ticket buying was an absolute cluster fuck!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad I was paying attention when I bought mine, I almost ended up with the payment plan.  Also, was the tier 2 tickets actually the tier 1 tickets, since the presale happened?  I'm pretty sure I got the cheapest tickets, but they were labeled as tier 2.  I bought them right at noon.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

I was busy right at 12, went on at like 12:30, saw the $58 weekend passes and got so excited I bought them! Then I saw they said payment plan!

Wasted 45 minutes on the phone with ticketmaster waiting to see if I could get the $120 refunded for the 2 tickets before I went and bought the right ones. Got in on the last second of tier 2 before the guy came back to tell me about my refund. Had a million issues with the site while trying to get in tier 3, never got them, and then finally got things working properly on the site and bought 2 tickets in tier 4!! Fuck fuck fuckity fuck....

at least I'll get credit for the payment plan. what bullshit though, That payment plan is 4 payments of $60 so your ticket is $240 if you can't shell out the $140-$198 all at once. At it wasn't very clear that I was purchasing a payment plan!!

one more thing to HATE about ticketmaster....

I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to have a MMJ fest.  They represent what Louisville is and everyone in Louisville wants to see the Jacket.  Not to mention they had a huge hand in getting Forecastle to where it is.   If you look at the comments on Forecastle's facebook there are comments from so many people begging and pleading.  Oh well... In a perfect world somebody would have an MMJ fest.

This comment is just 100% ignorant. My Morning Jacket does not represent the Louisville music scene in any way shape or form, other than the fact that they're famous and from Louisville. If you wanna see a band that represents the Louisville music scene, go see Slint at Forecastle, and be thankful you get to see that. My Morning Jacket did not play a huge hand in getting Forecastle to where it is. JK McKnight played a huge role in getting Forecastle to where it is, via a decade of hard work and dedication, which he payed back ten-fold with blood, sweat, tears, not to mention all of his money. I'm offended for him by your comment, and I don't even know the guy.

I was wrong about them playing a part in bringing Forecastle to where it is today.  However if you think Slint is a good band, wow...  Just wow... And had you heard John Timmons on the World Cafe the other day, he agrees with me on my statements about them best representing Louisville.

That's a mighty fine-lookin' roll call so far!

Just spent my Friday evening drinking Jack and exploring the depths of this lineup. I have concluded this roster is insanely stacked. I want to see 80% of these acts. Way too pumped right now. Well done, Forecastle. Very well done.

I agree with you, O. The only problem I'm going to have is deciding which bands I'm not going to see. I don't know if you've been to Forecastle before, but the grounds are much easier to move back and forth. It's easy to move from one stage to another to catch partial sets without feeling like you are wasting time traveling between stages. I think you are going to like this Fest.

LBSUNFLWR

I am really coming around on some of the smaller acts that I like and will want to see. I decided it was definitely worth it to go...though I am still really not a fan of any of the headliners. Hoping to enjoy their sets though!

I LOVE Forecastle! I've only been once -- the MMJ year -- but the fest completely sold me. It's the only festival I've ever been to that I could describe as "cozy". All the overcrowding and overheating so prevalent at other festivals are completely absent. Not to mention awesome scheduling and a layout that makes SENSE. Can't wait to get back to Louisville! We will have to get some forum meet-ups going for sure. Rail crew for Spanish Gold?!?

Absolutely! And don't forget the Bourbon Lodge! That's a great place to meet up too!

Well I didn't claim Slint was a good band (they are, but that's neither here nor there.) What I said was that Slint is a better representation of the Louisville music scene, historically. We have always had a much heavier post-rock, punk, hardcore scene than we have had any sort of indie, jam, rock and roll scene.

Hell Jim James got his start playing with bands that align much more closely to Slint than to what MMJ would eventually become.

For the record, I don't think Slint is better than MMJ. If I did think that, I would probably be posting this on a Slint board.

I don't know about who or what band or music style best represents the big city of Louisville, but I am mighty proud of My Morning Jacket representing the state I live in...Kentucky. Nobody can take that away from me! After all, they did record much of their earlier music in rural Kentucky on the family farm. I'm from rural Kentucky and still live in a rural part of the state (commute to Louisville for work, like so many others do these days). (My grandfather had a farm in Christian County for most of my youth, and I talked my uncle into cutting out a very small piece of it for me before he sold it all off several years ago.) The Folk aspect of MMJ's music (mostly from the outside projects Jim has done with others, including with Elizabethtown native Daniel Martin Moore and Ben Sollee who constantly cites his Appalachian roots in Eastern Kentucky) is a much better representation of what I would want others to know about Kentucky. About a month ago, I went on a school field trip with the 4th and 5th graders to see a play at The Kentucky Center. After the play, we went into a small theatre on the first floor to see a short 30 minute documentary about our state called, Kentucky Show! I have included 2 short promo clips from YouTube. The documentary is about the whole state and included a segment on music that has come out of the state. They mentioned many of the acts/talents you would expect like, Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Loretta Lynne, and Jean Ritchie, and I was a little worried they wouldn't include MMJ when it looked like they were about done with the music segment. But then...there they were...in all their LIVE GLORY! My Morning Jacket were in a documentary on our state...KENTUCKY!!! They do represent the state. I know. I saw it in a documentary about the place! Go see Kentucky Show! If you are from the state, you will feel very proud. If you are a My Morning Jacket fan, the pride will be doubled!

Edit: I almost forgot Jim's (and the band's) connection to John Prine. John Prine has stated in interviews how influential his childhood visits down to his grandparent's home in Muhlenberg County were for his song writing. His song, Paradise, is about the county I'm from, Muhlenberg County, and how the coal mines had hauled away the tiny community of Paradise, so they could take it over and TVA could be built there.

Everything you say is absolutely true. However, I was talking about a city, not a state.

I was arguing that Forecastle =/= MMJ fest, and there are reasons for that. That other guy flappin his jaw about MMJ being responsible for Forecastle's success and representing Louisville's music scene was just silly. I don't know if AJ's from Louisville, but if he is, he should be ashamed of how closeted his idea of music from his hometown is. Or, to go back to your point, White, MMJ is much less of a representation of what KY's music is than say DMM. MMJ is absolutely more famous, and my favorite band ever, but that doesn't mean that they have to be (or are) the poster boy for an entire cities music scene.

Haha whatever, man.  You win.  Congrats to you, E-Wind for knowing everything and roasting on people for having an opinion.  I stated that I was wrong about the whole forecastle thing, people make mistakes and get mislead every once in a while.

Great article! Gives new meaning to the term "stoned soul". I'm a huge fan and I haven't seen Sharon and the Dap Kings since the night I made out with her a few years ago! (Okay, maybe made out is not the right word, but I was waiting to meet her and the band after a show, and I guess I made an impression after talking to her for a few minutes, and as I was saying goodbye, she leaned right in and I got a full out kiss on da lips and embrace from the Queen of Soul herself!)

This set is going to be such a feelgood dance party. No one is tighter than the Dap Kings. Can't wait!

She is very friendly and warm on AND off stage.  All I got was a peck on the cheek. :undecided:

Were you the guy who got pulled on stage a couple of years ago and posted about it here?  I couldn't find a SJ&TDK thread, or I'd have put the article there.
