this year, so at the very least, there will be some cool collaborations.
so i know the tour schedule is gonna be much lighter next year, anyone heard of any rumors of them playing at a fest or 2? maybe at least forecastle?

I think if they play any shows at all, they will have at least one date in Louisville- they don't usually play the same fest in consecutive years though (or at least they haven't in a while).
That being said, I think if they are going to play any festivals, Bonnaroo and Forecastle would be good bets with this being Roo's 15th year celebration and MMJ being nearly synonymous with Forecastle.
Can't wait to hear what they have planned!

I would think perhaps 2016 is the year they play the festival named after one of their song lyrics ... Shaky Knees in ATL. Organizer is a huge MMJ fan and I know he's been trying to get them for some time (Jim appeared in the inaugural festival solo).
I would bet money that MMJ headlines Shaky Knees this year. I know the guy that created the festival was at the last One Big Holiday. I've gone to all 3 years so far and it's a GREAT festival, although the venue is moving again for the 4th time in 4 years. The lineups have been stellar every year and you'll end having to make some tough choices because there are so many awesome bands. VIP is well worth the money as it includes your beer and Fox Bros BBQ!
well thatd be fucking awesome, as i live in birmingham.
never been, sounds like a fest i should check out regardless! a fest i really wish theyd play is Wanee down in Florida
I met the Fox Bro's bros at OBH2, of course I moved from Atl 4 yrs ago after all the Southern fests got going. Would love for MMJ to play Shaky Knees!
