Who's going? I'm trying to decide if flying out for one show is worth it.
I haven't been there in a million years so I'm leaning towards worth it. If I had been there recently then flying elsewhere for two shows would win out. Tough call. But the mountains in August are amazing. MMJ and biking in the same weekend I think is too good to miss.
I haven't been there since last time MMJ played, so I'm also leaning towards it. I plan on hitting 6 other shows, and RR will be the most expensive for just one. hmmmm
I just talked to my friend and he's in so we are definitely flying out. It's my first time going to Red Rocks and his first time seeing MMJ live, can't wait!

I have a friend who lives not but 10 minutes away from RR. It was very convenient in 2012, but for one show I don't know if it's worth it this year. Probably wait to see what 2016 has in store for RR shows and go out there then. I will probably be hitting up the Milwaukee and Minneapolis shows this year.

hoping for 2 nights next year. probably going to sit this one out. still trying to figure out my tour schedule for this year, so many options to choose from.

I don't see why it wouldn't be. All of their shows at red rocks have been GA. They usually do reserved for the old people shows like Crosby Still & Nash or Van Morrison. The rockers are almost always GA. It occasionally happens that the first 20 rows are GA, then the next 25 rows are reserved and the last rows are GA again. Plus, they have the ability to sell more tickets for GA.

We will be staying in downtown Denver. Have you heard anything good or bad about some of the shuttles out to Red Rocks. I found Front Range Ski Bus and Bus To Show on line, and they seem pretty reasonable. I would prefer not to drive and I didn't know if one of these shuttles or a cab would be best.
Any idea how fast this show will sellout? Do you think Roll Call is necessary?

I've never used a shuttle, but I have plenty of friends who have. Let me get their opinion. It's certainly a commodity that has grown the last couple years.

it will take a while to sell out, but IMO red rocks is a really important show to be close for. It can get really windy up there, and the higher up rows seem really far away. I would be bummed to have to sit more than 20 rows back at RR, honestly

i actually brought this up in the general tour thread but probably got lost in the madness of yesterday. i'm a bit weary on the seating arrangement now as myself and many others got screwed on the Wilco pre-sale a few weeks back. Wilco had only ever played the traditional GA-Reserved-GA set up, yet without any word before the initial pre-sale, they changed up this summers show to first 50 Reserved-GA in the back. Needless to say, we all instinctively went for GA. so it would be nice to know for sure before Monday.
on another note, i guess we can pencil a PWW-Stir It Up into the setlist?

Been my favorite band for 4 years but for various reasons I've been unable to see them live in that time (not least because the last time they came to Texas I was in another part of the country). Since there are no Texas dates I'm flying to Denver. I'm not spending another four years missing them.

That's true but like needing their own show tickets, the +1 and Roll Caller also has to have their own sound check tickets. Obviously the Roll Caller has to make that SC purchase but just wanted to make sure people know the only thing the +1 gets for free is the early access. Roll Callers are only eligible to purchase those VIP's, they aren't part of the regular ticket cost, and are a separate purchase.
There was some confusion about this initially when it was first offered, and just wanted to give a heads up to new RC's.

I just got off the phone with Red Rocks customer service. I asked if they could tell me which sections would be reserved and which would be GA for the MMJ show and she said she did not have that information yet.
You would think that they will DEFINITELY have that info handy when ordering the tickets, yeah? And since both reserved and GA are pretty big, it shouldn't be a big worry to have to click real fast.. so i'm thinking just take a close look before you pick when the time comes.
However, if anyone else has better luck than me getting the info out of them that would be something to post here!
BTW: I've noticed that the Alabama Shakes have no other tour dates within 9 days of their Red Rocks show. You think it's possible that Brittany shows up a couple days early to sit in with MMJ for a song or two?
I'm wondering if it is worth it to purchase Roll Call tickets or just get regular. If it is GA, I have my pass for entry. Roll call historically has been will call with no transfers. It is 1000+ mile drive for me, and if for some reason it fell through, I want to sell my tickets. The big draw for me is I have camped all over the western US, and Western Rockies in Co. are my favorite place, so camping in heaven for a few days, followed up by an MMJ show at Red Rocks is my kind of trip. Just want to keep options open, as anything can happen between now and August. And what is with MMJ being listed each night for the festivals? Does that mean they just don't know which day they are playing yet, and they don't sell one day passes?
That's a really good point about no transferring of RC tix. It's one of the reasons I never get too bummed if I get shutout of a presale. Especially for shows I'm traveling to. I much rather have a hard ticket in hand that I can at worst Miracle someone if I can't make it.
I really wish they would alter that RC policy, and at least allow us to transfer the tix to another Roll Caller. I understand keeping the tix out of people's hands who aren't members but just switching a name to another Roll Caller for pickup at Will Call could be monitored pretty easy I would think.
i'm planning on Road tripping with my dad...my friends all backed out. We've been talking about this for years, since the last RR show. and all of a sudden everyone is like eh fuck it. I"m pissed. But I'm stoked i don't have to wait to the next Seattle show to get my Jacket Head father to a show!
also I got my dad, who introduced me to ROCK AND ROLL, into MMJ with Circuital and a burned copy of the T5 shows back in 2011, he's such a fan he's picked out song(s) he wants played at his funeral. Which hopefully isn't for another 40 years, 105 would be a good age for him. Any who i'm rambling and stoked!

Sounds like a great road trip with your dad! My wife and I will be driving from Houston. She has been awesome with putting up with my MMJ addiction, and knows how bad I have been dying to go to Red Rocks, especially for MMJ. I tried to sell her on the 3 nights in Chicago too, but she said I would have to give up OBH3. After going to OBH1 and OBH2, there is no way I am missing OBH3.

Red Rocks staff wouldn't know. they're a state park. You need to speak with the promoter AEG Live. They would know the plan well before the park.
I already have plans to attend the Brandi Carlile show on August 15th so I am out of my mind at the thought of seeing MMJ on the 14th!!! I have been to Brandi's shows at RR the last two years and I can't imagine a better venue for an MMJ show.
I wish we could stay for Alabama Shakes on Sunday but we just paid NINETY SIX dollars for two tickets to see them in Indy. I mean, for Alabama Shakes? in Indianapolis?

Not after seeing the chicago run, no. For me, Chicago Theater is the indoor equivalent of red rocks in terms of the venue im always hoping that they will play. Aside from that most of us can just hit two or three of stl/kc/rr and craft our own little multi nighter. Not quite the same but still pretty cool.
Next year, though. Im hoping for three nights in Morrison and for everyone here to make the trip.

I see that gates open 1.5 hours before the show and will call will open 2 hours before. Is there typically a long line waiting for gates to open? I didn't know if I should get the general admission, or not risk it and get reserved.

Hope you got reserved. I did, row 26 which is the 2nd row of reserved. the first 24 are GA and you fight for your seat. just try to get in with some cool peeps as people get pretty agro. and there will be a line SEVERAL hours before the gate opens. it's a bit of a nightmare but if that's your deal, worth it. with reserved you can always go down unless they have wrist bands which is doubtful.

I also had a question about GA. I see that the very front is GA along with the very back. Is it just first come first served about getting in the front section? I'm going to have the laminate so I'm not too worried but I'm just curious.

GA is the best way to go. Reserved seating doesn't start till the 26 th row, which at Red Rocks is like being 40+ rows away. If its windy(good chance there) the sound doesn't sound well further back & on the sides.
Also have quesitons about GA. I didn't check the seating chart so just assumed GA would be a pit section up front. Any early entry or anything for Roll Call members? There's a chance we might be in the very back even if we bought from Roll Call?
As long as you show up before early entry gets let in, no, there's no way you'll get stuck in the back.
I couldn't disagree more about GA being a "nightmare," I actually really enjoyed the whole experience. I think we got there 2 hours before the doors opened and ended up in like row 6. Now, i will say, they have a strange way of performing the entry. They get all the roll call early entry people in a line at first, then you are herded into a rectangular corridor that goes uphill. THen you are stopped by another gate for about a half hour, and then once they open that gate, the line is about 7 people thick and however long.. once the gate opens people pretty much book it for the seats. I mean, some will all out sprint. However, even if you are not able to run or simply decide not to, you will still end up with a great seat.
I also second the notion that row 26 is like row 40. You really don't want to be that high up.

I decided to play it safe and got reserved. I ended up with row 28. I figured I would be less stressed about getting in and figured I could always move down into GA if so desired. Plus, now I don't have to convince my wife to get there 3 hours ahead. Happy wife...happy life :)
As of now I have 2 GA tickets that were taken out of my paypal account that are not showing up in my Roll Call Account. I contact Wonderful Union and they don't understand what is going on. They took my info and are supposed to call me back to let me know.
So I guess I may/may not have tickets?

with the presale, i wanted to go for reserved for the show, just cause i hate dealing with the sea of people fighting for positioning with GA...but the reserved seats were all gone so not wanting to get shutout altogether i went with GA...
i'd much rather be in a reserved section i think but it is what it is at this point.
overall, how big is red rocks? is sitting in the GA area up top THAT bad?
Anyone have any hotel recommendations? Dont need to be too close to the venue, would rather be near some good bars/nightlife.

We decided to hang out at the top and stay out of the crowds. Had a blast, but it was a calm night and we wanted to be there. Obviously, closer is better, but I've always enjoyed the views from the higher rows, even when it gets dark. Here is a picture the worst case scenario.

Also, you are not guaranteed to be avoid the GA push in the reserved sections. Red Rocks crowds are always fun, but there are always yahoos. More often than not, we've had to argue with folks with GA tickets about our reserved seats. One time we had to kick 15+ people out of our two seats.

LOL... there's no "sea" of GA folks to fight with. if this were Port Chester or something i would agree with you.. i can't stand the GA floor because you leave to go to the bathroom one time and now you gotta fight for your life, endure cold stares from people who don't understand why you are trying to get in front of them, just to be back to the spot that you stood in line for 6 hours to get and that's IF your group was good about keeping the spacing right.. More likely than not someone has wedged their way in and now you are left with about half the real estate.
Reason why Red Rocks GA is the best GA in the biz:
1. It encompasses the first 25 rows which are the very best site lines and are optimum for sound quality.
2. The first row and stage are on roughly the same level, and then slopes up so whether you are in row 1 or 20, you get a great view. If you are short, then you still have a good shot at seeing over people.
3. Each row (step) is wide enough (front to back) to easily fit two people. However, it is commonly understood that once you claim your spot on that row (step), the space in front of you is also yours, leaving you a very substantial amount of room to move if you are the dancing type. If you can only find one spot, and happen to be with your sig other, no problem.. The shorter one can simply go in front of the other and there is still plenty of room.
3A. Also having to do with row (step) width, if you need to go get beer or use the rest room, you will find it VERY easy to simply walk past people on the extra 3-4 feet of space that people aren't standing on in front of them.
4. Tailgating: The early entry GA lot (yes, we get our own parking lot) will be full of people partying well before the show starts. i've seen a bunch of shows, i've been up front a lot, i've been in the back a lot...and everywhere in between...i'm at the point in my life where i just want to be comfortable and enjoy the music. being upfront would be ideal, but to me just seeing this awesome venue for the first time and hearing my favorite band will be more than enough.
really want to hammer home one point. security is very good and very helpful, so there is never a reason to get mean spirited with someone who doesn't understand the layout.. sure they should have done their homework but in an effort to avoid a fight or altercation that could ruin your experience or those of the people around you, keep a cool head and kindly refer them to even security if they don't believe you.

Reason why Red Rocks GA is the best GA in the biz:
1. It encompasses the first 25 rows which are the very best site lines and are optimum for sound quality.
2. The first row and stage are on roughly the same level, and then slopes up so whether you are in row 1 or 20, you get a great view. If you are short, then you still have a good shot at seeing over people.
3. Each row (step) is wide enough (front to back) to easily fit two people. However, it is commonly understood that once you claim your spot on that row (step), the space in front of you is also yours, leaving you a very substantial amount of room to move if you are the dancing type. If you can only find one spot, and happen to be with your sig other, no problem.. The shorter one can simply go in front of the other and there is still plenty of room.

nice. i think i'm just used to the nyc chaos and it really turns me off. it's cool that GA folks get their own lot for tailgating...and even cooler about the respect that everyone has down in GA. can't wait for an awesome show!

Wiltern GA was pretty special. They only allow 200 people into the pit, and with early entry you are guaranteed a yellow wristband that only 199 others have. Very roomy and maneuverable, and you could always leave, only to come back with no issues.

I re-upped for the roll call a few days ago, whenever the email came out. Are we getting a new laminate for this years shows? I'm looking for my old ones, I think the most recent one I have is of a human body dancing (has a tiger head and a bird on its left hand).
They will likely be shipped just before the first set of shows. Most likely it will come down to the wire and some will not have their's for athens but they will then instruct u to bring a copy of ur roll call order confirmation or something. All will be well.

We will be staying in downtown Denver. Have you heard anything good or bad about some of the shuttles out to Red Rocks. I found Front Range Ski Bus and Bus To Show on line, and they seem pretty reasonable. I would prefer not to drive and I didn't know if one of these shuttles or a cab would be best.

I was told that even though it shows my money was taken out that it will just drop off in the next couple days and if not to call them back. So yeah a bit frustrated. He states not too many issues occurred today during presales, lol.
So it looks like I will be trying to get tix this Friday.

Also, something fun to think about for the Red Rocks show -- every time I have had the pleasure of seeing MMJ around Denver (a couple of nights at RR in 2012 and at Fiddler's Green with Wilco and Bob Dylan in 2013), they had John Oates come down from his home in Aspen and join them on stage for a few songs. I really hope that happens again because I love that collaboration!

Did you even have the option to enter payment information or was PayPal automatically set from a previous purchase (likely your Roll Call signup/renewal transaction)? I have a buddy who got stuck in the PayPal loop and eventually got an error message and then a notice that his tickets were gone (and at that point, the whole pre-sale had sold out), so you got further in the transaction than he did. But he didn't ever have the chance to change his payment info, so that was the shittiest part.
I actually had a conversation with PayPal on Twitter and they were much more helpful and active in their customer service than Wonderful Union. But still, no tickets available to purchase for this show so either way, we were SOL. Until the public on sale...
Yeah I only had the option to go through PayPal....they are currently trying to contact WU and we are going to do a three way call and hopefully resolve this disputed claim that I have filed. What a great way to spend my night after work.....hopefully I'll get tix this Friday!

So gluv/Garrett, or any other informed people, can you clear something up? We're on the fence here, think this would be a magical trip but rode the fence too much Monday and are now going to be among the public on-sale masses.
My question is: If we get GA (which is my hope) and are Roll Call members, you're saying if we get in line early, they take all the RC people and let them in first to the GA area? Has that been confirmed they're doing that again?
Also, if we get shut out on GA and have to go with reserved, is there a row I should be targeting?

I think it is highly unlikely that you won't be able to get a GA ticket on Friday. In fact, I'll bet you'll be able to get one well into July if not right on up until showtime. The place holds over 9500 people, and unless I am greatly underestimating the popularity of our boys compared to other acts (http://redrocksonline.com/concerts-events/listing) playing there this summer, it's not going to sell out anytime soon. The other thing is, even if you have to get a reserved ticket, that doesn't mean you can't waltz your happy ass right down into the GA area when you go in. Nobody checks your ticket to see which type it is. Early entry is determined by your Roll Call status, that is, having the Roll Call laminate. Or any RC laminate for that matter (since they don't have years on them anymore), and the people at the venues are clueless, believe you me. Both times we've had Roll Call early entry at Red Rocks (2012 and 2011), the Red Rocks staff had no idea what we were talking about when we tried to start the line, although we got it figured out with some friendly prodding.
Yes, one line is formed that is the Roll Call Early Entry line. In 2011 we were told in various emails to line up on the north stairs, and in 2012 it was from the south lot. It was a clusterfuck in terms of communication (even more so in 2012), but it all worked out.

I don't see why it wouldn't be. All of their shows at red rocks have been GA. They usually do reserved for the old people shows like Crosby Still & Nash or Van Morrison. The rockers are almost always GA. It occasionally happens that the first 20 rows are GA, then the next 25 rows are reserved and the last rows are GA again. Plus, they have the ability to sell more tickets for GA.
i actually brought this up in the general tour thread but probably got lost in the madness of yesterday. i'm a bit weary on the seating arrangement now as myself and many others got screwed on the Wilco pre-sale a few weeks back. Wilco had only ever played the traditional GA-Reserved-GA set up, yet without any word before the initial pre-sale, they changed up this summers show to first 50 Reserved-GA in the back. Needless to say, we all instinctively went for GA. so it would be nice to know for sure before Monday.
on another note, i guess we can pencil a PWW-Stir It Up into the setlist?
Phone West West - Stir It Up definitely. Maybe Fade Into You (Mazzy Star cover) as well, with Sylvan Esso in tow.
It's interesting that they declined to bring a group with them that has a horn section. Usually that is their MO for big shows such as this. However I definitely see why they may have picked Sylvan Esso. For one, their brand of laid back electronic seems like a natural fit in the urban coffee houses of a place like Denver and i think it will be a good draw for the younger generation that may be interested in the Jacket but need another reason to push them over the ticket purchase threshold. For two, her presence provides them with a myriad of cover options.
Hard to say if we will get another stir it up medley, but i think it would be awesome and also very fitting to play a couple of cherished Marley tunes (Could You Be Loved as well) in the land where legal cannabis culture first started booming. Speaking of.. i'm expecting that night to be pretty jam heavy for associated reasons.. HOWEVER, i would also not be surprised to see them do something completely different with the inevitable Sylvan Esso sit-in. If she came on for wonderful i think that would be pretty neat if only for a change.

Maybe i misspoke, but here's what I meant if i said 'GA parking lot:" In 2012 if you had roll call early entry you were referred to a specific (small) parking lot. It certainly seemed like the vast majority of people in that lot were roll callers sitting in GA.

Interesting, good to know! I probably misremembered, and maybe it was just the second row that got wristbands at the last show I was at there (MMJ), but I thought it was more. Still, it's good.

There is not a bad seat at Red Rocks, there are spots that are better than others but nothing sucks anywhere really...unless you get on the edge of a row at the top, but still not that terrible- it's Red Rocks. If you're in GA, the biggest tip I have is don't go in and go straight to a spot where you came in- you might deal with people walking in and out right in front of you all night.
I just moved back to the south from Denver, and other then some awesome people I met there, the thing I'll miss the most is being able to hop in a car and head to RR whenever I can. Even though I didn't see that many good shows there haha

No seats at all. Pretty much a free for all. Make sure you have a buddy to hold your spot! But unlike a lot of other places with standing GA, there's more room to wiggle around. Went in 2012 and had no issues grabbing a brew and coming back to my spot

No seats at all. Pretty much a free for all. Make sure you have a buddy to hold your spot! But unlike a lot of other places with standing GA, there's more room to wiggle around. Went in 2012 and had no issues grabbing a brew and coming back to my spot

If you have general admission tickets you will need to make a day of it. Start early and arrive at the north upper lot or south lot from Morrison and you will have to stand in the cue until the doors open. Then it is a full on run to the open seats. Plan on meeting some great people and doing some tailgating and walking a bit...we are at 6,400 feet in elevation so drink lots of water if you are from lower elevations and I mean lots of water! Especially if you plan on having any alcoholic beverages. I don't think they care if you have a Roll Call Lanyard they did not last two shows there. They let you in to the park when they let you! Read the rules of Red Rocks on their website they are quite clear and will turn you away if you don't and it's a long walk back to your vehicle! Plan on any kind of weather (and it can change very quickly)! Early Bird is the Word. Take some time to hike around the park, it is beautiful, and historic. Sun yourself on the sandstone rocks. See the museum and dine at Shiprock. But most of all, there is not a bad seat in the venue. The energy here is like no other. Can't wait to meet you all at the Rocks! And I hope they add a second show. Just sayin'!!!
Start early? Exactly how early do you recommend?
I'll be making my first trip out to red rocks! My buddy moved to Golden about two years ago and still has yet gone to a red rocks show, and it'll also be his first MMJ show! He's an avid hiker/trail runner and knows the area well so we'll be making a full day of it.
Did anyone else get tickets through the Gilt City pre-sale? I grabbed some GA tickets and the tickets specifically say for "Standing room only" in rows 25-27...
I haven't seen any other mention of specific rows with GA tickets and it seems to me people are saying that reserved starts in row 26?

One of the many benefits to being a member of a great forum such as this is the get togethers at shows. The year I went in 11 we had a pretty nice size group tailgate in the North lot. We got there early afternoon, and setup at the front of the entrance. Everyone was free to mingle, walk around the lot, enter the park, or even tour the museum with no worries about losing their place in line because we had plenty of people to keep our places in line, and hold our spots.
In fact as great as that show was, the tailgate was just as great! I'll have those memories forever, and they're just as vivid now as they were that day. :thumbsup:
I'm sure there was a similar get together the next time they played there, and will be this year too. :cool: Keep checking the thread for info, then just show up, introduce yourself, and have a great time with no worries. :beer:
Yeah, as i recall, the actual line to go in doesnt start forming u til maybe an hour before doors. Its sort of hard to explain but we formed an informal line in the parling lot and you could just put a lawn chair in your spot and walk around talking to people. At the front of the line people had tables and canopies set up. When they announced that they wanted us to form the real line most of us took our stuff back to the car and walked over to the gate in approximately the same order we had been in.
Its not super organized but its fun and it works. Just show up at least a couple hours early and you dont have anything to worry about in ga.
An important step is to makes friends with the people immediately ahead and behind you in line, so that you can go do what you need to do, and then reclaim your rightful place when the time comes, or at least get close to it. Most everybody is very cool about doing this. :beer:
Can't wait to get to meet everyone at the tailgate. My friend has two of his friends meeting us there and going to their first MMJ show. It's gonna be a night of great music and meeting new folks!

The Alabama Shakes are in my area on the 14th, Santa Barbara Bowl. Brittany is a no show, guaranteed. I however, will be at Red Rocks for 2 shows that weekend, and later at the SB Bowl for MMJ with a nice group of friends who have never all socialized at the same time.
so if i can't make it...what do you guys think the chances are that i can transfer will call to my buddy in Colorado.
i really hope i don't get the job....cross your fingers.

for whatever it's worth - at last nights Ryan Adams show, only the very first GA row got wristbands from security. this continues the trend i noticed from the end of last summer.
luckily it was a very cool audience and there were no incidents - at least not from my vantage point in the second row. unfortunately the show was cut short due to lightning.

What are the purposes of the wristbands? You get to stay in the very front? Hopefully with the Roll Call early entry, none of that will be an issue.
previously, the first 2 rows at GA shows would receive wristbands after the initial rush of doors opening settled down a bit. this allowed you to come and go as you please as the security at the front of the stage would know what to look for and kick people out that did not have the wristbands. row 3 and beyond, you're on your own. and once the lights go down, there will be drunk assholes that attempt to squeeze on in.
however, if there is a large enough group together, this is not usually a huge issue. it was just nice to have to not worry about it at all.
even with early entry (which now i'm a little nervous about seeing as we didn't get a return of the sound check party) there will be plenty of us in row 2, 3 and even 4.
here's to hoping we get up there bright and early!
The best (for me) GA policy I ever saw was at the Wiltern run. The first 200 into the pit get wrist bands, and they are the only ones allowed in. With early entry you could not miss. That made the pit pretty light, and you could always leave and come back to the same spot. Even the rail.
that sounds amazing...i had to pee after seeing everest open for MMJ in seattle last time they were here...anywho i told the guy behind me to remember my face and i came back. he was a dick about it. so i let him in front of me. just so i didn't have to argue with him and have a bad night...he was tool with a terrible mustache. i hate people like that. was complaining about how rude i was for like twenty minutes i finally told him to get over it you got a better spot. and i didn't get to stand next to my friend. then some douche comes pushing through right at they are about to start and pushes everyone over. Seattle get your act together.
so found out today I'm still in the running for the job....bummer. i need a job but i also need MMJ and Red Rocks at the same time!

it's strange to me that they are playing so many multi night runs this tour and Red Rocks didn't end up with at least two shows. end of tour, one of their favorite venues, tons of Roll Callers making the trip, etc etc.

Yeah - but with Alabama Shakes & the Drive-by Truckers playing two days later, it works out pretty dang good! First time at Red Rocks and get to see Jacket & the Shakes with the DBTs. Gonna be great!

My boss seemed to have no qualms with me taking time off for this so I'm about to pull the trigger on some tickets from the vultures at Stubhub. But I have a couple of questions:
This'll be about a 10-12 hour drive from my house - not sure exactly because I've never been - we were planning on leaving at like 5 a.m. Friday but I guess this won't be early enough? I'll want to try to do early entry, provided the venue honors it, so what time should I try to arrive to get a good parking spot, have less of a walk, etc., etc.? Sorry for the dumb questions. I have no idea how RR works.

I think you can count on early entry being 30 minutes before the doors open for the general public, and I'm sure they will do it for Red Rocks.
There are several parking lots around the amphitheater and I would think that if you were getting there early enough for early entry, you would certainly still be able to get a spot in one of them. Last year for Jack White we drove in shortly before the opening act started, and there were still plenty of spots in one of the lower lots.
Every experience I've had at Red Rocks has been very mellow and easy, even for sold out shows, so you don't need to stress about the logistics too much around that place.

You can, not sure how much you'll really be able to hear from the lot. A lot of ticketless wooks climb up in the rocks behind the venue. Only time I've seen them check tix to get into the lot was phish 96, but I've been there several times since and anyone can get into the lot.

You could walk up that Upper North Lot and walk to the back of the venue. You could certainly hear from there.

I joined the Peace Corps and I am living in Uganda for the next two years, until August 2017. One of the things I will miss from my home in Colorado is Red Rocks, especially MMJ. A friend loaded up a bunch of music for me, including MMJ and said he put in Waterfall, but it's not there. Internet is too expensive to stream, so I will request the CD in a care package. I assume it's good.
It looks like a nice contingent of forum fans will be there this year. Always the same questions. There is one answer- get GA and sit up front.

Darn! Coming in from So Cal for MMJ and DBT AS. Padres are my favorite team, but traveling with my dog, and there is a BBQ with a bunch of fans on Saturday. I would love to check out a new stadium, especially when SD is playing, but hard enough getting a dog sitter for the two shows.
The more I think about this show the more I realize I have to be there... Anyone got an extra GA ticket? :)

The more I think about this show the more I realize I have to be there... Anyone got an extra GA ticket? :)
Got my flight booked today and got a ticket lined up- can't wait to see everyone there!
I'm so excited....so close i can feel it. the feeling i get when i see pics from shows and the hype I'm reading about the energy of the shows. Its going to be fantastic.

10 days!!!!!!!!!! Any advice for someone coming to Red Rocks for the first time? Places to eat nearby, parking advice, best rows to look for in GA for sound, etc...

CHI, if you're not planning to be in the first rows up front, right in front of the soundboard is an excellent spot for viewing and sound.

They did at Milwaukee and Minneapolis - but nothing aside from that incl @ OBH. So they're due for Bear along w Smokin from Shootin, TIWTSWY, and Sooner.

Hey there, checking in again from Uganda. I'll be officially a Peace Corps volunteer after finishing training on August 13. Getting sworn in at the U S Ambassador's house. I will be teaching financial literacy to rice farmers.
I am going to make a shameless pitch for someone to donate a copy of Waterfall to me (someone had said they would but I don't think they have looked at the Forum since)- and while you are at it, if there is a boot of this weekend's Red Rocks show, I would love that too. I am already burdening my son Clark with a bunch of requests for a care package (which will cost at least $150 in postage), so if someone can get the discs to him to add to the care package...... I ferried a few of you to hotels a few years ago (when Flaming Lips played the night before), so I am hoping for some return favors.

I am having to cancel my trip to Red Rocks :cry: Does anybody know if tickets purchased through Ground Control are transferable? If so, I will have two reserved tickets in row 28 available. Any info from somebody that has done this would be appreciated. I would only be looking for face value for these.
I also have two tickets to the Rockies vs. Padres on Sunday that I would be happy to mail to somebody for free. I hate to see them go to waste. I am in Houston so I would need to mail them out tomorrow so they can find a new home in time.

I would think that anyone who purchases a ticket should receive a free download that seems to be typical practice. However I will probably purchase the Live Stream download after the show just to watch it again anyways so I dont really care.

We're doing bus to show on the way back ... feel like we'll get there too late (even with Roll Call Early Entry, provided they're doing that) so we just paid the money, emailed and said we just need a ride home and they were cool with that. We'll just Uber to get there.

I am confused as to what they mean by "first ever live concert stream show" ???
Stop me if I'm wrong but numerous amounts of the festival appearances have been streamed live, and also when Circuital came out they streamed that show directed by Todd Haynes.
I get that this is a new cool way to stream with releasing the download and able to watch it for 24 hrs... But why call it the "first" ?

Hey there! I grew up south suburbs New Lenox when I was younger and have lived in Chicago and now live in Naperville. Kind of all around I guess you would say. Yeah I'm so excited this is my first trip to Red Rocks and I'm bringing a friend who is going to his first MMJ Show.
I always request "Come Closer" but I sent a tweet to Tom asking him about doing a combo of "Into the Woods" into "Like a River" or vice versa...I think that would kill!
I'm just hoping for a longer show, maybe a few rare songs, and damn "Spring" is amazing live.........can't wait less than two days! I fly out Friday morning work today is gonna be so hard to get through! lol

Just got to Denver after a week-long road trip for the show! Can't wait. Red Rocks first timer. What time is everyone planning on getting there tomorrow?
Flying in tomorrow with the wife, first timers here too. Can't check-in at the hotel until 4:00, then straight to Red Rocks.
All day rafting yesterday, Band of Heathens in Salida tonight, should hit the south lot by 5pm tomorrow. Stoked to be back at RR with MMJ bringing us all together.

Does anyone know if getting in for sound check is happening for roll call peeps? In 2012 we were able to head into the venue around 4 and watched the band play a few tunes beforehand.
Man... I bought deluxe roll call for this show but my laminate has gone missing and there's no receipt on my account. I emailed Wonderful Union but I sure hope this mess gets resolved. I'm too pumped for this show for this to happen!!!!

Man... I bought deluxe roll call for this show but my laminate has gone missing and there's no receipt on my account. I emailed Wonderful Union but I sure hope this mess gets resolved. I'm too pumped for this show for this to happen!!!!
Just go to your dashboard on your account, and print out the page that shows you're an active RC member. Or if you can pull it up on your phone, that should work too. It'll show the date your membership is good until. As long as you can show you're an active member, you'll be good to go.
The woman who checks for laminates is great. She'll come out a few minutes before early entry to make sure everyone in line should be there, has their laminate, or is good to go if not. She'll help straighten out any questions before the entry starts.

Glad to help. Just keep an eye out for her a few minutes before early entry if you have any questions or to make sure you're good to go but I'm sure you'll be fine.
There are usually more than a few RC members in the EA line going solo who I'm sure would take you in as their +1 if needed. I've done it, as have many others. Wouldn't hurt to get to know the people in line around you or at a preshow get together just in case. I don't think you'll have a problem though, as long as you can show you're an active RC Deluxe member. I've seen others get in early in the same boat as you.

I will try to buy the live stream here in Uganda. They give you 24 hours to view it, so I will try to watch it midnight Saturday (we are 9 hours ahead of Denver), which they call "Happy night" here when streaming is cheaper. My connection isn't consistent though, so I will just have to see. It will be a good preview to see if I will be able to stream Broncos games.

So I wake up at 2am Chicago time today, head to my buddies house, only to find out our 6am SW airlines flight has been cancelled!!!!!!!!!! Apparently a lightning strike hit the Las Vegas airport which is where the plane that was flying to Chicago and then taking us to Denver was and they had to cancel flights throughout the U.S.
Next flight wouldnt get us out to Denver until 9pm tonight, thus missing the MMJ Show!!!!!!!
But no way was I missing my first Red Rocks experience with MMJ, all SW airlines would do was refund my one way ticket, so I had to book a last minute one way ticket to Denver for $393!!!!! lol
We just got into our cabin in Blackhawk, CO and damn it is gorgeous out here! I'm gonna crash for a few hours and then make the trek to Red Rocks, hopefully getting there by 545pm and onto a glorious night! I had doubts I was gonna make it this morning but lo and behold everything worked out.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight and MMJ putting on an amazing show!

I have seen some pretty special mmj shows- bonnaroo '06, every red rocks show, Levon's barn, among others- and last night was hands down the tightest the band has ever been. Amazing night.
They were on point last night. I was hoping for a few super deep cuts, but the set list was still very good. They seemed to jam a lot more last night, a lot of songs ran into another one.
And Carl was cookin. He left the stage and there was a plate biscuits and bacon where he was.
they were insane! just wish they'd included Come Closer for gods sake! as well as remove Touch Me pt. I and insert Thin Line. Also PLAY How Do You Know...you just did two days ago...and Cobra?? How come no Cobra for the big nights when everyone's watching? its a song for the peoples :)
was that the greatest Gideon you've ever heard? just the way it crescendo'd with Jim and Carl playing together and then Carl's acrobatics just made it so perrrrrfect. My god...these guys are dangerous live, they just blow you away. Carl was fucking brilliant all show, i felt his goldtop let him down at the first of I Think I'm Going To Hell, he totally missed his cue I think . Carl was twirling around and headbanging and flying around with abandon and it was amazing to see, I love Carl, as does everyone on here.

But it is so much better as the opener or the start of the encore. So wher they had it last night, was great for me.

after replaying the stream three times, I've come to realize that as cool as the experiment was, it'd have been best to not have done it, cause that was fast becoming one of the best Steams ever, it had so much beauty, like Jim's voice on the "at least not to me" was so pained and agonized it was making me misty to hear the purposeful cracking in his voice, it was a phenomenal vocal performance and he nailed the SO!! at the beginning. Steam Engine absolutely takes you on a journey, and them taking a detour every now and then is one thing, but the FIRST time i see Steam Engine live, would I want them to break it up like that? FUCK NO. but is it a cool experiment? Yes, and I think there's better songs that can be mish-mashed, like Cobra could fit with about three billion different things...

We were in row 10 or 11, wanted to be closer to the center, so we got a few rows back. We estimated about 500 maybe more. Its tough to say though, a lot of people were doing the old blanket reserve, saving seats for their non Roll Call friends.
Anybody catch if there was code for the show download? In 2012 they put something on the screen and at the merch boot. I didn't see anything, but was too excited and didn't pay attention.

We were RC early admission and in row 9. Some of that one big family crew were pretty nice, but one lady (I bet it's the awful lady referenced earlier) was just so rude. She yelled at us all waiting in the early admission like we were stupid. Everyone was just kind of like "who the hell is this bitch???" This was my first live MMJ experience and I'm so glad the great people outshone the awful folks with similarly awful attitudes

According to the live stream info, it should be released on or before August 21.
Didn't see anything on the ticket that would indicate a download, unless they use the barcode number. I'm not even certain that its included with the ticket this time. Either way, I'll be happy.
Just my .02, but I was disappointed with the Red Rocks show. Did anyone else go to The Fox in Atlanta and to RR? I will say the only reason i am disappointed is because I saw Atlanta the previous weekend. RR was nothing more than Atlanta crammed into a 3:17 min show...which was incredible, but I hope you see my point. Think about it, the Steam > Memories > Steam first surfaced in Atlanta and was just insane. First ever and totally put the crowd in a place of wanting more. Also look at Part 1 & Part 2 played back to back for the first time ever as well, at least that I recall. They did both of these at RR which seems to cheapen the experience a bit. Why no out of this world covers to start the night off in a tear? Not even an old rarity or Tyrone or at least throw a Bear / September in for the first handful of tunes.
Anyone feel me on this? Again, do not get me wrong RR was an incredible experience. But if you saw both nights at The Fox in Atlanta, I would really like to know your opinion. I hope they are not like Tedeschi Trucks where you only need to see them once per tour based on the similar set lists.
I will end with a question. If you saw 5-8+ shows this tour, would you fly to Europe to see them? Would you head to Boston and then to NYC to see all shows? After the last few to close this tour, I am not so sure I would. And that makes me sad.

I wasn't at red rocks for the exact reason u explained in your post.The band while on a new album tour just won't give you what you want.IMO they are still going above and beyond but i personally believe it will be more of the same in europe maybe worse since they want more of the "hits"being they go there less than the states.
On the flip side they have not played 4days at 1 venue so NY is a huge question mark of whats gonna happen there & I'm sure LA will get a 3-4 day stint on the 2nd leg of this tour.
They are good at mixing things up so id imagine a must event in 2016.
Keep posting great posts like the above and I do hope people don't take it as criticism.

Think about it, the Steam > Memories > Steam first surfaced in Atlanta and was just insane. First ever and totally put the crowd in a place of wanting more. Also look at Part 1 & Part 2 played back to back for the first time ever as well, at least that I recall. They did both of these at RR which seems to cheapen the experience a bit. Why no out of this world covers to start the night off in a tear? Not even an old rarity or Tyrone or at least throw a Bear / September in for the first handful of tunes.
Anyone feel me on this? Again, do not get me wrong RR was an incredible experience. But if you saw both nights at The Fox in Atlanta, I would really like to know your opinion. I hope they are not like Tedeschi Trucks where you only need to see them once per tour based on the similar set lists.
I will end with a question. If you saw 5-8+ shows this tour, would you fly to Europe to see them? Would you head to Boston and then to NYC to see all shows? After the last few to close this tour, I am not so sure I would. And that makes me sad.
I love this band with my entire being. I love what Jim writes and I love what they stand for. But I wish they would take it to the next level for the fans. Perhaps they will and perhaps I will be surprised in Europe. Dying to hit Amsterdam based on the last time they played in '08.

i feel like it was absolutely a brilliant show! but was it the setlist I would've chosen? NOT AT ALL, despite the amazing jams thrown into all the hits, making them a lot less hit-ier and juicing them up and reinventing them. I totally feel like they could've thrown in a How Do You Know or an Oxen for god's sake, considering those two are beasts and MUST be heard by their mainstream fans. There seems to be, for the first time in their careers, that there's a vast group of people there at shows to get fucked up and yell stupid shit and talk over Jim during the quieter numbers and that BOTHERS me.
I think you're a tad cynical, I think they pulled out all the stops for the fans, given that they gave us something very special with the Danny Clinch filmed show. Yes, I would've replaced about 10-11 songs with choices of my own, that may not please the housewives or alcoholics in the crowd, but would just about make everyone on here's year: Come Closer, How Do You Know, Oxen, Cobra...
but lets keep in the perspective of this: what other band would've done half the things this band has done for us? 3 hour shows? at least being mindful enough to ask fans for requests (whether they play them is another issue)
We ALL love this band.
I feel there is a vibe on here whenever someone posts something critical of the band, people get defensive. Let's stop that. It solves nothing. Lets listen to each other and realize that the person you may disagree with, loves this band just as much as you do :)

It's probably because I'm so fresh, but I thought the show was perfect. The only point I'd put against them was Memories sounded like it was in a different key, but I haven't been following the tour via social media, just seen a set list here and there, so the Steam sandwich blew my fucking mind regardless. I involuntarily blurted "oh my god!" when they jumped back into Steam.
I had such a great time, and it bums me out to see people criticize their decisions. I think it's easy to forget that they're in charge - this is how they make the bulk of their income. To me it's a privilege to see them, and if I'm lucky enough to get the chance to do so, how could I possibly complain? But I also know people have a right to voice their complaints and concerns, and I understand why seasoned show goers would do so. If I'd seen them a gazillion times I wonder if I would be doing the same thing.
I dunno. I just feel like if I had the chance to see them as much as I want to, I still wouldn't care, just because I'd be so happy to see them. There are a lot of people who would've loved go to this show but couldn't and I'm thankful I got to witness it.
Just my opinion. Not trying to nag anybody. Just got some post-show blues.
l feel the people who've gone to a billion shows shouldnt complain cause theyve seen A LOT MORE rare songs than some of us will ever get the chance too hahahah ive only seen them ONCE and it was a life affirming show...I already loved the band to the point they were my #1 but that show just sealed it..and that SLC 2012 set list, though it has its rarities and spice, was pretty much a greatest hits set, which everyone NEEDS for their first show, and I was very privileged I felt to get it :smiley:

I have seen them 20 times and woudnt care if it was the same setlist every time. In the moment I can give a fuck what songs they play. Tell you the truth I am so done with I'm amazed, and every time I'm like please don't play it, and then it comes on and I don't have that feeling... Cause it's still sounds great while you are witnessing it.
Sure after words, I may say damn I wish they played this, or this song would have fit in there... But ultimately I do believe they do a good job mixing it up every night. And we don't know the real reasons that don't play certain songs? We all begggggg for Oxen, By My Car, Friends Again.... But maybe there is a reason they don't play them? Maybe they are personal songs about personal experiences that he doesn't want to re live? Maybe he doesn't remember the chords or lyrics? Who knows? Same goes for Big D... I really thought this song was gonna be played every night. But who knows what happened.
At the end of the day every single song they perform live is magic.
As for the set at RR. Being that is was recorded and streamed, and after looking at, it was a pretty perfect greatest hits setlist. Without replacing anything, I just wish Dancefloors was added... Love that fucking song!

I'm assuming they played similar stuff in Atlanta as a way to rehearse/practice it for the Red Rocks stream show. Probably wanted to make sure things sounded as good as they could before being streamed out to the world. Does it cheapen the Red Rocks show a little? I guess. But they still kicked ass IMO.

Everyone in the first few rows of GA was great, but I didn't like how they let some (obviously not die-hard) fans into the 'handicapped access' area in between the front row and the stage... The people in front of us were mostly cool, but I felt so embarrassed for them that they kept leaving to get beer in the middle of songs, and were talking for most of Jim's quiet solo in Dondante... Blasphemy!
Frank, I totally get what you're saying. Be warned, people on this forum, and fans of the band in general, tend to be overly sensitive to even the smallest amounts of critique and criticism. Your points are valid.

I know I'm a little late to the party and there is a lot to take in with the last few posts, but I wanted to make a few points in respectful disagreement.
I get what your saying. There were a lot of songs I wanted to hear, but I would have been disappointed to miss out on others. I think that our expectations conflict with what Jacket does. They are not a jamband, at least not in the traditional sense. I don't really like trying to compare them to other bands, but they don't have a different show night-to-night like an Umphrey's McGee, but they don't do the same show like a Faith No More. Both are great live, but are vastly different styles. Jacket fits a great happy medium. Maybe I'm wrong, but I now expect a different setlist every night, that includes a group of slightly changing core songs, fine tuning what works with what doesn't over the course of a tour.
They tend to do everything. I have a tough time trying to explain them to someone who has never listened to them before. I guess they are classic-alt-folk-county-rock-pop-jamtronica. I'm not trying to explain them to this crowd, just explain how I get flummoxed when someone asks me to categorize them. On top of that, they've traveled from Miami Beach to the Rocky Mountains, played 10 shows over the course of two weeks in August. I think its fair to have a little repetition.
I also think its fair to expect a little blow back from a critical, yet thoughtful post. I tried to ignore the comments from other shows because I didn't want to bias my expectations. The show was amazing and I wanted to bask in its glory with everyone else. Its a bit of a buzzkill coming back to the board and read words like "cheapen" and "watered down." But that's my expectation. Not everyone will agree and critique fosters good discussion. So I'll get over it.
Finally, If you can't make it, couch tours are great, but they don't come close to doing the Red Rocks justice. On top of that, there are few bands that can sonically fill that place like MMJ. The elements there can ruin an otherwise great show. They have never failed to deliver there. I think its fair to say that more Jacket is better than less, in-person better than recorded, and while I might have minor complaints and I always want them to do everything, my face has melted every time I've seen them.
Honestly I think the fact that people quibble with the fact that they don't get 5 different Tennessee Fire/Split EP/How Could I Know/Chills etc. deep cuts per show speaks volumes to how spoiled this band makes us with regard to their tours and live shows. I'm not saying don't criticize - healthy debate elevates discourse for any topic - but look at the uniformity of set lists, brevity of set lengths, and lack of experimentation of other contemporary bands and compare them to MMJ and it's pretty mind blowing.
i've liked plenty of setlists on this tour more than RR. still a great show.

the entire night I was under the impression they decided to play the songs they knew they could knock out of the park. Specifically to have a kick ass live video.

It was my husband and my first MMJ show (even though we've been fans for many, many years, it just hasn't fallen in to place). We were totally and completely blown away!! Will not miss them again when they are in my neck of the woods.

And PRETTY PLEASE no one take offense, but look at how many folks in this thread have stated "This was my first show". And I am EXTREMELY HAPPY they are growing the fan base. I am not one of these fans that wants the band to remain small. These guys preach love and I know 100% my world is a better place because of this music, therefore I have no problem sharing it with everyone!
IF any of you were at RR a few years ago, the crowd was no comparison. If you can find this concert from RR that aired on Palladia, the crowd is NO WHERE CLOSE to the same caliber. Red Rocks was ON FIRE during those takes and while it was not a live feed, it was a live concert and the place was I N S A N E. Please watch that and then watch the stream again....no comparison. And perhaps that is why I felt let down, perhaps it was the caliber of the crowd around me and the overall environment. In the end I think it was a mix of both and coupled with my high expectations created a hole for myself. No biggie really.
I will leave you with this from an article that was posted a few hours ago.
"While seasoned fans soaked up jam after jam, some casual concertgoers grew fatigued by the sprawling setlist. By the time 11:30 p.m. rolled around, many people sat on the aisle stairs looking bored. But the band still had about an hour's worth of music left to play."

Possible that they will be releasing a DVD/Bluray of the show and could getting covers cleared be an issue? I really don't know specifics about that sort of thing but maybe they wanted to save on paying any money they would potentially have to pay in order to release it for purchase featuring others' songs.
Really not sure. Just a guess.
I do feel spoiled by all the amazing things I've seen. I've learned that I have to temper my buildup for the band when talking to others at festivals because I know they will be great but I know that they usually are SO MUCH BETTER or can kill it on a tour date in a way that makes a festival date seem like a warmup.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Red Rocks show easily more than any of the OBH shows. Acoustics were obviously a big factor, but quality of the performance is also a biggie for me.

I agree with you 110%. I was at ATL and skipped RR because I was afraid this would happen. I kind of knew that RR wasn't going to get a special set list. The band kind of doesn't do that on these tours post an album. I actually found RR to be good but not great (I just watched the stream) and other than the mix with no bass and the awful hyper cutting of the video the set list was just to familiar to get me really excited.
I do think for the fall tour the band needs to start mixing up the set list more since they are doing so many multi night runs. But I am not expecting that. I will not be flying out to Boston or NYC. Mostly because the shows are Thanksgiving. If they were another time I would probably hit them. But I would expect repeats during NYC. I bet the first two shows are repeat free but then the 3rd and 4th shows will repeat songs from those nights.
I thought I enjoyed myself at Red Rocks. Then I read these posts, and realized the error of my ways. I now realize just how much that show sucked. I apologize to those around me for the lightness of spirit and pure elation I exhibited during the performance. I hope to experience a real show sometime soon. Is there any way that I can know ahead of time if a show will be good? It just seems inefficient to have to wait until after the show and after opinions of it have hit the forum.

I agree it wasn't the same, but it never is, despite similarities in some setlists. They approach the two night runs differently than a one-off show. We don't have Palladia tv in my neck of the woods, but the show on Axs was night two of the two night run. I think a better comparison is the 2011 show. All originals, no covers and a legendary show in of itself.
I think caliber of crowd is a matter of perspective. Friday we were close to the soundboard. The crowd was energized and full of stamina. It felt like it could have gone for another hour. We were at the 2012 shows. The second night we sat at the top. Had a relaxed, phenomenal night. But we saw people leaving early, folks left between the main show and encore, but most stayed. The casual fans that we were with enjoyed night 1 better, the one that wasn't televised. Perspective plays a part in the review too. One person's "sprawling setlist" is another's "career highlight of a show"
The Jambase review had a different perspective than the recent one. It says:
"Not only did they rise to the occasion at Red Rocks but they shattered audience expectations. For over three hours, MMJ dished out 29 songs that covered every one of their seven LP's, showcased material off of their latest album, The Waterfall, hit on all the classics, and even shelled out a few deep cuts for the setlist geeks to drool over."

WE ARE SPOILED JUST TO HAVE A BAND LIKE MMJ EXIST! Think about that for a moment...think about all the other shit music out there....
I feel the band can play Oxen, Chills, How Do You Know etc all amazing and just dont play them. Think about it, whenever MMJ "makes mistakes" onstage, most of the time you never even notice them, because they're so solid, the chemistry is so high that if one guy or even two are off, the others pull them back in or cover it up, its insane, they make mistakes into new jams hahah. So the excuse of not knowing how to play them, just isn't there for me, they can do it. I think the songs being of a personal nature, as someone up above said, is probably the truest of all of them. How Could I Know, Come Closer seem to be about one lady, Jim's lady around 2002-2004 and I dunno what happened with her, but it probably makes Jim sad to think about. Maybe thats the reason? he should just tough it up and realize we ALL have ruined relationships, and if you're a musician and you're gonna channel that through songs, you've got to understand that if they're amazing songs, they're gonna connect with US. And they DO. So ....tough it up and play them, Jim hahahas .
Guys we are spoiled just to have this band exist, with this discography.
I think RR2012 was better, but the visual aspect the other night wasnt comparable to 2012, it was like watching a movie based on the band, it was nutso and awesome. Set list wise? of course 2012 was better, and the only cardinal sin in my mind was them re-treading so many songs we've seen from RR2012, that have been played at RR. Why not play all songs that havent been played there, especially in 2012?
Oh well...as everyone has said, they can play the most stale on paper looking setlist, and have it be still a life changing show: isnt that the sign of a ONCE IN A LIFETIME band ???

I've gotten two of the three, and thought THAT was special but never all three at the same show. Do I think RR15 was the best setlist ever? No, but to say it wasn't special is off the mark, IMO.
As far as B4 getting repeats by show three, I think you couldn't be more wrong. T5 five nights/1 repeat. PC three nights/ no repeats. The Wiltern three nights/ no repeats. Chicago three nights/ no repeats. What makes you think they'll only play 2 nights at the Beacon before repeating a song? The precedent has been set, and honestly I don't think we're going to get one repeat over the whole run. Carl himself a couple of years ago said they dig doing multi night shows, and wondered why songs being repeated at them is still a question. Man o man, did not mean to hit any wrong chords ladies / fellas. And as I've stated, RR was an incredible show. BUT, if you look at what was played in Atlanta, then take a peak at RR and see it is very similar. That is all I'm saying. And after seeing this wonderful group of fellas for years, YES, I expected more! I was expecting more than what I heard a few weeks prior. My example was two "firsts" in Steam > Memories > Steam and Part 1 & 2 together....both firsts and both played in Atlanta, then RR. That's all I'm saying.
As far as saying Atlanta was the best show in my opinion, for this tour you would be correct. But it's just an opinion. But do not get it twisted as I saw 7 shows this tour, not including OBH II. In ALL of my years seeing this band, YES, The Fox Theatre is in my top 3-4 shows and best this tour that I witnessed. Just listen to what Jim says in Atlanta to the crowd. Mentioning how Atlanta has always been a favorite, how the fans always bring the heat and intensity and they love every minute. You could see it in their energy and the way they vibe with each other. Again, just my opinion but I have a pretty good track record to pull from and yes, it was the best by far. But think about it in this light, they are ON FIRE and playing harder than ever before. They were said to have peaked years back but yet the media is now saying it again! How cool is it to be part of this incredible experience. But as we've all stated, every show is different for every one.
I am not saying it isn't worth seeing any other shows but they are getting very close to Tedeschi Trucks as I stated earlier....you wouldn't travel to several cities to see them because the set lists are very similar with some change-ups, but over the course of 5-6 shows you get the same material. They are different and we all understand that fact, but it is the first time I have ever felt that way about this band. Perhaps that is the major element of my current mental state.
Trust me when I say I'm not here to claim "this is the best show" or "that show was not good". But I am here to explain my disappointment in RR after seeing them in Atlanta. That is really all and how this conversations started. I was curious if anyone felt the same way and wanted basic dialogue for some others thoughts.
I am glad we are getting those here. But please do not take my words as detriment as all is cheerful. If you went to RR and had a blast, RIGHT ON! If you thought it was the most epic show of this century, RIGHT ON! I am not here to dismiss otherwise. I am also not here to say the show was a downer or waste. I am here to say I thought it would be something more.
But then again, I had the same thoughts about my last pay raise....

Ahh, my bad....missed that one but I will say playing it 7 years later for the first time (to me) was a blessing. But same sentiment, hearing it days later after a 7 year hiatus doesn't change my feeling.
once EVERYONE gets to hear the show, when the live LP is released, all will be disspelled. Those jams on the "hits" are fucking incredible, and definitely MAKE the show special. Its a 3 hour fucking show...what isnt special about that? I was wishing they'd play my chosen rarities but they didnt, and that was ok considering they delivered the best show of the tour, maybe not in setlist, but in energy and giving us crazy good jams that lifted those songs to an elevated level never before touched (IMO) with those songs.
Frank G - I understood your post completely, and had no problem with anything you said. You're certainly entitled to your opinion just like anyone else,. I respect that, and it didn't bother or offend me in any way. However my post was directed at Midwesterner. I didn't get some of the things he was saying, ie,not a special setlist when it had those three monsters all in the same show.
I also disagree with him on the no repeat thing at B4, and I was just pointing out why I think he's mistaken about the repeats, and also how his post came across to me. It's all good though, we're all fans and can certainly have different opinions, and views on things. No problem with that at all for me. Just responding to some things I didn't get, and others I don't agree with. I think we all agree though how great this band is, and how much we all love em. :beer:

Folks, I think we're discussing first world problems here. I personally have no expectations of their shows. I don't care if they play oxen, or how could I know or pepper me with WC, I'm amazed, and OTR. Because the fact is, these guys are incredible musicians who play their hearts out EVERY SINGLE TIME. If you are disappointed that they didn't play a song off your bucket list rather than being awed by their music then, IMO, you're looking at things backwards. What right do you have to expect or strongly hope a professional music band owes you something more?
Been to 25-30 shows and every single one was a damn good time because these guys are special. My advice, for those who care, is enjoy what's given to you by this incredible band. The minute I leave a jacket show feeling disappointed is the day I'll die.

ok...Frank M...midwesterner, rewatch that opening with Wordless, and when he tells them to cut the lights and hesitates before launching into We Are The innovators They Are The imitators, YOU CANNOT tell me that that part isnt fucking epic as all hell and that that line defines the band and that that moment was that that THAAAAT amazing :) anyone doubting it wont rewatching, INCLUDING ME...I had my complaints but getting to see these guys do what they do for 3 hours and in a 2015 way, ISNT :thumbsup: :beer:

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Red Rocks show easily more than any of the OBH shows. Acoustics were obviously a big factor, but quality of the performance is also a biggie for me.
I'm not even sure how OBH can even be considered in any comparison. Especially this year's. Jim's voice now vs where it was at OBH2...HUGE difference. I tried to listen again the other day after listening to MPP and it was night and day. (also count me in the camp that has them retire the Bob Marley covers)
Let me start by saying that I agree wholeheartedly with Frank that although RR may have been an absolutely amazing in-person experience it surely doesn't seem like an all time great show especially in light of the ATL similarities.
That being said I think many of the more seasoned fans here realize something that is not really spoken about much or articulated in the following terms but that I believe to be undeniably true: This band has 2 sorts of concerts
A) Record company 19-21 song shows with 4-7 Waterfall songs that don't feature horns, special guests, or particularly deep cuts, except ONCE IN A WHILE. For example, an opener might assist on Wonderful or there will be a Lowdown, PWW, Run Thru etc... but not Bob Weir playing Dead songs and not Tennessee Fire played in its entirety.
B) The special shows. Port Chester T5 Wiltern Chicago Beacon OBH etc... At these you get the Oxens of the world, the covers out of nowhere (see all T5 encores), the horns, the surprises and the no repeats (which as Eric has stated will absolutely continue for the Beacon run).
The last Red Rocks appearance seemed to have been more akin to the Type- B special shows and it seems that many were expecting Friday night to be the same but it bore many similarities to a Category A show (despite the length and quantity of songs played).
I love this band but with limited time and money I have literally no desire or thoughts of ever traveling to St Augustine, Miami, Atlanta, Toronto, festivals etc... because I feel that seeing 2 or 3 out of the 4 nights of the Beacon will be so much more awesome than any of these other shows.
Obviously I have to add as Frank did that I adore this band with all my heart and I think that even at their least interesting one-off 19 song performance on a Tuesday night somewhere they are putting out something far superior than almost anybody else in the rock world.
The one thing I'll add and that I've been meaning to say for a long time (please don't get upset) is that despite The Waterfall being a fair album I think it's BY FAR THEIR WORST ALBUM without any comparison. I think it was a major regression and aside from Hillside Song and Get The Point there is almost nothing on it that I enjoy hearing the album version of. This band can make anything sound good live but I think many may feel slightly deprived by only hearing 14 pre-Waterfall songs on a given night.
I know that people will be vociferous in their dismissal of my critique and claim that this band is unable to make anything not perfect but hopefully most realize that even great Rock bands (with the exception of the Beatles) make not good albums. Some like the Stones have some of the greatest albums of all time and a handful of ones that I hope never to listen to again.

i'll just say that i cannot fathom how anyone could think circuital is a better album than the waterfall. by far? just does not compute. but to each his own.
as for the concerts, i tend to agree that red rocks was slightly disappointing....but only from a setlist standpoint. i felt the same way about forecastle. we know what they're capable of regarding covers and deep cuts and when we don't get it there's bound to be some disappointment.
but i got my fix in atlanta. :beer:

COMPLETELY AGREE on the version of shows we can expect from this band and how we need to tailor expectations a bit. So looking fwd to catching the one Beacon show I can.
RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE on The Waterfall. Hadn't listened to much of the LP since this tour began. Threw it on the other day and it's still damn good and my already favorable opinion did not change one bit. I can't see it as a regression as there is nothing in their catalog that resembles it. Maybe a change in direction which we will only be able to tell when the next album is released. BUT, I can see where you are coming from as it sounds like the most "produced" album.

The Beatles definitely have some clunkers, in my opinion.
The Waterfall is not perfect, but I like it. I place it above EU and Circuital in my personal rankings. The songs KILL live.
Regarding Red Rocks, lets not forget that Red Rocks 2012 was a 2-night run during spontaneous curation with no repeats, so having the second night broadcast on AXS-TV and selling soundboard audio was a real treat.
This show was special in that it was almost 3 hours and 28 songs were played (though two not in their entirety).
By album, 1 song from Tenn. Fire, 3 from At Dawn, 4 from ISM, 6 from Z, 5 from EU, 3 from Circuital, and 6 from The Waterfall. As this was the final stop on the US leg of their Waterfall tour, not bad at all.
And, most importantly, they played those 28 songs over 3 hours exceptionally well! They have gotten so much better while adjusting to new songs and old bodies.
I would have loved to hear my requested tunes - Master Plan and Just One Thing - but I've gotten those before and appreciate this setlist.

Johnyy- TOTALLY off point but which Beatles albums do you think are clunkers- I am not looking to debate this at all I'm just totally curious and I know you to have a very high music IQ.
Parker and SlappyMoe: Firstly, I like Evil Urges A LOT enough to think of it as in the first 4 albums' camp and not the last 2. (My biggest criticism is that its like a collection of B-Sides and all over the place). Dontgetupset's very personal opinion is that Circuital is #5 most liked album, took a long time to get into (starting when that NPR stream of it was up a week early) has more duds than any album other than this most recent one but I still think its a cut above. Furthermore the songs that I never thought were great on Circuital, specifically the title song and Outta my system, First Light I enjoy seeing live. Maybe Tropics is similar to First Light/Outta My System in that it can create a guitar heavy live performance but I'm really just not that into this album and I think its effected my not being enthralled with this tour.
It probably DOES have something to do with the production. Whether its overproduction or something else it just seems so different that any one song on It Still Moves. Interpret this as hyperbole if you so choose but I think the worst song on ISM is light years better than The Waterfall and the difference to me is glaring. If you love the album then fantastic! Nothing better than getting album after album of goodness from the band you love. I'm jealous.
My question is, has there ever been another show where they played:
Steam Engine + Dondante + Phone + Touch Me pt 2 in one show. Had they played War Begun my head would have blown off with the awesomeness of it all. I mean to me those are their big 5 epics in terms of song length and amazingness. I mean yeah I have seen single shows where they've combined 2 or even three of those, but all 4 of them in one show..

Having said all of that, I really do hope they start rotating the set lists. I was basically able to predict all of the multi night runs as they played basically the same songs in different order. They have a fan base that is willing to travel throughout the country to see them multiple times on a tour and they know that. To me it would take them to that next level if there really was more spontaneity in their shows.
Now having said all of that, I still am ok seeing I'm Amazed or the any of the standards as I realize this band will not be around forever (nor will I). And I will someday be thankful of all the times I got to see them.
I think people might be confusing Frank saying "I expected X and got slightly less than X" with saying that "I didn't like the show".
Steam+Dondante+PWW+both touches is waaaaaay more than most bands are surprising fans with on a given night. Check out Radiohead setlists from 2012 http://www.setlist.fm/setlists/radiohead-bd6bd12.html?page=4 and notice how until the encore every night is exactly the same and even the encores are only minimally mixed up. I picked Radiohead because they're an awesome inventive band marked by creativity yet NOT a band most people would want to see for two nights straight in an arena due to the aforementioned similarities.
Anybody who wants to be amazed by super deep cuts et al will have to probably wait till Masonic and/or Beacon. My prediction is that even the Orpheum will be more like Columbus last month than like the guaranteed-epic-because-its-NYC Beacon shows.

I'm with you on this, The Waterfall isn't my favorite album. I like about five or six of the songs a great deal, and the rest are okay to me.
That said, Red Rocks was over the top great! Getting Dondante, Steam Engine & Phone Went West in one show was pretty effing tops to me.
i think the show sufficed in saying holy fucking shit we will play these fucking songs as bad ass as we can every fucking time we play them. they fucking jammed they fucking rocked and they are fucking great. i loved when Jim walked in back and played to the mountain and i loved the oooonhhmmm meditation at the end of wonderful and if you ask me it was a killer show. Especially if it was your first Jacket show like it was for my father. he had a fucking blast. woke up singing the next day literally. do i wish i would have heard some of my lesser known favs yeah but i also succeeded in introducing MMJ to a random beauty on the plane ride to Denver. it was awesome. And Red Rocks is truly a magical place. But i do have a very serious complaint.
About the fucking encroaching on the territory of GA where we had marked our place. People kept dancing behind me and infront of me and crowding me. one drunk girl tried to hug her way into my heart or into my spot. It was really weird. Not like this in 2012. it was never excuse me i need to get by it was hey fuck you i'm taking your spot. Which is fine if you want a 350 pound man pissed at you who is from chicago and knows how to handle these situations with a firm get the fuck out of here. also they were doing this to my dad. But he was doing the same thing as I being that he is from Detroit and Chicago too hey fucknut get out of my fucking space i'm trying to watch my favorite band and i was here first....fuck nut. i don't think red rocks needs to be assigned seating but people should stop acting like dicks, assholes and pussies. people were shocked by my bluntness. i've been that guy looking to get by and get into a mosh pit at hardcore shows when was a teenager and i had guys my size telling me the same thing very politely...if you don't move on there will be a problem. granted now adays i'm a very peaceful person and i speak my mind the way i want to. But someone giving my dad shit for only bumping him once when it happened about four to ten times in under a minute by your stupid rave dancing...well fucker you give shit to my dad I'm going to step in. but i didn't have to he left quickly, i wonder what my dad said.

We learned how to defend ourselves very well and in fact every thursday's class was sparring. i grew basically wrestling, grappling and learning how to defend in a fist fight with my dad and a bunch of teenagers and adults, i would get tossed around but i would do a lot of damage for a little guy, then i hit my growth spurt...stopped getting tossed around by teens and moved on to adults. it didn't make me a violent person or anything but it was fun. helped me get through some serious shit here and there. example fight in ohio after a wilco show. i'm sitting at friends house and boom a knock on the door and fifteen or more frat boys looking for a fight, didn't get a scratch on me.
and to top that off the last Red Rocks experience i had i was wearing a purple shirt and this girl called me a faggot, then i called her a See you Next Tuesday. her boyfriend puffed up his chest...and stepped down to my level about a foot shorter than i. and my best friend stepped in front of me and said. hey you got one punch to knock him and then all hell will be coming at you, so when i step out of the way i suggest you with run or hit him as hard as you can but trust me that won't be enough because you'll have to fight me even if you knock him out. basically what would have happened, is i would have been punched in the face and i would have gone into Rage mode. but if i had been punched in the face and knocked out or down, which is unlikely i don't have a glass jaw, he would have then had my best friend rage on him for hurting me. he was outnumbered then...but really he wasn't fighting a group it was he had to fight a 6'2'' 350lbs giant or a 5'10'' ex foot ball player. i didn't like that show very much until later in the night. i don't like people yelling out faggot and bringing out the mean version of me out. i won't let that aggression stand. i did nothing but walk up and try to go to my seat. hmm i'm rambling. Red Rocks 2015 was a great experience for my party but it sounds like others might have been expecting something different. I think we should demean 2 shows next year. Should be exciting. fun!

I like Circuital far more than The Waterfall. It just got more songs I like. Victory Dance, Circuital, Slow Slow Tune, Moving Away, Wonderful and Black Metal beat Thin Line, Memories Remain, Big Decisions, and the middle section of In Its Infancy for me. Some Waterfall songs that I don't care for on the album are getting good live, like Tropics, Spring and maybe Compound Fracture. Some Watefall songs I will probably never like (The River, Get The Point, Believe)
What matters most to me is how the songs sound live, not what the record sounds like.
Like others have said, I prefer seeing the multi-night runs because I know they are the special shows. MMJ make it pretty easy to figure out which are the shows for the diehard fans that want the special stuff and that is pretty cool of them. I'm expecting no repeats in San Francisco.

THIS IS NUTS! While I totally love and agree and am aligned with your self-defense, I feel its insane you guys even had to stand up for yourselves at a Jacket show. up until this tour, I'd never heard of dick fans, especially in GA, and I haven't heard of fans being abrasive, mean, out of control and threatening violence to you and your dad. thats insane. and in 2012 that happened? WEIRD.
It seems there's a lotta drunk bitches at the Jacket shows who get drunk and start screaming in people's faces...I've heard like 15 accounts of this EXACT thing happening...drunks trying to take spots or JUST taking them. or freaking out and getting in faces of real fans...its not fucking ok...if you are at a show with a group of you, STAND UP FOR EACH OTHER, Don't let these people ruin your experience. Grab a security guard, say the person is violently attacking you, even if they're not, and get them moved!!!
Chicago guys knows how to fuck shit up in a fight, and I know that well hahah. I got into a fight with 3 Chicago kids in high school and let's just say, while I held my own, what they got off HURT BAD hahah

Seeing this is beyond infuriating. Not that I am interested in that poster, because I was not at the Red Rocks show, but its the principle of the matter. Sorry for you folks who really wanted to get your hands on this poster for your own collections.

You are correct. BUT, I always look at it this way. There is nothing I hate more than trying to keep up with a tube the entire night during a show. I feel it's on my mind all damn night and I just don't need that while I'm making love to the notes these guys are putting out into the atmosphere. Therefore, I have no problem paying $100 for someone else to do the dirty work. I'm trying to buy an Atlanta poster now and would pay $100 in a blink of an eye.
Not a fan of flippers, especially during a re-release like today, but I also understand it.

The air kind of let out of me when I heard Martine was doing The Waterfall. I liked the production on Circuital and some bands can do great things sticking with the same producer. I liked The Waterfall a lot and don't have anything against Martine, and it's Jim's decision, but I still felt a little disappointed. And I was even more disappointed when I heard the production on the album, which really bore a resemblance to Circuital's production. I guess you could say Martine is consistent, in that respect, but that adds to why I wished someone else had been chosen: variety.
I think it is a good production, for what it is, and I love most of the songs themselves dearly, but it still sounds like Circuital's twin, production wise.

Ok so I'm late on my Red Rocks review but it was a long and glorious weekend!
This show was the 20th for me and the first for my friend who wasn't very familiar with MMJ. After pretty much being up for 24 hours we go to Red Rocks early for Roll Call Early entry. The hike up got the hammies all worked up and the anticipation of seeing Red Rocks was at an all time high. We didn't run to get a good GA spot, instead we posted up to the left of the "VIP" section maybe 10 rows up.
There was one guy waiting for his friend and was very cool about us sitting down next to them. He and his friend (from Nashville and Louisville) were the nicest guys and fans of MMJ. Throughout the night we took turns keeping each others spots, grabbing drinks for each other, chatting MMJ stories, etc.... I couldn't have asked for a better crowd experience near me.
As for Red Rocks Amphitheatre, WOW! I was truly amazed....I hope that people who live close to Red Rocks do not take that for granted because damn is that place special. The view at night when the lights come on in the rocks, the acoustics were fantastic, and damn was it great weather with a cool breeze coming through!
As for the show itself, I was torn because as always I was looking for a few deeper cuts but at the same time since my friend was new to MMJ live, I was really hoping certain songs were played (Run Thru, Dondante, Phone Went West, Evil Urges, Steam Engine, OBH, Touch Pt 2). All were played and he got to experience the same feeling as did I when hearing those songs for the first time live.
I was impressed by some of the performances of some of the songs, they seemed really "on" and in their groove. Interested to see the electric guitar out for Jim on "At Dawn", "Only Memories" in a different key was well, different, I'll have to listen back to that as the jury is still out on that, but hey I'm glad they tried something different.
I'm a sucker for and still think "Spring" is the best new song live and this version did not disappoint. I didn't get the download and I'll really have to go back and listen or hopefully view the show if they put it on DVD but I had an amazing time. 28 songs and 3 hours worth? And they busted their butts too and I will always respect that.
For me the Chicago three night run was my favorite this year, I loved hearing "Just One Thing" at soundcheck in Milwaukee, and Red Rocks the experience as a whole was just phenomenal. And damn we stayed in Blackhawk, Co and boy is it beautiful! Highly recommend the drive through the mountains for anyone.

Most collectors want the full T5 set, so it's more desirable than a stand alone like RR 2015. Plus, I personally think the Reno T5 image is much better. There's a guy on this board right now trying to sell one for $400, last one on Ebeans sold for $300, 5yrs after the show, those are still fetching that kind of money.
I personally dont think there is any chance this print is going for that kind of money in 5 yrs. I could be wrong, but I bet these are under $100 within a year.

this always shocks me because, personally, it's my least fav. I have all 5. The Reno is my fav of the 5, followed closely the Burwell. The Reno is one of my favorites in my entire collection.

Honestly Waterfall and Circuital sound significantly better than any of the other albums on my set up, it's not even close. My buddy ParkerVB brought over some special pressing of It Still Moves that was super hot, but beyond that the studio albums are a little flat on hi-fi. Honestly, The Waterfall is one of the best sounding records I own, I put it on when trying to impress someone with the system. I am a big fan of most of the songs, but the production itself is a real nice touch.
As for Glyn Johns - the only contemporary albums he has done that I am aware of (Band of Horses and Ryan Adams) were snore fests IMO.
Just got back from CO yesterday. Had to post my review of the show although a little late to that party...
Honestly one of the best nights of my life - not kidding
10 years ago I heard Wordless Chorus for the first time on a Ski Trip in CO; liked it so much our group continued to pump it right before we hit the slopes every day that trip to get us jacked up for the days carving. MMJ has been a part of me ever since...Although, I would have been considered more of a casual fan over this time-span, the past 2 years I have dug into their early stuff while really obsessing over their newer stuff (fav album: EVIL URGES)
Opted out to see them in hometown of KC to road trip out to CO as to not spoil my first live MMJ show...which turned out to be a great decision. My anticipation since getting the tix on pre-sale the day they came out was killing me, I was in part nervous they would not live up to my lofty expectations or worried I would not hear all my fav songs, and there was too much excitement / build-up and I was thus setting myself up for disappointment...ok, here we go...Jim lifted off with Wordless and Compound Fracture - BOOM - hit me like ton of bricks...all my expectations were blown away and I was in pure music euphoria / bliss. It was at that moment I did not care what other songs were coming up next and just had to let them take over and drive this crazy / awesome ride that is a MMJ live show. I could not have ever imagined these guys were that good live! Song after song my grin got bigger and at times I could not help but laugh to myself at how ridiculously good they sounded.
Highlight: As I sat up in my reserved seats with my wife, I look above the stage seeing the Denver skyline with flickers of lightning in the background as the GA crowd fist pumped in unison to Touch me pt 2, as billows of fresh CO herb floats into the nights air...Wow, what an epic night!...
I tailgated with quite a few groups and met a lot of you knowledgeable / loyal MMJ fans and want to give you all a quick shout out for being a fun and passionate fan base!
My only two regrets was not getting a poster - (which I doubt I'll get now that they are fetching for $200+ online) and that I was not in GA with all you guys playing air guitar and singing along...(I might have been a little too into the music up in the chill zone of row 50)
See you all hopefully very soon at the next show! I am hooked! Wife is now saying I am turning into Stan from that American Dad episode...hell, it might be true - and I don't care!

I think that's because both Ryan Adams and Band of Horses are snorefests themselves. While things like whether the guitars are buried in the mix or not are subjective matters of opinion and I get that you think they aren't buried and you like the sound of The Waterfall and Circuital, I don't. To my ears, the synthy keyboards are a lot more prominent in the mix than the guitars. The recordings/mixes also tend to mush the sounds together, leaving little space or separation between them. Its just a contemporary style of recording that I don't like. Compare it to Led Zeppelin I for example, and you can hear all the space and separation and breathing lifeforce in the instruments. Everything stands out, nothing mushes together, its sounds like you are in the room with the band. I don't hear that on most modern records, maybe on stuff that Rick Rubin or George Drakoulias have done. Its pretty much the way most records were made in the late 60s and early 70s and its the way I wish records were still made. Glynn Johns, being the stubborn grumpy opinionated old man that he is (his book was so disappointing to me) still insists on making records that way and I can get behind his results.
Tucker Martine makes mellow records that aren't nearly aggressive enough for me (with maybe the exception of the stuff he's done for Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter). He's done it for Tift Merritt and for MMJ. I'm not a fan of his production. I get that some people think he does a great job, though, and he probably does, if you like his style.

They played a set list FOR YOU Mr. CASUAL FAN. ..and some of them still didn't like it...I wish after this tour they realize the shows should be for die hards and if people who are new and wanna embrace that then sweet...but this would deter the musical ADD people away
I didn't see much of the sitting around from casual fans where I was at, but I did get pissed during "Dondante" as there were too many damn people just having conversations around me. Maybe it's just me but damn that song is so damn beautiful and you never know what version you are going to get when played live and to see some people just blowing it off and chatting was pretty lame.

Thanks man, yeah it was a magical night. I can't say it enough those who get to experience Red Rocks on a consistent basis are very lucky. That place is a great venue and I will definitely have to get out there the next time MMJ play again. I'm looking forward to next years tour and the new album!

The past few years they have done a show at Red Rocks in late January. I think it's been rap oriented most years, but I wouldn't rule it out. I remember the first year, there was a huge storm and they had people shoveling the seats for hours before the show. I wish I'd gone to one of them because I'm sure it was quite the experience.
hahahahahah i know im fucking nuts for suggesting all of that, but hey, i think it'd be fucking awesome! and to be honest, the winters in Utah and Colorado haven't been snowy the last couple of years, they've been cold and dry, and some nights it gets up to a frosty 50 degrees with dry feelings everywhere, sooooo it could happen....I'D BE THERE :cool: :cool:
A show in the snow would be epic... The heat at Forecastle this year was miserable but waiting it out all day with the other diehards made the experience very special! Epic conditions make for epic shows; let's get them booked to play on the moon or something

As my avatar indicates, I was "raised" on The Who and to this day still believe their 1971 (two shows in Denver), 1973 (drove to Dallas), 1975 (Front row, Kansas City), and 1976 (Front Row, Denver) shows were literally the pinnacle of live Rock performance. Yes, I am THAT old. But The Who have never varied their set lists much, each tour had its own static list, with a rare exception here and there..
If there were 500 roll call members at the MMJ Red Rocks show, that means 7,500+ people were watching MMJ for their only time that year. What do they care about what MMJ played last week? So bottom line, the fact that MMJ varies their set lists at all is to their credit. These guys appear to be hitting on all cylinders now, so be happy if you get to see them multiple times during a tour.

Recording quality wise, nothing even close. But I really like the Raleigh, Meriwether Post, and Atlanta Fox shows. Charlotte is also very good with the Lucius collabs. I keep going back to Atlanta night 1 the most.
I do like the Athens recording quality probably the best for an audience recording, but the set list doesn't have the diversity of the shows later in the tour.

Recording quality wise, nothing even close. But I really like the Raleigh, Meriwether Post, and Atlanta Fox shows. Charlotte is also very good with the Lucius collabs. I keep going back to Atlanta night 1 the most.
I do like the Athens recording quality probably the best for an audience recording, but the set list doesn't have the diversity of the shows later in the tour.
Quality wise one of the 3 nights of the Chicago 3 run was streamed as a soundboard quality. Someone on here recorded it.

i watched 'Roo again this weekend. I thought you were just trying to be pure contrarian but I can appreciate that position because 'Roo was really well shot and produced. That Lay Low tho!! One of the best this year (or any year)

The show in Manchester last Sunday was just amazing. A very tight small venue used for up and coming UK bands and bands from further afield trying to break it in the UK. The Ritz although small was crammed with fans from all over the UK. Genuine fans wanting to see the greatest band on earth. This lead to a superb atmosphere but we still got the pricks who would chat during the early part of Dondante. Unlike myself who was just awe struck listening my all time favourite piece of music from my all time favourite band.
Regarding the video of Red Rocks. The file is 6 gigs. My software allows me to burn it on a standard DVD, which is 4.7 gigs. The decline in quality is noticeable. Not terrible, but like the difference between a blue ray and a DVD. Anyone know if I burn it on a dual layer DVD disc, which is 8 plus gigs, if the video will retain the full quality?

That's what I did, with apparent success.
Did anyone get a reprint poster of the red rocks show? I ordered mine about two weeks ago, with 2nd day shipping, still have gotten it. Was wondering if there is a delay or anything.

My understanding was that the reprint was to be shipped some time in October, and was plainly stated as such on the order page.

I wanted to publicly acknowledge and thank JohnnYYac for sending me a DVD of the Red Rocks show to include in my care package out here in Uganda. So nice to see MMJ at my hometown concert venue, which I missed dearly this summer. It's a fantastic show! As the say all the time here, "Well done!"
I have some other Peace Corps volunteer whom I will be meeting up with next week who want to see this show. In fact two of us have made a pact to attend the first OBH after our service ends, assuming they still have one in 2018!

I received mine today! It's 536/750 and labeled 2ND EDITION in the righthand corner.
