It looks like JJ will be at Bonaroo
Also, Forecastle just posted a link about Flaming Lips upcoming LP. Perhaps they are a headliner this year? They have a festival date on the 14th of July so they would have to play on one of the first two days. Too bad I don't have any of their music yet.

I doubt the FLips headline Forecastle since they headlined in 2010 and there wasn't a festival in 2011. Headlining two out of three festival years seems unlikely to me.
Well luckily RCHP shouldn't headline Bonnaroo for a few more years.
I have no idea who will be headlining, I wish they'd announce already...
I hope RHCP doesn't headline Forecastle. They are just okay.
This my favorite/least favorite time of year. I love the excitement of lineup drops and planning my big festival trip for the summer, but I hate my financial restrictions limiting me to only one festival! I also hate how spread out the announcements are. I wish February 10th was "festival day" and every festival in North America would just drop their lineup and then we could all weigh our options and decide. But that will never happen.
I'm torn on a return to Bonnaroo or a return to Forecastle. Just did Forecastle last year, so after an extended absence, I'm tempted to do Roo, and do it big, but something tells me Forecastle will have a bunch of special shit like they did last year.
Without seeing lineups, what festival are you guys being naturally drawn to this year?

Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin last year was just about the best festival experience I've ever had, when you consider all factors (lineup, convenience, cost, lack of hassles, etc.). I bought a presale ticket for this year without seeing the lineup first.
Excited about doing Newport again, but a bit worried that they won't be able to knock it out of the park again in the lineup department like they did last year (and not just due to MMJ).
I also had bought Coachella tickets before the lineup was released, and will not be selling my tix.
I'm excited for Forecastle, since it is so close to home and half the price of most other big festivals in the area. I am hoping the lineup is great, but I don't see how they can outshine last year with MMJ. Maybe that is because I am biased... Ah well, that is what being a fan is all about!
I really hope the Paul McCartney rumors at Bonnaroo are true. Hearing all 80k+ singing Hey Jude will give me chills.
I think roo will get Fleetwood Mac. If you look at their schedule, it's open on those dates and they aren't far away.
yeah, fleetwood plays detroit on the wednesday before roo starts, and it seems like detroit-bonnaroo has become a pipeline of sorts.

That's certainly a better thought, but in the interest of no one getting hurt and things not getting broken, it would be best if me and Fleetwood Mac did not cross paths.
You can go hang out at the drum circle.
The Fleetwood Mac idea isn't getting me too excited over here. I really want to see the lineups.
Anyone think MMJ might play a festival somewhere? Or just JJ solo this year?
I'll be at Wanee this year, ABB, WSP, Les Claypool, and NMA are enough for me (and its in my backyard) :drum:
The things I've heard about Forecastle this year are NOT exciting. Apparently they're trying to move more towards electronica

Damn! Not only is that NOT exciting, it's downright sad, and really bums me out.
That's from the grapevine, though. Not definitely true

This is not true, I mentioned something about this on Forecastle's page a while back and whoever runs the page shot that down immediately, telling me whatever source I learned that from was incorrect. I hope he's right!
The FB is run by JKs gf (I think). So if they say something, they know what they're talking about
These final big festivals need to drop their info already... The wait is killing me
I hear that! These Bonnaroo rumors are going to be the death of me. And apparently the lineup still doesn't drop for another two weeks!
Straight from the FB page:
"Ooh! An exciting piece of the Forecastle puzzle is locked down. We can't wait to spill the beans, but it must wait a bit..."
I'm hoping for a headliner of these sorts:
MMJ (Unlikely I know, I know)
Radiohead
Arcade Fire
Black Keys (Meh, but I'll take it)
Daft Punk (Would be interesting)
Neil Young
Jack White
I'm probably thinking too big though.. We'll see in a few weeks...
Sadly, Neil is in Europe all summer and Jack's camp has said he won't be touring in 2013.
But who knows?! That's what makes this suspense so damn FRUSTRATING! I'm a guy who likes to pick a festival and then spend the next four months freaking out about how EXCITED I am! But ya can't do that without any lineups!
Forecastle is the one festival that I haven't heard any rumors about. Jim's there, obviously, but what about the headliners? I could definitely see Arcade Fire there, but I wonder if they'll be on the road this summer or what? Ever since it was announced they're working on a new album things have been mysteriously quiet...
Call me crazy, but I could definitely see Pearl Jam as the big headliner. They'll be doing shows around Forecastle time and you KNOW Forecastle would love to book an act that will not only sell a shitload of tickets, but also draw fans from far and wide. This "destination festival" strategy worked last year with MMJ, don't see why they wouldn't do it again this year. And also, WHEN THE HELL was the last time PJ played Louisville??
Nothing but speculation but that's my official prediction for Forecastle.

Arcade fire has been super quiet. I'm hoping their album will be ready by early summer and they will be ready to hit the road.
"What a week! The line up is coming together into a mind blowing concoction and while we can't tell you just yet, we're happy to share some amazing new material from some of our all-time fest favorites. Case in point, this slightly NSFW video for the Flaming Lips rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"."
--Forecastle on Facebook
Sounds like the Lips will be there Saturday night. I have mixed feelings on this. I've heard great things and bad things about their live shows. If they do headline, it will be Saturday, because they have a show somewhere else on Sunday.
Forecastle just tweeted:
QuoteWondering which artists performing at the Grammys tonight will also be at Forecastle? :-)
Place your bets! I could see Mumford and Sons headlining a night. Ashley Capps has his fingerprints ALL over their latest tour, and none of the (very limited number of) stopovers are close to Louisville. However, M+S are also heavily rumored to be headlining Bonnaroo, and I'm not sure if I could see the two fests sharing headliners.
Could also see that tweet referring to Alabama Shakes or the Keys, but with the Keys having headlined Forecastle 2010, might be a little soon for a return visit.
Mumford headlining at roo? If so, I'll be interested to see how all the Mumford wannabes dress in their early 1900's gear in that heat. Maybe old timely bathing suits will suddenly be cool.
I could also see M+S not playing Bonnaroo after all, and Capps saving them to drum up major publicity for Forecastle.
I'm sure getting tired of this speculating game though! Let's get these lineups! Or at least a credible leak or two.
I'm definitely not saying this confirms them by any means but just to add to the Bonnaroo Speculation, Songkick did have Mumford & Sons and Tom Petty headlining Bonnaroo on their website a while ago but it was quickly taken down. I hope that's not the case since Tom Petty isn't my number one choice of headliner (I'd actually be a little excited about Mumford & Sons, which I know is a dangerous thing to say on this forum )
As far as forecastle goes, my speculation is that the Flaming Lips and the Black Keys are going to be headlining two of the three nights. The Flips because of all the love forecastle has been giving them and the Keys due to their recent tweet. And it'd go along with their small tour that they're doing together. Also didn't forecastle say something about forecastle alums coming back, which would further support the Flips/Keys headlining.
But I'm with oistheone, just release the dang lineup already
mumford and sons..
It won't be Mumford, they are in Europe that week. THANK GOD!!!
So now off to real speculation...
Black Keys
Lumineers
Jack White
Elton John? (Probably not, but damn it would be sweet)
Frank Ocean (I hope not)
Arcade Fire (Are they at the grammys this year?)
Foo Fighters
I might be missing some...
Lumineers are in Europe on the 9th, but their next show is a couple weeks afterwards in South Carolina, so it's a possibility.
Black Keys are extremely likely.
The rest are (imo) not going to happen.
They keep hinting at Flaming Lips as well.
If FL and the Keys headlined who would play on Saturday? (Which is the bigger band?)
Black Keys headlined in 2011 so I doubt they'll headline again so soon.

I'd be cool if Radiohead took their place
I still think it is going to be the Keys though.
The Black Keys and FLips are both in South Carolina the Friday of Forecastle. Not sure if that logistically marks them out or not but I thought I'd point that out. And like Fully said, they both have headlined within the past 3 or 4 years so headlining so soon would be weird. BUT STILL WHY DOES FORECASTLE KEEP ON POSTING SO MUCH ABOUT THE FLIPS?!

They wouldn't headline Friday, it would be Saturday and Sunday. Friday is typically a dubstep/electronic headliner. I think them being in SC makes them close enough to make it happen. I agree with the idea that it is too soon for them to be back, but Forecastle keeps hinting at alums coming back. I would be more shocked to not see the Lips and Keys at this point.
I am still holding out for some of these acts:
Jim James
Tallest Man on Earth
Tame Impala
Grizzly Bear
Menomena
Explosions in the Sky (This would make my weekend)
Floating Action
Houndmouth
Wax Fang
Father John Misty
Alabama Shakes
My girlfriend wants Florence, Feist, or Grace Potter, so it would be nice to get something she'd be really excited about too.
If Jim played forecastle what would be the chance for the band to show up for encore?
Fun. had a big night. Guess we know who will be headlining bonnaroo.
That tweet from Forecastle during the Grammys sure was interesting:
Quote@TheBlackKeys rocked Grammy-winner "Lonely Boy" with Dr. John and @PresHall. Excited to see what they have in store for 2013... #Grammys
While they're not quite expected, I'd definitely upgrade them to "logical" for Forecastle.

I seriously think they will show up at Forecastle. Otherwise, the person who does social media for the festival really just enjoys misleading the people.

I like the Keys, but they need to learn a few things when it comes to playing a good show. They need to extend their songs and make them come to life live, they need to play songs across their entire catalogue (not just El Camino and Brothers), and they need to play longer sets with a beefier encore. Two song encores are lame, especially when all of your songs are 3 minutes long.
Besides that, a Black Keys show is nothing but a good time.

"You've got an urgent question: When will the lineup be announced!? We've got an answer. Stay tuned for the announce date this week."
An announcement to announce the date that they will announce the lineup...

I don't think he is showing up anywhere this year. At least not so far. I'd love to see him though.
I went to Firefly Festival in Dover, DE last year. That was pretty cool. first year, 3 day festival w/ Black Keys, Jack White, The Killers, Flaming Lips. Silversun Pickpus, CAKE, Modest Mouse, Death Cab FOr Cutie and tons more.
They haven't announced this years line-up yet (suppose to in one week). There have been hints and rumors though like Pearl Jam, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Tame Impala, fun, Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, MGMT etc...

His team has said he isn't "touring", buttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt I could definitely see a festival appearance or two. Especially one close to home, like Roo or Forecastle. You know there are offers out there, and festival paychecks would be pretty hard to turn down.
Seems like a lot of lineups are going to be dropped in the next two weeks, so I'll have some decisions to make. What do you guys do? Hit everything in a 500-mile radius, or weigh your options and choose wisely?

I'm also not saying this is legit. I just thought I'd share.
Verrrrrrry interesting. Most of that jives with a "leak" that was posted on Songkick yesterday and has since been taken down. On that list were all the acts in that image, plus Petty, McCartney and a whole whack others.
Guess we won't know for sure until Tuesday, but man, if these "leaks" are legit, holy shit this is going to be the best Bonnaroo lineup ever. Well, Firefly has now showed its hand and, overall, barf. Some good things sprinkled in, though.
We'll see how Bonnaroo looks later, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high.
I know the Coachella lineup seemed a little underwhelming to some people at first, but the more lineups that come out, the better it looks by comparison.

JJ, Paul, Father John, Tallest Man, Tame Impala, Grizzly Bear... not too shabby. I'm still holding out for Forecastle, it is much closer to me and more affordable and I am at least getting Alabama Shakes and JJ.

Roo's top two are just insane. Can't believe they were able to pull it off.
But what seals the deal for me is that JJ SuperJam with Zigaboo. Madness!!!
Trombone Shorty!!!! I'm definitely going back to the farm this year. Of course I probably was anyway!

Bonnaroo's lineup is killer. I wish I was going there instead of to freakin' disney world!
Wild Nothing, Local Natives, Portugal. The Man, ASAP Rocky, Beach House... The list goes on and on. Good grief.
I asked Forecastle whether we will know what night each band is playing when the lineup drops and they replied back with this:
"The daily schedule may not be completely ready by the time the line up drops but we will be getting it out as soon as possible. Plus, there will be some very special late night shows to tell you about too."
I don't remember a late night show besides the boat last year. Does this mean that MMJ could show up? Probably wishful thinking.
They just replied back with there will be other late night shows besides the boat, but that doesn't mean MMJ.
I figured as much, but it was worth asking. I was hoping for MMJ to do at least one festival gig this year, but it doesn't look like it will be happening. After all, they have an album to record .

Better late than never! What all do they have available? An EP plus their latest? Or is there also another full length. Yeah, it's impossible to listen to without hearing some late 60s and 70s bands. I hear some Syd Barrett era Floyd in parts of their new record.

I like the way that Fest is run. Instead of packing everything into one weekend. While it's probably not practical for most fests, it's a better way to so it so that you don't get so many conflicts and can see more acts.

There are still 5 stages. But you're right, there are fewer conflicts. The festival runs from 6 to 11 on weekdays and then noon to 11 on weekends. As such, people can still go to work and then head to the shows.
And it's pretty affordable. I think the early bird pass was $250 last year for the entire 12 days, and this price was good for the first four days following the initial announcement of performers. After the four days, the cost increased to $375.

They have an EP they released last year called, "Take the Kids Off Broadway", and the LP. That's it. "Make it Known" is an awesome track, and one of my favourites from last year.
The Avett Brothers are coming to Forecastle!
The Ottawa Jazzfest has started to leak out names. So far, the lineup is superb:
Aretha Franklin
Willie Nelson
Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis
David Byrne and St. Vincent
Dr. John and the Nite Trippers
The Heavy
I live less than 5 minutes from the Waterfront in Louisville, so I'm just going to say that I'm going to Forecastle regardless. Wilco and MMJ as headliners will be very hard to top in my opinion, and I'm not into The Black Keys or The Flaming Lips, so neither sounds too great as one of the headliners!!
I have noticed though that Tom Petty and The Black Crowes are both making the festival rounds this year and having them both at Forecastle would be EXCELLENT news for me!!
Radiohead seems unlikely but would be a dream come true as I have not seen them since 2006.
very excited for this line-up to come already!! Appreciate the insight you guys are providing!

Forecastle has denied Petty already. They said you'd have to go to the farm if you wanted to see him or Sir Paul. I agree with the Wilco/MMJ thing. There isn't another band going right now that I would rather see as a headliner anywhere than MMJ.
I'm moderately excited for The Keys and Lips. They aren't my favorite bands, but it could be a lot worse, and they will put on good shows.
I'd love to see Radiohead headline, but it seems unlikely at this point. Arcade Fire, Tallest Man, Explosions in the Sky, or Father John Misty would make my summer.
Either way, I get to see Jim James twice since he is going to Forecastle!
Father John Misty was just here in Louisville in January and is already scheduled to be back in June, so I'm not sure about him again in July.
How could anyone deny Tom Petty? he is the coolest!! What do you mean by that, that they want too much money to play here?
I welcome the chance to see JJ solo but would still rather see the whole band! Maybe we'll get both!! :)
Ottawa Bluesfest to announce its lineup on Wednesday - a full two months earlier than usual.
I appreciate this info.
What announcements are we still waiting for..... Forecastle, Outside Lands, Newport, Lolla? I saw a "leaked" lolla lineup, which might have been fake. It repeats many of the bands that the other many festivals have already booked and announced.

Phosphorescent added to the Ottawa Bluesfest lineup today along with The Specials (long live Ska!), Half Moon Run, and local artist Serena Ryder, who has hit it big with a terrible, generic tune.

I saw that yesterday, and then looked him up. His new album is a little too electronic/popish for my tastes.
3 day passes to Forecastle starts at $125
That's what they were last year too i think...though it was a small amount at that price and think we may have paid $150...can't remember.
just heard elsewhere that Animal Collective was the next hint. Not sure what her source was.

Yeah Animal Collective was announced on their FB page today.
Forecastle's last hint until the lineup drops tomorrow. Looks like the String Cheese Incident. Modest Mouse or Deadmau5 were discussed as well, but Modest is in Europe at the time of the festival.

I think primus is the best guess "sailing a see of cheese" or whatever that album is called
For what it's worth, someone over on Inforoo theorized that the Forecastle lineup partially "leaked" on Spotify. Here are the artists that were playing on Forecastle's account:
The String Cheese Incident
The Black Keys
The Avett Brothers
The Flaming Lips
Alabama Shakes
Jim James
Old Crow Medicine Show
Big Boi / A$AP / Phantogram (Big Boi's track - lines)
Dirtyphonics remix by Excision, Datsik (track Deviance)
Dawes
Griz
Freakwater
Foxygen
Shovels & Rope
Ryan Hemsworth
Wheeler Brothers

The bolded ones have been either announced or hinted at, so I expect this to be relatively close. However, there are a lot of missing bands. The lineup looks solid so far, but I just really want one more exciting band. I love JJ, Alabama Shakes, Foxygen and I am decently excited for Avett Brothers, The Keys and The Lips. Shovels & Rope are a fun folk duo, but not super exciting.
I'd really be happy if Explosions showed up.

A lot of people think it is SCI, because of the term "cheese heads"
Yeah I really hope that there's one more big ass headliner and the avetts are second tier.

The Avetts sold out Bridgestone Arena last year. They can draw a crowd of Belmont music industry majors like no other. I was surprised too, and I like them.
Well shit. If SCI, TBK, and Avetts are the headliners, I'm disappointed.
Why wouldn't FLips be headlong again? The are bigger than string cheese.
Aren't the Lips bigger than Avett? No?
I feel like TBK, Lips, SCI, and Avett are all headliner material for Forecastle, but why would Forecastle announce all of their top tier bands before the lineup drops? I still think they are holding on to something.
We'll see tomorrow. Truthfully, for a mid tier fest like this, I think all of those are pretty good headliners.

I'm going to agree with Fully on this one. First off, they can put on a hell of a show. Second, they have sold out the 3 shows I have seen them at. Still don't plan on going to this festival.... Unless... surprise MMJ headlining slot (I'm told often I'm a dreamer)
I have been trying to like SCI all day, but it isn't clicking with me. They seem so cheesy (no pun intended). They just sound sorta goofy I guess. Am I crazy?
I'm kinda disappointed. I was hoping for enough enjoyable acts for a 2 day visit, but I'm not sure if there is even enough for one day. It depends on how they schedule the bands. If they put JJ and Alabama Shakes on two separate nights I will be very disappointed. It is cool how String Cheese plays all three nights, too bad I can't get into them.
there's not one band on there that I LOVE!
I will be happy to see Jim solo, especially since I'm missing the show here, and happy to see Dawes and the Avetts.
Other than that i will just make the most of seeing a few bands I casually like. Those headliners just don't do it for me...and yet I know I'll be going all 3 days anyway.
Yeah I am not sure that I want to go to Forecastle now. The way they have JJ and the Shakes on the same tier, makes me think that they will play separate nights. Since the Lips have been touring with the Keys, I wouldn't be surprised to seem them two paired together, which would then put Shakes with Avett on Sunday and Jim on Friday? That's a guess, but if the lineup turns out that way, I am not going.
In that case, can anyone recommend anything musically exciting this year in or surrounding Indiana?
I love Sharon and the Dap-Kings. I wish they were playing at Bonnaroo this year.
Hard to top last years Forecastle lineup. This is good, but nothing that would make me travel across the country to attend. I would see all of these groups individually (and have seen most of the headliners), but wouldn't travell to see a fest set for just these bands.. Oh well.
Until Forecastle stops landing on the same weekend as my wife and 3rd daughter's birthdays (July 13 and 14, respectively), I will miss Forecastle. Last year was the exception, for obvious reasons.
If String Cheese Incident can play each of three nights, seems hometown heroes MMJ should be able to do the same next time.
Not a spectacular lineup, but highlights for me (if I was going)...
Jim, Grace Potter & TN, Bob Mould (!), Flaming Lips (never seen 'em), Alabama Shakes (especially if they can expand their set with new tunes)
Maybe Jim will repay Brittany and join the Shakes for a tune or two.
I'm hoping/expecting Jim to pull some Ben Sollee-style stage bombing.
If I lived closer, had more $$$, and could convince the wife to make Forecastle an annual birthday adventure, I'd be there and have a great time. Maybe next year...

Not a great festival, but Brown Bird and Sharon Van Etten are playing...
JK should ask MMJ to curate again next year. Overall, I think last year's lineup was much stronger than what has been released thus far. I will concede, however, that I'm not the typical Forecastle customer.

I agree, there are maybe 5 bands on this list that I am happy to see. There were well over a dozen last festival that I was excited about, not to mention, MMJ is all I need anyways.
I actually like Forecastle's lineup this year. The Black Keys (hoping for not much from El Camino), The Avetts, String Cheese, that Jim James guy, The Forecastle Incident (maybe Jim will join in), Young The Giant, Big Boi, Purity Ring, Datsik, Dawes, Toro Y Moi (whom I hope joins the Bonnaroo lineup), Killer Mike, Foxygen and Rubblebucket.
I'd say that's enough for me to ponder a weekend pass this time around
The keys not making their setlist 50-75% Brothers and El Camino is funny.

For me SCI is one of the only bands who kills it on their albums as they are all really diversely talented on a variety of instruments, plus they all sing and write different songs, but when they do live shows the drugs or whatever they are on tend to take away from their sets. I saw them do a song where they sung the same verse two seperate time on accident, I've seen them forget what song they were trying to do the same night so that could of been a very out there show. Overall their more bluegrass inspired stuff is fantastic if you like that style along with sometimes a river, who am i, wake up, but then the other more jammy or trippy stuff doesn't do it for me. Of course I think most of their shows are more of a big party feel than anything else to be honest.

I haven't heard Robert Plant's new stuff but I think it will be pretty cool to see him just because of who he is! that's a pretty significant addition to the Forecastle line-up I think.

I'm just sorry to say but that Forecastle line-up just doesn't have me excited. Last year I was thrilled, was easy to spend the money knowing I had MMJ one night and Wilco the other night. Plus Deer Tick, Lucero, Ben Sollee and on and on, many other bands I saw.
But I'm not into the Black Keys or the Flaming Lips. I don't even really care about String Cheese. My bf likes them a lot, and I saw them at Radio City a few years ago b/c I got free tickets and it was a great fun show. But now I'm looking at $160-$180 to see a short set by JJ, Dawes, Kurt Vile and The Avett Brothers. That's pretty much all that I'd really make sure I saw at Forecastle. There's 5-6 other bands I'd definitely go watch and enjoy but ...I don't know. I'm just disappointed after last year being so great!!!
I'm considering not going, which is crazy since I live 5 minutes from the waterfront where the festival is. Just seems like a lot of money all of the sudden when last year it didn't....

Just get a one day pass. All of the bands that I care to see all play on Saturday anyways. That is the only reason that the lineup seems killer to me. I spend $60 and I get to see Jim, Kurt Vile, Foxygen, Alabama Shakes, and the Black Keys (who aren't my favorite, but are fun nonetheless). Flaming Lips isn't really my cup of tea (I think Wayne is pretentious), but either way, Do You Realize live would be cool to see. All of that fun packed into one day for $60? I'm in!
problem with that is that Dawes and The Avett Brothers both play on Sunday. That's 2 bands I've been listening to for a few years and never seen live and would like to. And that Forecastle Incident seems promising and that's on Sunday as well. So if I did the one day thing I'd probably go for Sunday. But then I'd miss JJ, and I'm already missing his show here next week b/c I'm seeing Widespread Panic that night. And then it'd be silly to buy for Saturday and Sunday and not just do the whole weekend!!
I'm just venting! I'm sure I'll end up buying tickets for the whole weekend and hopefully discovering some new bands I like, like I did last year with Houndmouth and Futurebirds.
thanks for listening.
I have to say, if I lived close to Forecastle, I'd go regardless of lineup, like I did going for early bird tix for Solid Sound and Newport. Living in NH, these fests and damn near every show includes hotel and, often, airfare or a hella drive. I'm not saying your reasons for not going are invalid. I just can't imagine not finding a way.

Exactly. Living in louisville, I go every year regardless. The line up this year is shit compared to last year, but for 125$ I stoked.
Plus, sunflower, if you haven't seen flaming lips than you had better go Saturday. I'm not completely enthrall end by ANY act on the line up... but The Avetts, Flips, Jim, SCIx2 is worth 125$ to me alone, and there's more than that to look forward to for a fun weekend.
And I forgot to mention the Shakes and Sharon Jones. Well worth the ticket price, IMO.

problem with that is that Dawes and The Avett Brothers both play on Sunday.
Dawes is Saturday actually

Kurt Vile is sick too, and don't forget Foxygen. They look like loads of fun.
Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll be there.
Just going to a lot of shows this month and traveling this month and next month to Nashville for shows, so needless to say have spent and will be spending a lot. Think I'll just a wait a little longer and hope to get Forecastle before they go up to $180.
Outside Lands Fest announcement is coming Tues the 16th. Rumors of McCartney and Chili Peppers as headliners.
This Muddy Roots Labor Day fest looks really cool although I don't get why Black Flag is headlining (punkabilly?) Joe Fletcher, Holly Golightly, Shooter Jennings and Otis Gibbs..Fully?

I've thought about going. It isn't expensive and Cookeville is about 2 1/2. Hours away. However Labor Day weekend in a cow field might be really miserable. Bugs and heat much worse than Bonnaroo. I'll wait and see. I'm hoping Joe Fletcher will play in Nashville around that same time since he's in the area and we know how much he likes Nashville.maybe a gig at the 5 Spot... With Brown Bird. I do really like them.

last year's line-up looked better to me

Not a great lineup. I honestly don't care to see Paul, and he is easily the best headliner.
Tallest Man and Kurt Vile are cool though!

I saw Wild Feathers open for Dylan last night. They are reminiscent of some of the so-called "Southern rock" bands of the 70's, with a wall of guitar sound. They definitely won over the crowd and got everybody pumped up with their energetic set. Worth a listen, even if you initially think it might not be your thing.

Jim, AS, Foxy, and Kurt Vile really don't conflict at all. It will be a good night!
leaving jim early to see the F'Lips is the only sacrifice I have to make at all. Because the line up is so so for me, its gonna be really laid back. Looking forward to that schedule. I guess I'll be missing houndmouth, but I dont really care about that either
shit with the Joy Formidable and FLips being back to back I may not even see Jimmy
Did you just get a Saturday pass too? And I will definitely be watching Jim start to finish, no question about that.
No I got the whole weekend, though Saturday is the best day by far.
Skipping Jim's set at Forecastle is like sacrilege!

It's not like the setlist is going to change drastically.

Yes, but you guys must be less far down the obsession wormhole than I am. I can't imagine skipping Jim for almost anything.
OK, I would have skipped his set at Roo if it conflicted with Swans, but that is the only thing on that entire Roo bill that would have made me skip Jim. In no way would I skip Jim for modern day Flaming Lips, but that's just me.

Let's not take it too far. I did stand out in the cold rain and mud to see him for the fourth time back in Atlanta earlier this month. I just don't quite think it's sacrilege to skip his show, particularly if you've already seen it a few times as ewind has. The setlist is set in stone except for some slight encore variations, yet I've enjoyed watching this band grow their sound and take things further every time I've seen them. But I completely get how someone might want to see a different band instead of Jim's band at a festival since they've already seen what they are serving up for the most part.
I agree with these comments but wonder if Jim would stray from his tour setlist since he already played Louisville and this is his hometown fest. It's all speculation and if a conflict with Jim's set exists and you've seen the Regions tour 3+ times, it would be understandable. Kinda Like Sophie's Choice applied to festival scheduling.
I would skip Jim for MMJ, but thankfully I will never have to make that choice.
And yes, it might be interesting to see what Jim's sets are like now that the actual tour for the album is over. Though it's hard for me to imagine him doing too much different with this current band than he already is doing.

I would only skip his set for Cold Specks.

Snarky, aren't we?
I wouldn't skip MMJ for anything. Jim is a different story. I opted out of 3 shows I had tickets for on this tour after seeing it multiple times. At bonnaroo wilco would be a no brainer

Anyone recall how long MMJ played last year on the boat? If the event is shorter than an hour, I'm not sure its worth the cash, but otherwise I'm game!
It was PHJB playing a set alone and then mmj joining them. no more than 1.5 hours total. im pretty sure they only played 1 mmj song (highly suspicious). it was awesome though! that being said, the boat is small and claustrophobic and hot and im gonna do cheese at the palace
