It's not like the band is growing wildly more popular and therefore attracting a bigger, less respectful crowd (or do you think so?).

yes, as the fanbase widens, so does the no of 'non music fan' fans, catch 22 of watching your favorite band gain more exposure

For sure I understand the impact of a bigger fanbase... what I was saying is that I don't see why the fanbase would have grown since last tour.   Are you saying that you think the fanbase has widened?

I guess MMJ goodness just can't stop from spreading?!

My Monkey Friend

Like many of you, I have been on this band for a very long time and have seen them in tiny venues all the way up to the big ones. It dawned on my a jazzfest how the mmj fanbase seems to slowly but surely grow in size year after year. yes, there seems to be a few more douchers. but as a polo wearing frat asshole in his early thirties, i think the crowd is more into it than ever. but we love this band because they can tear the house down one minute, then slow it down pedal steel style the next. that being said, it is unreasonable to expect a small venue "golden" style vibe throughout the show when OBH is ripping the roof off.

i hate to say it- but it is a rock show. to call a group of people out for being drunk and stupid seems a bit harsh. i suppose they could call you out for being quiet and boring. bottomo line- deal with it. its MMJ, enjoy them while we can.

There is a thin line between "having fun in your own way" and being completely rude and obnoxious.  Being piss ass drunk and using your even drunker friend as a battering ram to try to get to the front is the second... Talking during the entire show SCREAMING over the music to try and talk about nonsense not at all related to the artists performing right in front of you is also the second. Its okay to talk, its okay to scream things like "this is the greatest fucking thing I have ever seen"

but you have to be aware that some people are watching this show in a way different from you and they worked hard, planned, and got to the show early to get a good spot.  For you to come last minute, then spend all your time and money buying beers and getting fucked up then rudely forcing your way through the crowd to get a better spot then everyone else just so you can dick around with your friend is inexcusable in my opinion
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

^^^I'm embarrased to say that (if memory serves) this was at a Portland show, though I wasn't there. :-[  At the Crystal Ballroom where JJ becomes transfixed by the chandeliers.

EDIT: I mean the Tweedy rant.

I 1000% agree with you.  What the hell is there to talk about when your at a show. Besides telling the person next to you how awsome it is to be there.  At a show all you need to do it turn to your friends around you and make rock and roll gestures or nod your head showing that the music has you on the same wave length. I mean seriously your there to listen and enjoy the music.  I think it's so rude.  I just saw Wilco in Scranton a few weeks back.  Tweedy called out some guy who was actually talking on his phone during the show.  Going to a show is not the same thing as going to a bar or a sporting event.  SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! it's not a social event!! if thats what your there for go to the back of the room.  Let the real fans enjoy what we came to hear and see.

Also you can take your glow sticks and shove where the sun doesn"t shine!!!  MMJ or any band for that matter are not zoo animals or a freak show..you dont need to throw things at them to make sure they are real or to get a rise out of them.  That is sooooo disrespectful to the band and the entire point of them being out there on stage.

If your there for the lot seen and be amazed at all the pretty glow sticks in the air...stay in the lot or go to a biscuts show!!!!!!!!

RANT OVER,,,i truely hope that the people at MPP are not like this

Well said.  Though I have noticed that the last few concerts I have been to a well put "SHUT THE FUCK UP' to the talkers has put them in their place and they basically left the area where I was standing.

I'm surrounded by assholes

Hypno+Raygun

You know it has been several days since the show.. But I can not stress how I was thinking along the same lines as the people who were fed up. I was "posting this" in my mind a few times while standing up front. I was just right of center, and about 14 feet back.

Most people have said what I was thinking, and plus I have calmed down a BIT, but I have to say, this was a pretty bad crowd. And of course, I'm not talking about everyone, and I'm not talking to the well behaved people, blah blah blah.. you know who I mean.

People threw Glow sticks at Jim James' face!!?!? I couldn't believe it.. He is way too cool about it all..

I was repeatedly, grabbed, jumped up against, pushed and shoved upon. And THERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM! I would scoot over, and well.. more of the same. Some girl and her "man" kept jumping and literally made my arm raw from smashing against me. I kept moving, but come on.. seriously? How do you not know you are literally ramming your body into another human? And the smelly fat guy who kept jumping up (barely) and then smashing into me because he couldn't control his girth.. Really? The group of  fake "hippies" (I use that term loosely, because real hippies would be cool and mellow, not a bunch of idiots) who came in late, started yelling and jumping on everyone.. What?? I heard, "They won't like it, but I can guarantee we can get closer.. Come on!"  People "finding their friends" only to stop in front of the people that had been standing there the entire show.. People that would PUSH their way through you instead of gently saying excuse me or tapping a shoulder.. Ahh... >:(

What I really want to say is, "you stupid fucks. Keep your shit together and GET OFF ME. I didn't drive 5 + hours one way, spend money for a hotel, ect.. Just so your dumb ass can sweat on me, push me and make me smell like pot!" I've been to HUNDREDS of concerts, hundreds, and there is no excuse for not respecting people. But by all means, if the victims lash out at the concert terrorist, we are the assholes?!

TO THE "It's a concert people, you should expect it!" .. Well I do, and I did.. I KNOW there are idiots everywhere, I KNOW there are people that can not hold their crap together, I KNOW there are disrespectful people in every walk of life, so you don't need to remind me.. I KNOW!

I KNOW this will happen at concerts.. I just would like to think there are better people in the world. I would LIKE to think MMJ's fans are more respectful, I would like to think all the A-holes are at Bon Jovi, I would like to think I could enjoy a concert with out all the hassle. But I also know it isn't going to happen..

We can only hope..  :'(

is this thread for real?  Come on now - this is a Rock & Roll show, not a fuckin' Bon Iver show.  Glowsticks, booze, smoking, sex, laughter, yelling is all apart of the happening.  Stay in back if you don't want in on the fun.  People up front at shows always get rowdy, thats just the way it is and thats the way it will always be.

Rage against The Machine 07 - I got hit in the face during testify, and I fuckin' liked it.

Pearl Jam - Bonnaroo 08 - the person next to me got so excited during Alive and simply threw his full beer in the air in the middle of the crowd.  I got drenced and fuckin' liked it.

Muse - Coachella 10 - I left with bruises - and I fuckin' liked it.

ROCK AND ROLL!!!!

Truuuuuuuuuuuuust that I am neither quiet nor boring during a Jacket show.  I dance my ass off and scream my head off.  But I try not to bump into folks, and if I do I apologize (and mean it).  And I generally save my hollerin' for between songs, you know - when the band can actually hear us expressing our appreciation.

We can all rock the fuck out and still be respectful to each other.  I promise this is true.   ;D

My Monkey Friend

i agree, there always needs to be at least an attempt at respect, mainly for the band busting there ass for us. trust me, i am not the push everyone around-throw beer-piss on someone type. but i do get a little tired of the melancholy dude in the fedora and ironic t shirt staring at people disapprovingly. but, i get over it b/c we are all here to see the biggest baddest best band on earth.

ALady

Oh, I agree.  I'm not a fan of the Fold Your Arms Say Meh crowd at all.   ;D  I mean, we're supposedly there to have a good time, right?

ROCK AND ROLL!!!!

I'm not saying that you shouldn't rock and roll...

I'm saying you need to SHUT THE FUCK UP at a rock show, hang up the phone, make out with your girlfriend after the show and not through glow sticks at the band...it's pretty simple

and fat sweety guy...take a shower before the show if your gonna jump on me.  I don't wear Ironic t-shirst or fidoras.  I like to have a few beers and jump around...but there are deal breakers at shows...

i don't think you need to punch a complete stranger at MMJ..it's a not the same thing as going to a rage against the machine show
