QuoteI dont know if this counts as a movie but I just finished season 3 of Deadwood.  WOW!  That's the best written television series I ever saw, not really from a plot perspective but the language is sooo rich.  I had to watch it with the subtitles on to catch the wordplay, it's really a fantastic experience.

And then once I was culturally enriched I had to go see Transformers, of course.

if you liked Deadwood you'll love John from Cincinnati.....

I think Deadwood is the best western ever filmed, movie or television series. Milch is a genius. We'll see if he can duplicate Deadwood's genius with his "surfing" series John From Cincinnati. I like JFC and I hope it lasts, but I also want closure to Deadwood, like the proposed two HBO features that are supposed to be shot soon... cocksuckers.

I've heard mixed review of John from Cincinnati but I haven't seen an episode yet so I'm reserving my judgement.  I really do want to like it, Milch is such a fantastic writer, but there's been a huge amount of negative review for JFC that Ive read so far... ah well.

On this last DVD set Jaimoe, Milch said on a commentary that the political themes they got too right when the story ended were gonna be explored in a Deadwood Movie!  But, who knows when and if..keeping my finegrs crossed definately.

And I was as big a fan of the Prestige as I was of the book, really worth a read, almost two completely different beasts.

I've read a lot of good reviews of John From Cincinnati. A lot of the negative stuff comes from fanboys still holding a grudge against Milch for ending Deadwood. I think this is a series you'll either love (and I'm loving it) or hate (since it is strange and confusing). One great thing is that half the supporting cast were in Deadwood.

By the by, Milch signed to do two, two-hour Deadwood movies to complete the series.

HOT FUZZ - excellent (jog on!)

300 - complete & utter crap  :(

Children Of Men - not an 'enjoyable' movie but very good. Like TK said, Michael Caine was excellent.

The Break Up - good performances by Vince Vaughan & Jenifer but I found it really uncomfortable viewing, like being caught in the middle of argument with no way of escaping.

Zodiac - David Fincher's best since Se7en IMO.
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I think The Break Up hit all the right notes with the topic at hand. I liked that the film didn't go for light-hearted laughs and the Hollywood ending. It's a film about two people that have drifted apart and how friends get dragged into the fray whether they like it or not. It's a funny film, but sad and uncompromising too.

I read somewhere that Sam Jackson based his character on RL. Not sure if that's true...

I could definitely see that.

I just watched "Snatch" last night--this has got to be Guy Ritchies best film yet...the squeaking dog was a riot!
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

Saw HP and The Order Of The Phoenix. Big fan of the big, big fan of the movie. I enjoyed it. It doesn't bother me that there are certain cuts/changes in the movies from the books. I'm able to enjoy both for different reasons.

thanks for that!  i can't wait for this movie.  david cross and cate blanchett are a little unsettlin in their roles, but it may be different in the context of the film.  I thought the dialouge was fantastic though.

Did you read the review? It has numerous people playing dylan
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

I was really uneasy about the movie for a while, but the concept has really grown on me.  I'm not too keen on what's shown of David Cross there, but I like what Cate Blanchett's done in the role (judging from that short clip).

I'm more excited for the soundtrack with The Hold Steady, Jim James (and the rest of the gang???) and Stephen Malkmus, etc. covering Dylan.

i don't like to read movie reviews, but i heard there were multiple actors playing dylan. sounds like an interesting concept.  the director / writer seems pretty good and it's named after a rare, but very good dylan tune (i'm not there is an outtake from the mostly lost basement tape years)  that's worth the price of admission right there.

someone said jim and the boys are doing Goin to Acapulco on the soundtrack.  I would LOVE to hear that.  I would also LOVE to hear him do a cover i'm not there, too.  i told him he's about two more dylan tunes away from having an album of dylan covers.  maybe he should do a double album.  Jim Covers George Harrison and Bob Dylan. ;D

Vacuuming Completely Nude In Paradise (or something like that) - rubbish, couldn't finish watching it. Directed by hit-or-miss Danny Boyle & staring Timothy Spall (one of my fav British actors) this was one was definitely a miss. Avoid at all costs!
