They CW/Banana thing really drives me nuts. It's been done 4 times now, and doesn't seem natural at all. That cover should probably be retired, as well as Rock The Casbah. And All Night Long, for that matter.

All three of those covers were really amazing the first, and even second time I saw them, but its too, much. It is possible that I'm just spoiled and have seen them too many times, but I would think most people in Mexico were in the same boat.

I wasn't there but have seen those covers a few times myself, and could not agree with you more.

While we're at it, and even though it's a fairly new cover, can we throw Bruce's Hungry Heart in that group?  I get it can be a fun song, and that's probably why they chose it but there are so many great Bruce songs they could cover, and not that cheesy "hit". The Ghost Of Tom Joad anyone? Adam Raised A Cain? Just to name two. They would do those songs some serious justice, no doubt about it.

Yeah! How about Glory Days? Born in the USA, or Dancing in the Dark!

What???? Surely you jest,  I'd take Dancin but only if Jim brought one of our lovely forum ladies on stage to dance doing the Courtney Cox role.  if not, I'll pass.

The only songs off that album I'd like to see covered are Downbound Train, and maybe No Surrender. Hell, they're the only two off it I like to see Bruce do.
"Where's Jim going?"

Durn tootin' I jest. In addition to the ones you list, I'd love to hear I'm on Fire, which Jim has covered in solo shows.

I'm on Fire would definitely be what I'd like to here Jim sing. Tyrone has become one of their own songs and they do it way better than Ms Badu. The rest of them lose their fun after they've been done several times. With covers, the surprise element is definitely part of what makes them fun.

Yeah, I've seen Bruce do the whole BITUSA album a couple of times, and must admit I did like I'm On Fire. Seeing Jim/MMJ doing that would be pretty cool too.

I'm fine as long as you don't mess with Tyrone or Rocket Man.

MrWhippy

Agree with some of covers (except for the ones they have really owned and made their own) feeling a bit stale at this point.

Also, while we are on the subject of the setlists, I really hope they stop this "end of Run Thru" thing.  To me it largely kills the momentum of the song to just right into the middle of it.  I don't understand that one at all.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

kintante5

I couldn't agree more with the over done covers and end of Run Thru.  I'm kind of hoping with the new album the band expands to maybe a typical 2 hr and 45 minute setlist so they can squeeze a couple extra songs in.  2 and a half hrs seemed like a lot awhile ago and now they;ve just run out of room to fit all the essentials.

The end of Run Thru makes me feel ripped off every time.  I love that song so much in it's entirety, I'd rather they do it all or don't do it at all.

This ranks as one of THE BEST times of my life! :-)

Awesome photo album! Love the variety of shots, this is heaven for people like me who couldn't attend!

Glad you enjoyed them.  I really didn't take any on night 1 or 4 - I just wanted to take in some shows without living them through a camera.  I wish the lighting made it easier to take better pics, but I didn't do half bad.

Needed backdrop for a while so I put their Storytellers on and then it hit me. This trip has the feel like you just ended a relationship with someone you dearly love. When you think about them it floods your memories and makes you yearn for them and the way things were so bad it hurts...

...yeah, that's how it feels with this trip. I miss it so much. Just want to close my eyes and go back. Feel the same things.

I remember so many heartaches like this throughout my young life that it is so easy to recognize the feeling.

But this time it was different. I instead of losing the love of another, I share in the pain equally with my wife... My love of my life. It is different in that it is only a trip and not a real, living and breathing being you're saying goodbye to.

But I loved every moment I spent there with her... And with some of you... And of course the wonderful musicians. So yeah, it hurts. OBH is now just a memory of a love lost.

Oh, but what a great lay!

Well... Our little OBH holiday just got off to a rousing start! We had a 9:09am flight this morning... Got crazy start and traffic issues up the wazoo...  Made it to United Check-in at exactly 8:15 and they said we arrived too late... Next flight not until 5:20 am tomorrow... One day dead.... We're trying to stay calm and positive about it... But I should be standing in Mexico right now instead if 12 degree NY!

Paid extra for direct flight too and now we're having to stop in Houston! I'll be fine by this time tomorrow... Just venting! Hope everyone else gets off to a better start!

shit mars, sorry about that.  but you'll be all good soon enough.

Thanks, we definitely didn't let the start get us... We actually had even more issues with the next part of that initial trip. Houston, we had a BIG problem. Bookended of course with getting stuck at the parking garage in Jersey because their computer registers failed and they couldn't complete transactions! LOL

Thanks to OBH, even that and the crazy-long customs stuff before it couldn't wipe the shit-eating grins off our faces!

it was just a complete "small talk" conversation and the guy had no clue who carl was. the conversation went something like:
"hey whats your name?"
"carl"
"where are you from?"
"nashville"
"cool, so what do you do for a living"
"uhh.. play guitar"
"no way thats awesome, thats a full time job?" (or something along those lines)
(something along the lines of) "yeah, it pays the bills.."
the dude kept probing him, oblivious, while everyone just watched, knowing it was coming... and finally,
"so do you play in any band I would know?"
"uh... my morning jacket."

laughter all around
scene
BRILLIANT!

next topic:  you kids are overthinking the covers selection.  keep in mind, as long as Anita Baker is in the pre-show music they will continue to play "All Night Long."  it is the way of things.
"i don't mean to brag, i don't mean to boast, but we like hot butter on our breakfast toast."

All three of those covers were really amazing the first, and even second time I saw them, but its too, much. It is possible that I'm just spoiled and have seen them too many times, but I would think most people in Mexico were in the same boat.

I agree with you completely that we've been there, done that.   But, I would guess that less than 10% of the people there have seen those songs before.   Besides us hardcore, everyone I talked to the next day were saying how great and novel that was.

I have no issues with them keeping It Makes No Difference, Oh Sweet Nothin, Tyrone, etc. in the mix for a long time to come, but I have seen enough of Isn't a Pity at the end of Steam and so on.

Well, those same people that were so into the covers would have been just as into them even if they were different/new covers, and then us hardcores would have been satisfied as well.

This is a very minor complaint, but the fact of no new covers played is defintely a little surprising.
