10 miles today. Just because I can I guess. I almost regret it now as I've eaten my second born child's body weight in food and I'm still hungry. Lets see...26 miles this week. I'm not even training for anything yet. That doesn't officially start until June.

QuoteI just finished my first triathlon today.  It was so much fun! I'm thinking I'd like to start doing these on a regular basis. That being said, does anyone have any recs for ladies road bikes which are a good fit for novices?  I'd prefer to spend under a $1000 if at all possible.  I borrowed a friend's bike today which was essentially a beach cruiser.  It was hilarious.  It goes without saying that I didn't break any speed records.   Many thanks! :)

Congrats!  I only mountain bike so I don't know much about road bikes, but I can ask for some opinions from my teammates.  I will see what I can find out for you for a good ladies road bike for less than $1K.

Speaking of all of this, my first MTB race of the season is in less than two weeks in Columbia, TN.  I think that I'm in decent shape considering how early in the year it is.

Oh, by the way, I've never ridden this course before. :-/

Just got back from a nice 4 mile run. It is so beautiful out. It was a "Z" running day. I'm kicking around the idea of doing the 1/2 Boulder Marathon in September. I'd like to do a 10K sometime in between tho. I figure if I post it, my word will keep me serious about it. So there it is.

Nice work, Jen!  Training for events will definitely keep you motivated.  I would imagine that you're never too far from a 3/5/10K event in Boulder.  You should see what you can find and put it on a calander.  That seems to work for me...

Hey armadison, I checked with our team captain, who rides mostly road (he had 7,000 outdoor miles last year) and he suggested a Trek 1.1 WSD, 1.2 WSD , or 1.5 WSD (women's specific design).  Here is a link for comparison:

The pricing shown is retail, so you should be able to find them a little cheaper than the MSRP.  Also, you should be able to get bargains on overstock 2009 bikes right now.  I bought a 2008 Specialized mountain bike in 2009 and got a sweet deal.

or you could work at doing a full in early October? I think Penny might  be coming to Stl run it with me.

i'm still planning on doing St. Louis (tentative plan)..need to get my a** in shape, though..i'm scared of running a full one in Boulder w/the altitude but maybe i could do the half (slowly)...

I read that it's impossible to lose weight & gain muscle at the same time so I stopped working out for a few months. I weighed in at my thinnest in years today so I think it might be time to pick the dumbells up again...beefcake, beefcake!!!

God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

mjkoehler

Well muscle weighs more then fat so yeah, if you are toning up your weight may not drop but your BMI would improve

dragonboy

What's that? My Bad-Muthaf*cka-Index, right?  ;)

Exactly! Who's gonna fuck wit a lean, mean, cut, jacked, ripped, and shreeeeeeeeeeeeeded mutha.

I guess BMI is a US thing? Body Mass Index. Granted it's a piece of crap indicator. According to it, I'm "overweight" at 185 lbs and 5'8". Seriously, I would need to weight 160 lbs to be classified as Normal. Fuck that. I'd be crackwhore thin.

Hawkeye

Yeah, I'm like 5'10" or so and 185...and I'm still overweight according to the BMI.  I think I'm just going to go by the "BGF," or beer gut factor.  Unfortunately, I may need to actually cut back on the beer to lose the beer gut.  Go figure.
We could.

ophidiophobia

I went running for the first time in ages today. I been trying to lose some weight, and today I went for a jog. Hopefully going for runs will let me eat a little more.

Since Friday, I've run close to 30 miles. Someone tell me why? Hell I was even up at 5am on Saturday running. I think I'm hopelessly addicted.

Does anyone on here know much about average and max heart rates?  I had a mountain bike race on Sunday and averaged 183 bpm for 67 minutes with a max of 201 bpm.  My resting heart rate from a physical a couple of weeks ago was 56 bpm.
Should I be concerned about this?  I would assume that if I was over doing it my body would have some sort of fail safe indicator (like passing out, maybe).  The only thing that I notice when I am pushing is that I do get a slight light-headed, disoriented feeling, but nothing major.

that's high but i think you're okay -- i would monitor anything above that...you're just in really good shape if you can function at that level, find your Max HR and then try to stay about 85% of that...(220-age) if you don't have any heart prob history, not sure you should be concerned; but if you're getting light headed, might be your body telling you to slow down though...

I think you're fine. When i run the elliptical, my running bpm is about the same as yours. as long as you are not holding at 200+ for long periods you should be ok.

jones

The 200+ bpm was in a sprint at the end of the race; trust me, I couldn't keep that up for long.  My training average and max bpm is currently about 10 less.  After doing more research online, it seems to be pretty common for a 32 year old to have a max over 200.

I hiked my Hennifer Lopez arse off today. I just have to stay consistent. I'm sure I'll be sore, but I must run after work tomorrow. Must. Run.
