QuoteI'm thinking early retirement for Bob & Me, and opening up  a My Morning Jacket commune?   Whose in?  Such a talented group of people, we could definitely make it work.

Ruckus

I have been listening to this band for almost 7 years now and they have brought me joy that very few bands have been able to replicate over my 32 years.  However, the unadulterated joy that was October 18-23, I can confidently say I've never experienced before.  The apartment, the people from all over, the city,  the music and the unbridled kindness of all created a confluence of energies that set me off on an unmatched 6 day high that was supplemented by only a few drinks and a pretzel or two. ;)

I joined this forum over 2 years ago and found myself returning to more often as time went by because I sensed there were very good people here and the sense of community it brought was real and fulfilling.  Throughout that time, I have met members here and there at shows and each person I had met only reinforced my appreciation of this forum and the people here.

So often in the communities of the interwebs, we lack the accountability that should counterbalance the often strong opinions that we espouse.  Within this community, a large majority of the people have wanted to be held accountable by actually wanting to meet up together before and after shows, 1st to show how frickin' awesome they are, but also to back up what may otherwise be construed as somewhat hollow, insincere postings on a digital message board.  For that, you guys are the best.

I cannot remember the last time I felt so giddy for such a prolonged period of time that can only be compared to excitement of something new that I experienced during my youth, whether it be summer camp or my folks taking me overseas to stay with my families in Japan and India.  Sharing that apartment was something else guys.  The tiniest of living quarters, 75 minutes waits for the shower, paper thin walls, bedbugs, a shower so small that if you dropped your soap you had to get out to pick it up, and some many other random quirks.  BUT, all you roomies made it awesome.  That's it.  You all know who you are and thanks for making it the best 4 night hotel stay in my life.

So with all that sense of euphoria coursing through me thanks to all the great people I met at McGee's, the venue and elsewhere, the music also happened.  That is likely for another thread but needless to say, those were the best 5 concerts of my life.  My really close friend from high school who I hadn't seen in two years joined me for Z night.  He said he'll be willing to take days off to tour near the NE to Mid Atlantic whenever they come back.  Enough said.

Thanks everyone! [smiley=beer.gif]

And I'm not proof reading this >:(

fanfreakingtastic!! Wow, just an unbelievable week of music, best 5 nights of music I've ever experienced...EVER!!  Back to work today in California and my head is floating through the clouds.

It was really great meeting several of the forumers at McGees pub, I only made the Tuesday pre-show meetup, and everyone I met was crazy nice and a joy to chat with.  You guys seriously had the floor space completely locked down, kudos.  I need my space to maneuver and just couldn't deal with that spot, but man, you guys rocked the hell out of it.  Spent a couple of nights in the balcony (near where dragonboy had the rail spot locked down every night) and it was super fun to see the forum crew going bezerko down there. Pennylane, I'm glad you got to touch Jim's banana, I know how much you've wanted to do that for quite some time.

I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said, the shows were just beyond my wildest imaginations.  They just destroyed NYC completely.  Highlights are too many to even list.  I don't think I can really rank the nights, loved all five them, although I do feel that the Z night was a slight lull in the band's energy level, but still completely magical.  The covers were just off the charts.  I think Head Held High might have been my favorite, but they really were all amazing.

And the icing on the cake...the Giants winning the pennant literally within minutes of walking out of T5 Saturday night.  Talk about a perma-grin!

And not to drag any negativity into the week, because it really was the most amazing musical experience I could have ever dreamed, I just love this band.  But...is there a worse venue anywhere than Terminal 5?  That place absolutely blows.  As we were walking out on Saturday I told my buddy....only way I'd ever come back here is if Phish opened for MMJ.  :D

What a great week.  So sad it's over!

kydiddle

I know it's not a commune, but I have a different idea. If they announce MMJ for the Bonnaroo lineup, I say we converge on Louisville the following weekend and celebrate.

And plan...  :D

Very fun fun time. Twas a blast chilling with all you kind folks before the show. Good times had by all I'm sure. Great group of people from great distances.
Until we meet again at a another show...

My wife and I have considered packing up and moving to Kauai, HI (we almost didn't come back from our Honeymoon)

It's sparsely populated, has lots of natural splendor, and is overpopulated by chickens. Also, there's a guava problem that needs to be taken care of, for the vegetarians among us.

Also, it's Hawaii.

Yeah, that idea might be better than SF.  Everybody who goes to Hawaii must eat a guava directly from the tree - it's the best thing ever - I've been talking about it non-stop for a decade now!

Well said Ruckus.  Right on!
