Saw 'Somers Town' by Shane Meadows last Friday night.

Very good and very funny in places.

I watched Donnie Darko last night for the first time in a couple years.  As many times as I've seen that movie, I never realized that Seth Rogan was in it.

Nice. We really need our own Dragonboy back to lead the charge on Shane Meadows. He got me hooked. I think he got a few others.

Is it in B/W? I thought I read somewhere that it was. It's the one with the kid for This is England, isn't it?

TheBigChicken

There Will Be Blood..Daniel Day Lewis. This guy never ceases to amaze me.

QuoteIm also looking forward to The Wrestler. I like everyone involved in it (Rourke, Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, and especially Aronofsky).

I saw "Traitor" over the weekend, thought it was pretty good. Characters are better than the story. They gave too much away in the previews, IMO, so any kind of jolt or surprise was completely negated. Don Cheadle was excellent (is he ever not?) as was Guy Pierce, who played an unexpectedly interesting FBI agent. Maybe this will finally be the movie that gets Pierce the respect he deserves in America.
did you check out first snow? im a huge guy fan

LEATHER KID

Baby Mama......Amy Poehler had some funny lines.
IT'S ALL FUCKIN' CHEESE!!

Ed Wood--great campy stuff.  Think I'll rent all his movies now (it is getting close to Halloween)

Cape Fear (1962) - I haven't seen this film in almost 20 years and it still stand up well. I like it better than the remake basically because Robert Mitchum would bitch-slap De Niro's version of Max Cady.

has anyone seen burn after reading yet? i am dying to see this one!
all facts begin as dreams dreamt by the wizard

The film had a gala premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this week (the fest wraps up this Sunday) where it received rave reviews. I think most of the gang, from Brad Pitt, Malkovich, Tilda Swinton and the Cohens are still here. Today's Toronto Star gave it *** out of ****. I can't wait to see it.

Robert Mitchum rules.  He is the coolest actor ever in my book--hands down.

Mitchum, James Stewart, Beat Takeshi and the god of B-flicks Bruce Campbell.

Battle Royale is a fucking masterpiece and Beat is good as a villian. But he's just as cool or cooler in Hanai Bi (Fireworks), Violent Cop, Sonatine, Zatoichi, Gonin and Boiling Point. Hell, he's always great and/or challenging ain't he?

I just watched The Thin Red Line last night too (strange). I liked it, but I have to say its my least favorite war film in my collection - Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, The Deer Hunter, Saving Private Ryan.
Never seen The Fall.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Saving Private Ryan = Clay Aiken

The Thin Red Line = Explosions In The Sky

I know Spielberg is over-rated but you can't possibly say its not a good movie.

I saw both in the theatre when they were originally released and I gotta say that Ryan is a more thrilling (in a scary way) film than The Thin Red Line even though it is far more contrived. I like Terrence Malick though, and The Thin Red Line is one of his better films especially after a 20-year absence from directing.

Spielberg is not over-rated either. His style and bias gets in the way of the stories he tells sometimes, but if I was a producer doing a big-budget film, he'd be the first director I'd call. And I think Spielberg bettered Ryan and arguably Schindler's List with Band of Brothers, albeit in a writer and producer role.
