I've been waiting for MMJ @ the GA theater for so long! This is going to be an awesome/intimate show in such a small venue!

I cannot describe how excited I was yesterday when I saw The Georgia Theater as the first tour stop! I unfortunately missed the sea prom shows at the 40 Watt, so I've been itching for them to come back to little old Athens, Georgia.

So from looking at the other concerts that are going to be there, it appears that MMJ will be a general admission show.  For the locals, you think this will be the case?

It's always general admission.  The venue is small and it will be uncomfortably crowded.  Seen Umphrey's play there 3 times, and each show sold out within a minute.  Heres a pic I took after one of those shows from the back of the stage -

Thank you very much.. Here is where the roll call really comes in handy.

Also, very nice that Athens is eastern time zone, so this will not conflict with anyone's ability to get Chicago tickets for those thinking about doing both.

I am so dang excited about this show. I've been to 3 shows recently at the GA Theatre and its hands down my favorite place to see live music. The fact that MMJ is playing there is a dream come true. The sound quality and atmosphere are so so good!

Anyone get lucky?  For me it was sold out from very first entry to the ticket page. Then, after 5 minutes a glimmer of hope, it said select tickets.. i made a few errant clicks and then boom, didn't have 2 tickets. Sold out again.

Man, that was brutal this morning. My husband refreshed right at 10 a.m. and they were already sold out. Still hoping to score tix on Friday. We ended up with seats for the Atlanta and pit for Charlotte shows but...it's not the same

I know this is a first world problem but I'm glad to be on this forum where other people understand my pain!

They almost always reserve a few tickets to sell at the box office as soon as tix go on sale.  I'd confirm with them before you show up at the theater though.

I'm new to Roll Call (I joined specifically to be able to get tix for Athens and ATL) and got shut out for all three GA shows.

Is this typical for Roll Call members to get shut out so quickly? Seems like they'd give a large allotment to their most diehard fans, no?

PS. If anyone has an extra for Athens, I'm looking (not a fan of seated shows, so Fox isn't that big for me). Thanks!

Hello zenofmalarkey and welcome to Roll Call. The presales are always a crap shoot... it really helps to think of the whole presale experience as a lottery: if you win, it's awesome but most of the time you don't win. We all wish that more tickets were made available, especially for the official fan club/Roll Call presale. I live in Athens and I have missed several big shows that have instantly sold out, so I feel your pain. My best advice for getting Georgia Theater tickets is to be logged in and ready at 9:45 on Friday morning and then start refreshing the ticket page every 30 seconds at 9:58. MAKE SURE that you already have a ticketfly account otherwise you could lose precious time. There's a link at the top of the event page to create an account:  https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/800549 (https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/800549) Good luck, friend!

Question for those of you who have been to high demand/sold out shows at Georgia Theater:

How long before doors open do you suggest getting there?

Tame Impala just scheduled a show in our area (Milwaukee) the night we were supposed to leave for Athens (14th) so now we need to budget our sleep and drive time very smartly.

We could comfortably get there by 7pm est, which is one hour before doors.  However if we go "grueling pace" we could probably make it by 5.  Any input is welcome, thanks.

The Georgia Theater box office doesn't open until 11:30 AM... I bet the tickets will be sold out by then. It looks like everyone will have to go through the website.

Typically, the box office holds physical tickets for the event. Not sure what percentage of the total amount, but that's how The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC does it. Be prepared to get there early and wait in line... like camping out the night before early. Sort of like Black Friday. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the online sale.

Just want to repose the question:

How early do you think the line will start forming for this show?  I don't mean the the rail-crazies that get there at like 9am, i'm talking about more than 40 people.  Any idea?

+ Vibrations

Doing the bull dance, feeling the flow, workin it.

Got in on the gilt city presale.

But I have talked to the GATH box office and tix go on sale Friday at 10 am. She said they usually have 50-75 to sell in house separate of the online sales. Apparently people USUALLY start lining up 1-2 hours before they start selling tix.

The Ga Theatre is an amazing and intimate venue. I think the capacity is ~1029 and tickets to good bands always sell out fast. For those who have never been, Athens is the quintessential college town with a very lively downtown food/bar scene.  It's not crazy expensive and everything is walkable.  I think that weekend is Law school graduation, so there may not be a ton of hotel rooms. That being said, I DONT have tickets, so hopefully Friday works out. I did go to the Modest mouse show on Mon with some scalped CL tix. The Ga Theatre will NOT let you in unless your tickets match your ID (at least ticketmaster tix). They do this to prevent scalping and EVERY employee told me the same thing while I was imploring them to let me in.  Turns out that 6 of us had the same fake tickets from an Australian guy named "frank Crawford" Please punch him in the nose if you ever run across him! They did let us in right before MM played because a group of drunk/fighting guys got thrown out.  Long story short; I love Athens(Go Dawgs!) and buyer beware for any tickets from the secondary market for the Ga Theatre.

whoa. had no idea they were so strict. I sold a guy my extra (bought from ticketfly, not ticketmaster) outside the venue for Gogol Bordello. I assume he got in. That would suck if he's out there cursing my name right now looking to punch me in the face (I'm not Frank Crawford lol).

Wow... I get the sentiment but i feel that that policy hurts the honest fan the most.  How in the world can you have shows with big draws, knowing people will come in from out of state, and turn away someone who had no chamce of ever knowing about that policy?  That actually makes me pretty angry if thats true.  Fake tickets are one thing, i understand that you cant let someone in just because they bought a fake.  But denying because their name dossnt match the ticket.  Im going to call tomorrow and get clarification for those that will undoubtably have to go with the secondary market for this show.
Title: Re: Roll Call for Athens, GA - The Georgia Theater
Post by: jaye on Mar 12, 2015, 01:38 AM
I don't see how they could have that policy - what about all the tickets on StubHub right now?  Or people who bought 4 tickets and gave 3 to their friends??

Title: Re: Roll Call for Athens, GA - The Georgia Theater

Names are not printed on the tickets themselves, at least not the ones that are supplied by ticketfly. Obviously you have to be the right person if you're picking them up at will call, but there's no name on tickets to match. This is nonsense.
Title: Re: Roll Call for Athens, GA - The Georgia Theater
Post by: MACKEL on Mar 12, 2015, 09:34 AM
I don't know about the Georgia Theater policy regarding legitimate tickets with a different name, but I know good and damn well to STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE SCALPERS. I know there are a few honest people who are selling an extra ticket, but I have personally experienced many many people getting ripped off from either buying a ticket that's already been redeemed or buying a damn good looking fake. Don't do it... you'll regret it. Definitely try to get tickets from a reliable source.

And fuck Frank Crawford. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that name... I would love to get that piece of shit arrested for scalping/forgery/theft/whatever.
Title: Re: Roll Call for Athens, GA - The Georgia Theater

I've bought tickets off of craigslist and stubhub my entire life, and not once have i been ripped off.  It's a love/hate relationship for me.  I hate that they get the percentage of tickets that they do, but 95% of the time if i'm quick enough with the mouse i can get tickets for face value.  HOWEVER, for shows that are impossible to get tickets for like Radiohead, or for shows where you just couldn't get the seat you wanted also due to high demand, sites like stubhub allow you to pay a premium to pinpoint the exact location that you want to be in.

Off my soap box, back to what's important for our purposes.  I did some more reading and found that Georgia Theater has a policy of not letting you use the stub hub or craigslist ticket, but they will sell you one at face value to replace it.  Now, i need to check on this but if you have stubhub and something goes wrong they will give you a full refund.  If this is truly how it works out, then Georgia Theater is doing the right thing.  The stubhub customer gets a ticket at face value, they get reimbursed for the previously purchased ticket, and they still get to see the show.  At least the ticket that you bought previously acts like a place holder.  However, this is all good in theory.  I need to make some calls and see what will actually happen here.

I wasn't planning on going to this show at first, and then I saw the size of the venue and knew that I must.  I got to see them at the first Prom show at the 40 Watt in 2007, and to get another chance to see them in a small venue in that awesome town is exciting.

Oh snap, and I just remembered I was at the first show of the Circuital cycle as well.  The Unstaged show at the Palace in L'ville.  So now I'm selfishly hoping they don't add another show before this one.

I think as long as you use ticket fly you are ok and can probably transfer them ahead of time. It's ticketmaster that has to match the name of the purchaser. I just tried calling to verify, but maybe they are at lunch.  I've bought dozens of tickets of CL in the past without any problems.  "Frank Crawford" probably stood and talked to me for 15 minutes about shows we'd both been too, so reason to think anything was fake.  I also saw people get turned away at the Hozier show at Variety Playhouse the next night and their tickets looked identical to mine I bought from the box office. So people beware! Lots of shady people out there...

Oops, I take back what I said earlier about names not being on ticketfly tickets -- they sure enough are. Now that I finally opened up my ticket vault and looked inside, I see that it's true. Sorry about that.

So if the Theatre is supposed to replace a scalped ticket for face, why didn't werduga get that opportunity?

I love this idea, but I have never heard of such a thing at the GATH...but then again I haven't seen a whole lot of completely sold out shows there, and not many of my friends deal with scalping tickets in the first place

Well my ticket was scalped AND fake. There were 6 ppl with the same name on their tickets.  Luckily I got in, but if 14 ppl show up with the same ticket I know they'll be watching through the door when it opens. I just want everyone to be careful and aware of the steps they take to stop scalping (which I applaud, but how did all those tickets end up on stub hub so quickly?) hopefully I get one in the AM or my next post is begging someone to take me with them!

I have to call them about it to confirm (rather, they need to answer their phone) but they posted a very long winded response to someone who was complaining about their policy on an sts9 forum and that was part of the post.  At work on phone or i would dig it up.

Yeah, fake tickets are a whole different ballgame.  No venue will take a fake ticket if it doesnt scan right or if its a printed ticket that has already been used.

I have a good feeling about tomorrow.  As small of a venue as it is, if all of us are there right at 10est i like our chances.

I use Ticketfly every year for the Drive By Truckers shows at the 40 Watt.  There are no hard tickets issued.  Not sure if it is the same for the GA Theatre but I would assume it is similar.  The person who bought the tickets is on the list at the door and just shows their id and wristbands are given out then.  I always buy 2-4 tickets and you just have to have everyone with you when you check in.
Title: Re: Roll Call for Athens, GA - The Georgia Theater

I think the only hard tickets issued are the few that people currently waiting in line at the theatre right now.  The tickets we (hopefully) get online will be will call or have your name on them when you print them.  You can sell any extras(help others on the forum!) but those people have to walk in to the venue with you.

Wow, I guess I'm one of the few that got tickets. I was refreshing right at 10 and was able to get 2 (the limit). It even gave me a print at home option but I guess we'll see if that changes. I'm shocked - really wasn't expecting to get tickets. Hopefully there will be some extras floating around that aren't scalpers. Good luck!

Hey guys,  so after the presale i freaked out and bought two tickets on stub hub for about 128 a piece.  I was lucky enough to score 2 tickets through this onsale today so i'm putting my previously bought stub hub tix back on stub hub for what i bought them for (stub hub will charge me a little extra but i'll gladly eat the fees to get these to a forum member).  Whoever pms me first, we can coordinate a good time for me to post these for you.  I know it's not as good as getting them at face value, but it's better than 200 a ticket and would easily be the cheapest price on stub hub right now.

190 now, and climbing.  For the person that got on saying "don't be foolish and buy tickets now, the prices won't stay this high" after the roll call presale...  i think they seriously underestimated the demand for this show.  There are only 20 or so tickets on there right now and the show is 2 months away.  I'm guessing in a month they will be around 300.

G'day all,
Well, I struck out this morning from three different IP addresses and an honest to goodness phone call to ticketfly (all efforts were definitely exhausted).
Long time fan and club member, and I'd like to say good job on Monday's performance.  I scored a pair for each night at the Fox and couldn't be happier with my seats.
But no Athens...

If anyone has an extra, please PM me.

Cheers!

If what you've said here is true, I would be shocked if the Theatre wouldn't do anything about the fact that their employee is trying to make a profit off a ticket he probably got for free.  Especially if they have a direct policy against using tickets bought off Stubhub.  But I don't know, I might be reaching.

That dude is making it so that people who can only afford face value tickets, are no longer able to attend the show.  Sure he will find buyers, but it's a shame that certain people will miss out because he is trying to make a huge profit.

well now.. aint this some shit.  I just received the pdf tickets that i purchased from stub hub (immediately after the roll call presale) and sure enough, the name of the original buyer is right there on the ticket.  So i facebook the person.

Guess where they work.

I almost want to post images of the tickets (sans barcodes) so that others who purchase 3rd party tickets can bring this with them as leverage in case they are turned away at the door.

he works for the ga theater?

it sucks, but you probably shouldnt go fuck with his livelihood over some scalped tickets that you were willing to pay for

No, i have no interest in doing that.  I don't see it as my job to dole out the justice.  He or she will get their due eventually.  I just thought it was rather shocking at first, given how adamant they are about the ticket policy.

On the other hand, these tickets will be used at the venue.  I would imagine that if they look at the name they would instantly recognize A. I know this name B. This person is not my co-worker.  So at this point, if they give any grief about the mismatch i really don't think they have a leg to stand on.

Should be an interesting night.

Hey everyone, long time lurker, don't post much. Huge fan (as we all are!). Like a lot of you, I  wasn't able to get a ticket, even though its right down the street form my house. I just wanted to put it out there that if anyone has an extra, I'm looking for one.

For those that got tickets, enjoy the show! It's a great room, and seeing them there will be amazing! Hopefully I'll be there rocking out with you!

I guess I just got into live music in a culture where scalping is unacceptable in any way, but I've sort of taken on a double standard for MMJ just because it seems to be more acceptable in this scene.  But I also probably just see it as a larger problem because I live in Athens and consider it home and it sickens me to know this is going on at my favorite venue.  And the more I think about it, there is no way they should be getting away with this.

And I'm not sure who else could be doling out the justice other than the fans themselves, I doubt the managers of the Theatre have the time to go hunting through Stubhub to see who's scalping their (most likely) free tickets.  Not to mention, I'm guessing they would have to buy the tickets to even get the seller's info.  If they do indeed have rules against their employees scalping tickets, they are there for a reason and are probably hoping fans come forward.

I happen to be the one who got in touch with Stevie first, and I actually told one of my buddy's last night that I would sell him the extra because I wanted to see the show with someone else who was excited about MMJ but hadn't seen em yet.  Unfortunately I don't think he can swing $128 on one ticket, so I'm going to do some investigating and see what the Theatre has to say about this sort of thing in general.

What I can't figure out is if you purchase tix on the 2ndary market as printouts or an email, who is to say they will not be sold to several people?  So then it becomes a rat race to see who gets in first?  Make sense?

I just emailed a few folks with tix and I'm skeptical this is going to happen.  Thoughts on this one?  Does TicketFly transfer tickets in any way?

Thanks  :undecided:

It happens all the time and is a common scam. I've seen many people turned away at shows  because the ticket won't scan as they weren't the 1st ones with it to go in. Exactly the reason why I won't buy a printed out ticket from anyone other than a friend.

I know Stubhub has guarantees to protect the buyer but I'm not 100% certain how that works. If it's a tough ticket, and sold out show I can see them giving you your money back but I don't know how they could guarantee you a replacement ticket.

stubhub protects the buyers, if a ticket is bad they will buy another ticket for buyer at the sellers expense, usually finding the most expensive one they can and tack on another 20%    so it isnt a great place for scammers to move tickets

now buying a print out in front of the theater would scare the shit out of me,  i would make the person walk up to the door with me to make sure it scans

What if it's an extremely tough ticket, and the show is completely sold out? How can Stubhub buy another ticket especially so close to show time? What if the buyer gets there close to curtain time? Does Stubhub have people manning their offices that you could call at say 8:15 on a Sunday night?

I can see them refunding you the cash but I can't see how they can guarantee finding you another ticket 100% of the  time.

Stubhub does not guarantee another ticket.  They guarantee another ticket OR a refund.  If the show is sold out, they will refund the money.

That being said, I know a lot of people who use Stubhub and haven't heard of any of them having problems.

i should have said, if there are any tickets left.....now finding a place to print it when you are in front of the theater might be problematic.   i have used them for years and never had a problem

I hate scalping (scalpers) too! I understand it when people who love a particular band want to purchase extra tickets to share with friends and family, and usually they will sell them at cost. That is perfectly acceptable. I've done that in the past myself (and gotten burned when a couple of friends backed out on the day of the big show - Pink Floyd in Indianapolis back in 1994...10th row even!). However, "Legally Sanctioned Scalper Sites", like Bullshit Stubhub and the like are ruining the live music ticket market. I bet if Metallica were still young, energetic, and engaged with their fan-base today, that would be something they would be actively trying to end. Even Pearl Jam has finally been forced to bow down to the "status quo" of the powers-that-be in the music industry. How about if we just let the bands and/or the individual venues handle all ticket sales from now on and leave the Ass-hole scalper organizations to go to Hell!

i dont think i could remain friends with anyone who backed out of the division bell tour

Hi guys!

So I have been a member of roll call for a couple years now. Currently live in Georgia, went to school in Athens and cannot miss this show. I somehow was not able to get any tickets to this show on the presale day or the 13th when they came out to the public. Was wondering if anybody knows somebody that has an extra ticket or two! Please message me if you do. Not willing to pay Stubhub prices, but will definitely pay more than face for them

Periodically check in at cashortrade.org
There are some good folks over there... if a tix pops up, it will certainly be at fair value.
Good luck friend!

Does anyone happen to have a hotel reservation in Athens that they aren't using? Every hotel appears to be booked with the exception of the shady Howard Johnson and Microtel and yeah...I just can't do that. I can't imagine this is all for MMJ and graduation is the weekend before. Anyone know what's going on that weekend?

I just need one room for me and my wife. Please let me know if you've got anything to offer and I'm sure I can offer you something for your generosity. Thanks!

The only thing that would make sense is the Law School graduation ceremony on that Saturday. The Best Western off North Milledge might be your best bet. It would be a 5 min  Uber ride. Only a mile away from the Theatre.

There's some sort of Republican convention going on in Athens that weekend, I thought that had been covered in this thread somewhere- but maybe I'm wrong.

Nonetheless, I know some people who booked rooms at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center for like 100 bucks a night the day tickets went on sale.  I don't know if there are still any available or not, but it's a mile from the Theatre and actually a nice walk.

Try giving the hotels a call.  I too kept getting blocked out of every hotel.  I didn't try the UGA hotel.  I finally called one and asked why everything was blocked out. The lady asked what I was coming into town for so I said to see a concert.  She then told me they had a room for me.  I've never known hotels to screen like that before.

It's a straight one mile walk from the UGA conference center to the Theatre. The walk to the theatre would be more uphill, but wouldn't be a bad walk back after drinking and the high you'll be on after the show.  Athens has Uber so definitely don't drink and drive while in town. MOST of my friends had DUIs while living there, but I guess that may just reflect the people I hung out with...

I have posters for all the shows I've gone to, except T5 and those OBH variants.  I know Port Chester and Red Rocks were killer concerts but if I started collecting shows I didn't attend then I'd never stop!  I've had numerous offers to buy them, but really just looking to trade. Good luck!

Haven't seen a Jacket show since Verizon 2012. Needless to say I'm super stoked to see a show in general, but my hometown and GATH just makes it that much better.  Caught many good shows over the last 10 years, but still chasing a few songs. So here are my requests.....

Hey all! I know it's pretty early but @michaelsatterfield and I live in Athens and would love to host a meet up for anyone from the forum who is going to be in town Friday that may want to attend.

We've lived in Athens for almost 5 years together so we want our little town to be represented well for all you incredible, like minded souls that are traveling from near and far. We're still in shock the very first stop of the tour is in Athens!

Goldenyim,
The show is Friday night.  I'm coming in that afternoon from NC and will head downtown to grab a few before the show.  Any good new bars you recommend?  I went to school at UGA in the 90's and haven't been back much in the last few years.
Thanks

You're totally right. We're going to Knoxville Saturday and I keep getting them swapped, ha.

Thanks for the correction, Spence. Maybe a better place to have a meetup would be Creature Comforts, then we could head to Ted's for pizza, and walk to Theatre.

I didn't realize Creature Comforts was downtown.  That's sweet, I wanted to grab some of their Tropicalia IPA!  I just read about it in a best beers of US article and we can't get it in NC that I know of.  I'm going to stop by there for sure.

I don't live in Athens anymore, but I'll use any excuse I can to make it back to town. All the bars that goldenyim listed would be perfect for a meet up for the non college student crowd. I finally made it to Creature Comforts a while back and it's awesome! Tropicalia is the best IPA in the state (sorry Sweetwater and Terrapin). The Terrapin Brewery is great too and I always felt like they give better pours, but it's not within walking distance of downtown. CreatureComforts started delivering to ATL this week so buy some if you see it!

I've been out of Athens a few years as well and heard nothing but good stuff about Creature Comforts.  It's awesome there is a brewery downtown now, but Terrapin will always have my heart & taste buds!

We'll be pretty haggard by the time we get to Athens.  They announced the Tame Impala tour shortly after MMJ announced theirs and they happen to be playing in Milwaukee the night before Athens..  So it will be some good old fashioned night driving, sleeping shifts, and gas station meals as we make our way down from Wisconsin with no time to spare.

Jacket and Tame are doing more than one of the same festivals this summer.  Fingers crossed that JJ and KP meet and decide to do a side project together (would be a little strange given the age difference but how sweet could that pairing be?).

Not exactly sure how age factors in... Art is timeless brother!
Plus, they're only 7 years apart anyway. Would make for an awesome pairing though.

Well, looks like I'm about to pull the trigger on a couple GATH tix online.  I couldn't be more suspect about getting pdf tickets for this show...  100% money back guarantee is fine and well, but I don't want my money back.  I want in the show!
I did get both nights at the Fox and the tickets are will call (presumably through Fox's box office ticketing?).
I know GATH used ticketfly.  Were/are the tickets will call or pdf for Athens?
Also, what time does everyone expect line to form outside for entry on night of show (5/15)?

Thanks!

The Athens tickets I bought in the general sale are PDF's and were sent via email immediately after completing the order. They have my name on them, but I think they will just scan the bar code at the door. I'm pretty sure the name could be easily edited with an image or PDF editor if needed.

Every non-festival show should have early entry, it's just a matter of how well the venue facilitates it.

Just a heads up for those looking for rooms...I just booked a room at the Holiday Inn a block over from the Theatre. It wasn't cheap at $180 something after taxes, but it was the closest and really the best option for what's currently available.

So.....just to confirm...this appears to be "an evening with" setup?  No opener listed on MMJ's page or on the venue itself.

Should we expect the album in full?  The anticipation is incredible for this show.

Personally I very much hope that this show and others on this tour are 8 or so new songs intermingled through the set rather than playing the album in full.

I like full album shows for a band revisiting an album after a long time. I don't think it works as well for a band playing something they just released as a full album.
Title: Re: Roll Call for Athens, GA - The Georgia Theater

However, if it is an evening with type of setup, they could run through the new joint in a hour, followed by a 15 song second set/encore.

I would love to hear the whole new album in full while its still fresh!  And I can't think of a better setup, than giving us, the faithful, the best of both worlds to jump start this tour!

Usually I would feel the same, but this album just sounds best to me when played start to finish.  I'm not sure why.  I can't even tell you the song order for most albums but this one feels like a story.   I'm not expecting them to play the whole thing but I'd love it!

I'm with you on this Whippy.    The best album shows I've seen were all revisited after a long time. T5, Bruce, Steely Dan were all fantastic shows hearing albums I've been listening to for years.

I wouldn't mind hearing the whole new album over the three Chicago shows but I don't think hearing it straight through early on in the tour works well for any band or new album.

I really enjoyed hearing the band play the entire album back in early April,  but I'm also really interested in seeing how these songs blend in with the others in their catalogue. Mostly I'm looking forward to a great weekend with my friends and a return to MMJ live shows. The fact that they are "an evening with"  is just a great big cherry on top of that sundae!  I haven't seen Whippy in a year,  Jaye since 2012, about a year since I've seen Crispy,  and two years since I danced in the rain with ms evonne. Those are just a few of you,  but I can't wait!

I really enjoyed hearing the band play the entire album back in early April,  but I'm also really interested in seeing how these songs blend in with the others in their catalogue. It's almost here!

I went to the Georgia Theater last night for Gimme Hendrix and Zoso (Jimi and Zeppelin cover bands) and I asked the staff if they've received any information about the MMJ show yet. Everyone I asked had ZERO information. I was told that they probably won't have any info until the day before the show... I'm really pushing positive vibes and hoping that Roll Call entry/early entry actually happens, fingers crossed

I'm about 90% sure I'll have an extra ticket for face value the night of the show, if people are still looking.

The other day during theblistening party q+a i asked them if they have considered playing the album front to back in its entirety live and his response was something like "we did it recently for two shows and it felt good, will prob do it again"

It may not be too crazy to think that this first show and maybe knoxville are going to feature the waterfall, intermission, and then an assortment of previously released stuff.  I would be all for that personally.  What do you guys think?

I think he's probably talking about the KCRW LA show, and I doubt they'd do it like that on tour. Unless it was part of a T5 type run or announced ahead of time as an album show. JMHO.

Personally I'm not into new albums being played in their entirety early on in a tour. A few years down the road, yes, but not while it's still new. I think I have a greater appreciation for most albums over time, and it would seem much more special to me to hear this down the road than on the first leg of the tour.

Much respect Eric but, Ash and Knox aren't typical first leg type shows IMO.  They are kick off the tour shows for the faithful.  They are billed as evening with and no openers.

And I gotta say I have a severe thirst for the Waterfall, I really cannot stop listening. This album already resides within my bones and I need it now, live and from top to bottom.  Also gotta remember they are heavily touring the south later in July and August so there is plenty of time for a typical set.

I believe cause nobody knows for sure!

That's cool. To each their own. I understand you, and others would love to hear the whole album, and that's fine. It just wouldn't be my preference so soon after it's release. I'd much rather some strategic placement of some of the tunes to fit perfectly into their live show, and down the road when this album has really cemented it's place, get treated to "an album show" ala T5.  For me a big part of how great that run was, was because of the uniqueness of it, and how special all those albums had become to me over the years.

I've caught many album shows by several different artists over the years. All of them years after their release, and the specialness of those nights will never be forgotten. I don't think I would feel the same way with a just released album because no matter how much I like it, it hasn't hit that "classic" sweet spot of being a part of the soundtrack of my life yet. But again, that's just my preference.

For your sake, I hope you get it but even if you don't, I think you'll get a heavy dose of it.  Either way, "an evening with" are going to be some special nights.

Enjoy your shows.

Hey guys, I am desperately looking for one ticket (maybe two) for the Athens Show.  I just can't afford the insanely high prices the crazy folks out there are charging for tickets.  I tried both the Pre-Sale and Public Sale for the tickets and somehow failed miserably.  I have been trying ever since and have only been able to find them for $175-$350.  If someone has a ticket (two if available) please let me know.  I would be willing to buy beer/cocktails.  I live in Athens, so I may also be willing to provide an overnight stay at my place if you are coming from out of town and need somewhere to crash.

Thank you!!!

How's that work logistically?  Specifically, speaking to (hopefully) early entry.  Is there an exterior means of egress from roof to street - entry line?  Do they flush everyone from the rooftop before doors open?
I've been wanting to check it out...
Thanks!

There is an elevator only entrance from the street directly to the rooftop.  They stop letting people on the roof after a certain point so its pretty well controlled.  You can also access the roof from the theater.

I will see you guys at Nowhere before the show!

Make sure you get up to that rooftop area line. I've had some touchy situations where they're letting both doors in at the same time.

I thought this was already posted here - in case you haven't seen it:

Early entry:

May 15 - Athens, GA - Georgia Theatre
Box Office Hours: 2pm
Arrival for First Entry (30 Mins before doors): 7:30pm
Early Entry Door Time (15 Mins before doors): 7:45pm
Public Door Time: 8:00pm
Show Time: 9:00pm
Roll Call Location: Side door by the elevator. Roll Call members should line up at the doors on the right if you are looking at the front of the building. The line will go toward Washington St. (in front of Branded Butcher).

^That last little description is kind of strange, the side door by the elevator is on the left if you are looking at the Theatre, and the line would go down Clayton towards the Waffle House...exact opposite of what that says

Yeah, those two conflicting statements aren't confusing at all. I'm sure we'll still be sorting it out with the folks working at the venue at early entry time. However, it's comforting to know some things never change!

I'd say if they haven't offered up the opportunity to purchase a Sound check ticket by now there's not going to be one.

Looks like only early entry for this show.

I had this same problem, luckily we purchased tickets through the GILT promotion too.  I contacted stub hub and was told the seller did not send the tickets that they could get me different ones or a refund so I took the refund.  The other issue is the Venue's website says they do not accept Stub Hub tix, so Glad I got a the GILT tix!

I too had the same-ish problem with stubhub...  Twas several weeks ago.  I suspected I may have purchased tickets from a seller who had listed the tickets on spec - thinking he (or she...) would be able to secure tickets after my actual purchase.  Tickets were not in fact available for download after receiving an email from stubhub advising they were available for download.  I freaked a little.
Long story short, chatted with customer service and explained in no uncertain terms that while a money back guarantee is swell, I don't want the money back.  I want in the show.  If that is going to be a problem let's get this straight now and I'll make other arrangements.
Stubhub rep explained that she noted my account that "tickets are the priority".  The next day my tickets were available for download.
Side note: The tickets are seemingly direct unaltered pdf files from ticketfly (I compared to past ticketfly pdfs I purchased directly).  No indication they were purchased from stubhub.  That is to say, I'm not sure how any venue would know I purchased the tickets on stubhub as opposed to...  say...  I received the tickets from My sister in law as a gift.
This is my bubble.  Please handle with care so as not to burst.

Are any roll-callers with early entry going solo?  I hope this isn't wrong to ask, but since my digital membership doesn't get me early entry I was wondering if some kind soul would let me sneak in a few early with them as their guest.  I'll be taping the show with a buddy and would like to get a balcony spot secured to set up gear before the masses pile in.  I will be getting in line fairly early either way. Thanks in advance!

You can come in with me.

Looks like apartment management either lost my Roll Call stuff, or USPS has it for some reason...I've got to call a post office I guess, but the tracking number doesn't give me any info and the status on the MMJ site said it was shipped a while back- I got no notice from my apt's office though

been a long week, I'm just ready for this show

Yeah, same here.

I'm really going to try and do the three night run in SF but it's too far down the road to commit for me right now. I'm usually swamped around that time of year but I'm hoping, and trying to make it work.

If not those shows maybe we'll get together at one or more of the rumored November shows.

Halp! I would really love to put myself and the hubs on this list of attendees, but we had no luck with the presale or regular sale tix.
Please please let me know if anyone has 2 extras.
I sold two tix to the "prom" at the 40 watt years ago, for face value and am hoping for some amazing karmic return.

Most shows at the GATH end around midnight and they keep the bar open til 2. I wouldn't be surprised if they went over tomorrow night... Make a statement to kick off the world tour!

Show was shorter than I had hoped, but the intensity was high. Crowd was really digging it for the whole set.

I think the new songs sounded fabulous.

Need to listen to the recording and reflect a little on the show. But off the cuff:

Set length: C
Set list: B
Performance: A
Crowd response: A+
Jamminess: B
Song transitions: A

Excellent show. Definitely a top 3 for me and my first tour opener. Regarding Jim's appearance on stage, he is definitely holding back a little. I suspect he is wearing a back brace (his movement is somewhat restricted). But lots of love to him for pushing through pain to bring us this fine set.

Having suffered back issues myself, there really isn't much that can be done. A back brace is a good tool to prevent further injury. And standing upright with good posture for a few hours is actually more therapeutic than sitting down. The only long term solution is either surgery (which can be hit or miss), spinal decompression therapy, or building new core strength (which worked for me but not for everyone). I hope Jim is looking into options 2 and 3 for a more permanent solution.

Enough rambling. Great show and I can't wait for the multi night runs!

Though Jim might be a little less all over the stage, there is no lack of energy and focus from everyone in the group. They've never sounded better and the new songs are so good live.

After sleeping on it, I am ready to say that Spring is my favorite new live track. You'll hear the song completely differently than the album version.

Really lucky to have seen them in such a small space.

Thanks for the taping. That jam at the end of IWSYS was really cool. Hope they'll keep a rotation of around 3-4 different gems in there every night (like Heartbreakin, Knot, IWSSYS and Phone here).

The extended jam after IWSYS was infuckingsane!!! This was not a short show. It was a very complete show. I really liked how these Waterfall songs fit in with the older ones. Great show.

Might need to refresh a few times, the files are updating to the media player.

Made my day with this, sounds fantastic. Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the work you tapers put into spreading the goods.
Tapers are heroes <3 thank you!!!!! :cheesy:

Yes! I've already got it loaded to my Pono Music Player and will be jamming to it on my way down to Knoxville for tonight's show! Thanks again, and again, and again! Please do this for tonight's show too (if you're going). I absolutely love having a good recording of shows I attend.

No Knoxville for me unfortunately. Last night might be my only MMJ show for the year unless I catch the Charlotte show.

Listening to the tape now as I get ready to leave for the woods in East TN.

We are staying near the Waterfalls. About an hour from the show.

I am surprised by the shortness of the set, but the song selection is great, they sound amazing, & we will probably have a slightly different song selection tonight.

We don't have the best seats, but I imagine it will be friendly & beautiful everywhere.

If slightly shorter sets helps Jim get thru this whole tour then that's a good thing.  Hang in there Jim!

The set is the same, but with the waterfall logo on Patrick's drum set. The lighting was cool and much better than before. It'll be a lot easier to get good pictures.

I still haven't seen one either.

And wow!  My recording nearly hit 1,000 downloads in a day.  Never had one get that many in a day before!  Glad it turned out good!

I thought the same thing when I seen it. The t-shirts weren't much better which is frustrating because this is the best band in the world and yet their t-shirts are slime. I would love to own a lot of them if the designs were good, but to me the shirt designs are just simple and boring. The Knoxville poster was good though.

Actually the Tshirts were an improvement. I've christened that poster as The Fortress of Solitude for obvious reasons. I had hoped for a more badass poster for the first show,  but what are you going to do about it ::)

I had a GREAT time at the show last Friday ( I was hoping for 3 or so more songs, but I'm greedy!) We got great rail spots behind VIP where it turns out that Patterson Hood of DBT would stand right in front us. His hat is just about every pic I took.  I thought the new songs sounded great and I was eager to hear them play them live, moreso then when EU and Circuital came out.   The poster was the most disappointing aspect of the evening, although I did buy one and would buy whatever they printed. I'm just a big fan of the art that Justin from Status Serigraph produces (the Knoxville poster is dope!!) and I thought the shirts looked good.  The waterfall/mountain/mushroom? is a pretty sweet shirt in my opinion.  Jim did look a little more subdued than normal, but both he and the band sounded right on point. Imagine how good the new album will sound by the time they play the Fox in August.  The encore of Tropics>Spring>PWW>OBH was by far the high point for me. Tropics was on another level and I can't wait to hear it again. Hearing OBH start is so bittersweet knowing its all about to be over, so  it's good to see they aren't going to  close with it every single show this tour.  The Ga Theatre and the city of Athens never disappoints! I hope it's not 8 years until they play there again...

Pretty sure the entire Drive By Truckers band was in the VIP booth.  Spoke briefly with the bassist before the show and they mentioned flying out to Hangout fest after the show was over.
